MAYNOOTH - THE LATEST

MAYNOOTH - THE LATEST

FATHER PAUL PRIOR
THE BLOG has received unconfirmed reports that FATHER PAUL PRIOR is being replaced as Director of Formation at the disgraced gay seminary, Maynooth - by FATHER TOMAS SURLIS - the current president of St Nathy's College in Mayo.

FATHER SURLIS is a highly regarded priest of the Diocese of Achonry and a much loved teacher / president at Saint Nathys.

As I say these reports are unconfirmed and we await further clarification.

MAYNOOTH'S GHOST ROOM?

MAYNOOTH / GAYNOOTH SEMINARY has a GHOST ROOM
Here is a piece about it:
If you visit Maynooth today, you might come across an old building on the campus called Rhetoric House. You might notice that one of the windows on the top floor is boarded-up and you might wonder why. If you ask someone, they will tell you this is The Ghost Room.
Many years ago, students who went to Maynooth would live on the top floor of the building. There was one young man who was assigned to sleep in Room No.2. One day, when he didn’t show up for lectures, his friends went looking for him. They found his dead body lying in a pool of blood on the floor of Room No.2 with his throat slit from ear to ear. Clutched in his hand was a bloody razor and it appeared that he had taken his own life.
Ireland was a Catholic country and, at the time, suicide was seen as a terrible sin. The matter was hushed up by the college and the student was buried in an unconsecrated part of the college cemetery, away from the other graves.
For the rest of the year, the room lay vacant, but when the next year began, it was assigned to another young man. To the shock and horror of everyone involved, this young man was also found dead under the exact same circumstances. He had slashed his own neck with a razor.
The college authorities were horrified to have two suicides on their hands. The fact that they both happened in the same room was even more unsettling. However, they decided to hush it up again and the student was quietly buried and everyone tried to forget what had happened.
Despite all of these forboding events, the very next year, the college assigned another young man to live in Room No.2. One morning, after mass, the student jumped out of the window of his room and landed on the ground outside Rhetoric House. He had broken most of the bones in his body, but he was still alive. In his hand, he was clutching a razor. When they brought him to hospital, the student had a terrifying tale to tell.
While he was in his room that morning, he happened to glance in the mirror and was horrified to see a demonic face staring back at him. Suddenly, he was overcome by a powerful urge to kill himself. Unable to control himself, he grabbed a razor and was about to slit his own throat. Struggling against the demonic force, he managed to throw himself out the window and this is what saved his life.
After hearing the young man’s story, the college authorities decided to investigate. They asked one of the priests to stay the night in the haunted room. In the morning, they found him curled up in a ball, gibbering and shrieking like a maniac. His hair had turned completely white and he refused to say a word about his harrowing experience.
The college president decided that enough was enough and nobody else must ever be allowed to spend the night in Room no.2. He immediately ordered that room was to be turned into an oratory. The window was boarded up, the front wall was knocked down and the door was removed. A shrine to St. Joseph, the patron saint of Peaceful Death, was placed on an altar at the back of the room.
If you go there today, they say you can still see bloodstains on the wooden floor. Nobody is ever allowed to bring a mirror into the room. The graves of the dead students still stand in the cemetery and their names are carved on a bronze plaque in the college as a grim reminder of the horrific events that occurred there.
PAT SAYS:
Its very easy in a religion focused society to put events down to ghosts and spirits that in reality have a perfectly normal or scientific explanation. In the past Ireland was much more superstitious than it is today. The Devil and evil spirits were blamed for a lot of things that may have been done by humans.
As a believer I am perfectly open to the possibility of the supernatural breaking into the natural - but I like to exclude natural explanations first.
What could the natural explanation of the Maynooth suicides have been?
1. Was there a murderer or murderers on the staff?
2. Is the Maynooth Gay Cabal phenomenon older than we think and did the seminarians self harm and kill themselves because they were stalked, sexually harassed or even assaulted by someone?
3. Was there mental illness or some other serious psychological dysfunctionality present in Maynooth then too?
4.   Were these deaths / injuries down to lover's tiffs?
5. Was some predecessor of Diarmuid Martin taking extreme action to stop "strange goings on"?

6. Did something go wrong when the seminarians were been quizzed about their wet dreams and erections by a Director of Malformation of the day?

Who knows?
In any event it would be very interesting if some modern Ghost Buster could be given the job of trying to get to the bottom of it all.
Turning the room into a chapel to St Joseph and banning mirrors is hardly very scientific? St Joseph is not a scientist. He is a carpenter.
Anybody out there got any ideas?

  1. Let's hope and pray Pat that the reports are true.

The current senior formator in Maynooth is one of the salient causes of all that is wrong in the National Seminary.

Let's also hope that the proposed replacement has been well vetted by the Bishops and Nuncio.

  2. It sounds like folklore typical of university campuses with the usual ghost tropes thrown in to increase its narrative force. Suicide, young life cut short way before its time and dishonorable burial are very much at the top of the list of usual suspects behind those believed to become ghosts though actual apparitions of the dead are not mentioned in the text above. 3. Bishop Pat, sorry for going off the topic/subject. Have you seen the secret 30 year files released today that have been released. Cahal Daly denounces and pours scorn on the SDLP. He also denounces Robin Eames as the choice for Armagh. Who else did he denounce behind the scenes. It's all being made clear. Hateful man, now the proof is coming out now.

  4. If the above reports are true Pat, the missiles of truth, justice and charity have finally pierced Conman's, Fanny's and Pryer's bunker of lies, calumny and destroyed genuine vocations.

The truth always prevails in the end.

  5. The so-called 'ghost room' is now rebranded...as an office for a lay academic.

I sometimes think there is nearly as much superstitious nonsense in Roman Catholicism as doctrinal drivel.

    1. Possibly. But the superstition is less dangerous than the doctrinal drivel.

It's coming out today in the Papers that he even criticised the appointment of Robin Eames to Armagh. What a vile person Daly was. All smiles to your face but knife you in the back. He had no time for ordinary folk, he even had a man servant from what I hear. Treated people like shite.

  14. + Bishop Pat, today is a most auspicious day indeed for yourself and other victims who have suffered greatly at the hands of diminutive clerical bullies suffering from Napoleon Complex.

Clerical bullies and sociopaths will resort to any expedient in order to achieve their own evil ends. They will destroy a person's character if needs be. They don't care.

Today is their day of reckoning with Truth for the misery they have caused others.

  15. Pat,
Am I not the quare boy sitting on my big chair now feeling, like you, fully vindicated in my constant assertion that Cahal Brendan Daly, Loughguile's finest son,was a man who would have gone to any lengths to protect the church rather than uphold the teachings of the gospel. And didn't give twopence who or what was sacrificed - including the truth.
He undoubtedly had a superior intellect but unfortunately this was fused with a vicious and nasty temprament which he could use with force against anyone, clerical or lay, who crossed him or had an opposing viewpoint.
There was nothing as pathetic as watching grown men, many in their 40's and 50's cringe with terror from his caustic rebuke. I watched him in action many times.
Pat you will never know the quiet mirth and amusement (and a great deal of private admiration) you caused the day you stood before him in the cathedral. It is still talked about and laughed over.
He was duplicitous, two faced and now at long last exposed for the little reptile he was.
Today's revelations, with I'm sure more to come, give an extra edge to the statement made by an old holy water lily in Armoy who, commenting on his death, said that we would never see his likes again. Hopefully not!

    2. Directors of formation ought to not be careerist - they tend to be controversial figures who destroy people and trust. History shows that they are normally returned to parish ministry - a recent exception being Ex-Fr Donal o'Neill who initially got desk jobbed due to the complaints against him.

The danger with Formators is that they are ambitious, but this will be the most responsibility that they will ever hold. They readily allow this go to their head, see it as a position of power and hold seminarians to absolute obedience. They are the worst of never-to-be-bishops.

  29. And now, O priests, this command is for you. If you will not listen, if you will not lay it to heart to give glory to my name, says the Lord of hosts, then I will send the curse on you and I will curse your blessings; indeed I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart. I will rebuke your offspring, and spread dung on your faces, the dung of your offerings, and I will put you out of my presence.

Know, then, that I have sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi may hold, says the Lord of hosts. My covenant with him was a covenant of life and well-being, which I gave him; this called for reverence, and he revered me and stood in awe of my name. True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in integrity and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity. For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts. But you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts, and so I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you have not kept my ways but have shown partiality in your instruction. (Malachi 2:1-9)

  30. Not much action happening round the Graf with the lads away on holiday.31 December 2016 at 14:39

If Paul Prior is posted to a parish it'll be a shock for him. So many formators have never served in parishes, or only briefly eg the Wounded Healer. In my day in Gaynooth the three deans (Clancy, Ahern, Duhig) had been teachers in diocesan colleges but never served in parishes. Same with Ledwith and the vice-president O'Donnell. Yet they felt able to decide who should be the future parish priests. What madness is that. Similarly many bishops have never worked in parishes. It would be akin to appointing a chief constable who had never walked the beat.

And +Pat, you might be interested that the comedian Jake O'Kane was performing in Enniskillen last night. He put up the Arlene's on fire video.
