POPE, BRADY AND IRELAND

ENDA KENNY AND SEAN BRADY AT VATICAN THIS WEEK

AND WHO WAS PRESENT AT THE VATICAN ON MONDAY WHEN ENDA KENNY MET POPE FRANCIS - YES - OF COURSE THE WOUNDED HEALER - SEAN BRADY.

Another high profile outing for Brady in spite of his part of the cover up in child abuse in Ireland!

Brady just keeps PUSHING - and PUSHING - and PUSHING.

In spite of his past he insists on turning up at every party in town.

And MARK MY WORDS - if and when Pope Francis comes to Ireland in 2018 I can assure you the same SEAN BRADY will be sitting with him in the Pope mobile touring Ireland - North and South dressed in red silt from head to toe.

For this reason alone I would definitely not take part in any aspect of Francis' visit.

In 1979 when John Paul 11 came I brought 3 busloads of teenagers from Belfast to Galway to the Pope's gig.

But since then I have lost all respect for the Roman Catholic Institution over which the pope presides.

I have lost that respect because of all the abuse of children and  adults - because of the horrific Magdalen Launderies - because of the likes of SEAN BRADY.

And then there is the whole question of Maynooth / Gaynooth which is now being run by an aggressive gay clique that targets both straight seminarians and gay seminarians who want to behave.

I have also lost trust in Archbishop Diarmuid Martin who pretended to do something about Maynooth but who in in fact a supporter of the gay clique in his own diocese. Next year we will probably see him ordain Michael Gorgeous Byrne in Dublin's Pro Cathedral.

Pope Francis himself may be a decent human being but he is surrounded in the Vatican and in the universal Church by great gangs of ecclesiastical mafia.

The Catholic Church bears absolutely no resemblance to the community Jesus Christ founded 2,000 years ago.

So when Francis comes to Ireland I will be staying at home minding my own business - or I may even arrange to be out of the country at the time.

But I will certainly not be giving credence to BRADY & CO by my attendance at any of their spin orientated gigs.

There will be enough people around to genuflect to them and kiss their rings.

Ireland, to date, is still suffering from Roman Catholic-itis.

I, thank God, have seen the light and am both in recovery and on the way to being cured.

  1. As the CEO of the largest world organisation, one would think that Francis and his predecessors would actually visit countries with large Catholic populations, especially at a time of crisis, rather than places like Georgia, where he annoys the Orthodox or Azerbaijan or Turkey where there is no Catholic community. He should get out and see his sheep more often rather pretend that the schisms of 1054 or 1517 can be healed while the Catholic Church retains its present structure and rules. Of course, the Catholic world is much bigger than Ireland but to disregard it so much while the entire population undergoes a transformation and rejection of traditional belief, not seen since the Christianisation of the island in the fifth century, is utter stupidity and madness.

  2. I think if you get a chance to see the Pope go for it Pat. It would cause a media ripple whether they say yes or no. I presume they would not want you to concelebrate at a mass because you must be excommunicated by now whatever that means in real terms. As you said more than once your Orders and Sacraments are valid. Brady et al are what they are to you but I believe you are big enough to rise above it all for the sake of the greater good if meeting the Pope would serve this purpose

  4. Pat... You need to let the gift of Forgivness and Mercy into your life and drift away from the past, you have good to offer as an independent Cleric.
All this constant bitterness and fight with the Catholic Church is going to weight heavily on you, to much baggage from the past is enough to take any human being down.
I was sexually abused as a young girl by a family member, I'm now nearing 50 (My God) and I've put the past in the past and looked brightly to the future with a great life.
To fight constantly with the past leaves the body heavily bruised and scared.
Take advice from me and move on, you'll never win what your trying to achieve.
    God Bless you, Maura Antrim.

I am just interested in opening eyes and encouraging people to embrace a true Christianity rather than be trapped in any man made religion.

Unfortunately in our little country are still slaves to religion and facilitate abusive religious authorities.

    2. I agree wholeheartedly what you are trying to do, but as a practising Catholic myself and who has like many many others got good from the Church and it's many exceptional working groups feel that the Church is in a much better transitional place now than it was 20 years ago.

I totally agree that things are not fully perfect but believe by looking to the future it will prosper to nearly prefect.

I give my experience from the past as an example of my fight which was only going to take me down, so I decided to move to the future with God's help and now I'm healed, thankfully.

Look after yourself as number 1, cause life's too short.

  6. Flabbergasted that Brady was in Rome on Monday with Enda Kenny after looking at his smug face at Armagh Cathedral on Sunday. Has this man no SHAME. I will not be taking any part in a Papal visit if he shows up which he will. I was totally disgusted watching that YouTube programme about him, 'This World: The Shame of the Catholic Church'. What they said about Brady was deeply shocking and disturbing.

    2. Pat you seem not to know Cardinal Brady so well and have a deep sense of hatred towards him, not so very Christian like!
I know him as a man of God with a resounding Faith, full of mercy and compassion and deeply respected by many.
The Church is in a different place now than it was when the then Fr Brady was sent by his Bishop to take notes at the meeting of a youth that was abused by the evil Brendan Smith. Pat your old enough to know that if a priest back then told you to climb a tree, you would have done it. Am I right in saying that?
Cardinal Brady was no different and has apologied to those abused and hurt from clerical abuse.
I hope all those that abused children in the name of God pay dearest for their actions.

Go and take your excuses to Brendan Boland and the other 140 other children Smyth abused, some of which Brady hushed up and swore them to secrecy. It's people like you who really make me sick, defending, excusing, being party to the cover up. Do us all a favour, take your mate Brady with you and clear off.

If people want to have sex, let them have sex. What has it got to do with you? Just as celibacy is unnatural, so is lifelong monogamy. And you talk about prostitutes as if they were the lowest of the low - spare us.

These are not religious restraints placed on us. - they are inbuilt into our human nature - Pagan, Christian or whatever, otherwise
If you want to kill - kill
If you want to steal. - steal
If you want to perjure yourself a - lie
If you want to destroy someone's character - just do it

    3. This is the point I was trying to get across as it happens, and thank you for drawing out the natural law basis of morality. When we become arbiters of our own morality, then anything goes. Which is why we must cleave always to the teaching of the Church and the tradition handed on to us. Once we start using an entirely subjective concept of conscience and false thinking such as 'if two people love each other, then there can be no sin', we move on to the slippery slope I highlighted above. So to bring the point back to the first commentator, it is simply not the case that one can draw distinctions between different types of homosexual activities. The Church has been explicitly clear that under no circumstances can they be approved.

  9. Cardinal Brady is a lost cause.
No self knowledge or realisation of the damage he has done and continues to do to the Irish Church.
Pope Francis should have sent Card Brady & Card Law ( another 'Bad smell' who turns up at everything) to a monastery , to live in silence. They might then come to their senses.

It's just about pumping already over inflated egos. The ambition hungry Irish clerics at home and in Rome will be working hard to impress. The last hurrah for Brady. 14. Interesting headline in the Tablet about the possibility of the cardinals who could hypothetically lose their red hats:
The four cardinals who have publicly challenged Pope Francis' family life document could lose their red hats, according to a senior Church lawyer. Mgr Pio Vito Pinto, who leads the Vatican's appeal court, says the prelates have caused 'grave scandal' by calling into question the Pope’s faithfulness to Catholic doctrine...

    1. Should they be Papolators instead? The very people who under the last pontificates were decrying papolatory, seem to have fallen victim to the vice themselves under the present pontificate. 19. I cannot see that the Catholic Church would invite Bishop Buckley to concelebrate Mass. Such a hope, while interesting, is forlorn. In any walk of life, if you end up in court with your employer, the likelihood of getting an invite to the alumni reunion is negligible. The Pope has presumably agreed to visit because of the enormous past contributions made by the Irish Church and its Faithful to Christian life on this island over 1500 years. He has doubtless been persuaded that a visit will 'lift morale' after the depressing scandals, the lengthy legal investigations that followed in their wake, and the considerable sums paid in compensation to victims of clerical abuse. As a result of compensation paid out, quite a number of religious orders are virtually finished in Ireland, drained financially, with morale at all time lows. Some of them will disappear entirely within a generation. The Pope will doubtless wish, in bidding them farewell, to also pay tribute to the past contributions of these aged and now largely retired warriors of the Faith whose vocation in later life has been to care for fellow members of their order who are older even than themselves.
In view of the dwindling numbers of Faithful, it could be that the Pope will use his visit to announce radical changes to the organisation and structure of the Irish Church. While the number of priests-in-parish has significantly declined, there remains the same complement of bishops. The mis-match between chiefs and indians needs to be addressed. The number of dioceses can be reduced by merger and with that the number of bishops and archbishops. Given the greatly reduced number of practising Catholics it is doubtful that Ireland merits a cardinal to itself. More realistic would be to merge the cardinalates of Ireland and Scotland. They could share one on a rotating basis. There is sufficient commonality between these Celtic nations to make this acceptable to the Faithful of both countries.
During his visit the Pope may also urge that the merger of parishes should continue apace. There are too many of them. In future parishes may need to demonstrate a threshold headcount at Sunday Mass to justify a full-time priest and in addition satisfy a financial test that the weekly stipend is sufficient to support a priest and contribute to central administration. Parishes failing these tests may be redesignated as monthly Mass centres. The Faithful of such parishes would be absolved from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass weekly. Athlone Andy

    1. Athlone Andy what a diatribe you have imposed upon us. You mention the poor religious orders going bankrupt because of abuse cases, you mention the Papal visit will lift morale, you refer to the vast sums paid to victims. But you have not mentioned why the Irish Church is in this situation and more importantly you have not mentioned anywhere anything with regards to the victims of abuse. Another one totally in denial, are you living on the same planet man? The Papal visit (if it ever happens) will not lift morale, the Irish Church is sunk by the Clerics in charge of it and it is unable to rise above the mud and crap. Catholic Ireland is finished - get used to it.
