PROSECUTE GERRY ADAMS? PROSECUTE ALL NON REPORTERS

PROSECUTE GERRY ADAMS?

PROSECUTE ALL NON REPORTERS

THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS (A CATHOLIC) IN BELFAST HAS SAID THAT HE HAS ASKED THE ATTORNEY GENERAL ( A CATHOLIC) IN BELFAST TO REVIEW THE DECISION BY THE PPS NOT TO PROSECUTE SINN FEIN LEADER GERRY ADAMS FOR NOT REPORTING HIS BROTHER LIAM ADAMS
LIAM ADAMS

TO THE AUTHORITIES AFTER HIS BROTHER ADMITTED TO HIM THAT HE HAD SEXUALLY ABUSED HIS NIECE.
GERRY ADAMS
LAST WEEK LIAM ADAMS WAS SENT TO PRISON FOR HIS CRIMES AND IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS HE IS TO BE SENTENCED.

GERRY ADAMS HAD ADMITTED THAT HE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THE SEXUAL ABUSE AND HAD MADE A STATEMENT A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO TO THE POLICE.

HE HAS ALSO ADMITTED THE SAD FACT THAT HIS OWN FATHER HAD PHYSICALLY AND SEXUALLY ABUSED FAMILY MEMBERS OVER MANY YEARS.

APART FROM THE CRIMINAL ASPECT THE WHOLE AFFAIR HAS BEEN A FAMILY TRAGEDY - DIVIDING THE FAMILY AT LEAST IN TWO AND CAUSING GREAT PAIN FOR MANY - ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO WERE VICTIMS OF THE ABUSE.

AS FAR AS I KNOW MR ADAMS SNR IS NOW DECEASED AND WE MUST LEAVE HIS JUDGEMENT AND PUNISHMENT TO A GREATER JUDGE THAT A BELFAST JUDGE.

LIAM ADAMS HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY AND AWAITS SENTENCING AND WILL I IMAGINE SPEND A LARGE AMOUNT OF TIME IN PRISON.

HOPEFULLY THE WHOLE FAMILY AND THE VICTIMS IN PARTICULAR WILL NOW BEGIN A PERIOD OF HEALING.

THE CURRENT THOUGHTS OF PROSECUTING GERRY ADAMS ARE A VERY ILL THOUGHT OUT PURSUIT BY THE BELFAST AUTHORITIES. THEY SMACK OF MASSIVE POLITICAL OPPORTUNISM.

THE FACT THAT THE DECISIONS ABOUT PROSECUTION NOW LIE IN THE HANDS OF CATHOLICS - BARRY MCGRORY AND JOHN LARKIN IS ALSO A BIT WORRYING.

WILL THESE TWO MEN NOW HAVE TO PROVE JUST HOW VERY ABSOLUTELY IMPARTIAL THEY ARE BY RECOMMENDING THE PROSECUTION OF A HIGH RANKING AND POLITICALLY  CONTROVERSIAL MAN LIKE GERRY ADAMS - THE PRESIDENT OF SINN FEIN?

DOES IT REALLY MAKE SENSE THAT A CURRENT MEMBER OF DAIL EIREANN -  THE IRISH PARLIAMENT - WILL NOW BE PUT ON TRIAL BY THE BELFAST / BRITISH AUTHORITIES?

AND IF YOU ARE GOING TO PROSECUTE GERRY ADAMS FOR NOT REPORTING SEXUAL ABUSE - ARE YOU ALSO GOING TO START PROSECUTING SOME OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS IN NORTHERN IRELAND FOR NOT REPORTING ABUSE - PEOPLE LIKE THE FORMER CATHOLIC BISHOP OF DOWN AND CONNOR - BISHOP PATRICK WALSH - WHO WAS BOTH SLOW AND UNWILLING TO REPORT THE SERIAL PAEDOPHILE AND PARISH PRIEST OF BANGOR - FATHER JAMES DONAGHY WHO IS NOW IN PRISON WITH LIAM ADAMS?
PADDY WALSH
ARE YOU ALSO GOING TO PROSECUTE ALL THE GRANDPARENTS, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, AUNTS AND UNCLES AND COUSINS OF VICTIMS WHO KNEW ABOUT THE ABUSE AND DID NOT GO TO THE POLICE - ESPECIALLY AT A TIME IN NORTHERN IRELAND WHEN THE POLICE FORCE - THE RUC - WAS UNACCEPTABLE TO CATHOLICS.

IF SO, WE WILL HAVE TO BUILD SEVERAL NEW PRISONS FOR "NON-REPORTERS".

THIS WHOLE SCHEME IS BADLY THOUGHT OUT AND IS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED - BY PEOPLE WITH VERY SUSPECT POLITICAL MOTIVATIONS.

  1. Gerry Adams is not my favourate person. However the fact that he did not report his brother is family related & complicated. I never heard of Liam Adams until this moment and I can only presume his missdeeds are now uncovered and due process of law is in place. Corporate coverup as in a bishop not reporting an abusing or alleged abusing cleric is a different matter. I certainly do not believe Irish Bishops see their priests as their family & if someone can show me that they do I will stand corrected. Bishops as Chief Executives of their diocese have a responsability to comply with just civil requirements of the jurisdiction in which they exist. I can appreciate how going after Gerry Adams on this occasion would make him nothing more than a scapegoat. It would not serve the common good. Sean

  2. A very very well written piece Bishop Pat. I also presume that many of these Catholic law people are out to prove how loyal they are to the state, that they are good servants and citizens who can be trusted!

Just my view - in fact I actually do not understand how any Catholic could work in a 'Crown Court' in the 6 counties!

  3. I would love to know that stats with regard to how many Catholics are prosecuted to Protestants in Belfast Courts. It was scary to hear that over 80% of young offenders are Catholic in Belfast!

Have things really changed or just ignored?

  4. It is amazing, there have been numerous child abuse cases in the occupied six counties throughout the years, most notably the Kincora boys home case and not a peep out of any of the naysayers.

  5. Let's be clear about this. Gerry Adams knew what his brother was at back in 1987, this was well before all the dirt about the the Catholic church started to come out. Gerry knew all about his brother and his dirty little secrets all the time he was berating clergy, politicians and society. Gerry Adams, is a complete self serving hypocrite, who's only loyalty seems to be to himself. If he had any decency he would go. Of course there are the usual deluded idiots who will say that this is all a British/Unionist/Loyalist plot to besmirch St Gerry, but any of us with half a conscience know what is going on.

Yes, prosecute the Bishops etc whom reported NOT either. I have to be honest and find myself concerned with the lack of concern for the victims of these people!

  6. I've no doubt that some suitable grounds for Adams stepping down before the next general election will be found. He can't be ditched by the more forward thinking elements of SF because he has too much traction with the 'old guard' who have conflated (and wholly identify) Adams, the man, with the movement he represents. Ditching him runs the risk of engendering yet another of the rifts that have characterised Irish republicanism over the decades.

The 'old guard' will continue to blindly endorse him (even if it means having to indulge in the usual moral and semantic gymnastics) and the new blood (mindful of their own careers) will offer the standard political expressions of support whilst manouevering in the background to get him to go of his own accord.

His position is untenable and there is nothing special about Adams that makes him bigger than SF. How soon, or how late, he comes to realise that will be a mark of his political leadership.

  7. A lot of the voters in Louth could 'understand' the reason given for the murder of a widowed mother of 10 and the dumping of her body on one of their beaches.

They have strong stomachs in that part of the world.

  8. It is shocking to hear about the child abuse that continued throughout generations of the Adams dynesty. It is also testimony to the "skills" of the SF party spin "doctors" that they (along with many others) were able to cover up this activity for so many years. However child sexual abuse is such a serious issue that we should not engage in political point scoring (however tempting). For what it is worth i have nothing but respect and admiration for Aine Adams who is a very brave lady and i wish all the best on her road to recovery.Hopefully now that the truth has prevailed, she can finally start to rebuild her life,.Sadly she will probably never fully recover from the crimes/abuse she was subjected to from the very people who should have been protecting her.

  9. The courts are going to be very busy if they start prosecuting people who knew and didn’t do anything about it. They priests didn’t get away with it for so long because nobody knew, they got away with it because people knew and did nothing.

Are they going to 'do' the entire family.

  12. In my view Gerry Adams knew once Aine Adams went to the Police that the Police and British intelligence in conjunction with Unionist meda would exploit her vulnerable position. They would not have been interested in her rape claims and she admitted this, hence her withdrawing the complaint. MI5 and Unionist politicians were stepped in child abuse and rape at Kincora boys institution, read the following.

“Lord Mountbatten linked to Kincora child abuse ring
national | miscellaneous | news report Sunday December 08, 2002 23:10 by ***** ***probably the best war in the world
It was alledged in the book ‘War of the Windsors’, and the Sunday People newspaper pg17, that Lord Mountbatten was rumoured to have been linked to the Kincora boy’s abuse network. Lord Mountbatten the last viceroy in India, was reknowned to be wildly promiscuous, bisexual and to enjoy a bit of ‘rough’ or the plesures of young working class boys or indeed peasant indian boys. In other words Lord Mountbatten enjoyed rogering the children of lower classes and peasants globally.”

  13. While I can’t stand Adams I cqn understand his position in not going to ruc when it would be used against him. Fair enough but after the good Friday agreement and the founding of the psni then he should have made statement as soon as possible

  14. Do you really believe that since the changing from the uniform with the RUC crest to replacing it with the crest of the PSNI but with the same individual wearing the uniform; that the Police in the North had instantaneously changed from being a corrupt Police force to one of high ethical standards? Do you really believe that since the goodfriday agreement that some of the most sinister and dark forces of world espionage and creators of propaganda I.e. MI5 and MI6 have gone away?
If you do, then you have no concept of the sinister and murky forces that operate on this Island of ours.

I would NOT go to the RUC or PSNI over this issue.

  15. I can honestly say hand on heart I would shop ANY person who I found out was abusing a young / elderly or vulnerable person no matter how much I loved them with no qualms. Aine Dahlstrom you are a courageous woman and I hope you have a happy life after a childhood of hell.

  16. If this was a priest or a bishop we would be calling for him to cease his Ministry and we would be screaming for him to be charged. The issues here are quite simple and straightforward. We shouldn’t be complicating the matter with nonsense about family privacy.

  17. The RUC and the Social Services doing nothing when the rape of a child I.e. Aine Adams was reported to them. This is equal to the Catholic Church, the Gardai and the Irish state doing nothing about the abuse and rape of children under their care. Should there not be charges brought against those in authority that either failed or for some perverse reason choose not to act and protect Aine Adams?
This attack on Gerry Adams is vile and nothing but blatant propaganda by British intelligence and Irish politicians, who are exploiting the rape of a child as opportunistic so as to destroy the growing support for Sinn Fein…..(I am not a member). However I view these developments as disturbing in view of the circumstances. What makes it more disturbing is reading the many comments on here by people who allow themselves to be sucked into the propaganda not because of the rape of a child but because they do not like Gerry Adams. Now that is a corrupt mentality!

  18. It just seems so unlikely that Gerry could have knowledge of crimes and hasn’t told any of the authorities. I just couldn’t fathom that he wouldn’t act with honesty and integrity, given his chosen career path.

  19. Sounds like people in high places might have questions to answer in the 6 , no satisfactory answers were ever given to the Kincora scandal , might all come out now ….

  20. Would you be happy if your child attended a youth club that you discovered was staffed by a child rapist in full knowledge of the area’s MP/TD? Then again the Bishops and PP's did it for years if not centuries.

  21. Something else really concerns me about this. It seems Gerry Adams is at risk of prosecution because, in the process of providing testimony that helped convict a sex offender, he admitted not passing on information to the police at the time.

The message to anyone in the same position is: if you did not report any information you have about a crime immediately, you should never admit to knowing it at all. This would make it harder to achieve convictions in the future, as many criminal prosecutions rely on witnesses being persuaded to testify about stuff that they had never reported before.

So if people can put their dislike/hatred of Gerry Adams to the side, can they honestly say it’s in the public interest to prosecute someone on the basis of the testimony that helped achieve a conviction against one of the worst types of monster there is?

Like it or not, there are lots of people out there who have information about all sorts of crimes that for one reason or another they have not reported. In my opinion, we would be far better served by persuading them to come forward and testify, no matter how long has passed, rather than seeking to punish them for not testifying sooner.

  22. Whether he is prosecuted or not does not really matter.
It is clear that he let down his Niece. Prosecution/Jail/ Fine will never undo that.
Much the same with the Church, no matter how many waterfront halls, what they did will not be undone - by their fruits!!!

  23. I hope that if they are going to prosecute Adams they will also prosecute those RUC officers who were more interested in her uncle in the crimes committed against the victim. This also poses the questions of who else knew about the sexual abuse-what if it was known by most family members including aunts, uncles, cousins etc do all of these get prosecuted as well.

A lot of disgusting and reprehensible acts of child sex abuse acts occurred in this country in the last few decades by members of the Catholic Church. A lot of people just turned a blind eye to what was happening, bishops, fellow priests, gardai, members of the medical profession, hell even the parents of victims dismissed what was happening. Are we to arrest the parents of victims who did not to the guards even when their children told them of the abuse. This is a very tricky subject, in my opinion a lot of individuals within families just did not know what to do when they found out what was happening.
I would treat these cases a bit differently from cases where abuse victims went to guards or doctors with stories of abuse and the allegations were ignored or brushed to one side. These are unforgivable acts by professionals which should be seriously punished in my opinion.

  24. In my view and Aine Adams admitted this, the Police and the authorities were not interested in her claims of tale as they were only interested in exploiting her vulnerability as a victim for their twisted gain. Gerry Adams in my view knew that the Police and British intelligence in conjunction with the media would exploit Aine Adams. MI5 and Unionist politicians were at the time covering up abuse and rape of children at Kincora? Read the following.
“Lord Mountbatten linked to Kincora child abuse ring

  25. Loads of people kept it in family for decades.Lets prosecute them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave Gerry alone another case of attacking the man,not because they give a dam about him withholding information. Its merely because he is who he is. This is nothing more than a witch hunt.
They are letting pedos murderers and rapists out every day and they serve meaningless time. Can wander the street every day around our kids and decent people.
I am sure he lives with guilt of not doing more all the time,he is only human.
However wrong he was he thought he wad doing right thing, and its been proven ruc didnt give a toss about her being abused. So it should be the ones she went to in law establishment who should be charged not Gerry..

  30. The DPP and the Judges in Belfast need to be held accountable in a public way in my view. They are and have hidden behind security screens for much too long. They have an agenda and they are the most small minded and unprofessional group in Western Europe, although their pay packets do NOT reflect this fact.

These people have RELIGIOUS & POLITICAL agendas, the law people that is.

  31. I think its more than the fact that he did not report his brother's abuse. Gerry Adams put Liam in a job working with young people in his own community, knowing that he was an abuser - blatantly disregarding their safety and well being. This shows that he has no respect for anyone and is clearly focused on his own gains. Knowing of abuse and not reporting it is in itself abuse to the victim, whether politician, bishop or family member.
