ARCHBISHOP DIARMUID MARTIN

ARCHBISHOP DIARMUID MARTIN

DIARMUID MARTIN
DIARMUID MARTIN is probably the best known of the Irish Catholic Bishops and is a frequent contributor to the media.

Like a lot of public figures and people who appear in the media Diarmuid Martin is either LIKED or NOT LIKED. There is no in between. Nobody is neutral about him.

Journalists and media people like him because he is outspoken and honest. He does not hide behind platitudes or sound bites. He answers the questions he is asked and if he does not want to answer he says that.

Victims of church and clerical abuse like him because he has listened to them and has believed them. He has taken them seriously and has done his best for them here in Ireland and in Rome.

EAMON WALSH - IN LIMBO?

A large number of the priests of Dublin archdiocese DO NOT like him. They seem to think that he is remote from them. They seem to think that he does not consent them enough. And many have not forgiven him for demanding the resignation of the two Dublin auxiliary bishops over the abuse scandal - Bishop Eamon Walsh and Bishop Raymond Field. Even though Diarmuid Martin asked them to tender their resignations to Rome - Rome refused to accept the resignations. So in effect Walsh and Field have been two lame duck bishops ever since. One wonders what they do with their time? Maybe they have taken up crocheting or knitting?

RAYOMD FIELD - IN LIMBO

The other Irish bishops do not like Diarmuid Martin. This is most on display when the bishops meet in Maynooth for their quarterly meetings. While their Graces and Lordships head for the Pugin Hall (or wherever) to wine and dine on the finest, Diarmuid takes a walk out to Maynooth village and has a bit of lunch in a local cafe.

When asked about the bishops and Maynooth he is on record as saying: "I'm barely tolerated in there".

What a strange and sad thing to say - especially when you consider that Maynooth is actually in Diarmuid Martin's own archdiocese!

DIARMUID MARTIN AND MAYNOOTH:

This Blog recently announced that Diarmuid Martin was withdrawing his seminarians from Maynooth. And he is. But that is not a recent decision on his part. I believe that he has been concerned about Maynooth for a long time now and his decision to remove his seminarians is therefore not just a recent decision.

But it is an extremely wise decision.

Maynooth seminary, like any institution run and inhabited by human beings, has had and increasingly has serious issues.

I personally know a priest who is now in his 80's who used to sneak his girlfriend into Maynooth in the late 1950's and have sex with her in his room. At that time there seemed to be a healthy mix of heterosexual and homosexual students - and I think that the majority then were hetero.

But increasingly Maynooth, like the priesthood in general, has become a gay entity. In fact I would hazard a guess and say that heterosexual seminarians in Maynooth today are as scarce as hen's teeth. Most of the seminarians there today are "Friends of Dorothy". In fact if Dorothy went to visit Maynooth today she would receive a welcome normally reserved to popes and cardinals.

Of course there is nothing wrong (in my view) of being a Friend of Dorothy. There is even nothing wrong with a Roman Catholic seminarian or priest being a Friend of Dorothy.

But Roman Catholic seminarians and priests have ANOTHER BIG HURDLE to get over if they want to be SEXUALLY ACTIVE Friends of Dorothy.

And that HURDLE is that the RC Church binds them to CHASTITY and to CELIBACY and they have promised to be both CHASTE and CELIBATE.

And then we have the problem that many Maynooth seminarians and priests have an app on their mobile phones called GRINDR.

An Irish bishop recently spoke to me about Grindr and called is a BODY HUNTING APP.

And he is right is he not? Grindr is not about looking for love. Grindr is about looking for no strings attached gay sex.

Grindr is not about lonely people looking for affection and companionship. It is about a sexually aroused man looking for another sexually aroused man to have sex with.

Grindr is not about beginning a temporary or life journey with someone. Its about F*** AND GO.

To me that is very different than a seminarian, a priest or even a lay man seeking love and companionship and being involved in a committed ONE TO ONE relationship with another person. And even though this second One To One is officially against Catholic Church teaching it is a totally different scenario to BODY HUNTING or about the promiscuous compulsion that sees other men as simple MEAT to be consumed!

Seminarians and priests on Grindr is no longer a ONE DIOCESE problem as we saw when Father Rory Coyle of Armagh was found on Grindr.

RORY COYLE - ON GRINDR
Why is Archbishop EAMON Martin leaving Father Rory Coyle's picture on the Armagh Parish website when he already gone away on a "time of reflection"?

Surely he does not plan to put Rory back in Armagh Parish???

After the Armagh Grindr shock we moved to a Grindr cleric in the Province of Munster

Sadly for Arcbishop Diarmuid the latest Grindr scandal priest - is a priest of Dublin - Father Chris Derwin - who in good faith Diarmuid ordained just 12 months ago having been assured by the Maynooth staff that he was suitable for ordination!

FR CHRIS DERWIN AFTER HIS ORDINATION  ON JUNE 3RD 2015

Archbishop Martin had appointed him curate of Balbriggan in North Dublin - but now has to move him again to ??????????

I spoke to Balbriggan parishioners this morning and they have been told that Father Derwin is being moved because he is "not getting on with the PP - Fr Eugene Taffe.

FR EUGENE TAFFE PP BALBRIGGAN

I was in seminary with Eugene Taffe and I always found him a pleasant and agreeable man. I would be amazed if he has become either a grumpy or difficult PP.

Connaught has not being represented of Grindr yet.

HOW MANY IRISH PRIESTS AND MAYNOOTH SEMINARIANS ARE ACTUALLY ON GRINDR ?

I imagine that Diarmuid Martin is concerned about seminarians and priests being on Grindr.

Are any of the other Irish bishops concerned about seminarians and priests being on Grindr?

If they are - they have not said so.

Maybe more cynical than me might ask the question: "Are these bishops themselkves compromised in such a way?

Before we rush to say - "Surely not" - let us remember Cardinal Keith O'Brien who had to step aside not so long ago over inappropriate behaviour with seminarians and priests.

KEITH O'BRIEN - IN PURGATORY?

As Archbishop Diarmuid Martin is removing his seminarians from Maynooth he will not have to be concerned about his own seminarians and the "Maynooth Syndrome".

But Maynooth is in his diocese. And before God he is the Father of the souls who are in Maynooth. In that sense he has vital, if not canonical, responsibility for them.

I expect he already is painfully aware of that - and I'm sure he will not be found wanting.

I trust in his integrity.

  1. Diarmuid Martin is not liked Pat because he is not an enabler or protector like the rest of the Episcopal Mafia. Phonsie Cullinan is also showing a desperately needed bit of backbone!

  4. Pat, I can assure you before God that not all seminarians are gay or sexually active. Some of us take celibacy seriously and are commited to living the celibate life to which we believe the Lord is calling us to live.

There are a few good seminarians in maynooth who are appaled and sickned by what's going on. I can assure you of that. We are sickned by curropt staff and we are sickned by evil seminarians who will do anything to cover up their sinful activities. Everyone knows who the gays are in maynooth, but they have the protection of the people in power. But we pat, trust in God, that he will one day bring justice for all those innocent seminarians who were either dismissed for proclaiming the truth or those seminarians who now have to return to maynooth because their bishops think maynooth is great. How sad all this is happening in our church. From a teareful seminarian who is trying his best to live a holy life alongside all this evil.

    1. Seminarian, Thank you for your sincere and heartfelt comment and I BELIEVE you and TRUST you absolutely.

I also feel so sad for you and your good fellow seminarians who are doing your very best.

Not only WILL God sort this out. As we speak he is in the PROCESS of sorting it out.

I want you to know that there is at least ONE bishop who is horrified about what is going on - and maybe one or two others. I do not think this. I KNOW it.

As I said earlier you can help our efforts to cleanse Maynooth by giving us all the information, evidence and details you have - including names.

You can do this anonymously if you wish.

God is currently diving the wheat from the darnal.

      My thoughts and prayers,

      Pat

  8. Fr Eugene Taffe is a good, hard-working honest priest. The previous curate in balbriggan left in suspicious circumstances. He left very quickly without saying goodbye.

I hope the parishioners of balbriggan will now see that Fr Taffe has done no wrong. I hope to God that this Fr Derwin is sent for rehabilitation or told that the priesthood is not for him and that he should try out the gay scene.

As bishops are taken from the body of priests it would be logical enough to conclude that some 50% of bishops are gay.

Of course being gay - and being actively gay - are two very different things.

But it does give pause for thought.

By doing nothing about Maynooth the Irish Bishops are undermining themselves and their own credibility - do you not think?

  18. Lets be sensible about this, there is no point in closing Maynooth and shifting all the students to Rome, that simply moves the problem elsewhere.

We need to consider a how candidates for seminary are selected - what kind of assessment is undertaken to ensure that candidates have the emotional maturity to enter into seminary - to engage with preparation for the priesthood etc?

We need to address the structures that in place for students while in seminary - how are they constructively challenged on their theological viewpoints, their lifestyle, their vision of priesthood.

What structures exist to help students who are struggling with personal issues such as sexuality in a healthy way - and an honest way - without fear of being persecuted by staff or students for their honesty?

What structures exist to help a body of students live together in a way that is mutually uplifting - from what I've read there appears to be a complete breakdown in the seminary community over the past year(s). Indeed I wonder if scores are being settled as names are being bandied about?

Is there a 'safety value' some independent person or body to whom a student who is concerned about his own welfare or the actions of others can go?

  22. This is an absolutely hideous situation. I am aghast - words fail me.

Do we want these "Grindr" men anywhere, next or near, our teenage boys and young men (those few that still participate in our parishes and come to Mass)?

I would question the validity of the ordination of the man recently exposed in our Dublin diocese.

The Archbishop should fast-track his dismissal from the clerical state, asap.

It is extremely doubtful this individual, given his chosen lifestyle. was in a fit and worthy state to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Surely his priestly ordination is null and void.

If Bishop Ray Brown proceeds with the priestly ordination of "King Puck" then there are grounds to believe Ray is mentally ill and unfit to oversee the diocese of Kerry.

Again, this individual needs dismissal from the clerical state and pronto!

That the formation team in Maynooth College are overseeing these individuals - in their progress towards ordination - and their being inflicted upon the People of God - is a MONSTROUS SCANDAL!!!

This vile evil of corruption has to be arrested and expunged. The Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith need to be made fully aware, of the gathering storm, of further devastating scandal, soon to be unleashed on Irish Catholics!

Archbishop Brown, this under YOUR WATCH AS NUNCIO!!! What are you doing??

If these corrupted and corrupting men are being "protected", or are the "proteges" of some "high personage(s), in the Irish Church, that cancerous tumour also has to be EXCISED!!! And SOON!

No disciple of Jesus Christ - never mind a Catholic priest - should be within a thousand miles of a vile meat market like "Grindr".

Expose all of them and get them out of our Church and Christ's priesthood. Even if the number of priests in Ireland was halved or quartered, we would be better placed to serve God's Church, with men uninvolved in this morass of Evil.

And Pat, you please be careful too and protect yourself. I hope you have good support. These individuals are evil and they have no consciences. They are wicked men who have hijacked the Church for their own diabolical purposes.

    Dublin priest.

  25. Diarmuid Martin is no different from the rest of the Bishops if he just moves this Priest to another Parish. He will be doing exactly what his cowardly predecessors did with the likes of Fr Brendan Smyth and all the other perverts. Fr Derwin tried to befriend underage men on Grindr - DOES DIARMUID MARTIN NOT UNDERSTAND THE RAMIFICATIONS OF KEEPING THIS MAN IN THE PRIESTHOOD? This Fr Derwin should never have been ordained in the first place.

I am shell-shocked that Diarmuid Martin is acting in such a sclerotic and hesitant manner concerning Fr Derwin and the Dublin seminarians in Maynooth. And as you have already reported Pat, the Archbishop has also been told by a former Dublin seminarian that there are serious issues with some members of the seminary formation staff. These allegations have been corroborated by Maynooth's recent graduates such as Fr Derwin and the soon to be ordained Deacon Sean Jones.

Gradually removing his seminarians from Maynooth is not decisive action from Archbishop Martin based on all the above. Leaving this Fr Derwin in situ is also gross negligence and cowardice on Martin's behalf. Failing to do anything based on information he received 7 years ago makes DM no different from his brothers in the Episcopacy.

Maynooth has to be shut down Pat. The Seminary Council and a large part of the seminarian body need to be removed. The Bishops are like rabbits caught in the headlights. The Guards must conduct an investigation as soon as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Fr Derwin and this Deacon from Kerry must be laicised immidiatly. If these allegations are true, then these men are dangerous and must be removed. Have the Irish Bishops learned anything from the recent scandals. All the staff in maynooth need to be removed and good and holy men need to be placed there. The Irish laity have had enough and we do not want priests who place themselves on grinder any where near us or our children. Something has to be done about this priest and Deacon. They make me sick.

    ReplyDelete
  27. On a spiritual level, the formators in Maynooth are making their seminarians "twice as fit for hell as they are". The Bishops don't seem to realize their terrifying responsibility before God, as He will be asking them to give an account of every faithful soul in their Diocese at their particular judgement.

On a temporal level, it is essential that Maynooth be closed immediately before it destroys anymore young men. Many Bishops - including Diarmuid Martin - need to strongly consider their positions.

    5. Confused and immature formation staff in Maynooth?? Immature still at 40, 50, 60?? I have a question - Are the formation team/s subject to any external assessment or oversight themselves? Probably not, but they SHOULD be. They are so involved in the seminarians' end of year assessments - reports, and yet I'll bet no one assesses their own ability, discernment, or indeed integrity to assess!! And judging by some of the seminarians, deacons, priests, ... who are now under scrutiny [ people whom the formation team/s and the relevant bishops deemed suitable for the Deaconite and for Priesthood, ... in recent years ] the judgement of the formation team/s and the Bishops does need to be seriously or even ROBUSTLY questioned, and investigated. ROBUSTLY seems to be a favourite word of church authorities. I recall that when responding to questions about the allegations, [May 2016 ] Maynooth College President Msgr Hugh Connolly is reported to have '...insisted that robust procedures for addressing such claims are in place.' Maybe they are in place, but one would have to ask IF they were actually followed. Maybe the procedures weren't THAT robust after all. I'd be very, very doubtful that they were followed robustly!

  30. The gay subculture has been around over 30 years with trainee students going through the seminary to the final end of being ordained priests. Sexual activities is not the only occurence among many gay men in the seminary community but you have the communal of priests practising at the alter daily around the country that engage in sexual activities with other men. Many priests that I know of have formed discreet relationships with other men. I myself am currently in a relationship down the coutry with a priest for the past 23 years. Grindr has specifically being the target of this innocuous scandal. There are may priests on other sites to whom I have met of gaydar, caffmos, reacon, gaymaturedating, gaire etc. There are far more than what is initally thought of. I have also engaged of meeting practicing priests in the George who have commented that they are a man of the cloth to whom I have encounter wonderful sexual experience. What do you expect of these trainee / practice priests. They are of the nature of human being like everyone else. They have sexual needs. If the boundary restricts them to marriage, well then you can't have your loaf and eat it to expect that these priest cannot release their sexual desire when needed.
