FATHER KENNEDY IS THE HEIR TO THE GREAT KENNEDY'S BAKERY DYNASTY WHO PROVIDED THE POOR OF BELFAST WITH BREAD FOR DECADES.
BUT ALAS !  HE HAS DISAPPEARED !
THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE NEWS ABOUT A POLICE INVESTIGATION - BUT HE WAS TOTALLY EXHONORATED BY THAT INVESTIGATION.
THEN THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHURCH ENQUIRY.
THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTED SIGHTINGS OF FATHER KENNEDY ON THE NORTH COAST - BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND.
THEN IN THE PAST WEEK OR TWO THERE WERE SIGHTINGS OF A MAN ANSWERING FATHER HUGH'S DESCRIPTION WALKING ALONG ROYAL AVENUE BELFAST IN CLERICAL GARB. BUT STILL NOTHING SUBSTANTIAL HAS EMERGED.
A FEW DAYS AGO SOMEONE CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN HIM DRIVING A CAR IN THE VICINITY OF ST PETER'S CATHEDRAL.

THE DIOCESAN PRESS SPOKESMAN - FATHER EDDIE "CUTE BUM" MC GEE ( A NAME PLACED ON FATHER BY A FORMER STUDENT)  HAS ASKED THE PUBLIC FOR INFORMATION. YOU CAN CONTACT FATHER MC GEE ON  cutebum@downandconnor.org

FATHER JOHN MC MANUS IS ALSO MISSING - FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS NOW.

HE ALSO WAS A VERY IMPORTANT MAN IN THE DIOCESE OF DOWN AND CONNOR.

IN FACT HE WAS THE DIOCESAN CHANCELLOR. HE WAS A LATE VOCATION AND WAS A TEACHER AND SCHOOL PRINCIPLA BEFORE HE WAS ORDAINED A PRIEST.

BECAUSE HE WAS A VERY LIBERAL PRIEST - WITH A GREAT MIND - HE QUICKLY ROSE THROUGH THE RANKS.

BEFORE HE WAS THE DIOCESAN CHANCELLOR HE WAS THE RECTOR OF TH DIOCESAN SEMINARY AND THE HE HELD THE POSITION OF DIOCESAN PRESS OFFICER BEFORE FATHER EDDIE CUTE BUM MC GEE.

BUT ALL OF S SUDDEN HE DISAPPEARED!

APPARENTLY THE ALARM WAS RAISED BY A YOUNG PRIEST OF THE DIOCESE OF DERRY.

UNLIKE FATHER HUGH KENNEDY THERE HAVE BEEN NO SIGHTINGS AT ALL OF FATHER MC MANUS - WHICH IS VERY WORRYING.

THE CHURCH AUTHORITIES HAVE BEEN KEEPING A CLOSE WATCH ON THE FAMILY FARM IN PORTAFERRY, CO DOWN - INCIDENTIALLY THE SAME PLACE THAT FATHER "CUTE BUM" MC GEE IS FROM.

BUT NO MOVEMENTS HAVE BEEN SIGHTED.

ONCE AGAIN - PLEASE COMMUNICATE ANY INFORMATION / SIGHTINGS TO cutebum@down and connor.org

  1. Bishop Buckley,

I think I spotted Father Hugh Kennedy a few times in the past few moths at the sea front at Portstewart. If it was not him it was his double.

  2. I also saw Father Kennedy in Portstewart. He has a house here.

  3. I heard Hugh Kennedy was living the highlife, full pay from the diocese, his personal family fortune and living off the wee people who throw him the odd tener for Mass intention. His Alfa Romeo car looks so waxed!!

Although, on a serious note - he and the diocese needs to get real. He should be be allowed back to minister in full openess of his homosexuality. Will it make him any less a priest, NO, the hypocracy and lies are what makes a person the lesser!!

    1. I agree with you.

Being a car man myself I am glad he is looking after his Alfa Romeo.

  4. What to do when your priest is accused of abuse:

    1) Remain open-minded.
The natural human instinct is to recoil from alleged horror, and to immediately assume that the allegations are false. But the overwhelming majority of abuse disclosures prove to be true.

In every case, the proper and Christian response is to remain open-minded.

    2) Pray for all parties involved.

    3) Let yourself feel whatever emotions arise.
You may feel angry, betrayed, confused, hurt, worried and sad. These are all natural!

    4) Remember that abuse, sadly, is quite common.
It's far more widespread than any of us would like to believe.

    5) Don't try to "guess" or figure out who the accuser is.
Abuse victims, like rape victims, need their privacy to recover from their trauma.

    6) If you do know the victim(s), protect his/her confidentiality. There are many good reasons why abuse victims are unable to publicly come forward.

    7) Understand that abuse victims often have "troubled" backgrounds (i.e. drug or alcohol problems, criminal backgrounds, etc.)
Instead of undermining the credibility of accusers, these difficulties actually enhance their credibility.

    8) Don't allow the mere passage of time to discredit the accusers. Stress to your fellow parishioners that there are many good reasons why abuse victims disclose their victimization years after the crime. (In other cases, it takes years before victims are able to understand and/or acknowledge to themselves that they have been sexually violated. This is a common defense mechanism.)

    9) Ask your family members and friends if they were victimised.
Many times, abuse victims will continue to "keep the secret" unless specifically invited to disclose their victimization by someone they love and trust.

    10) Mention the accusation to former parishioners and parish staff now living elsewhere. They may have information that could prove the guilt or innocence of the priest facing allegations.

    11) Contact the police or prosecutors.
It's your duty as a citizen to call the proper civil authorities if you have any information.

    12) Don't allow other parishioners to make disparaging comments about those making the allegation.

    13) Educate yourself and your family about sexual abuse.
There are many excellent books and resources on the subject. There are also good books specifically about molestation by clerics (Jason Berry's Lead Us Not Into Temptation, Frank Bruni & Elinor Burkett's Gospel of Shame, and the Boston Globe's Betrayal). Check out the web site for clergy abuse victims: SNAPnetwork.org

    14) Support the accused priest PRIVATELY.
Calls, visits, letters, gifts, and prayers.

    15) Don't be blinded by the pain you can see.
The trauma of the accused priest, and those who care about him, is obvious.

    16) Try to put yourself in the shoes of the alleged victim.
It's easy to identify with the priest. Most Catholics have met dozens of priests and know them as warm and wonderful individuals.

    17) Use this painful time as an opportunity to protect your own family.

    18) Turn your pain into helpful action.
Volunteer your time or donate your funds to organisations that help abused kids or work to stop molestation.

    19) Keep in mind the fundamental choice you face.
On the one hand, at stake are the FEELINGS of a grown up. On the other hand, at stake is the PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, SPIRITUAL AND SEXUAL SAFETY of potentially many children.

    20) Ask your Bishop to bring in an outside expert or a therapist who can lead a balanced discussion about sexual abuse.

    21) Urge your bishop, PP and other diocesan or parish employees to follow these guidelines too.

  5. We also need to support the priests, they are falling apart in secret as well as in public.

    By Telegraph reporter

William Finnegan, 59, told a jury that despite having taken a vow of celibacy, he got married more than a decade ago and kept it a secret from both the church and his parishioners.

Finnegan, also known as “Father Bill”, was parish priest at St Clare's RC Church in Fagley, Bradford, West Yorkshire, when the alleged sexual assault happened.

He denies sexually assaulting the teenager on Easter Sunday last year by touching her bottom and forcefully kissing her, and is standing trial at Bradford Crown Court.

His barrister, Jeremy Hill-Baker, told the jury: "You may be thinking that he is only human, that Father Bill, as a Catholic priest, has taken a vow of celibacy, condemning himself to a single and lonely life filled with perhaps an underlying sexual frustration because, let's face it, it is not a natural state for a human to be in.

"It would be understandable for you to be thinking, 'Well, perhaps it just got the best of him with that 17-year-old'."

Catholic Church - wake up!! Or do not actually care!!

  6. Both men were cleared of charges against them — but have not had much luck having their reputation cleared, as well.

Let us all try to be balanced! ALthough, the PR of the church is so poor. They do not care for the priest in struggle and the people who care!

    1. If they were cleared of the charges against them that means they are INNOCENT.

If they have done nothing wrong they should be immediately returned to ministry - if they wish.

To leave them in a LIMBO is a grave injustice.

  7. JOSEPH MAHER was just minding his business. Then one day, a falsely accused priest needed help.

It all started in April 2002 when a visiting priest in his local parish was accused of raping a 40-year-old choir member. Convinced he was innocent, Maher, two other businessmen and a priest pulled together money and lawyers for the priest’s defense. The priest was acquitted about six months later.

The story garnered international media attention. Soon, other accused priests and their friends began contacting Maher, a Fortune 500 consultant, for help. As a result, Opus Bono Sacerdotii (“work for the good of the priesthood”) was born.

As president of the Detroit-based Opus Bono Sacerdotii, Maher has appeared on many television and radio networks, including CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, and National Public Radio. He recently spoke to Register correspondent Sue Ellin Browder about his vocation.

What do you see as the mission of Opus Bono Sacerdotii?

As we say on our website, our purpose is to find “solutions to the problems confronting priests and religious in accordance with the authentic teaching of the Church, and of the Holy Father and his predecessors.”

    1. Your problem is that many of the problems confronting priests are because of OBLIGATORY CELIBACY and the Roman Catholic Church's medieval attitude to human sexuality.

Is Opus Bono Sacerdotti willing to work for OPTIONAL CELIBACY and a 21st Century approach to human sexuality?

If not you will be a part of the problem and not a part of the solution.

  8. I was a seminarian in The Wing, Belfast, when Father John McManus was the rector.

He was kind to his favourites and cruel to others.

He allowed the convicted paedophile Father James Donaghy to lock himself into a seminarian's room for hours and abuse that seminarian.

He allowed Father Donaghy to take the seminarian on trips that the rest of us were not allowed to go on.

The question must be asked; "Why did Father McManus allow Father Donaghy to behave in this way"?

    1. I know this case very well. I was involved with the abused seminarian and his family in the struggle to get justice.

Father McManus engaged in other behaviour in this case, on behalf of Bishop Paddy Walsh, that was very questionable.

I believe that Father McManus is entitled to justice.

But he also needs to explain a number of things he was involved in in the lead up to the Donaghy case.

  9. As a retired primary school teacher from a deprived area in Belfast I agree with so much that Pat Buckley writes. Don't want to mention names of priests and Bishops but most of them treated me and some fellow teachers poorly .Many of them showed no empathy for the schoolchildren and parents .I did try to stand up to their bullying but to no avail-hence I retired early on minimum allowance.

    1. Lucy,

      Thank you for your comment.

I saw so many devoted teachers like you treated so badly.

But the trogan work you did will never be forgotten by the children you served and by God who sees all and remembers all.

I hope you have many years of a happy and well deserved retirement.

    2. Dear Lucy, I find your contribution most interesting. I to am a teacher and over the years the bullying by priest on the BOG's is just criminal. They put principal's and SLT's in place who follow their whims, their corrupt whims.

Personally speaking I think that CCMS schools are a legal timebomb and once one case is brought the house of cards will implode.

I once wrote a letter asking for feedback on a lack of job interview for SLT in another school, I got a letter from the school 'lawyer'! Says it all.

I love the system, they ethos when it works is brilliant, the corruption at the top in order to control the thing is very very corrupt indeed.

I would love to form a group of us teachers and ex-teachers in order to record our experiences.

A fellow bullied teacher with eyes wide open!

  11. The Bible offers several different ways to tell if someone is behaving in a Christian way. Is your Minister, Pastor or Priest following the Bible's prescriptions? Here are four of the most important:

    #1 - Christians keep quiet

In Matthew 6:5-8, Jesus tells Christians how to pray:

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
Does your Minister, Pastor or Priest pray in public like a hypocrite? Does he babble on and on? If so, he is defying Jesus.
    #2 - Christians keep quiet 2

In 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, Christians are encouraged to live quietly:

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
Is your Minister, Pastor or Priest living a quiet life, working with his hands and minding his own business?
#3 - Christians do not have wealth

In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus tells his followers to give up on possessions:

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
    In Matthew 19:21 Jesus says:
"If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
Does your Minister, Pastor or Priest live in a nice house, drive a nice car, wear nice clothes? Why? Why isn't he listening to Jesus?
#4 - Christians can demonstrate that they are Christians

In Mark 16:17-18, Jesus is very clear about what True Christians will be able to do to demonstrate their belief:

And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
Can your Minister, Pastor or Priest drink poison without dying? If not, according to Jesus, he must not believe.
Simply think about it. Jesus and the Bible are quite clear about these things. And your Minister, Pastor or Priest should have the closest connection to Jesus of anyone you know. Is your Minister, Pastor or Priest following the Bible? Probably not. There is no one you know who is doing all of these things. There is no Christian on earth who can drink poison without dying.

The reason why your Minister, Pastor or Priest ignores the Bible is because God is imaginary. If God were real, your Minister, Pastor or Priest would be following the Bible to the letter. And so would you.
