ARCHBISHOP ASS-HOLE
An archbishop caused fury in Spain by saying domestic violence happens
because “women do not obey men”.
The Roman Catholic Archbishop of
Toledo, Braulio Rodriguez, told his congregation that wives could avoid being
hit by doing what they are told.
Women could also escape being
physically abused by not asking their husbands for a divorce. Rodriguez said.
He told churchgoers in his sermon: “The majority of cases of domestic
violence happen because the woman’s partner does not accept them, or rejects
them for not accepting their demands.
“Or often the macho reaction comes about because she asked for a
separation."
He also said many relationship problems occurred because the couple were
not in a ‘true marriage’, and he criticised the practice of ‘quickie divorces’.
He said: “I don’t think our political leaders are worried about divorce
figures when they have fought so hard to implement the so-called quick divorce
laws.
He made the comments during a mass held in Toledo Cathedral on December
27, and they were later published in the Our Father parish bulletin.
Thousands of furious Spanish women have now taken to social media to
slam the cleric.
One wrote: “The archbishop of Toledo has linked domestic violence to
couples not being in a ‘proper marriage’. So says the celibate man who believes
in a ghost.”
Another added: “He should be locked up for inciting violence. This idiot
should keep his medieval views to himself.”
In 2015, 56 women were killed in Spain because of domestic violence.
More than one million cases of domestic violence have been dealt with by
the Spanish courts since 2007, with judges handing down prison sentences to
148,000 men.
PAT SAYS:
What kind of moron - in the 21st century blames domestic violence on women not OBEYING men!
There is something seriously wrong with this man.
He needs to be removed from ALL pastoral situations where he is involved with people and put in some monastery where his 16th century beliefs do not impinge on people or society!

Men like this - as well as abusing priests (abuse of all kinds - children, women and men) are destroying the Catholic Church and emptying its pews.
ReplyDeleteI have had enough. After decades I've simply walked away and now talk to God at home.
Kilkeel 82 year old.
My priest has said - often - if a woman is beaten by her husband she should leave her house immediately and not come back until he has gone down on his knees and begged for her forgiveness!
DeleteSam
And even then - 11.53 - do not return for a fortnight.
DeleteSam
I would suggest that Sam's priest's advice would be acceptable to most Catholics, Bishops and priests than this Spanish Bishop's peculiar - for want of a better word - aberration! Pay no attention - perhaps he had a very "off" day!!'

A man doesn't own his marriage; he is only the steward of his wife’s love.A man may give his wife a mink coat, but his name is her best covering.Getting married is easy. Staying married is another matter.Three common problems in relationships between men and women, whether single or married: Communication, sex and money.
ReplyDeleteWhen a man acts like a child, it forces his wife to act like his mother. When a man lets a woman take his decision-making responsibilities, he'll be off the hook — and resent it.
ReplyDeleteWoman was created to be the completion of man, not his competition.Women dream of men in the ideal but marry the real.Women tend to give ultimatums while men make accusations.Women want the same things in men that God wants: consistency, decisiveness and strength.
ReplyDeleteMedieval- of the worst kind certainly! No woman( or man,for that matter --)should ever continue in a relationship in which there is verbal or physical abuse or intentional subtle cruelty of any kind. When you tolerate abuse, you give the abuser permission to repeat and you won't have long to wait!
ReplyDeleteThis idiot is described in Wikipedia that as Archbishop of Toledo he is RC Primate of Spain! He is only 72 (my own age), so relatively young.
ReplyDeleteSo to come out with this sort of chauvinistic nonsense in this day and age certainly reveals a lot about his training, experience, and personal development as well as the RC church system that fosters such arcane thinking.
No wonder many follow same path as Kilkeel lady.

I have posted on here a few times before that, like Kilkeel lady, I don't need priests, Catholic Church ( or any church or faith group) to speak to God. I chat to him every morning, during the day and I have a wee bleather at night. No need for a mobile, pc, iPad or email. Just a very simple chat and a prayer asking for help to be the best I can be.. So Kilkeel lady, I hope your new found way of direct personal communication with God is fulfilling. By the way you don't have to put money on a plate on a Sunday any more to support a power mad, money hungry abusive organisation.
ReplyDeleteAnd more power to you, and Kilkeel poster too.
DeleteYou both seem to have an affinity to the spiritual as opposed to the materialistic status quo ideology.
And that is good, in recognising that basic and simple care and concern for others takes precedence over preservation of arcane belief systems based on highly selective, unreliable writings of wandering middle eastern tribes of 2000+ years ago.

A head without a body is dead. If you had a true relationship with the head, then you would automatically want to have a relationship with the body. The Church is the body of Christ. If one part of the body is hurt all the other parts feel the hurt. Unfortunately the wheat and the tares grow side by side and only at harvest time will here be a separation. You 'NEED' to be joined to the branches of the vine to draw life from the vine and let the 'Vinedresser' deal with the rotten grapes.
DeleteThis and the previous post raise another question about what the hierarchy is actually like, even today. Pope Francis has taken a few high -profile actions about a few in the hierarchy but if you look at his whole record, I feel his record is mixed. There is a lot of talk but little action, in fact he appointed a bishop known to be involved in paedophilia in? Mexico (not sure) and the people protested the installation.
ReplyDeleteMark my words, this guy will either just be left where he is or, if people apply too much pressure, 'punished' by being given a sinecure in the Vatican.
+Pat, is this a belated (not to mention, tasteless) April Fool's joke?
ReplyDeleteNo. It is a true story. I know it sounds incredible.
DeleteHappy St George's Day everyone.
ReplyDeleteWestminster Priest
Ahh how lovely! And to you too!

Hi Pat, that Archbishop is clearly a liability and the Pope should have a word with him - or give him the boot (preferably)!
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your other blog about the crisis in Down and Connor, so sorry this is a bit off the topic of that twit of an Archbishop.
You report about a priest in Down and Connor making a move on a young lad whom he was "counselling" about the lad's sexuality.
We had a similar case in Derry involving Fr Andy McCloskey and a young lad of 18. Hegarty atrociously mishandled it. There was a BBC Spotlight programme about it. McCloskey has disappeared without trace and Hegarty, as we all know, has "dementia" (Aye right!).
My point is - is Bishop Trainor mad? If he has a priest still in ministry, who behaved like that in a counselling situation then there is gonna be a s--t storm very soon! Likewise with the guy posting pictures of bits on a gay internet site.
Is Trainor crazy??? Has he learnt nothing from the misfortunes of other dioceses and the inaction of other bishops??
Noel must be mentally ill - or in some way incapacitated - if he thinks he is going to sit on these and other scandalous situations.
There is going to be such an explosion as will turn his white hair back to black!! God help the diocese of Down and Connor.
Derry Damian.
Where do you find these idiots. The supermarkets came up with ALDI & LIDL as an alternative so what have we got.....
ReplyDeleteHow do the bishop's views compare to those expressed in the following Koranic verse?
ReplyDelete"Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand. (4:34)"
Some may wonder if a future ideological struggle will not feature the moribund Catholic church and its elderly bishops, who show as much resistance as a worn-out punch bag, but the vibrant and flourishing set of medieval beliefs that we have imported to these islands. The same beliefs that unequivocally demand death for men who lie with men.
+Pat, Were the good wishes for St George Day expressed earlier by a Westminster Piest coming from Dr Hugh Kennedy by any chance?
