PAT'S INTERVIEW

PAT'S RECENT INTERVIEW WITH JOE NAWAZ - JOE PUBLIC
Belfast Podcaster Joe Nawez recently came to Larne and we conducted this interview at my kitchen table. I hope Blog readers will take time to listen to it. Joe covers a lot of material from my life - all the issues. WARNING! For the early part of the interview I mix up 1978 and 1998 ! CONGRATULATIONS TO JULIE AND BRENDAN MARRIED AT THE ORATORY YESTERDAY.

  1. Pat,
I listened to this interview recently, you had it linked on your twitter account. A good cup of coffee and I sat and listened to it and I was a brilliant interview... I felt like I was the third party at your kitchen table. I highly recommend other blog readers listening into to, I found it both very informative and in parts extremely funny. Impartial from Joe's approach and honest on yours. No question asked was avoided. I hope readers of this blog take time to enjoy it.

  2. Good interview. First time I heard a bishop being honest and open and answering questions without trying to spin.

Pity the rest of the Irish bishops are not as transparent. For a start it would solve the Gaynooth problem.

    Priest.

    1. I agree. We do not expect our bishops and priests to be perfect. We know they are human.

But we do expect them to be honest and truthful.

To me this interview's hallmark is its honesty and its humanity.

I wish I lived near The Oratory. If I did I would return to Mass.

  3. I took time to listen to this interview and appreciated it.

How can a "Christian" church treat one of its priests like they treated Pat?

I think it is an indication of the strength and integrity of Pat's vocation that he has persevered in spite of it all.

In the end of the day we owe our allegience to Christ and our neighbour.

"Obedience to God comes before obedience to men".

    1. The window is created using applied modern materials - not paper.

The extension lead:-) It was an informal wedding with just 5 present.

      I am here for all.

    2. I too think that Pat should be back with us. He should never have been put out by Daly.

What did he do wrong? Nothing.

    3. Today is the 25th anniversary of our wedding with Pat. We have been very happy and have 3 lovely, healthy children. The two priests we spoke to before Pat, including my own cousin, spoke about canon law. Pat spoke to us about Jesus and his understanding and love for us. We have always gone to Mass as a family. This in the Year of Mercy. Pat showed us mercy. Clare. Donegal.

    4. Clare. Congratulations. Your marriage never need justification in God's eyes.

But your fidelity to it, each other, your children and your faith reaffirms your vocation.

I am so glad I could. If I showed you "mercy" it was only because of how merciful God has always been to me.

      Pat x

  6. Ack sure luckin at the wee couple gettin hitched brings me back 70 years ago til my own day when me an ma maun gat married in St peter's.

I'd a wee dress on ma like that wee bride and the whole wee district was out till see ma. there wuz no honeymoons in lem days. It was straight up lem stairs til start a fambly.

And readin about the pappy sure it made me think of ire big dean. If my mor had seed me wif a pappy she wuda slapped the bake af ma.

But ire big dean came til ma one day wif his wee friend Nigel and tault me all about the pappy.

"Lily", says he til me, "the Poppy is not a sectarian or political symbol but represents the depth of sheer gratitude all Her Gracious Majesty's subjects owe - and are duty bound to express - towards all of our armed forces, who laid down their lives for our defence and freedom".

Awful well spoke big man is ire dean so he is. Well, iver since, i haf wore my pappy wif pride.

Talkin af ire dean, has anybody seen head nor tail af him? He's awful missed in this wee neighbourhood so he is.

Tell im big Lily's dour is always open fer him til call for his fry, or a drap o tea an a slice o' bap.

    1. The Dean is awaiting permission to hear Confessions at Westminster Cathedral.

    2. Yes I had heard. This is all part of the "slowly slowly catchey monkey approach" of the Cathedral Master of Music Martin Baker who has become great pals with Big Hughey. He is just blown away by him and his equisite musical tastes. In fact I hear that he has taken Baker (a slippery Anglican and a terrible snob) out to the Opera and for some fine dining as well. Baker has been trying to get his mate to be main celebrant at the Solemn Mass on a Sunday Morning. So far this has been refused. Now he is approaching the matter via the confessional. The Chaplains at the Cathedral are always short of priests to carry out this role, so I am sure that he will be given permission and thus his foot is well and truly in the door. What is significant is that there has been a change of personnel at the CAthedral and a new Precentor (in charge of Liturgy) and he is not as wiley at the previous one - an excellent priest snapped up by Vinnie to become his Private Secretary. Watch this space. Big Hughey is in this for the long stretch and has been indiscreet enough when drink taken to suggest that he would love to be Administrator of the nations premier Catholic Cathedral.

    3. A wonderful example of Big Hughey in his habitual mode of being utterly delusional. If Vinnie had any sense, he would send him back to +Noel asap - a kind of early UnChristmas present.

    4. Dr Kennedy did such an absolutely outstanding job on St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast!

How wonderful it would for him to have a crack at the Westminster post?

That fine baritone, held and caressed by the undulating timbres of the Grand Organ, coaxed lovingly and gently by Master Baker's hand, reverberating through the aisles and apses of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood, will surely bring tears of the eyes of the most hardened.

    5. Is Martin Baker a married man or is he a confirmed bachelor like the Dean?

    9. It is certainly true that Kennedy did an absolutely outstanding job "on" St Peter's. It is till recovering from his "job" and he has left Nigellica behind to ensure the continued "anglicanization". Nigellica will be getting jealous about Baker.

If it is true that the "Dean" thinks himself in with a chance as Adm of Westminster then, truly, his buffoonery knows no limits. Indeed, it could be said that he is pathological.

No doubt, he probably sees himself as a possible successor to Vinnie! Delusional doesn't quite cover it - LOL!

  7. It was an interesting interview Bishop Buckley. I especially liked the interviewer bringing out the cosmopolitan atmosphere you have introduced to the good folks of Larne :-)

  9. I have said on this blog before that Kennedys card is well marked here. He has appeared at the 10.30 Solemn Mass on Sunday's a few times but only as a con celebrant. There is little chance of him being presider. I know he was there a couple of weeks ago and on leaving the sacristy afterwards one of the cathedral chaplains referred to him in plummy tones as " a Belfast Bollox" Vin will use him and dump him if necessary. Also Tuckwell ( the ADM) is only too well aware of Hughies " previous form" !

  10. Your willingness in interview to give straightforward honest thoughtful answers consistant with a caring attitude to others made a refreshing change from the customary Janus like tautological legalistic doctrinaire based bullshit spouted by most clerics of all persuasions.
    Thank you Pat.
