ARCHBISHOP DIARMUID MARTIN - PART 2

ARCHBISHOP DIARMUID MARTIN - PART 2

DIARMUID MARTIN
AS PROMISED on this Blog yesterday I have spoken with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and have passed on to him everybody's concerns about both Maynooth and Dublin seminarians and priests connected with what I call the MAYNOOTH SYNDROME.

I know that some of you in your comments have been critical of Diarmuid Martin and have claimed that he cares as little about these problems as the rest of the Irish Bishops appear to.

I might be wrong or proved wrong but at the moment I TRUST AND BELIEVE IN DIARMUID MARTIN.

He is obviously very concerned about Maynooth - particularly in so far as it affects his own seminarians and priests in DUBLIN.

But Diarmuid Martin is faced with a number of difficulties:

1. In order to act about an accusation about a priest or seminarian he needs both information and evidence.

2. When a seminarian or a priest is accused Diarmuid Martin has to give them due process. In other words he must allow them to answer allegations.

3. We have already discovered and highlighted the fact that Diarmuid Martin is not liked by most if not all of the other Irish bishops. This leaves him in a very lonely position when it comes to tackling Maynooth and other problems. In fact he has said that he is "barely tolerated in Maynooth".

4. Diarmuid Martin is in the process of withdrawing ALL his seminarians from Maynooth and by next year he will have NO seminarian in Maynooth. What greater sign could we have that Maynooth is not fit for purpose.

In Ireland we have 28 bishops who sit on the Bishop's Conference - 26 diocesan bishops and two Dublin auxiliaries.

Diarmuid Martin is the senior and most respected Irish Catholic bishop. He is the vice president of the Bishop's Conference.

Technically Eamon Martin of Armagh is more senior in an honorary way. But we all know that Eamon Martin is a lightweight when it comes to courage and leadership.

EATING CAKE WHILE "ROME" BURNS !!!

Diarmuid Martin, who may not be perfect, has leadership qualities. He is taken seriously by the Irish people.

In fact I hope that Pope Francis will make Diarmuid Martin a cardinal at the next consistory. There is a precedent for this with Cardinal Paul Cullen and Cardinal Desmond Connell.

Large studies of homosexuality in the seminary have been carried out in the USA. Below is a film from a right wing Catholic group about the topic.

I include it for your information.

I DO NOT AGREE WITH ALL THAT VORTEX SAYS:

I DO NOT SUPPORT VORTEX OR CHURCHMILITANT.COM

BUT THE FILM TELLS US WHAT IS GOING ON IN US SEMINARIES - MUCH OF WHICH IS GOING ON IN MAYNOOTH:

But back to our topic - I would urge you all to supply Diarmuid Martin with all the information and evidence you have about Maynooth, seminarians and priests in order to enable him to act.

I can guarantee you that any information you submit to this Blog or to me personally will be passed directly on.

PLEASE SEND GIVE INFORMATION / EVIDENCE TO:

WE PARTICULARLY NEED TO HEAR FROM SEMINARIANS, EX SEMINARIANS AND PRIESTS OR ANYONE WITH A MAYNOOTH CONNECTION.

  1. Indeed Pat, the next scandal is upon us - God help us. Those reckless and irresponsible Priests in Maynooth have been left far too long in their respective positions. We are now witnessing their rotten fruits.

How much longer can this continue?

  2. Eamon Martin appears to be a nice and charitable Archbishop, but he smacks of effeminacy. He is certainly not a leader.

I am hoping and praying that Diarmuid Martin will act with determination and finally shut "Gaynooth" down!

    1. I am too. The Pope needs to give him the Red Hat and personally appoint him as president of the Bishop's Conference.

Archbishop Diarmuid is today heading for the World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland.

Our young seminarians and priests need protection.

  3. We will now see whether Diarmuid Martin is as genuine about stamping out abuse in the Church as he purports to be. It all starts in the seminary, as Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his pastoral letter to Irish Catholics.

Clean out Maynooth, Diarmuid, and you will certainly deserve a red hat.

  4. Bishop, is this Dublin seminarian that is been accused with this priest still a seminarian or has he been ordained?

    4. This seminarian and Sean Jones must certainly not be ordained. I really am nonplussed at the timidity and tentativeness of the Irish Bishops. They are acting just as their precursors did with the last case of sexual scandals.

I had hoped that Diarmuid Martin was different. We will now see.

  6. I have spoken about this scandal to the religious affairs correspondent of The Irish Times.

He thinks that it is about:

GAY MEN HAVING CONSENSUAL SEX WITH EACH OTHER !!!

But these men are seminarians and priests.

They are on internet sites that are about BODY HUNTING (To use a Diarmuid Martin term).

    They have promises of celibacy.

They preach one thing and DO another.

They have access to other vulnerable men in parishes etc.

Its NOT about lay gay men having consensual sex with each other.

The CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE from the media on this one is STAGGERING

How deep does this go ??????

    1. Pat, do the Irish Times really think that students being harassed by Priests, and Deacons propositioning 1st year seminarians, is simply a case of consenting adults? My God, it really goes to show you how far Irish journalistic standards have fallen.

The Irish Times has lost all sense of objective reality.

    2. I can only say what they told me when I asked them. That was part of their answer.

The other part was about having enough proof to publish.

But they have not even published the fact that this topic is raging and even has the Archbishop of Dublin exercised.

  7. Well, this should guarantee he never sees the red...unless he does a convincing cover up. Pat, don't be taken in by Pope Francis. Despite the rhetoric his record as far as justice is concerned, is atrocious. His pontificate has seen little actual action to prevent abuse, his nuncio prevented a full investigation of John Neinstedt, men implicated in abuse have been appointed to senior positions, and of course he quashed the Price Waterhouse Cooper audit into Vatican finances. The answer to a question you have posed before is that the church cannot be reformed. At this point it is a refuge for unrepentant criminals and their enablers. To be frank, the only way ahead for concerned Christians is to adopt your own ecclesial and prophetic position.

  11. Below is a quote from Pope Benedict's Pastoral Letter to the Catholics of Ireland. It follows his preamble in which he set the previous Irish Catholic sexual scandals in their historical context:

Certainly, among the contributing factors we can include: inadequate procedures for determining the suitability of
candidates for the priesthood and the religious life; insufficient human, moral, intellectual and spiritual formation in seminaries and novitiates; a tendency in society to favour the clergy and
other authority figures; and a misplaced concern for the reputation of the Church and the avoidance of scandal, resulting in failure to apply existing canonical penalties and to safeguard the
dignity of every person. Urgent action is needed to address these factors, which have had such tragic consequences in the lives of victims and their families, and have obscured the light of the
Gospel to a degree that not even centuries of persecution succeeded in doing.

It is certainly the case that no such urgent action has or is being taken.

    Disillusioned Irish Catholic.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Did you notice that Pope Benedict used the term "urgent action is needed" in relation to resolving sexual abuse. It sickens me when I hear some Priests and Bishops telling people to just "pray and trust in God". God requires actions as well as prayers - especially from his ministers.

Thanks be to God Pat that you are a man of action and not just words.

Let's see whether Archbishop Diarmuid Martin is a man of action or just another "cymbal clashing" or a "gong booming".

      Delete
    2. Benedict also said in his letter that "painful remedies" will be needed to bind and heal the wounds inflicted by cases of sexual abuse perpetrated by Catholic clergy.

Finally closing down Maynooth and exposing all these deceptive and duplicitous priests and seminarians is the most important remedy that can be applied.

      Delete
  12. Pope Benedict called for "urgent action". Part of that action was the visitation of Maynooth and the Irish College in Rome, by Cardinal Dolan.

Rome got a clear out. Maynooth stayed untouched. WHY? Was Card. Dolan duped? Did he turn a blind eye and a deaf ear? Was his arm twisted?

"Something is rotten in the State of Denmark".

As regards Abp Martin - the fact that he is "barely tolerated" in Maynooth is shocking and it speaks volumes.

They hate him because he stood up for victims of clerical sexual abuse, against the corrupt, soulless and cynical "clerical club", from which emanate these latest revelations of wickedness.

Let Diarmuid Martin now show whether he has true mettle and for once and for all shut down a rotting seminary which is established in his own diocese.

It was a sick mind that dreamt up the "wounded healer" lie and insult. I'm sure it was "high fives" all around the table. in Ara Coeli, when the "wounded healer" was concocted by some fawning minion of Brady's!

    3. Articles re Maynooth carried in Catholic Voice, Irish Catholic and other sources that go back to 2011/12. The report by Cardinal Dolan on behalf of Pope Benedict gave false hope that St Patrick's seminary might close. Who should be held accountable for the dire decision not to implement the closure? The bishops did have a lot of sway as always. Some good reviews in blogs on Association of Catholic Priests re Dolan's findings. Wonder would the same priests still think he was wrong and that his findings were unjust. Where was Diarmuid Martin et al when good seminarians were 'heaved' out of Maynooth for the very act of kneeling during the consecration of the mass, and generally wanting to follow the true teaching of the catholic church? Whilst it is evident that there is a very real and actively gay population in or related to Maynooth it now, I feel, casts another unfortunate slur on those men who are innocent of any wrongdoing and only want to be true disciples of the Lord.

    4. I would like to suggest that any seminarian/s deemed UNSUITABLE to proceed mid 'training' by Maynooth Seminary formation team / or by diocesan Bishops in the last few years and who were 'heaved out', should be contacted immediately [possibly by the Archbishop of Dublin, or by the Papal Nuncio, or .... someone who is trustworthy! ] with a view to having the case/s examined by an independent body - IF the ex seminarian/s so choose/s. If the worst thing they ever did was to stand at the consecration, or spend too much time in the Adoration Chapel - praying!, or display independence of thought, or who generally wanted to follow the true teaching of the Catholic church, they're streets ahead of some candidates who WERE deemed suitable to proceed to Deaconite and Priesthood and who now have been seen [ by recent accounts ] to be incredibly unsuitable. 15. It is, indeed, astounding that the Irish media are keeping schtum about this unfolding saga for, most certainly, it is a hundred times worse than poor old Casey's doings.

He was dishonest and a hypocrite. Gaynooth, however, by comparison, is "way out there".

It certainly fuels the suspicion that highly-placed individuals, in the Irish Catholic Church, are compromised and that every conceivable, machiavellian, trick in the book, is being employed to keep this scandal out of the national and international papers.

Can +Diarmuid grasp this nettle? Surely he has direct access to the most powerful men in Rome, including the Pope himself?

Imagine if +Diarmuid issued the following:

"Holy Father, your predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI ordered an apostolic visitation of the Irish College, Rome and Maynooth College, as part of an unprecedented intervention in the Irish Church, in the wake of scandals of clerical sexual abuse.

With regard to the apostolic visitation of Maynooth, Cardinal Timothy's Dolan's damning report was suppressed, disregarded and ignored by the Irish bishops.

This has led to continued abuses in Maynooth and has provoked what is now a major crisis. I request a direct intervention to regularise the situation in Maynooth College and canonical penalties be imposed on ALL those whose actions and activities have led to this appalling vista. Those who were complicit and negligent should also face penalties.

Furthermore, Holy Father, I respectfully ask, that, in view of this latest scandal, you change the venue of the World Meeting of Families in 2018 to somewhere other than Dublin, Ireland.

The Irish Church, at present, is no condition - spiritually, morally and pastorally - to have the honour of hosting this event".

That would fairly well soften a few coughs and, if any of their lordships and their hangers-on suffer from constipation, well that would no longer be the case either!

Does +Diarmuid have the metal? It's all very well to be "concerned" and to move his lads out. Gaynooth, at the end of the day, is in HIS DIOCESE!

They are so involved in the seminarians' end of year assessments - reports, and yet I'll bet no one assesses THEIR ability, their powers of discernment, or indeed their integrity re. assessing seminarians from year to year!! And judging by some of the speculation / evidence re. some seminarians, deacons, priests, ... who are now under scrutiny [ people whom the formation team/s and the relevant bishops deemed as suitable for the Deaconite and for Priesthood, ... in recent years ] the judgement of the formation team/s and the Bishops does need to be seriously or even ROBUSTLY questioned, and investigated. ROBUSTLY seems to be a favourite word of church authorities in Ireland. I recall that when responding to questions about the allegations, [May 2016 ] Maynooth College President Msgr Hugh Connolly is reported to have '...insisted that robust procedures for addressing such claims are in place.' Maybe they are in place, but one would have to ask IF they were actually followed. Maybe the procedures weren't THAT robust after all. I'd be very, very doubtful that they were followed robustly!

    3. I suggest it's a problem in itself that you do not have a problem with 'seminary gays'. Probably why Maynooth is in the state it's in! It's not a case of consent or not or of legal age. All seminarians & clergy are expected to be celibate. If they cannot be so then they should do the decent thing and return to secular life. We teach our youth about the dangers of permissiness all the way through to health implications of risky behaviours. So an attitude of 'it's fine to be a gay seminarian'or clergy & actively gay is NOT ok. To draw a parallel to heterosexual couples is deluded, absurd & offensive.
