CHURCH ALLEGATIONS - NEW DEVELOPMENTS

CHURCH ALLEGATIONS - NEW DEVELOPMENTS

THERE HAVE BEEN FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS TODAY IN THE ALLEGATIONS THAT HAVE EMERGED SINCE MAY OF 2016 ABOUT SERIOUS MISCONDUCT AT HIGH LEVELS IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN IRELAND.

Today I am in possession of very detailed allegations made by a former seminarian of St Patrick's Seminary, Maynooth (otherwise known as "Gaynooth").

In fairness and in justice I have asked the Catholic Church's Media Officer - Mr Martin Long for a comment on these matters.

Martin Long - Church Media Officer

He asked me to put my questions to him in writing. I obliged by putting some initial questions to him by email.

He has promised to get back to me with a comment.

Obviously he will have to go and make enquiries from those who were allegedly involved in these matters before he can comment.

He will also have to consult the authorities in the Hierarchy and in Maynooth about these matters.

Matters as serious as this require that both sides of the story be told - that is if there are two sides.

The matter is now far too serious to be left in the shadows any longer as the welfare of many individuals, past, present and future, is at stake,

I will of course not allow the Church authorities to get away with NOT answering these questions.

If they are not answered in a reasonable time then I think that they forfeit their right to have their say.

They might be able to string things out WITHIN the Church for years.

However I am an independent bishop and blogger and I will NOT be a victim of their smoke screens or pregnant silences!

  1. Good man Pat. The days of this crowd fobbing people off is well over. Go for them. Get this sorted. As you rightly say decent young men have been damaged here and the future priests of this country might well be put off or damaged in days to come. Somehow or other I think I smell one big cart load of smelly stuff coming down the hill
    Deo gratias.

    1. Thank you. You would be very saddened to hear the stories of the young men involved. All they wanted was to give themselves to God and the Church - for life - and they were treated like throw away dolls :-(

  2. Thank God Pat that you have the courage and gumption to take on this mafia in Maynooth. And a mafia is surely what they are! When I think of all the poor old women and men around the country donating their hard earned cents to keep these desperadoes in power, it makes my blood boil and my stomach sick. Not to mention all the novenas offered up for more vocations in Ireland. You may as well be sending vocations to the Battle of the Somme!

Be assured of my prayers Pat.

    Horrified Christian.

    1. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

To the mafia you mention I would address the words of the Good Thief:

"Have you no fear of God at all"?

    2. Pat, they don't fear God at all because they don't believe in Him!

They are careerist clerics. The priesthood is a career and their aim is to climb to the top and stay there.

There is a special place reserved for them, in the darkest and deepest recesses, of Nether-Hell.

And, indeed, the Somme analogy is most fitting.

  3. If Charlie Brown and Dermot Martin were told about these matters and did nothing, their positions are untenable. Anyone else in the hierarchy, who was told and who didn't act, they should all be exposed as unfit for office and removed by the Pope.

Why would God send vocations to such a wicked and corrupt Church? Is it any wonder no one is coming forward and that those who do are suspect?

Seminarians are vulnerable young adults in so far as they enter a system where they are very much 'at the mercy' of the formators and the Seminary faculty.

In many ways, they are like young cadets in the army and we are well aware that such young recruits, in armies, can suffer/have suffered, at the hands of sexual predators who are in authority over them.

This is utterly despicable. I hope, Pat, that you are instrumental in cleaning the lot of them out from the very rotten core.

Seminaries should be safe and healthy places of prayer, study and proper recreational interests, where young men can rightly discern if God is calling them to give their lives to Him as priests.

Something truly evil has put down deep roots, over a long period of time, in St Patrick's College, Maynooth. It is time for the axe of demolition and for the fire of purification.

Justice must be done for these young men. Those who preyed upon them should be dismissed from the clerical state by the Pope. Those who covered up, turned a blind eye, or a deaf ear, no matter how high up they are, should be removed from office by the Pope.

What exactly happened during the Apostolic Visitation imposed by Benedict XVI in 2010? The seminaries were to be scrutinised by Cardinal Dolan.

Obviously, Dolan didn't delve too deep. Conceited buffoon that he is, it was probably easy enough to pull the wool over his eyes with flattery and unction.

    1. Archbishop Martin has known about this situation since 2009 - 7 years !!!

Archbishop Brown has known about it since 2012 - 4 years !!!

      Nothing has been done.

  4. Hopefully you can achieve Pat what an "Apostolic Visitation" could not, i.e., the full and definitive cleansing of SPM. You will need stamina and cojones the size of a stallion to deal with these unscrupulous characters. They are well entrenched and established.

    Best of luck to you.

  5. I heard they were all wearing their best Roman collars when Dolan and crew were in town. What a laugh!! I'd say Dolan had a few too many beers the nights before he conducted his "investigations".

All I can say is go for the jugular Pat!

  6. With every fibre of my being, I sincerely hope that your crusade will expunge these wicked, lying and power-lusting individuals - and their protectors/enablers - from the seminary for once and for all.

  7. I pray that God will give these young men the courage they will need to speak the truth about what happened to them boldly and without fear. May God deliver His Church from wicked men whose master is the Devil.

  8. Am surprised at DM, I thought he would look into this. Oh well maybe he is just another one who loves to trot out the soundbites the media love.

  9. Pat, these wicked men need to be removed from maynooth. I know a few seminarians and they tell me that there is not one priest left up in that place who would inspire a young man to become a holy priest.Fr Marsden was the only man up there who had a true understanding of the priesthood and sacred liturgy. Now that he has gone they are left with a group of men who are careerists more than anything else.

They are not even allowed a proper cross in that awful St Mary's oratory and have to put up with a type of cross that is insulting to our Lord. Clear out the whole of maynooth and let's put in there holy and prayerful men that will inspire seminarians to become holy priests.

    1. I agree completely with you. Maynooth needs to be razed to ground and then rebuilt from scratch with holy men in charge. I have been hearing non stop stories for years about the kip.

  10. I remember Diarmuid Martin waffling on about "dark forces" at work in the Irish Church a few years ago. It seems he has received first-hand accounts of such forces but didn't deem them dark enough, maybe?!! If he is not bothered to take allegations from seminarians seriously, he should be removed from his Archbishopric immediately.

I certainly hope Pat that you can be the man to sort this disaster out.

  12. It is absolutely incredible that these grave concerns were not addressed by Martin and Brown.

Furthermore, the grapevine is buzzing with the story that the alleged predator was moved from another seminary because there were "problems".

At least now they will be forced to act. Martin and Brown should come under scrutiny and asked to consider their positions.

In my view, Dermot Martin is a crass and cynical opportunist, who pretended to have an empathy of which he is incapable, with clerical abuse victims. Brown is another useless, suave, stuffed clerical shirt, with cuff links and zero substance.

Maybe now, there will be scrutiny of the clerical careerists who inhabit and have inhabited "Gaynooth" since the 1990's to date.

Some of them seem "dead certs" for bishoprics in the future. They need to be stopped in their tracks and cleared out, for they all buddies and fellow travellers of the individual currently being discussed.

It's not just one individual. There's a nest of them emanating from Gaynooth into some key dioceses. Time for pest control exterminators!

  13. G'day guys! Looks like the s-h-1-t storm, that has been growing in force and magnitude for years, is about to hit Erin. Batten down the hatches and be prepared for a lot of debris. And trust in God. It is all His work. Aussie priest.

  14. Is it any surprise that Martin could not be arsed to act when you consider that he doesn't give two hoots about his diocese or priests. Martin De Tours is his nickname among Dublin clergy. Why would you bother taking time out of your busy schedule to investigate Maynooth when the plane awaits for the UN in New York?!

  15. Couldn't the seminarians have gone and informed the Prior of the College and sought his protection??? It's all very bizarre.

    1. It seems that the President of Maynooth does not exactly instil much confidence in seminarians who wish to air their grievances and concerns about other members of staff.

  16. Some priests, who know the lie of the land, have worked out who the predator is. They also know his mates - those using each other - in their crazed desire for purple buttons to help cover their vile, rancid, debauched and corrupt corpses. Time now for the fuller's alkali to burn its way through Maynooth and the Irish Church.

    1. You sound gleeful.

Remember it is the Body of Christ. And Christ weeps at the pain inflicted upon it.

    2. Not in the least "gleeful" but absolutely SICK AND TIRED of the drip, drip, drip of scandal that goes on and on. It is debilitating for clergy at the coal face, far removed from these wicked, perfumed, coiffed and manicured mannequins out of Gamarelli's window. GET RID OF THEM! They are lacerating the Body of Christ over and over again!

    3. You often sound worse than "gleeful" on this blog, Magna Carta. I think the poster sounds furious. Christ may weep indeed but He will punish with eternal fire those inflicting this pain on His Body.

    4. 00:43, you sound vengeful, as if you want damnation for certain others. That is not Christ's spirit. However sinful humanity is, he comes to save, not to condemn.

  17. Indeed He does weep, Magna Carta. But the greatest pain inflicted upon the church is by the very people who are now, hopefully, going to be exposed for all to see.
They obviously have forgotten the incident where Christ drove the bad men from the Temple. Now it is the turn of the Irish church to experience more pain as the purge to purify begins.

  18. I am a committed Catholic who loves the Church of Christ. However, I am absolutely incandescent with rage having read this blog; and I believe every word as I have heard horrifying stories for years about Maynooth from many seminarians.

I asked these poor young men why they didn't report these scandals to their respective Bishops. The answers I received were generally along the lines of: "My Bishop would not support me"; "The Bishops are too gullible and believe everything they are told from the Seminary Council"; "My Bishop just said to keep my head down, say my prayers and everything will pass"; "My Bishop would not meet me"; etc.

I have heard of true accounts where some Bishops have sent their seminarians, who encountered scandal in Maynooth, to other seminaries. But the question must be asked: Why will they not use their episcopal power - properly - and finally implement a forensic investigation and audit of St Patrick's Seminary?

It appears that Maynooth has further deteriorated since the Apostolic Visitation of 2010 headed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who led a team of American Bishops tasked with appraising every facet of formation in Maynooth. Based on reports raging in the Catholic media and Internet for nearly two months now, the Apostolic Visitation has proven an abject failure.

Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Brown and Archbishop Martin must be called to give an account for their collective remissness and breach of duty.

The vast majority of Irish Bishops will say whatever is expedient to keep Rome and the media at bay. The minority of Bishops are good and holy men who unfortunately lack the fortitude and valour needed to purify the Irish Seminary System. Sadly, bravery and goodness are two virtues rarely found together in an Irish Bishop.

God has used the Irish Media before to shine a light on the depravity in His Church in Ireland. It seems that he is about to use them again "to shout from the rooftops" what has remained hidden for far too long.

I will be praying hard for these brave and honest young men. I will also be praying hard for you Bishop Pat; and while I do not always agree with your views, I do applaud and admire your integrity and courage.

May God bless you and give you light and wisdom.

  19. I, and many other faithful Catholics, are absolutely sick of all the above. I do pity the good priests out there who are viewed with suspicion on a daily basis because of the actions of some of their sick confreres and negligence of their craven bishops, who are meant to exhibit great care and solicitude for their seminarians and priests.

It makes perfect sense that if you want good, holy and balanced priests you would focus on their formation process - and place in charge impeccable priests who are irreproachable and universally recognised for their holiness and wisdom.

Please God deliver us from this cabal holed up in Maynooth who are destroying young men's faith - along with their emotional, psychological and physical well being.

  20. Former Seminarian.

I can attest with my hand on my heart that all that is on this blog concerning this particular perverted priest is true. I was a colleague of the seminarian who filed the official complaint against this cleric.

As a result of my friendship with this seminarian, I was expelled from Maynooth. Naturally, the hierarchy in Maynooth did not explicitly state that the above was the real reason for my expulsion. They fabricated stories about me in my end of year report to my bishop.

People have no idea how twisted and perverse these men are who control the levers of power in St Pat's.

Please help me by emailing me all you know to. bishoppatbuckley@hotmail.com.

You will see that I will protect the identity of your colleague and I promise you the same.

  21. This is truly appalling. As I prepare to celebrate Sunday Mass, once again, my heart is on the ground with yet another wave of sordid scandal about to come crashing in.

Perverts given total power over young and vulnerable men and quislings on the bishop's bench who, like the priest and levite in the Gospel of today's Mass, look the other way!

It is time to SMASH this evil cabal and everyone associated with it. I mean really SMASH them!! Get them out of the seminary and out of the priesthood.

My heart shudders this last number of years when I hear of young men entering the seminary. Nothing has been learned, it is clear, from the vile antics of James Donaghy and his predations, in "The Wing" and elsewhere, against vulnerable young students. Miceal Ledwith, it would appear, was just the tip of the iceberg in Maynooth.

Definitely, call to account Brown, Martin and Dolan for their dereliction of duty. There is a case here for direct intervention by the Holy Father. Maybe Dolan should hand back his red hat, Brown and Martin go off to a remote monastery??

Seriously, keep the Spotlight trained on them, Pat. I hope and pray you will find people in the mass media who will help you rid us of these lowlife scumbags once and for all.

    A priest (heart-sick).

  22. The Irish Church has been/and is/ badly served by her leaders who are/were 'good and holy men.'For the most part their 'goodness and holiness' was/is a veneer that distanced them from their brothers and sisters in the faith.(No smell of the sheep there!)

Like the scholar of the law in today's Gospel, the leaders know all about goodness and spirituality... but fail to realize that what is required is "doing" good. ACTION.(By their fruits shall they be known.)

Silence and inaction in the face of intimidation/injustice/abuse. etc., are not Christian virtues. They are the refuge of the cowardly and those who treasure 'cute whoreism' more than truth and faith filled service.

Also, this situation has victims aplenty. The seminarians. . . first and foremost; their families; those who are unable to express/restrain/integrate/ their sexuality in an appropriate/mature/loving/ way but allow themselves to fall victim to base lust and sexual stalking; those faith leaders who have allowed themselves to fall victim to their base lust and attachment to naked power;and the faithful people and priests of the Irish Church.

How much more must we weep? And for for how long more?

Recently Pope Francis issued directives for the removal from office of Church leaders who fail to respond or are not pro-active in helping those who are abandoned and victimized by priests and lay ministers but instead are ignored/victimized again by the "good and holy men."

Pray that he has the courage to now 'go and do it'!Pray that he will be strengthened to act!

(Not always in agreement with the sentiments expressed here but the victimization of good men . . can only stir me to compassion...(and righteous anger) as Jesus was moved to compassion by the victims he encountered on the way.
