Unholy row as Martin removes priests from Maynooth seminary
Martin to move student priests to train in Rome

The country's largest Catholic diocese has confirmed it will not be sending any of its trainee priests to study at the national seminary in Maynooth this autumn.

Amid reports of a crisis at the Co Kildare seminary, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has now opted to send his student priests to the Irish College in Rome.

The seminary is headed up by Dubliner Monsignor Ciaran O'Carroll, who has worked closely with Dr Martin in the past.
Three trainee priests from the archdiocese of Dublin will move to the Rome this autumn to further their studies and training.

DUBLIN DEACON MICHAEL BYRNE - NICKNAMED "GEORGEOUS" WITH BISHOP NULTY OF KILDARE

The seminarians are all at various stages in their training.
There are roughly 60 resident seminarians studying at Maynooth.

Archbishop Martin is a trustee of Maynooth along with the three other catholic archbishops in the Irish Church and a number of bishops.
"I have my own reasons for doing this," the Archbishop said.

His decision comes amid growing unease over accusations of inappropriate behaviour among some of the seminarians in Maynooth after it was claimed that some of them have, until recently, been using the gay dating app Grindr.

Maynooth has insisted that robust procedures are in place to handle such complaints against seminarians.

Playing down any link between his decision and the current crisis engulfing Maynooth, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin added that he had made his decision before allegations about inappropriate behaviour at the Co Kildare seminary had arisen.
According to the current issue of the international Catholic journal, 'The Tablet', Dr Martin said he had made the decision "some months ago" and informed the other bishops of his intention at the summer general meeting of the Irish hierarchy in June.

A second bishop is also reported to have decided to send his seminarians to Rome this autumn.
However, the Catholic Communications Office in Maynooth was unable to confirm this to the Irish Independent as the bishop is attending World Youth Day in Poland and was unavailable for comment.

The suggestion that a gay subculture exists in Maynooth first emerged in May of this year after an anonymous letter suggested seminarians and staff members at Maynooth had been using the gay dating app Grindr.
Msgr Hugh Connolly told 'The Irish Catholic' the church intended to "thoroughly deal" with any concerns regarding such behaviour.

CONNOLLY

A spokeswoman for the archdiocese of Dublin confirmed that three Dublin seminarians are Rome-bound this autumn.
Acknowledging that the number of seminarians for Dublin is down, the Archbishop stated: "What is more important for me is the quality of the men who come forward and the training that they receive."
Meanwhile, a new group called VAMA - Voices Against Maynooth Abuse - has been formed by controversial cleric, Bishop Pat Buckley, who is in a long-term gay civil partnership.

VAMA has invited current and past seminarians to reveal any 'unorthodox' behaviour they have experienced or witnessed in Maynooth.

DUBLIN RADIO 98 FM IS ALSO CARRYING THE STORY TODAY WITH THE FOLLOWING PICTURE OF DIARMUID MARTIN ON ITS WEBSITE,

PAT SAYS:

I can confirm that the second Irish bishop withdrawing his students from Maynooth is Bishop Phonsie Cullinan - the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore/

BISHOP CULLINAN

One of the Dublin seminarians being withdrawn from Maynooth by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin is former boxer, Deacon Michael Jack Byrne whose nickname in Maynooth is "Georgeous".

SELFIE PICTURE FROM DEACON BYRNE'S BYRNE TWITTER ACCOUNT

Deacon Byrne is an avid twitterer and is obviouly aware of his good looks - as he has the pic below on his Twitter account also:

YES "GEORGEOUS" - WE ALL KNOW THAT.

In a separate development I can also confirm that two Maynooth seminarians were caught having gay sex in one of the seminarians rooms in Maynooth by a third seminarian.

The student who found them was EXPELLED !!!!!

The two seminarians caught having GAY SEX are STILL IN MAYNOOTH STUDYING FOR THE PRIESTHOOD.

EAMON MARTIN HAS STARTED TRAVELLING INCOGNITO

These revelations follow the news that Archbishop Eamon Martin of Armagh has sent his Master of Ceremonies - Father Rory Coyle - who was caught naked on GRINDR to a sex addiction clinic in the USA

I can also confirm, from interviews with current and past seminarians that gay seminarians are having gay sex with priests in DUBLIN ARCHDIOCESE!

Some of these priests are also on GRINDR.

But this is not a DUBLIN PROBLEM.

The GRINDR seminarians and priests come from every diocese in Ireland.

WHY ARE THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS COVERING UP FOR THEM?

ARE SOME OF THE BISHOPS ON GRINDR - OR HAVING GAY SEX WITH SEMINARIANS and PRIESTS - as has happened in several diocese in the USA.

His expulsion was designed to make the problem go away - even though HE had done nothing wrong.

  7. I can guarantee that these revelations will be the end of Maynooth, as no man who is seriously discerning a call to the Priesthood will choose to enter the seminary in Ireland with 'formators' like these. It will soon be unsustainable to keep it open. When will the Bishops replace them with devout staff? Hopefully before it's too late. It's apparent now that all the good ones have all left..

  9. Bishop Pat you must have courage and name and shame these hypocrites. Do not lose heart. Have courage. Its not the gay thing that is the issue, its the duplicity. They need to be outed, be they bishop, priest or seminarian. I have no doubt there are many bishops quaking in their boots now that the Emperor has been seen without his clothes. Good on you.

Martin moves priests out of Maynooth over ‘strange goings-on’

Catholic Archbishop of Dublin decides to send seminary students to Rome instead

    Paddy Agnew

Catholic Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin says the national seminary in Maynooth ‘seems like a quarrelsome place with anonymous letters being sent around’.

The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has decided to cease sending trainee priests from the diocese to St Patrick’s College, Maynooth because of a worrying “atmosphere” at the national seminary.

Asked about the decision of the Dublin archdiocese to send its three seminary students next autumn to the Irish Pontifical College in Rome rather than to Maynooth, Dr Martin told The Irish Times: “I wasn’t happy with Maynooth...

“There seems to an atmosphere of strange goings-on there, it seems like a quarrelsome place with anonymous letters being sent around.
“I don’t think this is a good place for students,” he said.
“However, when I informed the president of Maynooth of my decision, I did add ‘at least for the moment’.”

The Archbishop’s decision to send his students to Rome comes after anonymous letters were circulated in clerical circles about student activities in Maynooth, including an allegation that some seminarians had used a dating app.

Dr Martin made no comment on those reports, saying only that he himself had a “certain bonding” with Rome and that he felt the Irish college there offered “a good grounding” in the Catholic faith.

Before being appointed Archbishop of Dublin in 2004, Dr. Martin had worked in the Holy See in Rome for 25 years, mainly at the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.

Monsignor Ciaran O’Carroll, rector of the Irish college, confirmed that the three Dublin seminarians would be “transferring” to Rome, adding this was very much a normal practise since this was the time of year when bishops nominated students for the college.

Last year, there were 12 Irish seminarians studying at the college along with 38 priests, who resided in the college but who were pursuing post-graduate studies at some of Rome’s pontifical universities.

Most of the men who present themselves for formation at the Irish college tend to be mature students, men with a “late vocation” whilst the priests doing post-graduate studies come from 18 different countries, from Romania to Peru and from Chile to South Korea.

People who know the college well suggest that the international nature of the college inmates means that it offers possibilities and opportunities that might be lacking in Ireland whilst it is also a fair reflection of the “universality” of the Catholic Church.

Maynooth currently has around 60 seminarians in residence.

    4. Just to be clear, Valladolid only offers a propaeduetic year to seminary. It offers a very well-rooted formation in spirituality for a year, to lay the foundations for the years in which philosophical or theological studies demand more time. It is commonly used by English and Welsh dioceses and by some Irish and Scottish dioceses as well.

There is nothing said thus far to cast any aspersions on Deacon Byrne, and if +Martin wants to ensure his final year of priestly formation is solid, he obviously thinks that he is a candidate of good integrity.

(we probably don't need to repeat the 'gorgeous' title too - it's not really relevant. Thanks)

  13. I think we must take issue with Monsignor O'Carroll's statement that:

Monsignor Ciaran O’Carroll, rector of the Irish college, confirmed that the three Dublin seminarians would be “transferring” to Rome, adding this was very much a normal practise since this was the time of year when bishops nominated students for the college.

Deacon Michael Jack "Georgeous" Byrne is a deacon and has one year left to go of priestly studies.

It is unheard of for a final year seminarian to be transferred at the 11th hour to a new seminary.

There is more to it than this.

Plus - this will be Deacon Byrne's THIRD seminary.

He started in Valladolid Seminary in Spain and then left there and went to Maynooth !

There has been much discussion of Deacon Byrne's transfer from Spain to Maynooth - especially among seminarians in Allen Hall - the seminary for the Archdiocese of Westminster, London, some of whom were also in Valladolid.

Just as there is speculation about Deacon Sean Jones of Kerry leaving the religious order, the Pallotine Fathers and moving to Maynooth.

  15. Valladolid is an english pre-seminary, prospective seminarians are only sent for one year to do what is called 'propaedeutic' year and then students go back to their home diocese. Many Irish seminarians from many dioceses in Ireland have been sent there and then to either Maynooth or Rome. What is strange about that?

The Maynooth crew and any compromised, enabling bishops, undoubtedly know "the end is nigh". I'm sure the lavatories in their residences are working overtime!!

What a hideous, vile and diabolical mockery all of this carrying on makes, of priestly formation, seminary training and the priesthood itself!!

I have no doubt, Pat, that you have found all of this immensely difficult. However, you are doing good seminarians, decent priests and faithful lay Catholics a tremendous service.

I also have no doubt that the waves of pure hatred and incandescent malevolence, emanating from these ghastly creatures, towards you, is so strong that you can physically feel it - like a malign force-field.

A summary of Ken Eisold's study in Psychology Today is nicely appropriate at this point:-
    "THE WHISTLEBLOWER'S FATE";-
'The essential reason for the opprobrium visited on the whistleblower is that co-workers do not want to know what the whistleblower reveals, for to acknowledge the exposed truth jeapordises their own power and position, and undermines their own comfort and sense of security.
To acknowledge the organisational wrongdoing poses a dilemma of addressing theose failures exposed which endanger their own careers. So the all too familiar 'cop-out' is to turn against the whistleblower and blame him for putting others 'at risk', and in particular, to question and criticise his motivation."
    And there you have it!
So take courage Pat. You have the support of all the right thinking people.
