FATHER CHRIS DERWIN

FATHER CHRIS DERWIN AND NOVEMBER BURGLARY / KIDNAP

THE search is on for a masked raider who threatened and robbed a Tallaght priest at knifepoint, before frighteningly forcing the priest to drive him and the stolen goods away from the scene.

The traumatic event happened last Thursday, November 24, when a masked man entered the parochial house in Springfield and threatened and robbed Father Chris Derwin – who is a new priest to the parish of St Mark’s.

Springfild Priests House 01 December 2016

The Echo understands that a number of parishioners were in the house at the time of the violent raid, which saw Father Chris threatened at knifepoint and forced to hand over his television and a number of personal items, such as his wallet, phone, watch and music player.

Father Chris was then forced against his will to get into his own car and drive the raider and the stolen items away from the scene in Maplewood, Springfield, to Kilmartin in Fettercairn – where the raider got out of the car with the stolen items and fled on foot.

A senior Garda source told The Echo: “The priest was inside the house with other people when a masked man entered the home through the back door.

“The raider was armed with a knife and threatened violence if those present did not do what he said, forcing the priest to hand over his television and a number of personal effects.

“He then forced the priest out to his car with the television and made him drive from Maplewood to Kilmartin, where the raider got out of the car and legged it into the darkness.”

The source added: “The priest was not physically injured but this was a very traumatic and frightening event . . . one which is not very common. It’s not often that a criminal will get a victim to give them a lift away from the scene.

“We are asking anybody who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Springfield or Fettercairn areas between 10pm and 11pm last Thursday, November 24, to get in touch.

“We are looking for a single male with a local Dublin accent. We don’t have any more of a description as his face was covered.

“We have carried out a number of interviews and are currently examining CCTV, but anybody with information is encouraged to contact Tallaght Garda Station.”

The community of Springfield has been left shocked after the incident, with its members this week rallying around and offering support to Father Chris.

Tallaght Fianna Fáil councillor, and Springfield resident, Charlie O’Connor said: “I’m personally shocked over this incident and I think my shock reflects the view of the entire community.

“Father Chris is a young priest in a new parish and this is an appalling way to introduce him to the community.

“I have spoken with Father Chris and he is dealing with it well and is being supported by the community.”

He added: “This incident is not a reflection of Springfield or of Tallaght and I would urge anybody who has any information to come forward and co-operate with gardaí.”

The Dublin diocese told The Echo that they are aware of a reported incident in Tallaght.

However, due to ongoing investigations they were not in a position to comment at this time.

PAT SAYS;

Remember Fr Chris Derwin from Balbriggan + security cameras etc ???

He moved to Tallaght and a young man burgled his house !!!

What was it lady Bracknell said about TWO MISFORTUNES ?

To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.’

Can we paraphrase:

"TO HAVE A PROBLEM IN ONE PARISH FATHER DERWIN MAY BE REGARDED AS A MISFORTUNE;

TO HAVE PROBLEMS IN TWO LOOKS LIKE CARELESSNESS!!!!!

  2. Was it stated on this blog that this priest was on Grindr before? Was there a scandal concerning him or not? If he is now in Tallaght does this not suggest that the Archbishop will in fact ordain the other Deacon who was in the Newspapers some weeks ago? So basically Archbishop Martin is like the former Governor of the Central Bank during the Boom? Or perhaps not quite, at least that gentleman is no longer in the role. You know what? i don't blame these young priests. Let them ride or look for whatever promiscuous sex they want, who would blame them if they get away with it. What must happen for this archbishop to take action? Has he to be in bed with them smelling the sheets for evidence or what the XXXX is wrong with him? It's the Archbishop MUST GO!!!

  3. Hi Pat even those who are officially excommunicated are entitled to be given ashes. So surely the ranting bishop of last week should have it in his episcopal heart to daub your brow. Or gp down the street to +Noel and surely he must.

If not I'll daub you myself as I'm allowed to do this without restrictions. After all its not only the Romans who celebrate Ash Wednesday.

By the way my pancakes were yummy

  5. Father Derwin was a visitor to King Puck at Christmas during his current placement in Listowel Parish. It seems a blind eye is being turned in that part of Keery to certain comings and goings, Derwin hasn't been the only young male visitor to Puck.

    1. what? the deacon cant have male friends? GROW UP! if you have any legitimate concerns google the number and address of the bishop of kerry!!!

    2. We know all about his particular male friends and they are not just any male friends chum. What's more the Bishop of Kerry and the PP in Listowel have both been written to about concerns, their answer and reply - absolutely nothing. Total secrecy and hush hush yet again. Is anyone surprised? The only way they sit up and take note is when someone like Coyle gets carried away and appears in the media as a result. The powers that be sit up and only listen then but by then it's too late and the damage has been done.

    3. Can you explain what you mean by damage?

  6. So Fr Derwin was moved parish by Diarmuid Martin and the move wasn't publicised! Why the secrecy? What else are they hiding from us?

    1. @10.07. Their were many moves that were not publicized. All secrecy because if they were made public, the dirt would be revealed on them all. Be wear of AB Diarmuid Martin, a true sneak to cover his own ass as he wants a red hat to retire in Rome in 3 yrs.

    2. Marie Collins has just resigned from the commission on safeguarding in Rome. She said she could not stay and keep her integrity. Anyone who has worked for the church know how underhand and devious it is in it's dealings with people. I would love to have your naivety,..... But with me that went a long time ago.

  12. Curiouser and curiouser. Fr Chris Derwin is listed as a curate in the parishes of Springfied, Brookfield and Jobstown in the list of priests in the Dublin archdiocese website. Unusually, no phone number is given. Yet, when you look at the three parishes on the very same website he is nowhere to be seen. Odd.

  13. Derwin is certainly being hidden away. He has been down round Kerry a few times but doesn't seem to have a specific Parish. D Martin refuses to publish any Clergy moves, some are having serious doubts about his management of this whole sorry state of affairs. Derwin was in Balbriggan, Tallaght and now where?? All in the space of a very short time after Ordination, is this going to be the future pattern then of people being ordained soon for Dublin?

    1. Will we soon see Fathers Gorgeous and Puck disappearing from parish to parish and then into a Clerical Limbo?

Those of us who thought the RC Church had done away with Limbo must now think it lies somewhere between Balbriggan and the borders of Wexford and in parts of Kerry.

  14. Why do they keep ordaining fellas who have no intention of abiding by the rules
Of course I don't agree with the rules, but until a change is made
    Just stop the ordinations
Why don't Martin and Martin clear off they have no idea how to run a religious faith
Pat keep publishing all theses goings on

What's your problem. We all have to live our faith every day, not just Ash Wednesday.
I don't see any bile being spied today, just all about our so called priests....supposed servants of the Lord for the people
If you so pious why are you reading here today, shouldn't you be praying on your knees somewhere

  20. I'm surprised Marie lasted/stayed so long on that Commission in Rome. She probably got weary swimming against the tide of intransigence, hypocrisy and indifference within the Curia. What has D Martin got to say on this matter or will he continue with his silence on all matters important. What will the Primate of All Ireland say on the issue, I suspect sweet F* as per usual. Total faceless and spineless leaders.

  21. The Archbishop was going around like Louis Walsh promoting Marie Collins like Walsh would a boyband. He couldn't do enough for her. Every second word was Marie this or Marie that. The next thing you know, Pope Francis appoints Marie Collins to the Papal Commission. In other words, Marie got the job Archbishop thought he was going to get. Alot of Dublin priests pissed themselves laughing at the time. Poor Diarmuid.

  23. Dear Pat, Would you not consider writing to His Eminence, Beniamino Cardinal Stella, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy. It deals with Priests, Deacons and Clergy. Would you not consider listing the various (factual) findings and names and list the bishops and dioceses. Would you not consider asking you sources in the media to contact the Congregation also to get a statement from the congregation. Lots of bishops here appear to be turning a blind eye to the Pope's teaching and to the law of the church. The Pope's teaching appears to be that gay priests are fine once their not physically acting on impulses or being promiscuous. Presumably Canon law is totally against it. We don't hear much from the canon lawyers on this page concerning whether it is right or wrong to be promiscuous. Please consider writing to the Congregation with a list of names (containing fact and not hypotheses).

  24. Gorgeous is really keeping a very low profile. it's typical of the clergy in ireland. Stick your head into the sand and everyone will have forgotten about it and we'll ordain you and send you to a knacker parish where they don't read the Indo and nobody will know

  26. Latest from Rome: There is a photograph to accompany this on the Irish College's website. Looks like Dublin will have a proper deacon in a couple of months. Three seminarians of the Pontifical Irish College, Rome, were admitted to Candidacy for ordination to Diaconate and Priesthood by Cardinal James Harvey, Archpriest of the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, at a Mass in the College Chapel on 22nd February 2017. The new Candidates are Mr James Daly and Mr Robert Smyth of the Archdiocese of Dublin and Mr Seán Mulligan of the Diocese of Clogher. The three Candidates will be ordained to the Diaconate by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin on Easter Tuesday, 18th April 2017.

  29. There are definitely questions to be answered about Diarmuid Martin and his modus operandi.
He does indeed seem to have a penchant for errant gay clergy and has been protective of them. This goes beyond pastoral car since he doesn't give a fig about his priests. He will show up at priests funerals having pumped a few of the mans friends for info and with crocodile tears extol the dead mans virtues as though he knew him or cared. His theatrical kissing of the coffin has reportedly caused men to add a codicil to their will directing that they be face down in the coffin! He is a slimy eel not to be trusted.
