SEXUALLY ACTIVE GAY PRIEST SPEAKS

SEXUALLY ACTIVE GAY PRIEST SPEAKS:

PEOPLE WHO DO NOT LIKE THE TRUTH have accused me of making up the stories that appear on this Blog.

I absolutely refute that - but I imagine I will be accused of the same today - by BLIND CATHOLICS who do not want to face up to some things that are happening in their Church at present.

TODAY'S BLOG has been written and submitted by a young priest from a Northern Irish Diocese who wishes to speak about some realities in his own life and some of his fellow priests.

I know this priest. I have met him personally on a number of occasions for coffee and meals. I know his name, his diocese, his address, his age, his telephone number etc.

On one occasion I have visited him in his presbytery. On another occasion he visited me in The Oratory in Larne. We keep in touch mainly by telephone.

He has never asked me for my opinion about his life and I have not offered it. I do not feel that it is my job to judge him. I am his friend and I am and will be there for him.

By the way - just in case the more suspicious of you are wondering - we have no personal entanglements whatsoever - apart from a purely platonic friendship. I regard him as my Brother Priest.

His bishop, his family, his parishioners and most of the people who know him have no idea of what his real life is like. This is the way he has chosen - and still chooses - to keep it.

"Dorothy" or "A friend of Dorothy's" is gay slang for being gay.

Other terms are: "On the bus" ( one of us) ; "Musical" and "The Antique Disposition".

HIS STORY:

"I am a young gay Priest in N. Ireland and I also happen to be sexually active.  I have been sexually active since my days in the Seminary with other Seminarians and lay students.  I am currently having sex with  a young Orangeman who is a big supporter of the DUP - it takes all sorts.  I contracted an STD in the Seminary and regular unprotected anal sex is not uncommon in the College.  The country boys seemed to be more kinkiest than most but maybe they are used to watching the practices of their farmyard animals.

The talk on your blog yesterday about underwear preferences, well the good looking Seminarians always had their underwear stolen and kept as trophies or to satisfy a particular fetish.  The poor lads had to go commando in the end as most of their underpants had disappeared.  Some would wear them and get a kick out of it then there were those who wore cassocks and were completely naked underneath, another fetish.

I recognise the gay dating sites you mention, I've been on most of them and yes, other Seminarians and Priests use them for anonymous sex.  I also go to the gay saunas in Dublin for sex but I don't frequent the two Belfast saunas for obvious reasons.  I have met at least six priests from the North on different occasions in the sauna.  Seminarians also go cruising in the Dublin saunas, it's a well known fact.

I was introduced to bareback sex in the Seminary, people don't want to use condoms or be caught having them in your room.  I've had group sex in Seminary with up to 4 lads who are now Priests after a drunken party.  When I was in Rome and Lourdes I had sex with Seminarians, Priests and youth workers.  The World Youth Day gatherings are basically shag fests but the Church doesn't want to tell you that.

Bishops are living in denial, they turn a blind eye or just conveniently look the other way.  Being gay is part of me, sex is good but the reality is that there are many Priests like me who have regular gay sex under everyone's noses.  I certainly subscribe to the theory that Priesthood is a gay profession.  Many priests know Dorothy and are Dorothy, that's the fact.  If you can't see that fact then your better off somewhere over the rainbow.

When new Seminarians enter the Seminary they are basically like a meat rack on display, the other Seminarians want to know if they are Top or Bottom and how big their willies are.  They are not bothered where they come from, what qualifications they have or how holy they are.  Big youth festivals are also well frequented by Priests who just want a bit of twink eye candy.  They want to play the "cool" card by dressing in designer gear, wearing shades and no doubt designer undies and then hang out with the young ones.

In my experience  in the North, Armagh and Down and Connor have the greatest number of sexually active priests - gay and straight.

In the South I would award that accolade to Dublin, Cork (both dioceses) and Kerry.

I draw these conclusions from experience and not from statistics. And of course there are plenty of sexually active priests in every diocese.

It's true what they say, sexually active Seminarians become sexually active Priests, I got through because I was protected by the right people who were also part of the the gay network.  There is a gay mafia in the Church, make no mistake about it.  It's powerful and it's very influential, it's alive and kicking in Ireland and it's not far away from a place near any of you".

  1. I am confused Bishop Pat. Why do you name and shame non-ordained seminarians allegedly on Grindr, publish highly dubious allegations about the sexual preferences of Rory Coyle, make innuendo about priests in Armagh diocese.......and yet, in this case, you have a priest in a position much worse than the seminarians, who is clearly part of the gay mafia (or at least benefitting from it), and you respect his privacy and consider him a 'brother priest'?

    There are four options:

    (1) The story is a fabrication,
    (2) Hypocrisy is at work,
    (3) Someone is compromised, or
    (4) The only way to protect oneself against exposure is friendship with Bishop Pat.

I also note the idiosyncratic turns of phrase in this article. I note also the use of the outdated term STD (it has been STI for quite some time).

I fear something is not quite right with this Article. You were quite right, Bishop Pat, to anticipate that some of us will be very doubtful.

    1. The priest in question agreed to write the piece on the grounds that he remain anonymous. I agreed.

I would do the same for ANYONE I was co-operating with - priest, seninarian, religious, lay.

If you want to doubt the article it is your right.

  2. This priest, every time he celebrates Mass, he commits a mortal sin and sacrilege. The article is describing a system and lifestyle that is disgusting, sick and evil.

The priesthood in Ireland is obviously in need of such a purification that the Church, in general, will be left with a skeleton staff.

It would be far better for the Church to have five good priest to serve all 32 counties, than 5000 reprobates like the author of this disgusting article.

"Fr X", if you do not repent, you will spend eternity in Hell.

What normal, decent young man, with a vocation, homosexual or heterosexual, would want to enter a seminary such as described by the sick individual who wrote this piece?

Only degenerates and perverts would want to be part of such a system. Obviously that is the core of the problem.

Fr X, may God have mercy upon your immortal soul.

    3. The really tragic thing, "Fr", is that it is NOT a matter between you and God only.

You are entrusted with the care of souls. What you are doing - what have done by writing this blog - is scandalising people and for that, Jesus Himself warns - there will be terrible consequences.

God forgive you. I would not like to be in your shoes when you come to be judged when you leave this world.

  3. Question for the young gay priest. Why are you living a double life?

    1. I don't really know why I lead a double life to be frank with you. All I know is that I am far from alone in the Priesthood living a double life. I have spoken about it whereas others choose to cover it up.

    2. Fr, can you not see the terrible danger your soul is in?

You are giving scandal. It will be better for you that you had never been born.

Also, by hiding, you are actually adding to the cover up. You haven't "spoken about it". You are under cover. You have done no service to ending the "cover up".

Furthermore, every young priest, in Armagh and Down and Connor, is now under a question mark today because of this scurrilous and nasty "exposé" of yours!

You have done no one any good. God forgive you and have mercy on you. Do the decent thing and get out of the priesthood.

Why did you become a priest in the first place? Do you believe God called you to priesthood? Why do you stay?

Do you believe in God? Do you believe in the Catholic faith?

Obviously you don't live the life the Church expects you to live, do you think this is OK? How can you celebrate Mass with a clear conscience?

You say you were protected. By seminary staff? By priests? By bishops? Are these people still in positions of authority?

Are you aware of the bullying of heterosexuals? Is there a campaign to prevent non-gays becoming priests?

  10. It is not only the gays. Maybe I can relate my experiences as a female religious.

The Superior informed me that having taken the black veil, it only remained that I should swear the three oaths customary on becoming a nun; and that some explanation would be necessary from her. I was now, she told me, to have access to every part of the edifice, even the cellar, where two of the sisters were imprisoned for causes that she did not mention. I must be informed that one of my great duties was to obey the priests in all things; and this I soon learnt, to my utter astonishment and horror, was to live in the practice of criminal intercourse with them. I expressed some of the feelings which this announcement excited in me, which came upon me like a flash of lightning; but the only effect was to set her arguing with me, in favour of the crime, representing it as a virtue acceptable to God, and honourable to me.

The priests, she said, were not situated like other men, being forbidden to marry; while they lived secluded, laborious, and self-denying lives for our salvation. They might be considered our saviours, as without their service we could not obtain pardon of sin, and must go to hell. Now it was our solemn duty, on withdrawing from the world, to consecrate our lives to religion, to practice every species of self-denial. We could not be too humble, nor mortify our feelings too far; this was to be done by opposing them and acting contrary to them; and what she proposed was, therefore, pleasing in the sight of God. I now felt how foolish I had been to place myself in the power of such persons as were around me.

I know a young gay catholic man who in days gone by would probably have been a seminarian. He has the freedom to openly lead the lifestyle you secretly practice. Why don't you just be honest with yourself and your parishioners and do the right thing and resign.
It's called integrity. I notice there is no mention of God or the faith in your post. You say nothing about why you became a priest and why you stay. I hope you get the grace and strength to do what's right. God bless you.

    1. I think it is a huge mistake to say every Catholic priest is like today's priest.

Some priests - probably a small number - are celibate throughout their lives.

Some priests are heterosexual and are celibate.

Some heterosexual priests have one long term partner.

      Some gay priests are celibate.

Some have one long term partner. Others have many partners.

Some gay priests are very promiscuous and attend at saunas and are on gay sex dating sites.

  19. If a man gets married and has no intention of fulfilling the duties pertaining to that state - or is in some manner psychologically unfit for marriage - that marriage can declared null and void by the Church.

The Church needs to look at men - such as this Fr X and his ilk - and declare their ordinations null and void - since clearly they had no intention of fulfilling the requirements the Church expects of its ministers.

I have every sympathy with a priest who struggles to keep his vows and who, though human weakness, occasionally falls into sin but goes to confession determined to amend his ways.

However, what this Fr X is doing - and has done by writing this blog - is a new level of despicable. For not only does he flout his mortal sins in our faces but, from behind a cloak of anonymity, he implicates the majority of young priests, in the Northern dioceses and elsewhere, in his wickedness.

It is a devilish thing you have done Fr X. I hope that somehow you will be discovered and removed from the priesthood. You are a deadly poison and you will answer for your sins. There is no anonymity with God.

It seems that the dicastery is pushing for the closure of Maynooth after this academic year on account of the hierarchy's failure to deal with the issue. The current thinking is that all the foreign students at the Irish College will be moved out to other Roman colleges after the academic year is over to make room for the Irish students. The Curé d'Armagh is up in arms but has been told to suck it up or move on. They have also said that the Wing isn't big enough to provide proper formation but there has been a suggestion that it could be used for a propaedeutic year pre-Rome, which could also be used to weed out suitables. Idea is that there has to be a symbolic break with Maynooth.

You have spread scandal to the "little ones."

My faith has no problem dealing with the vicissitudes and abominations of members of the Church.
But your site does nothing to help those weak in faith!
There is certainly corruption in the Church as in every organisation e.g. British Football but that does not mak the church or any organisation essentially corrupt in itself!

      Sam
I do agree with the bishop's critic(s) and it is certainly something I can relate to!
Why can he not answer a simple yes or no question
Does he have the same broadcasting advisor as Aar Jarry (Adams)?

What is your problem with Sam.
He is from South Armagh, lower Killeavy and now lives in Co. Derry.
He did explain this. It does happen. People from this Parish now live in the USA, and New Zealand etc. Nothing unusual about it and they would say that they are Armagh People.
We hope that this concept will finally register with you!
We are - seven of us - the Pip & Sam club and we meet regularly.
It did cross our minds this evening that perhaps you are Wonky Willie or Magna Carta or of a similar mentality - aggressive, bull-dog types.
We believe that Pip & Sam are in the top three best contributors to the Bishop's blogs.
Agree also that it is difficult to get a lucid answer from his Lordship.

  24. I am shocked by the blog today but I am also shocked at the level of abusive language being used by Catholics on here. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the situation there is no need to descend into vulgarity.

  25. INTERESTING BLOG FACT:

this week there have been 564 visitors to this Blog from "Italy".

The vast majority of them will be from Rome.

It is good that ROME is watching.

At least on here they will see some of the truth of the Irish Church.

  26. How do u know those statistics Pat

    1. My Blog pane lets me know where people are posting from, how many are posting from each country, what search engine they are using etc.

Of course I cannot see individual web addresses.

And even if you are right - and I do not think you are - if 400 are visiting from other parts of Italy and 164 are visiting from Rome - then that not bad either.

Maybe ONE of those 164 is a pope? a cardinal? an archbishop? a bishop? etc.

I have had 100% reliable information that bishops do read the blog and that I have viewers in the Vatican.

      Its not that important.

      But it is interesting.

And it MIGHT cause some change???

  27. Rome is getting its picture from a number of sources. The starting point was the huge discrepancy between the accounts given about formation, and a high number of complaints that were written to the Nuncio, then passed on. But interestingly, a high number of complaints were made directly to Rome, including to the Congregation of Bishops. The discrepancy has caused officials to cast the net wider, as suspicion has grown that they are being fed a story. So in the usual Roman way, "feelers" have been put out to get a sense of what is really going on. I heard also that the opinions of the erstwhile Apostolic Visitors have been sought as a sounding board, to see if some of the feedback that has been received corresponds to what they were hearing at the time. The feeling is that the initial report of the Apostolic Visitors was tempered by the intervention of the Irish bishops on the basis that it was all fairly new at the time. But with the passage of time, the sense has grown that the initial perceptions of the Apostolic Visitors was in fact correct. So it seems that the new facts, the fact that after years when things had in fact settled a bit in Maynooth, and the deluge of complaints (both formal and informal, both direct and in press commentary) have caused something of a revisit of findings and a toughening of the line. There is also a sense that the Nuncio isn't relaying impartial information and that while not in the pocket of the bishops, he is unduly sympathetic. My own impression (though I have not heard this directly) is that DM had got wind of the coming changes, or at least caught a sense of them, and moved before changes were imposed so that he, at least, could save face.

    1. I believe that Charlie Brown and the Irish Bishops have misled Rome about the state of things.

They may have temporarily saved Maynooth but they have damned themselves in Rome.

  28. The attitude that 'I only have to answer to God' is a common one these days but it is totally in opposition to what the Church has always taught. To honestly hold that position is admirable to the degree that the person holding it is prepared to accept the consequences of his beliefs. Of course, for a Catholic priest to pretend that his conscience is the only arbiter of his actions is dishonest to a breathtaking degree and this will be known to the priest involved who will live in constant psychological tension knowing that he is a hypocrite and a liar who has taken solemn oaths in bad faith.
If I were in Ireland, I would withhold my money and give it to a trustworthy charity until the Church is seen to be taking serious steps to wash the filth from itself.

  29. I sometimes wonder why the gay scene appears to be more tolerated in Church circles than the hetro scene. The only conclusion I can come up with is children potentially impacting on finances and heredity issues. All said there is no room for double standards of any sort

  30. I normally respond to these blogs with the truth of Scripture and answers to the problems within, but I will no longer do that. We were warned not to parade our pearls in front of swine cause they would trample them into the ground. God's word is too precious to be used in this blog that borders on the edge of pornography. To Pat and those who blog here, maybe it's time you all spent more time in the prayer romm than time in the chat room.

  31. I hope that the Bishops responsible for dioceses in N. Ireland are now taking a good look around at their younger Priests. I'm surprised that the mainstream media haven't picked up on this disturbing blog today.

  32. I think I know who this young Priest might be going on what he has claimed and from my time spent with him in Maynooth. I wont name him in case my information is inaccurate but I am pretty sure I was in the Seminary with him and he is an Armagh Priest. The drunken group thing really rings a bell as does the saunas and the std.

  33. Am contradicted by this. Maynooth is a horrific place and should have been shut in 1966 when it ceased to be a seminary. I was there 1986 to 1990, and it was just so not like that. Main issue was seminarians having girlfriends.

  34. The question here is one of formation.
Fr X, the way you talk about your own judgement on sex is Protestantism pure and simple. It is obviously not really your fault because you haven't been formed as a Catholic and a priest.
I'm frankly very bothered by the gaping dichotomy between your profession and the life you lead
Whatever religion a person is, it is difficult or impossible to live with that divide.
I also wonder how you see yourself and to what extent you love yourself. May I suggest you meditate on how God loves you and the ways in which this love is best responded to and allowed to spread and fill the whole of life?
I hope you have not beem hurt by the violent response to your confession. But if nothing else and you must continue...

  35. I am deeply depressed by this blog. If it is true, then this young gay priest needs to repent.

Please, learn to serve Jesus and not your baser instincts. Sacrifice yourself for him and for your brothers and sisters. You can do so much incalculable good this way.

  36. For me, the most revealing thing about this post - and what causes me most sadness - is the response that it has provoked in some of the people who have commented here. Of course it was always meant to provoke but what reaction was intended I’m still not sure.
For me, the account from the 'guest poster' reads more like a case study for illustrative purposes than a true testimony. So be it. We’ll have to take Bishop Pat’s word for its authenticity. But I’m not questioning its likelihood: I would not for a minute doubt that there are sexually active priests, gay and straight. I know one who is and one or two more who have been.
Does the fact that there are sexually active priests bother me? Well, not so much. There is nothing quite like hypocrisy to get people angry but really, there are much greater matters for us to worry about in the Church, and in the world today.
While I don’t think it’s straightforward to make the causal link “sexually active seminaries become sexually active priests”, I do share the concerns of many who have commented here or elsewhere about seminary formation. Having been in Maynooth some years ago I recognise some of the 'goings on' as they have been described (in that I heard rumours while I was there, rather than having first-hand experience). Everyone who has been in seminary has their own unique experience of it.
I don't see this as a Maynooth-specific issue, however, and have become to get irritated by references to ‘Gaynooth’ etc. Seminaries are very odd places indeed, at once totally artificial and removed from real life. But all shades of human life are found there, flawed and frail as they may be. Seminary formation can be such a blunt tool, simply because the decisions that are made about candidates are the responsibility of those who are themselves are flawed and frail. The minimum one can hope for is that the staff have amongst their number someone with the appropriate training. For the those exploring their vocations to be fully served a lot more than that is required.

    1. Thank you for your very rational comment.

Once again I reassure you the piece was written by a real priest and submitted to me by email.

It was provocative in the sense that it was published to make people think and to make them aware of some realities.
