THE ODD COUPLE
THE IRISH BISHOPS "AD LIMINA" TO ROME ( JAN 15 - 25) IS BEEN OVERSHADOWED BY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AN ARCHBISHOP AND A DEACON - GORGEOUS AND DERMO.
Gorgeous in a twenty something former boxer from a working class area. He outed himself as gay to his family when he was 14. When Dermo accepted him to study for the priesthood for Dublin Gorgeous says he told Dermo he was gay.
Dermo sent him to study at Maynooth Seminary which has since being named Gaynooth.
Many would agree that Gorgeous is outwardly (inwardly ??? ) attractive. He is obviously very aware of this.
He has specialised in taking sexy looking selfie pictures and posting them on his various social media sites.
He likes to wear expensive designer clothing bought from places like Abercrombie & Fitch. We do not know how he can afford this.
He has had a profile on the SILVERDADDIES gay site spelling out his preferences:
- He likes men between the ages of 50 and 90.
- He likes cuddles, walks on the beach, meaning conversations.
- Sexually he likes to give and receive oral sex and while he will give and receive anal sex he has a preference for giving. In this he is obviously inspired by the words of Scripture:
"IT IS BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE" (Acts 20:35).
- He occasionally likes sex without emotions - "no strings attached".
- He appears to like being given cars, money, clothes, vestments etc by his senior admirers.
- He seems to have access to an apartment when one is needed - for pastor purposes of course.
- He likes to eat in the Saddle room of the Shelbourne Hotel Dublin and likes large G&T's.
- He buys some of his clerical garb at the papal tailor in Rome - Gammarelli.
- He has a great devotion to the Shroud of Turin.
- His favourite parishes in Dublin Archdiocese are the Pro Cathedral and Bray.
- He holidays in Barcelona in a five star hotel owned by a "family member".
DERMO:
His other half - Dermo - is very different. But then opposites attract!
- He is at that age described in Silverdaddies as "Daddies".
- Sadly he is not liked by the majority of the priests in Dublin.
- He keeps his two auxiliary bishops in pre-retirement mode.
- He travels a lot.
- He is very media savvy and media sensitive.
- He likes to wear a white clerical shirt which looks as if it DOES NOT come from Gammarelli's.
- He does not like Maynooth.
- He does not associate very much with his episcopal colleagues.
- When people tell him things he does not like to hear he gives them death stares.
- He refuses to countenance the fact that Gorgeous is not a saint.
- He likes to cook.
The dynamic in this relationship is hard to fathom.
Many people are talking behind Dermo's park and suggesting he is compromised in some way.
Pat Buckley on the other hand DOES NOT talk behind Dermo's back and told Dermo last Tuesday that he was being talked about and being compromised over the Gorgeous issue and asked him outright if he was compromised.
Dermo answered: "I have only been in a room on my own with that young man once - when I needed answers to some questions".
So that's where we stand just now. The internal relationship between Gorgeous and Dermo seems intact - although Gorgeous apparently boasts to others that he has Dermo wrapped about his little finger - at least.
Externally the relationship is under great public pressure.
G could bring D ++++++ down.
Which pressure will win - inner affection or outward pressure ?

AMY AFTER MASS AT THE IRISH COLLEGE, ROME, YESTERDAY NO SIGN OF GORGEOUS PICTURE COURTESY OF SEMINARIAN |
all Byrne's pictures are heavily edited with filters which can alter your appearance. The fact he does this highlights an insecurity which affirms my belief that he is acting a part ; that part being the handsome modern priest.
ReplyDeleteessentially hes a FAKE. if you cant take a picture in its natural form and publish it then you have issues.
on a side note may I take this opportunity to wish Dr Clive Earls of Maynooth University a happy birthday. I saw him mention it on a 'social network' app. *cough cough*
ReplyDeleteWas that for black daddies? I wonder.
DeleteAh.Poor DM loves a wee visit to Thailand. Ask Jim and Ian. X
ReplyDeleteI have no knowledge of the relationship between this "Deacon" and this Archbishop.
ReplyDeleteAs a former seminarian of Maynooth in recent times who couldn't care less about a person's sexual orientation, I have knowledge of how various "straight" and mildly conservative Catholic men were quickly shown the door by the Seminary Council/Formators for what appeared to be invalid reasons - or where in fact no reasons were given, although the candidates in question might have been very Marian in their focus on the way to God, perhaps attached to Medjugorje or even subject to "the cult of Padre Pio" - above all, they did not doff their caps to the very visible gang of quite brash and somewhat bullying Gay candidates who were clearly on the very best of terms with the Seminary Council and Formators. During recent years while quiet "Straights" were dumped out with frequency, rather more brash and crash characters sailed through Maynooth, Fr. Rory Coyle, Fr. Stephen Crossan, Deacon Michael Byrne and others whom I could very well name who shared at least one blatant characteristic with these candidates - but the dregs of charity bid me leave that long list of names out. The good Doctor Felim Donnelly made his prophetic complaint back in 2005 to the proper authorities about the "deep homosexual ethos" among the faculty of Maynooth and was immediately subject to pressure to get out. He could only find one single witness in Maynooth to support him when he was told to put up or get out - that was the former IRA Shane Paul O'Doherty who did in the end go witness for the Doctor. Not much information leaked out, but I believe O'Doherty got a 30 second interview with Archbishop Martin in which he was told he was not wanted for Dublin and he was out the door in short order. No primary interview, no secondary interview, no tertiary interview. Archbishop Martin would have been informed of Doctor Donnelly's formal complaint against Maynooth faculty in his Archdiocese and yet he never sought to interview him either before or after he was dumped out the door to enquire about any goings on in Maynooth. Martin kept his head firmly in the sand and ignored all. He only became active on Maynooth matters when he learned that a former seminarian was about to make a Garda complaint affecting the seminary in his Archdiocese - 11 years after he took over in Dublin. He was a late gestation.
Thank you for this analysis. We need good weighty intellectual comments like this.
DeleteDepressing that you couldn't care less about a person's sexual orientation. Fine on civvy street, but the Church has said that homosexual men are unsuitable for the priesthood. Going for it and being accepted by bishops therefore is a kind of fraud. Preaching for this church, as a gay man, is of course, hypocrisy. Very disappointing. Rest of what you say makes sense. But this waiving away of gay priests as a non-issue is only contributing to undermining the church. The people know the priesthood is populated by frauds and liars.
DeleteNo, the 'Church' has not taught what you said: Popes Benedict and Francis teach this, but they are not the Church. Nor are they supported in this by all the bishops.
DeleteThe opinion (and it is only opinion, not an exercise of the extraordinary magisterium) that gay men are incapable of relating properly to people is completely without scientific authority and was, on the part of Benedict, a 'knee-jerk' reaction to the ongoing scandal of clerical sex abuse, which, it must be said, he facilitated and enabled for many years.
While Diarmuid has been cosying up to the media most successfully in recent years as a liberal hero, he had meanwhile been overseeing a number of out of court settlements with binding non-disclosure agreements with various persons - including at least one Staff member of the Archdiocese - who raised various complaints with him in writing. At least one such settlement and non-disclosure agreement occurred in St. Mary's pro-Cathedral recently where "Deacon" Byrne was a very regular visitor. What is there to hide that warrants hush money being paid out, Diarmuid? Why not be as open with your complaints as you were when you handed over Archbishop Desmond Connell's records? What has changed since then to warrant hush money? A number of Dublin diocese priests have also raised complaints with Diarmuiddy about St. Mary's pro-Cathedral and the one thing they all have in common is that they never got any reply from Diarmuiddy either verbally or in writing. No reply whatever to letters of complaint and/or to verbal complaints made to him face to face. It must surely be completely extraordinary in this day and age that a leader of an archdiocese does not reply to complaints in any manner whatever. How does this sit with his liberal media profile? With the best and most merciful character in christendom, how could he not act to clean up the "Deacon" Byrne growing scandal last summer to lance that boil once and for all? How has it lasted into 2017 with all the warnings emanating from various quarters, most notably your own, Pat? How has he failed to act with so much photographic and other evidence of at the very least SCANDAL to the diocese? Priests are asking - lay servants of the diocese are asking. Only Diarmuid can answer but he's on tour at the moment for ten days and the passage of ten days will quieten a lot of scandal.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You raise a number of very important points. Your comment helps us to look at very important aspects of the current Dublin crisis.
DeleteHow is it that the new Archbishop of Armagh can discover that so many recent priestly ordinations have crashed and burned after Maynooth and yet continues in total denial that anything is rotten in the state of Maynooth, and all this without seeking to enquire of the many totally straight candidates who were cast out as to what was going wrong from their points of view? Has research and enquiry and learning therefrom suddenly been devalued in the Church? Is there nothing to learn from the pattern of failures emanating from Maynooth, both of the ordained and of the cast out? Does the pattern not deserve enquiry? Why pretend that there is no relation between these crashes? There are other crashes as well, just not yet in the news, and many of these were close comrades of the named gentlemen during their 7 years of formation in Maynooth. Charity as yet forbids comment on these. Meanwhile, as the Titanic begins to sunder Captain Amy is demanding that the bosun enquire about flaming language from below decks. Amy, do you not realise that the entire Irish church is sundering? Do you drink coffee? Would you ever give over your humiliating selfies and smell it please.
ReplyDeleteI expect so little.
Amy is a lightweight. And to think that he will be in Armagh for 20 more years.
DeleteAnother actor acting a role.
He thinks being Archbishop of Armagh is all about HIM.
The Archbishop is too young for Byrne.
ReplyDeleteAt 71 he is surely mid range?
DeleteA very good account of the dreadful state of play with this toxic deacon at the heart of it. I have known D Martin for years and he is not Gay, nor is he (nor has he been) sexually active with anyone - male or female - in his priestly life. He is a good man, trying to do the right thing. The problem is he is manipulated by Byrne, manipulated and bullied. Byrne is a shrewd and clever operator, street wise, as we used to say. He has been fending for himself since his earliest years and has learned all the skills of a survivor of the streets. I have no doubt he resorts to every trick he can think of to save himself; threats; bullying; seduction; sex; tears; admissions of low self esteem, threats of self harm and suicide. The fact of the matter is he in unsuitable for priestly ministry (as if the priesthood hadn't enough problems!). He needs to be quietly jettisoned when the dust settles. I have no doubt he will. D Martin needs to step aside from this process and hand this case over to panel of experts both lay and clerical to discuss Byrnes future. To be sure Byrne may squeal like a pig having his throat cut, and name names. If that happens, so be it, and some senior priests who have, lets say, enjoyed his company, may well have to go as well. But better that than the disasters that lie ahead should this street wise kid be ordained a priest. Do what is right, come hell or high water, and God will give you the upper hand - as my old granny used to say. Senior Priest Dublin Diocese.
ReplyDeleteI am very grateful for your excellent contribution.
DeleteWe need the priests of Dublin involved in these issues.
Can you speak to DM directly and bring some realisation to him of how serious things are?
Also, we would like to hear more from you.
D. Martin is bullied by no one Fr. Brendan Kealy (cough cough) I mean senior dublin priest.
DeleteSurely Fr Brendan Kealy is a recently ordained priest - hardly "senior"?
DeleteHe would see himself as senior because he is a new PP and he is senior because of his age and arrogance. It is him alright!
DeletePat - you seem to know of Fr. Brendan Kealy. Do you care to elaborate?
DeleteI know of him. I have never met him or spoke to him.
DeleteYou forgot to mention that Dermo likes all things Roman, and as archbishop has lots of property. I do believe his biggest mistake was sending this Deacon to Rome (roam). When in Rome....that is the compromise.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Dermo could gift Clonliffe to the homeless. CC
G could bring D down but could D get G up!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly been in a room alone with him once to answer questions. Surely he did some interviewing before sending him to Maynooth... Not everything can be deligated... The recruitment of seminarians is as much an issue as everything else.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it is entirely possible that DM is compromised because MB has information on DM with a third party with which to blackmail DM.
What is it that makes DM so silly in his decision making with MB??? For an experienced diplomat with years of experience this is all suspect. Never before has a bishop left himself so vulnerable in recent times. But why???
Pat,
ReplyDeleteEnough is enough leave the young guy alone now. It has been your mission to go after and harass this young man for months now. To me and some others it looks like you are obsessed with him. It would seem from the comments section that many other (seminarians?) are obsessed with him too. Any story that it given through mainly anonymous sourses you use. That is unfair and unjust!
We do not know how honest Michael has been, so we should not judge him so harshly for things he may or may have not done. People in the comments section seem to jump to blackmail and scaremongering as the only reason why Michael has not been booted out but what if he told the truth all along? It would seem he has been very honest acknowledging his sexuality from a young age. To then be so open with the Catholic Church shows bravery in my opinion. The guy might have a past but he has balls!
If you told your bishop about your sexuality Pat you would have been shown the door!!! Priests of our generation Pat never addressed these questions out of fear. This to me shows a changing Church and that is a positive change for the better. I can see why someone like Michael would get so much attention/unwanted attention. We are all sinners and we have all made mistakes and I am sure Michael has too. He is a human being like the rest of us and deserves a chance of love, mercy and compassion.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. (Matt 9:13)
I can assure you I am not obsessed with him.
DeleteHowever I am VERY CONCERNED about the situation he has brought about whereby even Diarmuid Martin's integrity is now being questioned.
Yes he has balls.
And his balls are at the heart of the problem.
D. Martin would only stand behind the truth. He would never put his neck on the line. He trusts MB because MB has always been honest with him. It is easier to stand behind the truth than to stand behind lies. D. Martin protects MB because he knows what is being done to him is unjust!
DeleteI have a question Pat
DeleteDoes Michael deserve justice if this is all untrue?
Will you give him justice if this has been a big ploy by QUEENY seminarians who hate and are jealous of him?
And what about the grave injustice done to the man highlighted by Saturday's Irish Independent?
DeleteDM has the full story and all the details.
No, there is a LOT MORE going on than you try and suggest.
And, whatever it takes, it WILL OUT .....no matter how many mis / dis informers like yourself try and cover it up.
The tangled ball of wool has begun to unwind.
Michael Byrne is welcome to publish his full account of all these matters on this blog at any time.
DeleteLast summer I offered to drive the 125 miles to Dublin to hear his account.
He deflected me and told me lies about his trip to Barcelona.
But I will still meet him and hear his story and publish his account of it.
So Michael - what about it?
10.01, 10.17 and 10.24 all comments in quick succession and all on the same theme - good morning M Byrne or a member of your fan club. We are not taken in by your diversion tactics and your dubious comments.
DeleteBiddy
Michael is not answerable to you Pat Buckley or this stupid blog! He is answerable to his conscience, his bishop and God.
DeletePeace
I have only began to read Pats outings of late and I have to say my own experiences of late with D&C he's right to do what he is doing.
DeleteOf course I may say that the sexuality content seems to be in the fore front but in many ways it should be. All the other deadly sins are hidden in there too, if Pat was to focus on money issues sex would crop up.
If Gaynooth needs to be addressed it needs to be addressed for the faithful. That the Church recieves pastors of whatever sexuality that are there to tend to their spiritual needs and not the selfish desires of this earthly domain.
The statement I have come to serve not be served, if the aspect of serving in any vocation is lost it's better to turn out the lights lock the doors and get the faithful to walk the hedgerows for a place to worship in.
I am known by BIG HANK to some
10:52
DeleteAnd we know he has a bishop and a god..........
What have you achieved in all this? Nothing really? Everyone and everything very much the same Pat.
ReplyDeleteYou must realise that a kettle takes time to boil.
DeletePatience. The kettle is coming to the boil.
There are reports that Conan is now working in a gay bar in London? Is this true?
ReplyDeleteThat chap has returned to a life as a private citizen. Clerics are public figures, Conan is not. Where he works is nobody's business.
DeleteNot true @10:58. You are confusing him with a different ex-seminarian.
DeleteNo, the 'reports' are not true.
DeleteA gay sauna then?
Delete10:58
ReplyDeleteIf it true good for him!
There are a few people on here deliberately trying to deflect from the topic of the blog. They are using other people's names whilst at the same time trying to defend MB. It becomes trying and annoying.
ReplyDeleteThey will not succeed.
DeleteOur topic today is:
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GORGEOUS AND DERMO.
Still this is also interesting: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/priests-house-at-belfast-cathedral-recommended-for-historical-listing-35369397.html
DeletePerhaps one day it will bear one of those blue plaques memorializing its most famous resiident:-)
Me :-)
DeletePlease check out ACCWA ireland videos on youtube. Some very interesting videos. Or search Maynooth Scandal and you will see all the videos
ReplyDeleteIs it true that Michael Byrne is the only candidate for ordination this year for Dublin? Could be the reason that DM is loathe to let him go.Not a good reason in my opinion. Better no priest than an unsuitable one. And I am being kind.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The devil is at work here. So many people going for the priesthood when they havent the notion of being a priest represents. The church is going through a crisis where all priests are tarred with the same brush. Nothing has been done about it.
DeleteSTOP PRESS: I understand that Deacon Byrne is to be suspended from ministry pending a full enquiry and will be returning to Dublin in the next few days.(So informed speculation from the Irish College have just told me.)
ReplyDeleteIs this the same Deacon Byrne that had attempted suicide at the weekend and is being accused of assaulting an older man recently?
DeletePat, have the lads asked you to look after the shop while they are in Rome fibbin' to the Vatican? Is Timbo with them, as a dry run for when he goes there as an archbishop? Hope the curia doesn't snap him up.
ReplyDeleteAt a time of priest shortages, it's a scandal to have four or five priests looking after the 10 or so Irish seminarians in the English college. The bishops keep it going as it's a congenial b&b for their Roman jaunts.
ReplyDeleteI did of course mean the Irish college. Perhaps it could merge with the Venereal and they be renamed the Venereal Anglo-Irish College?
DeleteIt's true what they say "The Devil is in the detail"
ReplyDeleteHe's been in ministry?! I thought he was just studying!
ReplyDeleteLets wait and see if these reporrs about Gorgeous' suspension are true.
DeleteThe deacon is in Holy Orders as he has been ordained to the diaconate and as such is in the Ministry of Orders. It is correct to speak of him being suspended from ministry; i.e. that he will not be permitted to exercise his diaconal ministry (Preaching and Assisting at the Altar during Holy Mass) while suspended, pending the outcome of the enquiry. Remember you heard it here first.
ReplyDeleteIf such an enquiry is established I would be happy to present all I know and have to it.
DeleteAnd I'm sure that His Grace would - in the interests of truth - be happy for you to present all that you know about this issue...I'm sure he wants to get to the bottom of it all as quickly as possible!
DeleteStand by for his call, Pat!
I think getting to the "bottom" was what got Deacon Byrne and others into this mess!!!
DeleteHow do you use the donate button? I am trying to donate my piss to you but it will not go through
ReplyDeleteLol
I'm afraid that Paypal do not take urine or faeces
DeleteI suggest that you find a local bishop or priest whose sexual interests are in "white and brown" and give it to them.
Maynooth Grindrs' Association accepts sperm donations.
DeleteThank you Bishop Pat. That message will be passed on.
ReplyDeleteWhat annoys me about clerical culture is that priests will bitch and gossip viciously about their bishops behind their back but when they meet them they will be fawning obsequiously and 'batting their eyelashes' at them like a madam in a saloon. Why can't they voice their grievances man to man and say what they really think? Some priests have no integrity. They are kept men who really fear their privileges will be withdrawn if they speak the truth to power. This excessive clerical submission is unhealthy.Still too much deference. It makes schoolboys out of grown men.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteFor over 30 years now I have been in the position of telling these guys the truth to their faces.
Re that pic of Amy in the Irish College yesterday on today's blog. Isn't that Paul Finnerty from Limerick holding the gospel. He used to be a hairdresser. Maybe he might style Amy?
ReplyDeleteWHere is the Association of Priests in all this? What's its view? Its vocal about everything - women priests, censured priests and God knows what else. Thought it was very odd that it had nothing to say about the Gay scandal in Maynooth last autumn. Were they afraid that priests on promiscuous sites might be next? Thought it odd they had nothing to say
ReplyDeleteThey came out in favor of Maynooth. I know! I know! we were all abit surprised too
DeleteBrendan Hoban one of the founders went on radio to defend Maynooth saying that Cardinal Sean O Malley had given it a clean bill of health after his inspection while the Irish college in Rome had failed and the staff were dismissed !! He couldn't understand why DM had sent his students to Rome as a result.
DeleteMany of their members are shacked up with the "housekeeper" so they keep quiet!
DeleteGood point.
Delete"Many?" Really? Is that a scientific, an anecdotal or just a plain prejudiced contribution?
DeleteThe story goes round and round characters rise to the top from time to time. Reminds me of a more aggressive version of Dallas perhaps we could call it Churchfork...? I believe we need to remove the current characters and analyse the origination from the ground up. This will show the follies without the actual names and faces-a scientific exercise for what it is worth. That being done what the fek are these buggers doing or be made to to clean up their act
ReplyDeletePat, Can you please ask DM to make a statement regarding this situation. We have a right to know if a cleric has been asked to step aside from ministry!
ReplyDeleteDone.
DeleteThe ACP couldn't care less about all of this. After all, last summer the acp made a statement re. Maynooth which said that "the damage this controversy will do to Maynooth is not in the best interest of the Irish Church". This was after many decent Catholics, both on this blog and elsewhere, were horrified by the revelations from Maynooth and were calling for it to be shut down altogether. But the acp felt that the attention - finding out the truth in other words - that Maynooth was getting was not in the best interests of the Church! For all we read here from some contributors about clericalism, this response from the acp is surely clericalism of the worst sort - like bishops during the abuse scandal, they'd be happy to see all of this swept under the carpet.
ReplyDeleteAnother point, as you say Anon.18:27, is that the acp are very pro women priests, women deacons, married priests, laicised priests returning to ministry etc. etc. Solving the Maynooth issues which would only have a positive effect on priestly vocations would weaken their agenda! Therefore I highly doubt we'll hear much from them.
@19:38 you miss the point. Hypothetically speaking, if Maynooth problem was solved and active gay and promiscuous seminarians were turfed out on their ears, there'd be very few seminarians left. Therefore it would surely suit the ACP's cause for married clergy etc to fill the gap
DeleteYou are correct, Anon.20:05 - but only in the short term. My point was that if Maynooth were cleaned up, then the men - and I know many - who will not join the priesthood in Ireland while Maynooth is as it is would be more willing to come forward. We have to remember that there is no vocations crisis - what many call a "vocations crisis" or "vocations shortage" is largely down to the seminary. We cannot expect men who are genuinely called to the priesthood and who wish to serve Christ and his people faithfully to enter a seminary for six years where heterodoxy is rife, where authentic Catholic spirituality is shunned, where a blind eye is turned to sexually active seminarians, where good seminarians are shown the door. My point was that if this were fixed, I have no doubt that there would be an increase in numbers - hence it does not suit the ACP to act.
DeleteThe way you voice your opinion here is the tired old way you use any stick to beat Maynooth with. It is rather tedious.
DeletePat- keep a focus on DMs "stay" in Rome
ReplyDeletePat, ask him for a statement or a forum for his resignation
ReplyDeleteI already have.
DeleteSort the lad out and give him a parish
ReplyDeleteCreate a forum for his resignation. This peacock has roosted too long. out out out
ReplyDeleteJust to be clear on this
ReplyDeleteThe Association of Priests haven’t commented on this. They sided with Maynooth last autumn and quoted the
Nothing from The Irish Times or Patsy McGarry? Might this because he’s getting no quotes from Archbishops house or Dublin diocese this time around? Last time it was all along the lines of ‘Dublin withdrawing from Maynooth and sending its students to Rome’. Dublin priests are always quick to give Patsy a quote. Where are they now?
Nothing from Liberal priests who can’t be kept off the radio ordinarily.
Is it because they don’t want media attention drawn on priests who use Grindr or Saunas or public parks for promiscuous sex?
To be clear. Nothing wrong with gay priests. Plenty wrong with gay priests who act on it. The Pope says so, the Archbishop says so, most of the observant faithful would say so. So until the rules are changed out out out. And this codswallop about forgiveness – by all means forgive … but rules are rules for promiscuous individuals.
Pat i think you need to contact the Irish college and Arch Bishop Martin and ask for an immediate statement - we need to know whats the going down. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS NOW.
ReplyDeleteDone.
DeletePAT are all the bishops staying at the irish college or can it fit them all?
ReplyDeleteSome stay there and some in other places.
Delete“Here at the tomb of Saint Peter, let us pray in a special way to strengthen our brother priests in Ireland. Their ministry and well-being is dear to all of us. We are aware that their smaller numbers, increased workload and ever more
ReplyDeletechallenging pastoral situations has taken its toll on them. We thank God today for their resilience dedication, and generosity, and for the kindness and support offered to them, and us, by our people and religious” – Archbishop Eamon Martin
Background
Today the Bishops of Ireland begin their ten-day Ad Limina visit to meet with Pope Francis and senior officials of the Holy See. Ahead of their meetings, the bishops will concelebrate Mass this morning at the tomb of Saint Peter in Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome. The Principal Celebrant for this Mass is Archbishop Eamon Martin and please see his homily below:
Homily
My dear brother bishops we have arrived at the goal of our pilgrimage “ad limina apostolorum”. Here at the tomb of Saint Peter and surrounded by the tombs of the successors of Peter, there is no better place to enter into a prayer of communion with the one, holy Catholic and apostolic Church.
All TALK and NO ACTION Amy.
DeleteDo you readers support a motion of NO CONFIDENCE in Diarmuid Martin?
ReplyDeleteWho is responsible for the deacons formation now? Maynooth or Irish College? What about the President of the Irish College? Is it not he as well as DM who the ire should be directed at?
ReplyDeleteThe Irish College.
DeleteIt was said yesterday on the blog that Maynooth wanted to dismiss Byrne but Diarmuid Martin overruled them ???
Pat you are being led down the wrong path with DM overruling Maynooth on MB.
DeleteI assure you again that MB was the main snitch and bitch in St Pats.
If he goes down, I am sure he will be spilling all the beans on what is really going on in Maynooth. Y
You seem obsessed to implicate DM in all this when I think he is innocent.
Ok, that may be?
DeleteI NO NOT want to discover DM is compromised. I want him not to be. He is the only Irish bishop I spesk to.
But can you explain why he is protecting Byrne?
I hope Byrne does tell the truth not only about himself but about Maynooth etc.
I'm beginning to think that we should begin calling the Irish Bishops THE SUCCESSORS OF THE APOSTATES"?
ReplyDeleteMgr Ciaran O’Carroll is Rector or President of the Irish College in Rome. Fr Paul Finnerty is Vice Rector . Fr Hugh Clifford is director of formation. Have these failed the faithful or failed the archbishop or failed the deacon? Oh and Ciaran O’Carroll is Dublin Diocese.
ReplyDeleteMicky Byrne has some can of worms to open and release on the cloisters of Gaynooth. All will be revealed.
ReplyDeleteThats why they will have to ordain him or pay him BIG MONEY.
DeleteHe has them all by the short and curlies !!!
As some commentators have already said here Pat poor old DM is told a barrel of lies by Maynooth and Byrne. MB can be very convincing as all manipulators and professional liars like him can be. I can't believe that DM is willfully protecting him because he is compromised. More like he is trying to get to the truth of things before taking action.
ReplyDeleteWatch out for sparks between the SC in Maynooth. It is all going to come out when MB gets the boot. The starting shots have been fired already.
I really hope you are right. DM is the only Irish bishop I like.
DeleteTrust DM's judgment Pat! If he protects MB it could be that he has always told the truth to him.
DeleteDM is a man of justice and he does not make rash cold decisions. Unlike Amy Martin!!!
I KNOW that Byrne has not told the truth to DM.
DeleteWe need DM to show us we can trust him.
I don't know, Pat...It could well be the case as Anon21:10 has said that MB can be very convincing - I think you know that yourself. So, yes it's not inconceivable that he could have DM wrapped around his finger and that DM has just been taken advantage of. However, the story of the past week is not the first one regarding MB or Dublin diocese. There were revelations about MB last summer, not to mention Fr Derwin - and it doesn't appear that DM really took any action. A bishop has to be shrewd and astute in his judgements - as the saying goes, Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. MB appears to have fooled DM more than once, which is why I'd still be wary of DM - as you say, we need DM to show us that we can trust him.
DeleteAh yes Joey the bush kangaroo or 'the snake in the grass' as i heard someone refer to him one day I was walking up the stairs to Top Loftus.
DeleteHe was among us for a year in the seminary. Think he did a Higher Dip in Philosophy. My estimation of him is that he tended to intrude and impose himself where quite frankly his assistance wasn't needed.
He often appears as an 'altar server' at State funerals or the IEC back a number of years ago. He likes to be seen. gives off an air of extreme piety but I fear it is very much pretense. My heart genuinely sank to the ground upon hearing his appointment to Archbishop Martin.
I think the character assassinations we have seen over the past couple of days (obviously carried out by seminarians) really does illustrate that on at least one thing DM was right - Maynooth is no place to send seminarians. He said an earlier time that the calibre of men coming forward was very low; with some exceptions, he was also astute on that.
ReplyDelete@21:20 illustrates the incompetence of Vocation Directors you mean
DeleteAny inside gossip of their lordships Rome visit yet?
ReplyDeleteWasn't DM's lay secretary in Maynooth recently enough? Can he not see through the lies for DM?
ReplyDeleteoh dont even go there. Ive already given pat info in relation to something iffy there.
Deletea right fucking pig and a bully if there ever was one. I remember him from the Killala Diocese. MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteAnd Pat had it investigated by a major figure in the Irish Church who said it was unfounded ???
Delete@21:49 do expand? Surely he has DM's ear. Would he not be able to fill DM in on Maynooth and its machinations. It's just someone said a while ago that DM is being fooled. Surely his secretary can set him straight?
Deletehow i would love to say more on this but I cant as i need my job :(
DeleteSay more in confidence to bishopbuckley1@outlook.com
DeleteWhat are the names of the other Dublin seminarians? (I believe a number of last year's students did not return in September...).
ReplyDeleteSeems to me everyone mentioned has a skeleton. This blog is beginning to be as depressing as Talk to Joe.
ReplyDeletethe misery, the torture, the depression. just the way Joe Duffy likes it
DeleteHey Folks. Stay positive. We are in the process of rebuilding.
DeleteFeckingbishops, why should PPs Or otherwise ts be afraid of them
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the big stick and floral vestments and skull cap
Ffs why did pat have to go to all theses lengths to get those bedhoppers Dismissed
Surely R Coyle was the eye opener
Get a grip brady and go and hide, u started all this disgusting behaviour shoeing such disregard for young boys
You need to flatten b4 you build Pat xx
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more.
DeleteWe are at the ball and chain stage.
I know lots of young married men suitable for ordination
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sure young gay men could stay faithful to one partner if they really tried and be suitable for ordination too
I don't believe in all this sleeping and sexing around
Too much handy money is causing promiscuous behaviour
Please stop funding these layabouts and bishops holidaying in Rome
and elsewhere
There are good straight and gay men of all ages available for priesthood.
DeleteIts the manipulators of all ages and hues we need to challenge.
A priest could say the odd mass after his day job
ReplyDeleteAnd talke a day off to bury, just like one has to do if sitting on a jury
We could have at least a dozen priests to every parish
Just look how the public take their GAA responsibilities
I know , I see this every day and the kids can get up early on a sat to go footballing and dancing and music
We don't need spongers Looking for Sunday envelopes
...and a couple of Extreme Unctions on the way back from the pub? Get real. The model proposed for all priests in the Year of the Priest was St. John Vianney who lived off half rotten potatoes, slept on the floor, spend dozens of hours a week hearing confessions and died of exhaustion. Cardinals, bishops and royalty sought his spiritual advice and miracles abounded around him. That's the model not some fella who is a fairly nice chap and can fit a Mass or two in his working week.
DeleteWho's up for this exorcism lads? C'mon you can't all be washing your hair tonight.
Delete'That's the model'? Vianney's self-deprecation? Vianney went to an extraordinary extreme in self-denial. Even he, when asked, admitted that he had overdone the fasting bit.
DeleteI find it mind-bending that this parish priest's lifestyle should be presented as exemplary, when, in fact, it was actually physically and psychologically harmful.
and the problem is that Grindr isn't included in the St John Vianney model. They might be glad of the married men on their way back from the pub yet
ReplyDeleteI think A lot of these hermits were actually nut cases
ReplyDeleteWhy did he need to eat a half rotten potatoe, was it famine time
Growing up on a farm I never saw any rotten potatoes
Most young married men that work DO NOT go to the pub
Most have equal responsibilities with their wives
What centurary Are you living in ? ?
I witnessed the sacrament of the sick thousands of times, many were carried out in the space of 2 minutes..many a tale I could tell, with a reek of drink coming from the priest.
Do try and keep up with the 21st centurary
and the modern day so called priest
There won't be enough ordinations for the foreseeable future
ReplyDeleteSo yes the young sincere married man will be needed
Didn't mention anything about a nice chap.
Anyways I don't believe in needing extreme unctions
ReplyDeleteIt's how one lives his/ her life that God will see
Not if he/she had a special sacrament
Get real, no need for frills
Nt
Not forgetting that young women are equally entitled to become priests.
ReplyDeleteThose robed bishops need de robed and a few rotten potatoes thrown at them every so often
Very sad to read that the young man at the centre of these allegations has attempted suicide. And we don't know how the alleged victim is coping right now. Both of these men are victims of internalised homophobia
