ARMAGH COVER UP

ARMAGH COVER UP

ON THURSDAY MORNING EAMON MARTIN the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Armagh celebrated the funeral Mass of former Beragh PP Father Arthur Mc Anerney and NEVER MENTIONED that the deceased priest had a partner and daughter.

AMY MARTIN INCOGNITO

An Armagh priest present did report to me that AMY did go over to greet the two ladies and welcomed a KERRY and a DERBHALA without mentioning their relationship to the good father.

I cannot understand this as it is a matter of public knowledge in Ireland that Father Mc Anerney fathered the child in Drogheda when he was a curate there.

Interestingly Drogheda is also the home of AMY'S fallen Master of Ceremonies - Father Rory Coyle of GRINDR fame.

In fairness to Father Mc Anerney he always acknowledged his daughter and is on record as saying that he supported her financially over the years and that this financial support came from his own private income and NOT from any church funding.

On Thursday in Armagh AMY was doing the DOUBLE. On the one hand he greeted the ladies privately but on the other hand he did not mention them in the funeral homily. AMY is a Church COMPANY man through and through.

He would not want to mention anything that drew attention to anything scandalous but would yet want everyone to think he was "NICE".

By the way the former incumbent of Armagh Sean Baptist "The Wounded Healer" Brady never made a show but sent along his apologies. He's a great man at sending his "apologies"

Why did Amy Martin not just say something like:

I WOULD LIKE TO WElCOME FATHER ARTHUR'S DAUGHTER DERBHALA AND HER MUM. AS WE ALL KNOW FATHER ARTIE BECAME DERBHALA.S DAD WHEN HE WAS A CURATE IN DROGHEDA.

HE WENT ON TO CONTINUE AS A GOOD PRIEST AND LOVED BY HIS PARISHIONERS. AND HE LOOKED AFTER HIS DAUGHTER OUT OF HIS OWN PERSONAL RESOURCES.

WE KEEP FATHER ARTIE'S FORMER PARTNER, HIS DAUGHTER AND ALL HIS FAMILY, PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS IN OUR PRAYERS.

What would have been wrong with that? It would have been so refreshingly honest for an Irish bishop to deal with like that.

Instead Amy was using the old Catholic Church method - "If you see a pig with two heads say nothing".

He knew about Artie's daughter. Those present at the funeral knew. His parishioners have known for 18 years. His family knew about it.

Everyone at the funeral were conscious of the Elephant in the cathedral and Amy, true to form, tried to pretend there was no Elephant there.

That's what his predecessors have done with all the abuse scandals in the Church.

That's what they did about the Magdalen Laundries.

That's what they did when each and every priest made a woman pregnant or lay down with another man.

Have they learned NOTHING ?

Do they not believe their Jesus who said: THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE?

No! They play Church politics. They always have and they always will. Its in their DNA.

They used to shoot themselves in the foot. Now they have moved on to shooting themselves in the head.

Amy Martin will be the "leader" of Irish Roman Catholics for another 20 + years. What a prospect !!!

The only thing they understand is public exposure and when victims of all kinds hit them in their pockets.

  3. It was very WRONG to not acknowledge his daughter from the altar just like is done at other funerals, Fr Gates was open and honest, why not the celebrant at funeral mass, he hasn't done himself any good there
    Another hypocrite

  4. Perhaps instead of criticising we could celebrate an advance. The two ladies were acknowledged and welcomed. So often at a priest's funeral 'significant others' have to hide in the crowd and be careful not to draw attention to themselves or their tears.

    1. That depends 100% on the WILL he made.

After Fr Michael Cleary's death his partner Phylis Hamilton sent for me.

Cleary had given her a will leaving everything to her.

The day after he made a will leaving everything to the Archbishop of Dublin !!!!!

  7. I do not know the details of this case and have never met any of the people concerned. (to my knowledge). Before commenting on what was or what was not said at the funeral service perhaps it would help if we knew what were the wishes of the family concerned. I know from personal experience this can be a very touchy matter. I am just raising the question.

    1. Dear Iggy, At Father Mc Anerney's Reception of the Remains" ceremony in Magherafelt Parish his daughter Derbhala was invited on to the sanctuary to read a poem and thank people for their kindness to her priest Dad by the PP Father Gates.

I cant imagine her not being willing to do a similar thing at his funeral?

      Maybe the Primate could clarify?

    2. PS: Bishop Michael Dallat's partner was sidelined by the powers that be at his funeral in St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast.

Why hide the woman / man?

    3. Nothing to clarify. Those are the current guidelines. A relative may speak at the Removal but not within the Requiem Mass.

      Delete
    4. And why could Derbhala not speak at the end of the Requiem Mass and from outside the sanctuary if, as a woman or person, she was "unclean" in some way?

      Amy was in charge!

    5. Yes, it takes two to tango. So why is it always the priest/bishop who gets all the blame and not the woman/man? Why does Adam get all the blame when it was Eve who fell first?

    6. The woman is NOT the one with the promise / vow of celibacy / chastity ! - unless she is a nun of course - which has often happened too.

    7. Would have thought it's just as important to respect other people's vows/promises as it is to respect one's own.

  10. When Father Michael Cleary died his partner - and the mother of two of his children - sent for me. I visited her and we had a long chat in the kitchen of the presbytery they lived in in Harold's Cross, Dublin.

She told me that on the very day of the funeral some members of the Cleary clan came and took away the car and many items from the house.

Because he had never had the decency to make her his wife - even civilly - she had to sit and watch their belongings taken away by the Good Catholics.

To the day he died Cleary introduced her to people as "an unmarried mother he had taken in to live in his house".

I had never liked Cleary. But hearing all this from Phylis convinced me that he was a Catholic King Rat.

    Phylis later died of cancer.

I can only hope that God gave them both justice.

  13. I see that +Eamon has a new Master of Ceremonies at the Cathedral in Armagh. I witnessed him prancing around the Sanctuary for myself at Fr Artie's funeral on Thursday. Seems to be dressed in lace for such a young man that he is. When I made enquiries about him I was told that he is not as squeaky clean as he appears. He was a close friend of Fr Rory Coyle I understand and he admits to loving gadgets and Netflix. You wonder were these young Priests get so much free time these days?

    5. Let us just say that I wont be sending my son to anymore world youth days after the last one in Poland. It will be his first and last and also any youth events. He was scunder by the carry on and behavour of some of the young Armagh priests including that tall one at the Cathedral. What sticks in my throat is the amount of money me and my wife spent to send him there. I am not saying it was abuse or anything dirty but it was just their oul carry on and behaviour. That picture of the bishop in sunglasses and baseball cap at the same place sums it up. When I saw that picture I was raging and brought it back to me what my son saw. He was not going to tell us anything about it when he came back but I dragged it out of him. We have stopped going to chapel and I am still thinking about writing to that oul bishop in sunglasses but I don't think his type will listen to a halion farmer like me.

  16. 20.12 I am sorry that I have hit a raw nerve with you in the facts/truths I outlined in an earlier comment. To resort to calling me Judas is childish and immature. If you have a problem Thomas or friend of Thomas then I will quite happily name myself only if you are prepared to. Failing that, I am quite happy to leave my full details with Pat Buckley so you can contact him directly. I am appalled and I suppose saddened at the language and bullying our younger clergy get up to these days.

  18. 22.09. I don't agree that Pat needs to feel any shame for giving us the facts of the burial of the father of a young woman
Should he have ignored the facts of the funeral. No

It is in all our interests to understand how the rc church handles
A daddy who is also a priest , but that story hasn't come out yet
We only know about the Beragh episode and the funeral
Now, Pat, can you find out if the priest was avoided at conferences
    And other gatherings
Do you think that s brady avoided him

But the PP of Magherafelt - his last posting - had his daughter on the altar.

    2. 22.23: This story is archive news. I was in Church many years ago when Fr McAnenery announced this from the pulpit in Beragh as Parish Priest. It was received with around of applause and much love and respect by every parishioner. He asked for understanding and forgiveness if he caused offence that very day. A statement was later read from the then Bishop, Cardinal Brady who supported Fr McAnenery and asked parishioners to continue to keep him and all Priests in their prayers.
I had the pleasure of attending his Funeral in which Archbishop Eamon give an apology on behalf of Cardinal Brady who was in Rome, his sincere sympathy was offered.
I'm certain that his Daughter and her mother sat in the front row along side the McAnenery family at his Funeral.
I hope this clears up all confusion and misunderstanding.
Pat, please show respect to Fr McAnenerys family and his many friends.

  19. I am sorry Sheila Q from Beragh. Why do you consider this archive news? Can I be blunt and tell you why its archive news. Fr McAnernery would have never told his parishioners he fathered a daughter, we still would have been in the dark completely. He wasn't honest whatsoever or brave in announcing it - but why did he choose to? He chose to because a newspaper was going to expose him and then later did after he first announced it himself. Now that's what we call in the Church damage limitation - Sean Brady would be well aware of this strategy and no doubt advised Fr Arthur. You are also wrong to peddle the assertion that Brady sent his apologies because he was in Rome, another untruth. Being in Rome was not mentioned whatsoever, he did not offer any sincere sympathies, he only apologised for not being present - I know because I was present and listened to every word carefully. Fr Arthur was a hypocrite I am sorry to say, he only came clean and admitted it when the papers were going to expose him. It was damage limitation to a tee and no better person to advise him on that was Cardinal Brady, who has the complete gall to continue showing his face in public after covering up child abuse.

    1. I'm afraid 16:18 is correct.

The Catholic Clergy - high and low - do not believe in truth, honesty and transparency.

And they do engage big time in damage limitation.

I have seen this on numerous occasions over 40 years.

You would think that the scandals of the past would teach them.

No! I'm afraid cover up is in their very DNA from the Papal Apartments to the most lowly curacy on the globe :-(

    2. 16:18... Go read the definition of 'Hypocrite.' present at Fr Arthur's Funeral and then call the man a Hypocrite, there's only one winner of the 'hypocrite trophy' and that's 16:18!
Did you receive the Blessed Sacrament? If so did you attend Confession? Have a think about it!

    3. For the record I didn't receive the host at communion on Thursday at the funeral of Fr Arty in Armagh cathedral. The reason was like for some time now I haven't felt worthy. Does the priests in armagh giving the communion feel less worthy like me or more worthy than me. 17.02 you seem very judgemental, very passive aggressive and you are clearly an Armagh young cleric or his friend. Lets meet and have a chat.

    4. 21:11... I'm afraid I'd have more interest in meeting Pat Buckley than you, your decision to receive or not but I presume 'Hypocrite' played its part in the later part!
At the Mass for no reason but to be seen but with a heavy judgemental cold hearted heart.
I went to pray For Fr McAnenery and offer my sincere condolences to his family and many friends and yes' daughter included.
I'll include you and Pat in my night prayers that the Holy Spirit may enlighten you both with Mercy, Compassion and Forgiveness.
