CATHOLIC CHURCH SECRETS

CATHOLIC CHURCH SECRETS

When it comes to IRISH CATHOLIC CHURCH SECRETS we have certainly been on a learning curve on this blog recently.

Anyone who thought that the scandals were finished after the CHILD ABUSE REVELATIONS; THE MAGDALEN LAUNDRY REVELATIONS and the BABIES IN A SEPTIC TANK REVELATIONS is gravely mistaken.

There is A LOT MORE to come and people need to brace themselves for it.

Recently we have learned about:

1. Maynooth seminarians being on Grindr, having gay sex with others and the existence of a GAY CABAL in Maynooth bullying other seminarians.

2. Gay priests in Dublin diocese and elsewhere being actively gay with each other, seminarians and lay people - and treating their boyfriends with designer clothing, gourmet meals and even cars.

3. We have learned about the DUBLIN PRO CATHEDRAL problems and the sacking of the two faithful lady servants affectionately known and laved as GIN AND TONIC.

4. We have learned that DIARMUID MARTIN seems to have "favourites" and will not act against them.

5. We have learned that the Irish Bishops are not prepared to act on Maynooth - either because they cannot, will not, are powerless or are compromised.

6. We have learned that there have been SUICIDES in seminaries as a result of gay bullying.

7. We have learned about the existence in the Irish Catholic Church of a POWERFUL GANG possible being led by Cardinal Sean The Wounded Healer Brady and his favourites in dioceses and seminaries.

8. We have learned that the sum of 300,000 was paid to someone in Canada in which Brady was involved and that this money was taken from an account in ARMAGH DIOCESE.

9. We have learned that a priest - Father Gerard Garvey of Galway Diocese - was sent to an early grave by the actions of someone else.

I'm sure there are many things I am leaving out. In any event I just wanted to give you a flavour of the things that we have been learning - and the bits of the great big jigsaw we have been putting together.

The SECRET WORLD OF THE IRISH CATHOLIC CHURCH is as dark as the HOBS OF HELL.

But the important thing is how many people have SUFFERED because of this darkness - are SUFFERING because of this darkness - and will to continue SUFFERING into the future because of this darkness.

Don't get me wrong. There is good in the Church. There are good people in the Church.

But THE DARKNESS is attacking that goodness and in danger of drowning it.

The only cure for all of this is to SHINE LIGHT INTO THE DARK  PLACES.

That involves, exposure, exposure, exposure.

The Catholic Church is labouring under the three great evils - POWER - SEX - MONEY.

Its like a great big ABSCESS.

The ONLY CURE for an ABSCESS is LANCING.

After LANCING comes applied pressure to squeeze all the PUS out - until bright red blood flows.

Then you can apply a dressing and administer ANTIBIOTICS.

At present the ABSCESS is massive - with a great big angry head.

Let the TREATMENT begin!

IDEALLY WE NEED A NATIONAL CATHOLIC TRUTH COMMISSION with the broadest possible brief.

COLERAINE CELEBRATES

Today the parish of St Malachy's in Belfast has begun to celebrate the departure in 10 days time of its temporary administrator - Father Brendan "Hate The People" Mulhall.

Apparently he is on the move to Turf Lodge, Belfast the week after next?

He obviously has friends in Coleraine but Father Mulhall seems to have had more  skirmishes in the ring than Barry McGuigan had.

He certainly had an unseemly battle with a disabled man who lived in a Church cottage at the end of his driveway.

He had another unseemly row with the highly thought of parish Play School and its staff and parents.

Bishop Noel Treanor received many complaints and in many cases had not got around to replying to the complainants.

I hope for Coleraine's sake the news of his move is true.

But sadly Coleraine's gain will end up being a Holy Trinity loss.

This is but ONE of the messages I've had from Coleraine for my efforts in try and help:

"Just heard today that Brendan Mulhall is being moved in 10 days to Belfast.  Thank you so much for all your help and support hopefully which ever priest we get now will  treat us with more respect and will be willing to work with us. Yes poor Belfast I don't envy them the man has no compassion once again thank you. Keep doing what you are doing supporting people who feel they have no one to turn to. We still haven't had a reply from bishop I rang last week to ask why I had no reply they sent a email to say he had been very busy but would reply to me this week not heard anything yet but he's going so that's such a relief".

ALSO ON THE MOVE:

Martin Kelly PP, Drumbo retires - DRUMBO CELEBRATES.

Michael Sheehan from St Patrick's Belfast to Drumbo.

Eugene of Neill from Killyleagh yo St Patrick's Belfast.

Brendan Smyth (he should change his name by deed poll) to Killyleagh.

Diarmuid Sheehan (White Fathers) to be Adm, Coleraine.

Martin Magill Sacred Heart Parish to Ballyclare.

Darach Mac Giolla Cathain from Ballymurphy to be PP Sacred Heart.

Peter Carlin to help in Sacred Heart.

Paddy McCafferty to be PP Corpus Christi, Ballymurphy.

Don Kettle PERTH !!! to ADM Crossgar.

Conor Mc Grath from Ballymena to CC Drumbo.

James O'Reilly to be CC Antrim.

Brendan O'Kane SMA to be Adm "Pro Tem" Rasharkin.

Gerard Fox to be secretary to Bishop Elect Bartlett.

Eddie Mc Gee "Ad Posteriori" to be Director of School Trustee Services.

NEVER GO WHERE YOU SEE THIS ROAD SIGN

  1. Pat, what is the function of ‘vocation discernment’ in the modern Roman Catholic Church?

Rev Kevin Doran meets a man to discuss vocation. He involves him in a year of more of “discernment” presumably under the guidance the Holy Spirit? He involves him in group and parish activities from which he can get realistic reports over time. He sends him off for detailed psychiatric tests and gets those results. He might get him to serve the Mass of Chrism to that he can be looked over by all and sundry, including the Bishop/Archbishop. He meets him for weekends of prayer and social activities in Dublin and Glendalough. Eventually, he informs the man that he is accepted for ‘priestly formation’ by the diocese and takes it for granted that the man will give up everything – job, income, friends, lifestyle – for the service of the church.

After all of this discernment and scrutiny, our man enters Maynooth and immediately finds that a Formator takes an instant dislike to him and makes his life hell. Within only one or two years in Maynooth he is suddenly kicked out with no reasons being given, and with spurious reasons given to the Bishop and diocese – reasons that are never questioned by anyone.

What then is the function of “vocation discernment” in the Roman Catholic Church when people can be so badly treated and disfigured by unhappy and bitter priests who answer to no-one and when the surrounding Christian community of priests, people, witnesses avert their eyes and say and do nothing? Is the Holy Spirit involved in this horrific treatment of persons at all?

I saw the mention of another recent Maynooth late vocation, P.J. MacManus, on your blog a few days ago. P.J. was a teacher at the pinnacle of his teaching career and felt the call to serve as a priest. He was a wholesome man in every way. Funny, joker, footballer and all round nice guy. You couldn’t dislike him. Not too holy by any means and yet not given to coarse behaviour. He offered himself to the Kildare and Leighlin diocese as a late vocation and gave up his teaching career and income and entered Maynooth.

P.J. was a mature man. He was older than Doctor Felim Donnelly and was probably taken aback that two Formator priests, Des Hillery and Enda Cunningham, got into a standoff with a bunch of young seminarians over - of all things - kneeling at the consecration of the Mass. This turned into a very nasty battle very quickly which for an entire year involved the Seminary Council staff noting who knelt at Mass and who didn’t – had they nothing better to do?

    ReplyDelete
  2. P.J. earned a fractious relationship with, in particular, Enda Cunningham and it never got any better. Enda had a terrier-like appetite for conflict. He managed to find conflict with Doctor Donnelly. He managed to find it with Shane O’Doherty. He found it with Declan Gibson, David Nugent and to a lesser degree with Sean Davidson and also James Devine. He had conflict with senior seminarians too – with Peter McGurnaghan who later became a Deacon (but seems to have left Down and Connor), with Robert Colclough who was later ordained for Dublin. He was a Formator to Fear. He ruled by Fear, never by Love.

    P. J. was suddenly asked to leave Maynooth and never to return. Another guillotine on a man who had given up everything to serve. Suddenly he became the toxic Maynooth Reject Non-Person. In his case, he too went from Bishop to Bishop seeking to continue his discerned vocation. He was much later accepted for continuing priestly studies at the Beda but unfortunately died of stomach cancer after only a year.

Another buried story of improper formation, improper treatment by the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland, another forgotten statistic of Maynooth Determent Camp.

Is the Holy Spirit anywhere in this horrible mistreatment of vocations?

Repentance and Reparation might be preached by the church, but it is never practiced toward those who are mistreated. Fr. McGinnity was sliced and diced by Maynooth and has never been recovered. He too exists in Siberia. The many dismissed seminarians will never see any repentance on the part of the church which allowed their dismissal for spurious reasons. And so the church trundles on over the corpses of those it was meant to love and serve.

As the song says, Where is the love?

  3. I am very sorry to hear that Fr Brendan is moving from Coleraine. I and many others found him to be a priest that we could relate to and who when asked his opinion gave it in a no nonsense manner. Unlike many of the priests who are a part of Down and Donor diocese he did not fawn over parishioners who felt that because they had a few pounds they were entitled to have a priest at their beck and call.. As for the people of the parish who disliked Father Brendan be careful what you wish for, new brooms do sweep clean and maybe the new priest will not be someone that you like either. The parish of St Malachys is not a popular parish within the diocese. This can be seen when the priest goes on holiday as it is very difficult to get someone to cover parish duties. I have lived in St Malachys parish for many decades and have seen many priests come and go. The old proverb that you can't please all the people all the time is very true and whilst I appreciate it is very hard for people to praise their priest, it is not necessary to bad mouth him. The playgroup situation is one which I am aware of and I know that lots of the things which have been attributed to Father Brendan have been ongoing for several years. It is very easy to blame the new person within the parish, but the roots of the playgroup problem are within the management structure. There are very few businesses which do not pay rent, and the playgroup is a business. The childcare sector is very lucrative and I cannot imagine that the playgroup is not successful. The fact that they have not paid rent to their landlord should be a cause of concern to the parish. Father Brendan is very popular in St Malachys parish with the vast majority of parishioners, the minority who have a dislike for him I am sure could worship in any of the other churchs in the area. I am an avid viewer of your blog and never before have felt the need to contribute, but the ruination of a persons good character, by those who proclaim to be followers of Christ is a step too far. I myself know that I have to face My Lord on Judgement Day and account for my behaviour but I hope for a merciful Judgement. I wish to remain anonymous as I have many relations within the parish who do not feel the same as I do, and I am too much of a coward to stand up to them as I need their help in my life at the moment.

    5. Anon at 17.07 and 18.41 just for your information I am an elderly parishioner of some 50 years in St Malachys parish. I require some assistance with this modern method of communicating, but I can assure you that Fr Brendan knows nothing of my comments, nor would I wish him to. I speak as I find but feel distressed by the fact that people would not accept that someone can have a different opinion to them and even if they don't agree with that opinion. I can assure your correspondents that in my many years in St Malachys parish the fact that I have seen many priests come and go does not give me any great pleasure, but I do feel that the ruination of a persons good name by those who feel they can do so is unfair, unjust and dare I say not very charitable. We will all face our Judgement Day and as the tongue is a dangerous weapon maybe we should all be a little more careful of how we speak. I will not make unfair comments about other correspondents but would just finish by saying that I as a mature parishioner appreciate all Fr Brendan's work within St Malachys and assure him of my prayers in his future endeavours.

If I was the only one giving a negative view of mulhall then your point would carry more weight but there are many people as pat can confirm that hold the view of mulhall that he is a nasty peice of work and many people in several parishes have complained to noel trainor about him . We can't all be wrong but like I said your entitled to your opinion as I am to mine

  4. After the abusive treatment in Maynooth my bishop refused to listen to me. He dismissed my comolaints saying that Maynooth are the experts in formation and not to be questioned. After a few years I said I didn't want to have any dealings with him again. He came to my local parish for mass, tried to shake my hand but I told him I would not as long as he was covering up for Maynooth.

I wrote to him, saying never approach me in public again. His office acknowledged it.

A member of my family had an accident and was in intensive care. Who arrived but the same bishop. He was told to leave the ICU by a family member.

Five days later he arrived at the removal of my now deceaced family member, and stood in front of the queue blocking people until I shook his hand. He waited, the service started and the bishop stepped in and took over from the curate to perform the second half of the service.

Even after Maynooth, after everything could this man not accept a request to just leave me and my family alone especially in the context?. I can only imagone how bad he treats people with a promise of obedience. This is just one example of cold hearted vindictiveness and bullying that the bishops are capable of. But this is the example that has made me publish comments in recent days. Enough is enough.

  7. Canon Damo entered the Pro when it was in deep debt. How did he then manage to hire a friend as Manager of his two - yes, TWO - full-time sacristans? Who needs a Manager for a floor staff of TWO who managed themselves for decades?

He then determined - for reasons as yet unknown to anyone - to set about expelling the King sisters (twins) who had been become 'consecrated virgins' in the Pro back in 2003 by Cardinal Desmond Connell. He shoehorned them out and it was not pleasant to watch. They are close friends of Sr. Briege McKenna and Fr. Kevin Scallon who operate healing ministries around the world.

He has now suddenly lost one of the two full-time sacristans - who knows why?

His penchant for having young male seminarians staying over and receiving gifts from him and going on holidays with him has been scrutinised by the clear-sighted Diarmuid and passed as Kosher.

Damian can do no wrong. Maybe he is entirely right. He may feel he is a good man and a better priest. The Pro is his Kingdom and he can hire and fire as he pleases.

Diarmuid was greatly praised for throwing open Dublin diocesan records going back years which cast Desmond Connell in a not too pretty light.

Would reformer Diarmuid follow this act of transparency by publishing in full all of the written and verbal complaints he has received about the running of the Pro Cathedral and let us know how many of them have been acted upon during the past seven years?

Would he allow an independent body to examine all the complaints he has had about Maynooth since 2004 and which of those he had acted upon?

  17. Is it any wonder Pat when I read about all the politics, back stabbing, cliques, wounded healers, child abusers, Gaynooth, Drumbos, Coleraine nurseries, pretty boy priests, financial scandals etc that I'm quite comfortable and happy to just sit on the chair of a morning and an evening and have a wee chat with my God. No priests or formal structures required. I'm quite content that as long as I do on to others as I would wish done to me then I'll have a happy old life. No high blood pressure or nervous breakdowns because of what is happening in the body politic of the Catholic Church. Couldn't give a toss whether the PP is good, bad or indifferent with the parish. My money, what little I have, is put to good use for my benefit and the good causes I wish to support.
I'm as happy as I make up my mind to be and quietly chuckle to myself as I watch the sheep all getting their knickers in a twist because of what the shepherd is, or isn't, doing!

  19. Following the "No Kneeling At The Consecration" debacle in Maynooth some years ago which was overseen for some years by Formator Enda Cunningham and highlighted in many national newspapers, Enda was moved out of Maynooth. It appeared to everyone that he was moved as a result of the most stupid and needless conflict ever in Maynooth.

If his appointment now as Vocations' Director for the Dublin diocese is correct, it appears that Enda can do no wrong and Diarmuid, as ever, will not be pushed by complaints under any and all circumstances.

God help the future of vocations in our Archdiocese.

As with any Business or Organisation, hiring and firing , streamlining expenses and overheads are all part of running a tight ship - and if all or any of this has contributed in bringing the Pro Cathedral back from financial difficulty then all concerned should be complimented for their efforts.
It would seem apparent that The Archbishop has every confidence in the management and presumably will have adequately dealth with any queries or complainants who may have had issues to discuss over the years.
Having attended various Ceremonies, Masses etc at the Pro I believe the organisation, music etc is amazing and a credit to all involved in their preparation.

  25. With regard to the Pro-Cathedral, mmmmmmm. When the American Donors and Funders arrive in Maynooth for the annual visitation, and when the staff don clerics for the first time in 51 weeks, and when the seminarians are ordered to wear full choral dress at all times and walk around like courtiers in Henry VIII's inner sanctum, and when the college chapel is opened for the first time, I'm sure everything looks like a 1950s Ireland with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara just over the hedge there, but looks may be deceiving. As soon as the American Donors and Funders leave, it's back to the same old. Nobody seems to mind the charade every year, least of all the $$$ donors.

The decks of old St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral might be shined, but would you want to visit the crypt below, full of old bones and rotting carcasses where dead men tell no tales?

  26. Barry Byrne, a former artist, entered Maynooth in the class of 1995/1996. He was ostracised by his fellow students who had an unhealthy gossipy interest in why he was absent from the seminary every Sunday afternoon and evening. He left and returned to Maynooth as a clerical student once more 1997 class. Again he was bullied and got no support from formation clerics. He was subject to some dubious healing by Sister Breege McKenna who on a one to one with him acted like a fortune teller by giving random information as if it came from the Holy Spirit. A hypnotic ritual was led by her in St Mary's Chapel in the dark albeit for a few candles and involved chanting a mantra to the Holy Spirit. It is my belief that all that magic disturbed his mind. He could not find a niche in the world and took his own life in 1998. His home address was 20 Malachy Conlon Park, Culloville, Crossmaglen, County Armagh

Volunteer virgins being booted out the door? What for?

One of two sacristans of many years service disappeared suddenly? What for?

[He may be buried in the Crypt.]

A "Manager" hired at €50,000 p.a. when it was neck-high in debt and only had two sacristans on the floor who could easily have been named "Manager" - at least they had decades of experience - what for?

I don't know about Glenstal (the review of their safeguarding was positive; the abbot wrote a book about tarot, which you must interpret as you will) but the Benedictines in England and Scotland are in a mess.

      Calm me, Lord, as you calmed the storm;
still me, Lord, keep me from harm.
Let all the tumult within me cease,
enfold me, Lord, in your peace.

    2. This way is preferable, it allows commentators to engage on a particular point, with out the need to constant reference to times of post, its the only way that makes sense unless Pat reverts to not allowing anonymous posts.

  47. All this stuff about Fr Frankie Lee is very strange Bishop Pat. Are you sure you are not being used as an instrument to destroy him? Perhaps some jealous forces in Galway want to damage him, or more sinister still, perhaps you are being used by their Lordships to punish him for blabbing on your blog about Lavery and Amy? And what has Michael Conway got to do with any of this? I hope this is going somewhere... and that you are not destroying an innocent man?

    1. Indeed Pat, do you know the identity of this persistent blogger with the Galway obsession? Maybe he does have an axe to grind?

    2. I'd say Frankie effectively destroyed himself that night on the beach when he finally got caught!

Do you are saying it was him wrote about Lavery and Amy? How do you know?

      Delete
    3. No I don't know if he wrote about Lavery and Amy, but it's strange that a week after that is mentioned he features on this blog with a full day and page all devoted to him. That's all. Maybe someone was shafting him with that comment about Lavery and Amy.

      Delete
    4. Well, you say that Frankie effectively destroyed himself when he got caught on the beach. Maybe you know more about this than you are saying, but since when has walking on a beach become a crime or a reason to dismiss someone from the priesthood. There's either more to the beach than is being said or it's a red herring. Interesting choice of phrase too 'finally got caught' - bishops don't mind as you don't get caught, don't flaunt it in their faces, be discrete Father

    5. I think everyone knows only too well what was going on at the beach. He wasn't building sandcastles! And the guards nabbed him that time!

  48. Pat, you must have good reason to publish the details on Fr Lee of Galway, but as it is left hanging there now, it amounts to innuendo and character assassination. How is this man going to get a job in the real world - in a school for example - with this gossip hanging over him? Gerry Garvey had a tragic death, but what has this got to do with anything now over 25 years later? Garvey's name has been put out there on the blog with talk of AIDS and questions about who infected him and references to 'poor' Fr Gerry Garvey ... what has any of that got to do with Fr Frank Lee? Is someone suggesting that Lee infected him? Even the question of infection smacks of some of the worst of the 1980s and early 90s hysteria about AIDS and HIV and the sort of distinctions that used to be made between 'innocent' AIDS victims and HIV+ persons and those who were seen as being less deserving of pity and compassion. I thought we had moved beyond that? And who says Garvey was 'poor' and 'innocent'? It might be better to let Garvey rest in peace for you know not what you might discover

Fair enough Pat, but do you have any evidence that Mr Lee is a danger to children or young people? If not, it would only be fair to rephrase or remove your comment about him training as a 'school counsellor'. As that sentence currently stands it is loaded and very damaging. Surely, you have a sense of justice and fairness? Maybe you know more and are not saying, but I would hope that you would act justly and fairly. Otherwise, you are no better than that bunch of losers on the RC bench and I don't think that is so. You've had a rough time, you've suffered at the hands of the RC institution. At least give Lee a fair trial on your blog

    1. Murray was 75 years old. His departure was acrimonious. He won't be back. All these "Adms" though are strange. Maybe it's because the priests are not diocesan clergy of D&C?

  53. Summary: You can be an active homosexual and a blind eye will be turned, kneel at the consecration and you're out and the Vatican knows and does nothing. Remember though that in the worst of times in the Church's history the 'guano' has always resulted in great 'blooms' emerging from it and so it will be today - there is, as always, a hidden remnant, more St. John Vianney's, more Padre Pio's, more St. Edmund Campion's, more St. Oliver Plunkett's etc. They and, Our Lady, will soften God's heart again, like Israel before, to His Church.
