I traveled 300 miles to Waterford yesterday to attend the Funeral Mass of my old friend and college professor MONSIGNOR SHINE.
AND for the first time in 30 years I was REFUSED HOLY COMMUNION by the RC bishop of Waterford FONSEY CULLINAN.
RAVING FONSEY |
A number of Waterford priests have already sent messages of apology to me for their bishop becoming so aggressive on the sanctuary. As one said:
"His eyes and face were black with anger"
Later several members of the congregation apologised to me in the graveyard.
As one elderly said to me: "With all the scandals bishops and priests have imposed upon us poor laity how Cullinan had the nerve to you refuse communion is beyond me". The mind boggles".
FONSEY is an arch conservative and a follower of THE RIGHT WING CATHOLIC CULT - OPUS DEI.
Fonesy even failed to offer Monsignor Shine's family the Sign of Peace in case he would have to offer it to me sitting beside the family !!!
He also headed in my direction at communion time instead of giving communion to the bereaved family? ??
I think his attack on me was premeditated!
His anger so exhausted him he needed a glass of water!!"
Fonsey & Co have not refused communion to all the priests who have sexually abused children!
THEY GAVE SMYTH HOLY COMMUNION EVERYDAY AND A PRIESTS FUNERAL! |
Fonsey and Co have never refused communion to all the priests who have raped woman and priests and fathered children!
Fonsey & Co have not refused communion to Cardinal Keith O'Brien who tried to sexually seduce seminarians and priests in Confession!
Fonsey and Co have never refused communion to the nuns who buried 700 babies in a sewerage tank in Galway!
Fonsey and Co have never refused communion to the priests who have stolen millions from the church!
Fonsey & Co have never refused communion to the Maynooth seminarians who are practising oral and anal sex in the seminary!
But they have refused communion to me BECAUSE I AM HIGHLIGHTING ABSOLUTE THEIR CORRUPTION AND CHALLENGING THEIR ABUSIVE POWER.
FONSEY MADE A SHOW OF HIMSELF YESTERDAY IN TRAMORE PARISH CHURCH!
HE CAUSED A DISGRACEFUL SCENE AT THE FUNERAL OF A 92 YEAR OLD PRIEST!
FONSEY YOU HAVE SHOWN YOU TRUE COLOURS!
MONSIGNOR JOHN SHINE
Monsignor John Shine (91) - one of my longest priest friends - died in Waterford Ireland on Saturday last. He was in his 92nd year.
He was my college professor and president and I have known him for 44 years and our friendship was totally unhindered by anything that happened in either of our lives.
I hope he is happy in Heaven.
Why don't you believe in Purgatory, Pat?
ReplyDeleteDid I say that?
DeleteShame on you Phonsie. What a hypocrite you are. Preach about Reconciliation and mercy then treat Bishop Pat the way you did. You dont have thecright to refuse any one Holy Communion. If anyone should not receive, it should be yourself for the way you treated another Bishop. Yes, I said BISHOP. BISHOP Pat will be more of a Bishop then you will ever be Phonsie. You brought shame on yourself and your Diocese yesterday. How dare you cause a scene at the Funeral of a loved and caring Priest. Your Priests and people are embarrased deeply by your actions. You are no Christian. You are not suitable to be a leader, never mind a Bishop. You obvisiously made the funeral of msgr Shine all about you. You must be a very insecure person and attention seeker who thinks your shit does not smell. Run along now to your Opus Dei clowns and resign as bishop of Waterford and Lismore. Shame shame shame on you.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair Pat, you publicly state that you are not in communion with 'the Roman Institution' as you call it. I think the bishop was right to refuse you Holy Communion.
ReplyDeleteWhat would Jesus have done?
DeleteHe wouldn't give you communion.
DeleteI am grateful this man is no longer teaching in primary schools. He made a show of himself yesterday. I'm tired of these brutes posing as bishops. All we need now is for Fr David O'Hanlon to get puce and lace if bishops dress
ReplyDeleteWas that the guy from the late late show? What ever happended him? I googled him but he doesn't show up anywhere
DeleteHe should be worried about more important things. How the diocese lost many priests in the past 20 years. Men into their eighties still acting as full time PPs. He is turning to India to fill vacancies. Hardly a thriving diocese. Throwing a strop in public is disedifying and counter productive. People don't buy that carry on anymore. Imagine any wavering catholics there yesterday. I'd venture there might be one or two people so disgusted they'll never set foot in a church again.
ReplyDeleteI did see an Indian priest there.
DeletePat while this was a deeply unpleasant and no doubt embarrassing episode for you (and by the sound of it, other mourners) why did you present yourself for communion in a Roman Church? You tell us time and again on this site that you are not a Roman Catholic, so why they would you wish to be seen to be "in communion" with the Roman Catholic Church? Its a matter of logic. It may well be painful for you to hear this Pat but I think the bishop was right to refuse you communion. You are no longer a Roman Catholic, what you have done (becoming a bishop without Papal Mandate) has resulted in the Roman Catholic Church excommunicating you (i.e., literally ex communing you from themselves, and I think its time to fully accept this and to move on with your life. Perhaps it would have been better just to present yourself for a blessing? I don't know. Whats for sure is that many will interpret this as a just another "mad publicity stunt" by Pat Buckley, and all the more egregious as it was done at the funeral of a man you called a friend. Sorry if this sounds hard, but its how it appears to me as an outside and a friend.
ReplyDeleteIs that was Jesus would say and do?
DeleteIs that was Jesus would say and do?
DeleteAsk myself the simple question would Jesus have refused you? I don't think so!
ReplyDeleteIn fairness Pat you are not in Communion with the Roman Catholic Rite. So they apply their own rules in that case.
ReplyDeleteI have been receiving communion from bishops and priests for 30 years.
DeleteIt was all about Cullinan and Opus D.
Well done to that Bishop, he prevented a sacrilege taking place. Remember Pat that you are not a Roman Catholic. He did what canon law requires him to do, preventing you committing a sin, and not sinning himself (by knowingly giving someone who is not a Roman Catholic the Eucharist)
ReplyDeleteJesus was not a Catholic.
DeleteThe first people to receive Holy Communion were ALL Jews!
Father Brendan Smyth was given Holy Communion to the end? ??
Sorry to hear about yesterday and obviously those closest to the deceased were hurt the most by this spectacle. I don't know the exact details so I can't comment on the degree of Pat's fault, if any. However, I was at a papal mass in Baku in 2002 held in a basketball hall as there were only about a 100 native Azerbaijani Catholics in the entire country. However, it did attract lots of sightseers and gawkers out for the day to see John Paul and I tagged along with one of my Turkish students and her large group of female Turkish friends, all wearing headscarves in a style that distinctly distinguished them as Muslim Turks. Indeed, the reason why they were in Azerbaijan was because they had either been expelled from Turkish universities or refused admission because the headscarf was then against national university regulations and their and/or families' strict interpretation of Islam prevented them from showing their hair outside. Anyway, communion time came and I tried to push my way up but it was a nightmare as practically everybody in the building wanted to receive communion, ideally hoping for the pope himself to be the one to administer it to them. Meeting up with the girls outside, they told me that all of them, except for my immediate friend, had received communion, a couple from actually from the pope himself. I saw lots of other Islamic women that day join the queue for communion too. It's clear they were Islamic and Turkish as Azeris then didn't wear headscarves and dressed in a western-Russian manner. I'm sure the same thing happens all the time when non-Catholics receive communion, usually out of curiosity. However, nobody when I was there, whether it was the Pope, his diplomats or entourage or local priest(whoever he was and whether he was actually Azeri) tried to stop them.
ReplyDeleteYou are right.
DeleteIts all politics"
Pat its not a matter of what Jesus would have done. Jesus has nothing to do with it. We are talking about the Institution. You should not have presented yourself for communion in a Roman Catholic Church because you are not a Roman Catholic. You were a Roman Catholic once and you are a Roman Catholic Priest, but in attempting ordination as bishop you have been expelled from the Roman Catholic Church, whether you like it, or can see it, or can accept it, or not. Its rather like the rules of a golf club. You belong to Balmoral Golf Club, for the sake of argument, you then go off and set up your own golf club across the road from your former club and do everything you can to attack and undermine Balmoral Golf Club. You then turn up to one of the main functions of the Balmoral Golf Club and expect to be welcomed and fed and watered with those you have spent tears attacking and condemning and seeking to undermine. Come on Pat for goodness sake wise up. The bishop was right to refuse you communion, for him to have done anything otherwise would have been a scandal. I really believe its time you accepted this and moved on. You have many important and interesting things to say, but stop banging on about the institution that expelled you. The more you do, the more it appears that they really have hurt you and that they still control you actions and reactions. Thats no way to live your life. Come on Pat. Break free. While there is time left.
ReplyDelete"JESUS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT".
DeleteThat says it all :-)
08:57, how can Jesus have nothing to do with it? HE WAS THERE, under the appearance of bread and wine. He had everything to do with it. And he gives himself FOR everyone, including Pat Buckley. No one (as Sean Paige would say) owns 'the Jesus franchise'.
DeleteThat bishop had no divine right to refuse ANY one of goodwill the Blessed Sacrament, Canon Law or no Canon Law.
08:57 "Jesus's has nothing to do with it." What a let down statement from you!
DeleteAre you Catholic?
Bottom line Bishop Cullinan made a show of himself.
Jesus would have chosen to sit with the sinner.
Some of you here make me physically sick, quoting church law and more ridiculously Canon Law - where in Scripture does Jesus institute Canon Law. Remember what he said about casting the first stone, that Bishop yesterday cast the second stone, hang your head in shame you self righteous hypocrites and that excuse of a Bishop yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWhen He said "What you shall bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, what you shall loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven"
DeleteEven if what you "bind" is unchristian or anti Christian? ??
DeleteDoes that idea of 'binding', 10:15, extend to bishops' having covered up the sexual abuse of children and their protection of the abusers because they were priests and therefore ontologically different (superior) to lay people?Does it extend to Cardinal Ratzinger's instruction not to report allegations of such abuse to civil authorities, but to his curial department, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith?
DeleteYou have put your faith in men rather than in Christ.
Discipline,by its very nature,is not easy. Otherwise it wouldn't be discipline.
DeleteDiscipline is not something "done to me". Rather it simply confirms a choice to separate myself that I have already made. Therein lies its justice.
Take the analogy of an exam (in normal and fair circumstances)-The examiner, in a sense, doesn't "fail me" today. He merely confirms formally a choice I have already made - and perhaps have been making by my indolence all year - - to fail myself. I made the choice. It was his responsibility to act in a manner fair to the other candidates and fair to me and verify the choice I had made. We are not separated and excluded from the Church by anyone unless we CHOOSE it. If that's your choice, fair enough, live with it and move on while accepting the consequences of your choice. It can be a tough one and I am not judging anyone here.
14:56, it is, in a literal sense, infinitely more important not to be separated from Christ by choice rather than from the Church.
DeleteThe aging actress is just having a hissy fit. It happens with lot of old queens I’ve noticed.
ReplyDeleteThe vast majority of Catholics want nothing to do with the institutional church. He behaved badly but for your own sanity, cut the cord and break free.
ReplyDeleteAnd your source for this astonishing revelation about attitude of Catholics to the institutional Church? If you don't like it you don't go and you certainly don't present yourself for Communion.
Delete+Pat I for one know how you feel, when you not in communion you get all that goes with it. I have used your statement beginning with "What would Jesus" or "Where does it say" on many occassions.
ReplyDeleteI believe the good honest Irish Roman Catholic's don't know where to turn or go. Those strong enough and with little knowledge of faith have simply walked away. The good Catholic is unaware that they have the one time Canon Law right to transfer their loyalties to another Catholic Rite such as Eastern.
I no longer consider myself Roman because of these Bishop’s and priests who abuse their vocation. Hell will never burn out for the fuel they provide.
Your desire to honour a friend should have been recognised. The bishop with a small b dishonoured his rank, he should have offered his apology and then gave you a blessing. Whilst running the risk of you saying rightly that he refused you communion. If he had not given the out burst beforehand +Pat would you have went near him at communion???
Yes, thats right Jesus has nothing to do with it, as Jesus did not found a church, not institute a priesthood, nor wish his followers to have any structure that would interfere with their direct communication with His Father in Heaven. That applies to St Peters in Rome and the Oratory in Larne. Religion, and the structures they impose, are all man made. The fact that you call yourself 'bishop' and dress up as such is as much an indication that you still belong to the institution as any of those fools gathered yesterday in County Waterford. Its all a myth Pat. Free yourself.
ReplyDeleteSo for all of you people who think that The idiot was right to refuse BISHOP Pat Holy Communion, shame on you all. Even stating that Jesus has nothingbto do with it. Are you fecking kidding me ?. You are so caught in the mindset of the institution. I actually think Jesus has a lot to do with this and would be deeply offended and appaled by Phonsie and in the way he behaved. A thought for consideration folks. What is more important, THE LETTER OF THE LAW OR THE SPIRIT OF THE LAW ?.
ReplyDeleteGod will judge us all and I hope that it's those who have had the courage to say NO to what is clearly not Christs ways being used under the guise of his churches and various religions that will enjoy his love.
ReplyDeleteI was very much impressed by a contribution from yesterday evening at 21:39. I have not the competence to copy this into today's blog. Perhaps Pat could transfer it - it does seem to me to be like something Jesus really would have done;
ReplyDeleteI was told by a priest that anyone presenting himself for Holy Communion could not be refused. Is this true?
Anonymous21 February 2017 at 21:39
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that the Bishop lost an ideal, opportunity here.
How nice it would has been to welcome Pat Buckley, to appreciate his presence and the 300 mile drive to honour his old professor. To perhaps admit our serious differences but be aware of the things which hold us together - few that they might be!
The big question - what would Jesus have done. Surely better than this.
Thank you, Bishop.
ReplyDeleteI - 10:03'- appreciate that!
GOD, give us men!
ReplyDeleteA time like this demands
Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office can not buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
In public duty, and in private thinking;
For while the rabble, with their thumb-worn creeds,
Their large professions and their little deeds,
Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom weeps,
Wrong rules the land and waiting Justice sleeps.
I would have thought it would have been a bishop's priority to avoid this kind of unpleasantness - and that goes for both bishops involved here. The one need not have provoked and the other need not have allowed himself to be provoked.
ReplyDeleteSo many people receive Holy Communion unworthily at funerals and weddings nowadays that it does seem odd to have singled out one in particular. I'm not sure if it is an actual rule anywhere but it does seem to me to be good pastoral practice to give the host to all who present themselves. Jesus knows his own and is well able to look after himself. Even if the priest is alerted beforehand, which is often done as a provocation, he should ignore it.
How very Irish to drive 300 miles to be offended!
I was not trying to provoke.
DeleteI was there to fully participate in my friends funeral.
11 28 I agree
DeleteI thought it was against Canon Law to refuse Communion at the rails. It was announced at a funeral I was at that only those in communion with RC Church could receive. I asked for a blessing. I was the only non R C in the building. The Bishops alleged anger is the point to be addressed here. He should be openly challenged about it
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard that poem for years! By Josiah Gilbert Holland, as far as I can recall--
ReplyDeletePat seems some in RC Church want to treat you as less than human. There were times in the past I felt less than human in what was a winter of discontent. I believe you were religiously discriminated against because the alleged outburst of anger is a form of discrimination. Refusing communion is an internal matter and breach of canon law.
ReplyDeletePat, whatever happened to Fr. David O'Hanlon. He was the priest who challenged Fr. Iggy on the Late Late Show and President Robinson?
ReplyDeleteHe's still around. Lovely guy actually and very charismatic. He does a lot of charity work.
Delete11 28
ReplyDeleteWho gave you the rite to think you know that "so many receiver holy communion unworthily" at weddings and funerals
I have seen young couples relieve the sacrament at first holy communion and confirmation and yet they never in church on Sunday's...still I'm not their judge.
I would certainly hesitate to "judge" any particular individual. They might just be the exception that proves the rule.
DeleteIt doesn't seem right though that people who are "never in Church on Sundays" should receive Communion on the odd social occasion that they do happen to be in Church.
The relevant canons are 915 and 916. They can be found here: www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/__P39.HTM
17:02, why would you ration the Lord's food, his body and blood? Is it yours to ration? To those YOU deem deserving?
DeleteGod gives to all, whether just or unjust...and ALL are still undeserving of his bounty!
Don't you remember what is said by ALL at Mass, directly before recitation of the Lord's Prayer? Go and look it up
What did brady do as a cannon lawyer
ReplyDeleteYou pink dressed up fools make me puke
The poster above asks "What did Brady do as a cannon lawyer?" Spelt like that, presumably he was one of the big guns - - best laugh I got all day!
DeleteI hate people saying they don't judge and who add that only God is judge. Nothing can hurt God so it is none of God's business what we do. Rights are based on needs and God does not need to condemn any person or any action. Free will these days is seen as being free because of God for God creates all and has more to do with our actions than we do. It is passive aggressive to adore a divine judge. The only problem with letting evil criminals be happy and free is that it puts the innocent at risk. Ideally the bad and the good should have equal happiness. Talk of punishment is just vindictive.
ReplyDeletePeople who make posts to laugh at typos
ReplyDeleteAre so up themselves
Ha ha! Yes(--just like people with no sense of humour--)
DeleteWhen we don't show love and understanding toward our neighbour, of course it hurts God
ReplyDeleteYou're right of course - - when you say "When we don't show love and understanding toward our neighbour, it hurts God" . And more than that - - it hurts our relationship with God.. He notices how we treat even "the least of his brethern" I believe that is what He told us.
DeletePat, don't worry about the bread.
ReplyDelete@Pat SO what exactly happened? You walked up to receive and he said no? Did he put his hand over the ciborium? Did you remonstrate? Did he say anything? Did you not go to someone else giving it out then? Also yesterday it said in comments that there was shouting before the mass. Did he go over to you before the funeral or what happened? Sounds weird for anyone to act in such a way, never mind a bishop
ReplyDeletePat, I am a seminarian and I am straight. I am upset that my sister is planning on marrying a lesbian later this year. She is my only sibling. I am so embarrassed and her intentions will certainly damage my creditability with the dioceses, bishop and colleagues. She is so inconsiderate to me and my family.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be made up? Taking from the blog
DeleteDear Seminarian, presuming that your sister will marry her girlfriend, people find out. Then your credibility will be damaged by your diocese, bishop and colleagues, not because you sister married a lesbian, but because you wrote on a blog to Bishop Pat and everyone will know it's you. Grow up
DeleteWell not necessarily. You obviously understand she is in mortal sin and have presumably attempted to put her right, regardless of her 'hurt feelings'. You need not fear that your sister will damage your credibility or hold you back in your career in the church. Of course you can still take the opportunity of your first mass to denounce the whore from the pulpit, and make a point of publicly denying her communion.
DeleteBut really, if your comment is serioys, get over yourself.
I agree 18.37 what has this got to do with the subject of the blog today - a silly diversion tactic.
Delete18.04 Grow up and get your priorities sorted. It's not just about how things should appear to be on the surface. That's where the Pharisees slipped up
DeleteA senior member of Staff in Allen Hall, the Westminster Seminary has a lesbian active sister and it's not big news, far from it. O' Boy it's not news at all. It's no secret or surprise he himself is gay, but in fairness he hasn't come out of the closet yet. Allen Hall in Chelsea was a hotbed of homosexuals in which it was called Alice Hall to this very day.
DeleteI agree with the posting @ 18.04. Gays and lesbians are inconsiderate to their families and they are unwelcome to receive the sacraments or attend church.
ReplyDeletePreach it sister!
Delete@21:39
DeleteLmao!
It was easier for us when the fecked off to America or London. Now we have to deal with such issues.
ReplyDeleteYou are not her keeper ..don't upset yourself
ReplyDeleteI know of a very high up priest who has a gay brother in a relationship
Never reflected on him
Continue with your studies and keep calm
You should never worry what the neighbours will think
ReplyDeleteNeighbours include your peers and your seniors etc etc
God bless x
Yes pat
ReplyDeleteWhen exactly did he shout at you.....before of during communion time
Wish I had been there
Still very embarrassing for the Shine relatives
Dear Father, I was present at Monsignor Shines funeral yesterday. I could hear the Bishop shouting at you that you were excommunicated and I thought he shouted at some of his Priests to come and put you out of the Church? Was that part of it true as I was sat near to the choir. He did seem very angry and I thought he was particularly aggressive. I don't want to get into the rights and wrongs of the issue, everyone has been talking about it in town since yesterday. Who was the Priest who accompanied you, someone recognised him from the TV. Was he also refused Communion because some of us were unsure.
ReplyDeleteOh dear - - a lot of questions in the post above. Poor Pat! Wouldn't it have been easier to send him out an interrogation form - - (Pat--vay have vays of making you talk! Let's hope they don't try waterboarding - -)
ReplyDeleteStrait sem, I no who u r & it didn't stop u frm strayin down da strait & naro corridor
ReplyDeletePlease translate,like a good boy
DeleteDear Pat, I have a breaking story about a certain seminarian in Maynooth, how do I contact you to give you this information ?
ReplyDeletebishopbuckley1@outlook.com
DeleteDope you have no story! Now f*uck off back to your room and eat your bag of haribos like a good child!!!
DeleteAnd brush your teeth!
DeleteIs this Waterford related?
DeleteThe seminarian raises an important discussion point. The church in Ireland has double standards. get the gay and lesbian associates and co-workers out first, why pay gays in parish, youth, music or liturgical ministry?
ReplyDeletePat what are you going to do about Cullinan and what happened in Tramore? I suppose there is nothing you can do. Sad! Were the Gardai called? A friend told me you were arrested?
ReplyDeleteNonsense.
Delete@Pat you got away lucky if he shouted at you. Some of us used to have to endure him singing at us. Fancies himself as Frank Sinatra
ReplyDeleteTell us more......
DeleteI just feel sad listening to all of this. The RC church in Ireland has lost its way
ReplyDeleteWere things really ever any different?
DeleteFr Shane has a good singing voice in fairness after listening to him yesterday in Tramore, seems a tad shy, quiet, harmless, sweet and innocent. Are you aware of him Pat?? My only downfall is I'd like him to shag me. Only being honest.
ReplyDeleteTramore Bill
Bishop can you baptise my dog ? He's in the church more often than our parish deacon. Serious question
ReplyDeleteOur Shane is not as innocent as he looks? Little ginger - right?
ReplyDeleteEx Maynooth
Tell us more.
DeleteWhy is it that promiscuity minded gay
ReplyDeletey peeps here express their wish to be shagged
And us woman wouldn't dream of being promiscuous
In our language....we talk
K more of a loving relationships
23.19 Fu*k off and get a life moron, the topic of the blog today is a serious question and issue it's not about baptising your pooch. Go and wise up and catch yourself on.
ReplyDeleteYou are mean as Bishop Cullinan.
DeletePat I'm sorry to tell you, you are spelling the bishop's name wrong. It should be with a z not an s, and I'm very disappointed to learn he's lost his legendary cool:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A-DCWlLfOQ
