CHURCH PROBLEMS UPDATE

Recently I travelled to Balbriggan in Dublin to meet two young men who claim to have had sexual encounters with priests / seminarians as a result of visits to gay sex sites like Grindr, Fabguys, Gaydar, Sileverdaddies and Daddyhunt.

I met the young men seperately in the Bracken Court Hotel in Balbriggan as they both as they both live within a short distance of the town.

You will remember from previous blogs that security cameras had been installed in Balbriggan presbytery - supposedly at the instructions of the Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin.

Outside Balbriggan Presbytery with security cameras
The young men recounted stories to me of their encounters with a priest and two Maynooth seminarians.

On one occasion a room was booked at a hotel to facilitate the meetings.

On other occasions meeting too place in cars at Balbriggan, Naul, Ashbourne and Maynooth. All of these towns and villages are in the Archdiocese of Dublin.

I have stopped communicating information to Diarmuid Martin as absolutely nothing has come out of those communications.

Instead I am building up a dossier which I intend showing to one or two reliable journalists especially before the time of upcoming Maynooth and other Irish ordinations to the priesthood.

ONGOING CONCERNS:

I am constantly receiving requests for updates on stories that have appeared in the media and on this Blog.

It seems to me that Diarmuid Martin is quite determined to ordain Deacon Jack Gorgeous Byrne to the priesthood this summer.

It also appears that the Bishop of Kerry. Raymond Browne, is determined to ordain Sean King Puck Jones to the priesthood for the Diocese of Kerry in the summer. People tell me that a date has been set and a hotel has been booked for a great celebration.

I am not sure what has happened to Father Chris Derwin of Balbriggan and later Tallaght parishes.

Father David Brough in apparently working in the Arklow set of parishes?

There has been no change of personnel in Maynooth.

Conan McGonnigal who MISUNDERSTOOD the two seminarians in bed in Maynooth is apparently working as a barman in London.

AND - THEY ARE ALL LIVING HAPPILY EVER AFTER.........................

  1. Pat - any idea if there is a swimming pool in or near the Irish college in Rome? Perhaps you might look into this in relation to ongoings Aug 2016 with a dublin deacon.

Reading this blog I am starting to understand the connection between the decline of our beautiful Roman Catholic church and the third secret of Fatima which has never been fully revealed to the public only to a select few. 5. Pat, as a senior Dublin priest I have on two occasions reported sexual misbehaviour between younger priests and seminarians to Archbishops House. My reports were received coldly and nothing was done. I am now a persona non grata.

Bishop Pat, the only thing they understand is public exposure, exposure, exposure.

Yet again, the question arises - is Diarmuid Martin personally compromised? Are other high-ranking clerics compromised?

If they are, away with them. The sooner this poison is neutralised the better.

  6. As I said in a previous blog a certain Dublin Deacon revels in showing pics of senior Dublin Clergy and rich silverdaddies he has had sexual encounters with. Many are compromised and he is a clever nasty individual who is being protected, it explains the move from Maynooth to Rome and currently in the USA. In my day you would have been shown the door immediately. Gannon is another one being protected.

  17. He is 100 times worse than Connell it would seem!!! For all Connell's ineptitude and lamentable inadequacies, there was never even a hint of him covering up. Someone in Rome MUST intervene in Ireland to stop these unsuitable men being ordained and to remove from office these sexually active homosexual prelates who are protecting and enabling them. Was NOTHING learned from Rory Coyle? This 'batch' of seminarians, it seems, is ROTTEN to the core! Remove them all before it is too late. At this stage, a fearless journalist needs to be given the entire dossier on all of this rotten mess. Is there such a journalist in Ireland, Pat? Is there the equivalent of the Spotlight team of the Boston Globe? Maybe we need to look beyond Ireland. It is astonishing that the Irish media are so disinterested in this story? Its hardly "fake news" - or is it??? If what we are being led to suspect as true is indeed the case, then the Irish Church on CHURCH PROBLEMS UP

Sorry, I can see why you edited but it is badly worded now.

Connell, it is well known, is accused of having covered up child abuse.

When I say, DM seems 100 times worse than Connell it is on account of his inexplicable desire to ordain Gorgeous, his astonishing inaction over scandalous behaviour among Dublin clergy and seminarians, leading to all sorts of speculation about him personally.

  19. Pat, where have you got this oft-repeated notion that two seminarians were caught in bed? No one was caught in bed. That isn't what happened as anybody close to the story will know. The circumstances were in fact sufficiently unclear as to allow a legitimate benefit of the doubt to be applied. Also, Conan is in Ireland, so this gay bar in London stuff is (maliciously I think) mixing him up with a former Derry seminarian who was in the Wing for a while, who is indeed working in a bar in London - whether or not it is gay I don't know, but the guy is living openly and happily with his (male) partner and whose life is not anyone's concern.

    1. What did happen then in the two in the bed episode???

      Delete
    2. No one ever alleged that two people were in a bed for the simple reason that no one ever saw that. The eye witness reports that were discussed among seminarians related only to unusual circumstances. Personally, I think that if anything untoward was going on, those involved would have concealed it in a much better way than transpired which makes me have a doubt, but who knows, maybe they were up to something - fact is, only the two themselves know, because no third party actually saw anything. Anyway, that is the reason I think that no complaint was ever registered with the seminary authorities - it was all too unclear. Two seminarians in a bed would have been a different matter - one could easily have reported that. Then someone (exactly who it was remains a mystery (to me at least), though one seminarian was deemed guilty - unfairly I think) decided to take it upon themselves to send the infamous anonymous letter. Those unusual circumstances grew by Chinese whispers into the idea that two seminarians were actually caught in bed together - that didn't happen.

    3. You say, "maybe they were up to something" so even you can't be sure. Let's just admit you don't really know about this incident of two in a bed.

    4. I'm merely pointing out that like the nonsense (and easily discredited) story about working in a bar in London, there is a lot of stuff being presented as facts which are obviously untrue. It is a fact that two seminarians were NOT caught in bed together by a third party. If in doubt, go ask a seminarian or a member of the seminary council to verify the real story. Let's hope the dossier proposed is more thorough and careful in its research than today's blog and the comments that have been permitted to be posted. Since Pat claims to have a great array of inside sources, it is surprising that this most basic of errors has not been corrected by his sources. Perhaps someone has an agenda, and a selective presentation of 'alternative facts' works well for them.

    5. Is this "Two In A Bed" story the same as the "Seminarian A" account from The Irish Times last August? http://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/religion-and-beliefs/maynooth-seminary-a-place-of-psychological-abuse-1.2746481
If it is and Seminarian A is Conan, I do think he has been treated terribly and that schemes, convenience and ruthless self interest have conspired to potentially ruin this man's vocation. A search around the internet today leads me also to believe that Conan is probably in Ireland and in so doing have come across other newspaper stories that document his journey. The I.T. say's seminarian A was at the time considering his options. I would gently like to draw Conan back to his own words at the end of a bbc interview "If you're being called to the priesthood, the only thing I can say is keep yourself open to that." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-31855151
On a personal note, I see similarities in my own experience where another's power, ambition and control was exercised through psychological and sexual manipulation. He to would reduce everything down to defining a person by their sexuality and then when I came to "Own" that, to cast doubt and take it away again!(Manipulation.) Reading that earlier comment stating Conan was a repressed homosexual and "Glad he found himself" just reminded me of how sickeningly shallow, base and vacuous, not to mention how damaging, erroneous and life limiting taking such comments "Carte Blanc" can be. Before anyone thinks I'm homophobic, I'm not. I'm glad when people find wholeness and love, whoever they are, but something draws a person to priesthood or religious life and it's not usually the idea of finding a partner. 30 years on myself and others I know see our lives as having diverged from a course they seemed destined to follow. 30 years on I have a deep appreciation for the saying of Our Lord that "Foxes Have Holes, but the Son Of Man hath no place to lay his head," I try and live out my vocation in the Lord's Holy Poverty and service to Him in my neighbour. I try to look back less. I have and am leaving warnings from my experience where I can but beyond that it must now be onwards. In the case of Seminarian A, it would appear that many high up figures have less than altruistic purposes in mind by blocking his progression. From where I'm standing and mostly in ignorance,I admit, but commenting here today because it both touched a personal nerve and provoked profound empathy for Seminarian A / Conan? It is indeed the Churches loss, but potentially 30+ years / A lifetime / a tragedy? loss for Conan too.
It may be difficult to find some empathy for the perpetrators, but in many ways they too are victims of the current Church's split multiple personalities. It's not always easy to understand what the rules of the clique are? Does your face fit? Don't get caught? Or make sure those in power are themselves compromised. If we all stopped making sex such a big deal, first and foremost adopted a tolerant attitude to consensual sex, with no harmful intent, we could then in prayerful charity explore as a church and individually, more subtle levels of harm and how these might be addressed, which indeed might be different for different people. The owner of the vineyard calls workers and agrees contracts at various times with various individual conditions. My inability to form a romantic relationship with anyone after 30 years trying and damaging myself and others along the way, is leading me to explore celibacy again, for my own sake and the kingdom! The gay sexual identity that I attempted to re-enforce because at an important formative time that was what I was without option immersed in, I don't believe was ever the real me and if the Church would get over itself, it would in one swoop avoid blackmail attempts, heal a lot of people and probably win for itself a communion of many saints and excellent Priests!

  22. @Pat This may sound weird but hear me out. The papers are ignoring the story apparently? So, why not contact the Iona Institute. Hear me out. It may sound a silly way to take. But, it is a recognised catholic Institute who do an awful lot more for Church teaching than the bishops. Members of the institute are always on the tv and I think they wouldn't take too kindly to genuine Catholics being fooled by hypocritical young priests/seminarians who are so preoccupied in the promiscuous sex rather than defending Church teaching and being pastoral. It may seem a silly suggestion, but members of the Institute have an awful lot more authority than impotent bishops. Secondly, to gain media attention to the plight of Maynooth and what it's producing, you could hold a public cleansing of Maynooth, to rid it from its promiscuity. Remember Bishop Cox did that years ago to the Dail from the gates. It would gain attention by the mainstream media. Anti promiscuity blessing from the Gates to the Seminary.

  25. Lets be clear. Anyone who has ever been in Maynooth knows that there was usually only one chair in a room. People who visited sat on the chair and the seminarian -whose room it was - sat on the bed. For the seven years I was there, I thonk there was always someone in my room, and usually more han one. We'd have tea or a chat. Indeed every Thursday evening there used to be diocesan get-togethers. A seminarian would host his entire diocese in the room, so if a diocese had 15 seminarians in Maynooth, then the whole 15 would be in his room, different seminarians took turns on a rota to do this. Obviously the story from last year is NOT about two guys being just in one room. There is nothing wrong with that. That is common place. The room is a room with your bed, but also your sort of sitting room with a desk etc. Obviously whatever happened was more than just two people being in the room. If there were on the bed they were on the bed, if they were riding on the floor there one on the floor. There's several ways to skin a cat. Maybe there were in the bed, maybe they weren't. But they must have been up to something for the story to get so exposure. To recap, two guys being the room is as commonplace as rain in Ireland. Something must have been peculiar about the circumstances for the story to do the rounds.

  27. There is something of a queer paradox here. On the one hand, Pat believes he is a progressive, but progress has actually left him far behind reality.

Active gay priests and active gay seminarians are the norm nowadays and have been for years. It is Pat who has to bring himself up to date, not the bishops.

  28. Did anyone care to contact the Congregation in Rome that deals with Clergy and Ceacons etc. Obviously the Bishops here wont and the President of Maynooth wont nor will the President of the Irish College (glorified B&B) in Rome. Whoever has the facts or the information needs to do that. Otherwise you'll be pissing up a brick wall with bishops here. Just do it and register the letter/dossier. @Pat If you forward your dossier in installments to Rome (to the relevant Congregation) and also forward a copy to the Nunciature in Dublin and register the post, then the journalists you eventually show the dossier will pay attention if they feel that you have contacted Rome about it and the Nunciature in Dublin (there is a team there regardless of the current vacancy).
