MAYNOOTH - SEMINARIES - PRIESTS - DEACONS AND LAY STAFF

We have been talking about seminarians having gay sex with other seminarian in Maynooth and elsewhere.

We have been talking about seminarians having gay sex with priests and with lay men.

We have been talking about priests having gay sex with other priests.

We have been talking about bishops having sex with priests and seminarians.

NOW WE HAVE A NEW TWIST to the seminaries stories -

SEMINARIANS AND PRIESTS ARE HAVING GAY SEX WITH SEMINARY LAY STAFF !!!

Last night I received the following message from an English priest:

HELLO BISHOP PAT,

I HAD SEX WITH A CURRENT STAFF MEMBER OF  XXXXX XXXX SEMINARY - XXXX XXXXXXX.

HE ALSO HAD SEX WITH OTHER PRIESTS AND SEMINARIANS!

HE IS STILL A CURRENT STAFF MEMBER OF THE SEMINARY

WHEN I WAS A DEACON HE GAVE ME A SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE

THERE ARE MORE REVELATIONS.

I HATE THE HYPOCRISY.

DEACON BYRNE, DUBLIN AND THE PRO CATHEDRAL::

A Dublin Pro Cathedral Parishioner writes:

"WE HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE PRO CATHEDRAL FOR 16 YEARS AND WE HAVE BEEN PUZZLED AND SURPRISED AT THE ATTENTION GIVEN TO THE SEMINARIAN / DEACON MICHAEL BYRNE.

THE CANON REGULARLY PRAISED HIM AND ASKED BLESSING FOR HIM AND ASKED US TO PRAY FOR HIM REGULARLY.  IT SEEMED A BIT OVER THE TOP.

MICHAEL BYRNE WAS REGULARLY MENTIONED IN THE NEWSLETTER.

THEN ONE SUNDAY A FEW MONTHS AGO THE MASS WAS TO CELEBRATE MICHAEL BYRNE'S DIACONATE.

I ASKED ONE OF THE STAFF DOES THIS HAPPEN FOR ALL DEACONS AND HE SAID: "NO, ONLY FOR SPECIAL FRIENDS OF THE CANON".

THEN THEY ALL WENT IN FOR A DINNER. WE WERE NOT INVITED.

I WAS AT MASS IN THE PRO CATHEDRAL ON MONDAY AND THE CANON WAS ENCOURAGING US TO GIVE MONEY FOR THE LOURDES PILGRIMAGE.

AFTER READING THIS BLOG I DO NOT FEEL GOOD AT GIVING MONEY THERE.

MAYBE I COULD ASK FOR AS HOLIDAY FOR MY CHILDREN OR A CAR OR SOME FANCY CLOTHES.

I COULD ASK IF MY SISTER COULD STAY OVER IN THE PRO CATHEDRAL PRESBYTERY LIKE MR BYRNE - BECAUSE SHE CANNOT FIND A FLAT IN DUBLIN.

MICHAEL PRO CATHEDRAL BYRNE

A SOURCE IN THE ARCHDIOCESE EMAILED ME:

"I HOPE NOAH'S ARK DID NOT HAVE THE LEAKS THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBLIN OFFICES.

DEACON BYRNE IS NOT THAT DISCREET NOR ARE SOME OF HIS MATES ONE OF WHOM IS LINKED TO SOMEONE IN THE ARCHDIOCESAN HUMAN RESOURCES DEPT AND SPILLED THE BEANS ON BARCELONA, HOLIDAYS, PYJAMA PARTIES, CHAMPAGNE AND GIN AND TONIC.

IT IS CONFIRMED YESTERDAY THAT DEACON BYRNE HAS A MEETING WITH DIARMUID MARTIN NEXT WEEK.

THE ARCHBISHOP IS ON SPEED DIAL WITH HIS PRESS SECRETARY.

THE DEACON HAS BEEN TOLD NOT TO BE IN THE VICINITY OF THE PRO CATHEDRAL".

THE MAYNOOTH FIRST YEARS INITIATION - SUNDAY 21 ST AUGUST 2016

Monsignor Connolly the President of Maynooth has announced a few changes to the Para Liturgical Ceremony he conducts with first year seminarians.

He will gather the First Years in St Mary's Oratory on Sunday night - and they will be physically searched by staff - in case any of them are carrying secret recording equipment or mobiles and cameras.

He has also decided to end the use of the big old register and will instead give each seminarian a leather bound copy of the Gay Kama Sutra - because in the past seminarians have had to be expelled for adopting conservative positions.

This special edition of the Gay Kama Sutra has a foreword by Cardinal Keith O'Brien of Scotland and a Bibliography by Father Rory Coyle.

This edition of the book has been sponsored in whole by the Grindr App in honour of all the money the company has made in the last few years in the Maynooth area. Only San Francisco did better.

Monsignor Connolly will also bless and unveil a statue to Blessed Oscar Wilde at the back of St Mary's Oratory.

I'm telling you Boys and Girls - things are definitely looking up in Maynooth.

  1. I am truly shocked by what I have been reading on this Blog. I am glad that none of my sons ever wanted to be a priest. What mother or father would want to send their son into an institution where they would get an std? Margaret. Killarney. Kerry.

    2. Margaret, you have to remember that there are still many good priests, seminarians and seminary staff who are faithful Christian ministers and doing their best. Being called as a priest is still a wonderful thing. There are just some others who will always want to subvert the will of God and abuse the system.

I presume that the 'English priest' who sent that in recognised that he is every bit as much a hypocrite. If he claims to hate hypocrisy, he will surely be resigning soon himself.

    6. +DM needs to sort this carry on out pronto. It is an open and utter DISGRACE!

To ordain any man so flagrantly flouting the Church's expectations and demands of its ministers, would be a grave sin.

It would be to collude in evil and scandal. It will further injure the Church.

Also, the "spellbound" sugar daddies, enablers and partners in sin of these boyos need to be dealt with. Clear them all out. We would be better served by fewer priests than by these excuses for priests.

This whole business is utterly appalling. It is giving the gravest scandal to the laity. It is further demoralising priests who are doing their best in increasingly atrocious conditions.

FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE SORT IT OUT!

  2. Today is the Feast of St John Eudes, a French reforming priest. In his days, the French clergy where rotten through and through. He established seminaries for the training of faithful priests and he cleansed the Church of corrupt and corrupting clerics.

Many clergy today are ROTTEN. They too are corrupt and corrupting. They are FILTHY. Dirty old men eyeing up our young sons. Nancy boy seminarians, too lazy and stupid to get a real job, taking up roost in seminaries and feathering their nasty little nests - on the pig's back for life - fluttering their eyelashes and wiggling their backsides at the dirty old men - who have infiltrated the priesthood.

St John Eudes, pray for us for God to send a cleansing fire to eradicate these parasites and lechers. God strengthen the good and faithful priests and multiply true vocations. Lord, give us shepherds after your own heart.

  3. A priest now deceased told my mother that the road to Priesthood was long and lonely. I thought he was daft at the time. Fr did like his beer. Later I understood why. Looking back the road to Priesthood was not lonely but contradictory. The lifestyle goes against. the human nature God created. Living the lie has to have negative repercussions as we have seen

  8. Pat, I note with interest your comment at 11.20 regarding the priest who is as you say "in a very different place now". I wonder if as a deacon, details of his sexual liaison with the staff member had been publicly broadcast would he still be in that place?

His story reminds me, and hopefully others, that change of life is possible, but that this requires a degree of compassion, and sometimes discretion. Our Christian way calls us to encourage others and indeed to challenge them when their lives are at variance with the Gospel, but to do so with mercy and compassion and above all charity (something that has been lacking in many of the comments posted on this blog of late.)

It is surely possible to bring forward a reasoned debate about Maynooth, and priestly formation without this naming and shaming. It is enough in my eyes to bring the individuals to the attention of the proper authority and leave them to deal with it. Should those authorities fail in that responsibility then they should be challenged, but again without recourse to publicly detailing the individual cases involved.

We all want justice, but following the pattern of our Lord, it must be tempered with mercy. As you said yourself in a comment a few days ago "When I meet him I will be asking for forgiveness and not justice."

    1. The priest in question is tired of all the hypocrisy in the Church and wants to speak out about what he knows about it.

He does not see himself as an innocent.

There is a huge difference between a priest, a deacon or a seminarian having a lapse, regretting it and picking himself up again.

There are priests in the Church today who always were, always are and always will be Jack the Lads with both men and women.

In fact some of them use priesthood as a bait!

      The "proper authorities" ?

Sadly some of these are also Jack the Lads who climbed up the ladder !

    2. I agree with anon at 16:48 about naming and shaming.

A change of life is, of course, possible by the Grace of God. However, there must be openness to God's Grace, genuine sorrow for sin and true repentance. The sinner must be CONVERTED.

Repentance must be sincere. "Let your hearts be broken, not your garments torn", cried the Prophet Joel.

Jesus told sinners - 'go and SIN NO MORE'. He warned the man whom He had healed at the pool of Bethesda: "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing WORSE may happen to you". (John 5:1-15)

  12. I very much regret to say that I totally agree with anon @ 18:31. Pat I have been a great supporter of all you have been trying to do in your battle against the instructional institutional church, but in recent months your blog has plumbed new depths in "outing" gay men, and in recent posts, now, alcoholic priests. For me what you wrote about the priest with drink problems in England was the final straw. He, like any other person struggling with problems, be they gay or straight, have a right to work these out in privacy and quietness. It seems that everyone is now fair game in your unending battle to destroy the Church. Individual human beings appear to be collateral damage. I shall not be visiting the blog again. Just one final thought: Like all of us Pat one day you will stand before God and have to give an account of all your actions. Perhaps in good conscience you will say you would not do anything differently had you your time again...I'm not sure I would be able to say that was I in your position. Perhaps its time to quit while you are ahead, and use the time thats left to support and build up and tenderly care for the suffering and the weak, not hammer, punish and destroy them.

    2. Bishop Pat, I am a current seminarian in Maynooth. I have found your blog very painful reading over the last few weeks. But I know what is going on inside Maynooth. I have found my time in Maynooth very difficult. So many in there are playing games, staff and students. I am gay but celibate and want, with God's help, to be a good celibate priest. Some of my fellow seminarians are sexually active with men and women and are also heavy drinkers. One or two are even on cannibis. I do not know if I will make it. But you are the only one campaigning for change. I support you. Please keep going. If somebody does not keep at it everything will spiral downwards. Pray for me. I will pray for you. I want to be a priest but dread returning to Maynooth. But I am afraid to ask my bishop for a change. It seems the more sincere you are the less you are thought of. Jesus mercy, Mary help.

  14. The English priest with alcohol problems was the one whose correspondence you published yesterday with Cardinal Nichols. I agree with Anon at 20.58 - that really was a bad, bad show on your part, Pat. The poor man is clearly very troubled, and to be honest I thought it seemed like the diocese had been trying hard on his behalf. What business was any of that to be made public?? Who did it serve?

I also think you are hypocritical in how you judge others to be incapable of change - saying that the English deacon who acquired an STD is now changed, but not giving the same chance to so many others. You have robbed them of the opportunity to change by making the allegations public. And you are not capable of stating outright that all of those named are incapable of change, so I do not accept that as your defence.

I am sorry to read the comments of the current seminarian at 21.42. In the ideal situation, he would be feeling none of those reservations about seminary, and there would be much better internal systems to address it. This is surely the issue, rather than trawling the sins of clergy near and far.

    1. No one is incapable of change and the fact that they are "named" can in fact push them towards change as much as the other way.And their change will be greeted with greater celebration.

As AA has said the first step towards change is a full acknowledgement of the existence of the problem.

Most of us do not change until challenged.

As far as the English priest is concerned - mentioning him was just launching a boat.

Its not just about an alcohol promlem.

When the Church does not provide a suitable "laundry" room the dirty washing must be washed in full view on the river bank.

      Delete
    2. Your answer just makes me angrier, to be honest. That English priest deserved privacy for his problem. His dirty laundry is not yours to publish, nor his life yours to expose.

The Church did provide a means of addressing his issue, but any of us who have encountered alcoholism close to us know that sometimes there is nothing that can address the issue until the alcoholic is ready to receive help.

What about Fr Dallat then? We might presume that he has changed, unless you have evidence to the contrary. Where is your celebration? What chance are you giving him?

      Delete
    3. You do not know YET what the priest in question did.

His problem is not alcoholism. I have personal experience of alcoholism in my family. I do know what it does.

Ciaran Dallat has not and will not change.

I will prove that to you in the not so distant future.

    4. How do you square saying 'no one is incapable of change' (22.20) with 'Ciaran Dallat has not and will not change' (22.38). A bit of a logical contradiction I think.

  15. Pat, you keep making side comments about bishops being 'Jack the Lads' or having sex with priests and seminarians.

Is this based in fact, or do you just think that they are easy targets and that standards of evidence don't apply where they are concerned?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Evidence gathering on the basis of reports is the first stage in the production of evidence.

The bishops are easy targets !!!

    3. Easy targets or not, what you say should be the truth. Lies don't help anyone, and it is unchristian to throw them around simply because you don't like or agree with the bishops.

It doesn't sound like you do have much to substantiate those claims. For the time being then, I have to presume that they are innocent of this charge until proven guilty - which I doubt you will do.

    4. Why then did he go into the Temple after the priests - carrying a whip?

    5. There is no more "unchristan" body than the the Irish bishops. Where have you been this last 15 years of abuse and abuse cover up?

Sing your song to the two boy victims of Brendan Smyth that Sean Baptist Brady locked in a room and swore to secrecy.

      Delete
    6. You are purposefully evading my original point. If you think them guilty of something then demonstrate it. You could (and have) made a case regarding both the abuse cover up and the swearing of secrecy mentioned. You have not offered evidence that any bishop has had a sexual encounter with a priest or seminarian, but you have claimed it. Is this the truth, a supposition or a lie?

      Delete
    7. I have heard victims of child abuse say that it is better to kill a child than sexually abuse it. Brady and his mates in the Episcopacy are utterly useless; and their hollow words don't make any impression on victims and their families.

No doubt those who felt sympathy for your personal situation and ministry will no longer align themselves to you. you are essentially a mature man who has outed young men who are studying for the priesthood. These young lads have been degraded by rumor and scandal and their so called sins made public for all to judge. Christ would not look favorably on this and neither would any right thinking person. you have forfeited your right to call yourself Christian and you have forgotten the Golden rule Pope Francis has so often talked about 'do unto others....'
