A reliable source with access to the Irish College in Rome has informed us that there is a huge and well coordinated plan afoot to have Deacon Michael "Gorgeous" Byrne ordained to the priesthood at the earliest possible moment.
The process involves a well planned project to reduce his public profile by having him abstain from all social media and a well laid out plan to make sure that he does not appear in any photographs either inside or outside the Irish College.
If you go on to the Irish College website you will find absolutely no trace of Gorgeous at college functions.
Its as if he no longer exists.
Our source also tells us that he has received a full assurance from Archbishop Diarmuid Martin that he will be ordained "as soon as feasible" and that he will be given a ministry in Dublin that will allow him relative anonymity - such as a hospital chaplaincy.
Diarmuid Martin apparently has not yet decided if he will be ordained in Dublin or in Rome.
There has also been talk of another bishop doing the ordination to distance Diarmuid from it?
The archbishop has apparently concluded that appointing him to a parish is not an option until such time as his public profile decreases. In the archbishop's thinking a hospital chaplaincy will allow him to do pastoral work away from the public gaze.
One person in the Irish College has been appointed to oversee his profile - to keep him out of all photographs and to help him manage his withdrawal from social media - to which, in the past he has been relatively "addicted".
He has also been asked to limit his contact with priests working back home in Dublin and has been advised particularly to stay away from old haunts like the Pro Cathedral.
His trips back to Dublin and any holidays he takes to places like Spain also need to be "run past" Diarmuid and an appointed Irish College "minder".
Our senior priest contact in the Dublin archdiocese when asked for a comment told us:
"I cannot, for the life of me, understand the massive operation there is in place to have this deacon ordained a priest regardless of all other considerations. In all other cases seminarians and deacons are like beggars waiting to hear that their ordinations will go ahead - and only if they have been on the best behaviour.
In this particular case it seems that all the "power" resides with the deacon and not with the archbishop or seminary authorities. He seems to be cracking the whip and Diarmuid seems to be jumping to it. We must ask ourselves why is this?
The whole scenario is the talk of the Dublin presbyterate and those Dublin priests who do not like AB Martin are looking forward to this being his undoing. It is all very, very sad".
In my 47 years as a seminarian, priest and bishop I have NEVER seen a seminarian with such POWER.
I really do not know what is behind it all.
But like everything else - in time - it will all come out.
PS: Meanwhile there is no news from Kerry about the ordination of Sean Jones who continues to serve as a deacon in Listowel after being dispensed from his final year of study for the priesthood.
JONES ON RIGHT |
Again - another mystery. I have never heard of a seminarian being dispensed from his final year of study - except if the seminarian was seriously ill or dying!
What is going on ................................ ???
Lol...looking fwd to all the craic
ReplyDeleteA film perhaps
I think a hospital will be the most public of jobs
One never knows what is around the corners in there
Georgeous has something on Ab D. Martin. He has some dirt on him and others and that is why he is going to be ordained a Priest. Maybe Byrne will reveal all after he is ordained a Priest or else he will go totally off the wall after his first year and leave like whacko Derwin. What a Queeny happy Farm the Dublin Presbyterate is these days.
ReplyDeleteI've come across this before - in a religious community where a psychopathic piece of work successfully pulled the wool over his immediate superior's eyes so that he was golden boy.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't really any reason why any future scandal would be Martin's undoing - if Gorgeous's ordination is being so cunningly managed then so will any future problems.
Well now it matters not what is said about these characters or should I say sinners, like we all are.
ReplyDeleteTheir ordinations are not going to change the decline of the Irish church, if anything itmay hasten it.
Very strange indeed. Calling hospital chaplaincy anonymous seems strange as well. A hospital environment is no more protected from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune than anywhere else
ReplyDeleteActually more so Sean, having worked in one for 40 years
ReplyDeleteI well remember some of the so called holy men arriving, collar askew, and what they up to after their quick exit.
As a ward sister I once had the pleasure of coming across our hospital chaplain in a compromising position with a male nurse in a linen cupboard. After that the chaplain always skipped my ward on his rounds. I told his bishop about the incident when he visited a retired priest on the ward. His response was "Really". He became a PP in the next diocesan changes.
DeleteWhy does Dermo not just make Gorgeous his private secretary?
ReplyDeleteDublin PP
That position is taken by an ex seminarian.
DeleteSurely an archbishop is entitled to a whole bevy of private secretaries, especially if the archdiocese can afford it:

The very fact that these guys are attracted to the ministry is an indicator that theology of priesthood falls seriously short of Christ's command that his disciples be servants rather than masters.
ReplyDeletePriesthood is the Trojan Horse through which Satan enters the Church. Pope Benedict effectively acknowledged this when he admitted that it was priests who brought perverted 'filth' into the Church.
Magna i do agree with some of what you say. However, priesthood is not defined by those traitors that desecrate the Altar. Thankfully the heart of priesthood is Christ. That said, those vile creatures should never get ordained. The irish bishops are a joke.
DeleteAt 10.30 this morning I went to the church, said the "Laudate Dominum" in thanksgiving that Magna Carta had not appeared and hoping that at long last he had realised that he - and he mother - had finally disappeared.
DeleteBut he was back at 11:02 - what do you do???
11:08, I don't deny you have a point. But, in the first place, would these seminarians be attracted to the priesthood if they didn't perceive it as glamourous, as a means to serve their narcissism? I doubt it.
DeleteWhy do these seminarians think of priesthood in this way? Isn't it because priests have been theologically presented as effective demi-gods through their supposed 'ontological transformation' at ordination? This heady concept would appeal powerfully to a certain type of person. And it has, sadly, down through Church history. Men totally unsuited spiritually and psychologically have been attracted by this worldly, self-serving notion of priesthood, which has revealed not Christ, but Satan. It is a man-made concept that has more in keeping with Roman history (in which emperors were thought of as divine) rather than salvation history.
List'n luv at 12:32, if y' can't bate 'em, join 'em.
DeleteMaggie Carta (Magna's Oul Ma)
MC's point is patent nonsense. The church would not exist today were it not for generations of men who dedicated their lives in the priesthood. The presence of bad apples in the barrel is a consequence of fallen human nature but in no way undermines the centrality of the priesthood in the church, no more than a paedophile in a family taints all of its members. I'm afraid MC's personal history seems to have contaminated any objectivity he may have once had on the church. We should all pray for him.
ReplyDeleteYou really are conceited aren't you? 'We should all pray for him'? No disrespect, but I doubt whether your prayers would ascend beyond your dingy, living-room ceiling.
DeleteAnd what is this notional idea that 'the Church would not exist today were it not for the generations of men who dedicated their lives in the priesthood'? That statement has provided me with the deepest bellylaugh I'll probably get this week. These buggers couldn't exist themselves (let alone keep the Church in existence) were it not for the laity, from whom they greedily sponge! Time for a wake-up call, 11:42. IT IS BECAUSE OF THESE MEN THAT THE CHURCH HAS LURCHED FROM ONE CRISIS TO THE NEXT IN ITS ENTIRE HISTORY. (Caplocks Police: ya, boo, sucks!) And where have we ended! In the cesspit of sexual misconduct and perversion.
Yes, I acknowledge the 'centrality' of these men...in the progressive demise of Christ's Church.
These men aren't the reason for the continued existence of the Church: they are definitive proof that it must be Jesus himself who is sustaining it against their wilful, self-serving, and concerted attempts to destroy it.
'... a hospital chaplaincy.'
ReplyDeleteEh? But hospitals are full of gay male nurses; it would be like sending an alcoholic to work in a brewery.
Speaking as a gay male nurse myself I've always been disappointed by the quality of the totty and Gorgeous would at least be ornamental
DeleteWere priests always that bad? He'll make a change I suppose.
DeleteNot all male nurses are gay, wishful thinking on some people's part. Total sweeping statement.
DeletePriesthood should not be the destination for those who may not fit anywhere else
ReplyDeleteWhere else are misfits to go? I wonder.
DeleteDublin has loaned Priests to different English dioceses until relatively recently. Perhaps they will loan Byrne to somewhere in England where he is less well known. Is it true Rory Coyle is now in England?
ReplyDeleteTheir alleged behaviour will follow them wherever they go, that they will be unable to escape from their notoriety.
DeleteDispensed from the final year of seminary training? In my time in the seminary in the U. S. this was referred to as being clipped. What is actually happening is that his training has been put on hold. If he keeps his nose clean and give evidence that he has a true calling. That he attracted to service, not to lace and pretty vestments, he may be ordained at some point in the future. We have to give his bishop credit for being cautious. Better an empty bed than unhappy boarder – or in this case, better one less priest than one who will clear the pews by unrealistic expectations and unsavory behavior. Let us pray that Deacon J. uses this time away from the seminary to set his priorities straight and, if necessary, to get his moral house in order.
ReplyDeleteThe problem in this sad case, the attraction of silverdaddy, or an old hobo, even a young tramp may be too much of a temptation for him.
DeleteI am almost convinced that we should praise these Bishops as much as possible as it seems in condemning their actions only makes them more resolved to continue.
ReplyDeleteCall it reverse or preverse thinking I do not mind, but if you will, lets get behind them shout it from the rooftops that you support these gay men and bent Bishops along with gaydar, silver daddies, and Twinks United.. The support given would definitely be rejected awaiting Vatican approval dare I say. Have a whip round for gay vestments as a present for each, lets be honest who's going to see them in vestments anyway around Dublin or otherwise.
Cant wait for Dermo to name his appointments this summer in the public forum. Oh thats right. He wont. He will cover them up like he did last summer. Covering up Derwin and Brough been moved to other Parishes.
ReplyDeleteWho is the free spirited everything goes priest in Donaghmede. Very flamboyant. Who is he?.
ReplyDeleteHis name is Fr David Lumsden. Nice eye candy.
ReplyDeleteNo Lumsden was in Edenmore. And grange park. He was replaced by Lawless . Not the one I am thinking of. Where did Lumsden go too.
ReplyDeleteStazione Termini in Rome where they all ended up sooner or later.
DeleteThat's where the rent boys meet to feed their drug habit!
DeleteNo he's Gerry Corcoran.......of the light-a-foot brigade! a good friend of Gorgeous himself.
ReplyDeleteThats the one. And Georgeous is belong to this Parish. This is his home Parish. Very Interesting indeed. I heard also this Fr Gerry had very interesting appts too in the past.
DeleteThank you. Yes he is.
DeleteThank you 17.43.
DeletePAT - the sisters of mercy in the new maternity hospital are looking for someone new to look out for their intersts - nice post for the good deacon although might not be interested in the female body.
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteIf I was Dermo Martin I would send him to Lough Derg to spend his time in penance - no social media out there
ReplyDeleteWhat a minder? there was no minder to be seen last summer in the swimming pool at the back of the Irish college..... Mr Byrne parading around like a King of a castle ...... I thought he must be the dean
ReplyDeleteNo minder when he met his Dublin Silverdaddy Priest friend recently at a 5 star Rome hotel. You've got to laugh at this minder suggestion, who is going to mind him everyday of his ministry or when he chooses to go on holiday? We are not idiots but Dermo is treating us as if we are. Is Dermo a Silverdaddy himself? One does wonder.
ReplyDeleteNo, he well past the silverdaddy stage. He's an antique dealer now.
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh!
DeleteTo ordain this man to the priesthood will be another disaster for Dublin and the Irish Church. He should never have gotten beyond the end of 1st year in formation.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has information on DM, if he is sexually compromised in some way, then go to the media and bring this circus to an end.
Press the big red button and bring Demot's misrule to an end for the good of the Church.
If Martin has been messing around, then he cannot be archbishop of Dublin. He has to go.
Furthermore, in wilfully ordaining unworthy and unsuitable men, he poses a grave danger to the moral and spiritual wellbeing of Dublin diocese.
If what is suspected is true, then HE HAS TO GO!
Have any Dublin clergy thought of reporting this to the Congregation for Bishops? If what has long been hinted at is the case, then DM is unfit to be archbishop and he must be removed as soon as possible.
To ordain "Gorgeous" will be an act of sheer madness. No bishop worth his salt would entertain the thought for a second. Something is very seriously wrong with Dermot Martin if what is being reported here is true.
ReplyDelete"WHAT IS SUSPECTED
ReplyDelete" WHAT IS REPORTED HERE'
Will those no doubt well intentioned correspondents and those with blinkered vision realise that there is a serious unhealthy obsession with this young Man in these blogs. Almost all..regardless of the subject matter will make reference or derogatory remarks about him. It seems clear to me that there are a handful of so called Christians on a mission to take his good name regardless. At the very least keep an open mind..or is that too much to expect?
There is no "obsession" with this guy. There is a grave concern that further scandal will be caused to a scandal-weary Church. There is grave concern about unworthy men being ordained and the possibility that bishops and archbishops etc are sexually compromised.
ReplyDeleteAnd who is qualified to deem them "unworthy"..writers to this blog?.the creator of this blog? Surely not.
DeleteAnd to suggest members of the hierarchy are possibly compromised is, I might suggest, sensationalism and without foundation or proof.
What other explanation can you offer for their tolerance of sexually promiscuous seminarians ???
DeleteI am sure the heirachy have the means to put our minds at rest... or perhaps not.
DeleteThe bishops are no better than promisculicious priests and seminarians. Catholics are now members of the church of promiscuity.
DeletePat, could you do some investigations into certain Dominicans who were booted from maynooth? There is a serious issue with guys ordained recently (10years) give or take, that hide behind so called orthodoxy. I am all for orthodoxy but not for thr living out of a strange homosexual subculture within the liturgy.
ReplyDeleteI am very much aware of one Dominican who would fit this picture perfectly...moved to the UK in the same period
Delete10.42. You have made me think! Some personas on here take on the air of a soap opera star. With regards any of the hopefully reverend clergy referred on here where is the reference to the core values needed to be a good priest. If someone is to be a hospital chaplain what counselling skills do they have. Can they deal with grieving and distressed families. Members of staff who may trust them with confidences. A plastic collar is good but on it's own it's not that good
ReplyDeleteCheck out a dom called XXXXX XXXXXX. Should not have been ordained. Went after guys in maynooth.
ReplyDeleteAh Pat! That dom is bad news! I know loads of guys who will testify to it. His initials are DB!
DeleteIn my time in maynooth there were a load of the so called traditional guys who were more concerned with lace than with the Real Presence. Shocking behaviour.
DeleteYeah. This Dom went to Oxford. He was enthusiastic about a group that met regularly there for the Latin Mass. They regularly adjourned to a gay bar after the lace liturgy.
DeleteHe must have learnt nothing from his earlier experiences.
Yeah, one of them currently runs around Armagh Cathedral dripping in the stuff.
DeleteYou are just a judgemental old spinster type that goes to the Cathedral and enjoys tittle tattle behind backs. You are an old maid, gossiping like maids at the market, you people make me sick. You look from behind your net curtains, strokes your cat and passes judgement on your neighbours. Your well known for it. We know it's you Biddy in Armagh, stop causing trouble at the Cathedral. Your own son is nothing to write home about after what he got up to.
Delete20.34 That's unfair and if it's the Biddy I know that goes to the Cathedral daily she wouldn't know one end of a computer to another. Yeah, she might be a bit noisy but who isn't and I haven't heard her speak ill of anyone. However, I do agree about the lace wearing and it concerns me that it's a young fellow who seems obsessed wearing it. Thank you.
DeleteThe correct version would be "You're well known for it"
DeleteThis is because on this occasion, "you're" is a contraction of "you are"
Biddy's son died in very tragic circumstances, that was a below the belt comment 20.34. Can you not imagine what it's like to bury your son as a parent. This business about the young priest wearing lace at Armagh Cathedral is neither here or there. What he wears is nobody's business. He's just old fashioned, no harm in that and he's the Bishops man here in Armagh, looking after him on the alter.
DeleteRef to the Dom above...are you confusing him with his brother, who also departed Maynooth?
DeleteNo he was there a few years later, as a non-seminary student.
Delete10.42 what a larf lol. You are clearly Byrne or one of his bum associates. You seem angry and enraged, not as half as angry or enraged as we are for being taken for fools and clowns. A handful of people you say against this poor innocent Seminarian, I think it's more than a handful and don't kid yourself. Maybe you are trying to fudge or spin the subject, sounds like the kind of spin of a gay ex Seminarian who just happens to be a Secretary
ReplyDelete"Fudge" - an unfortunate word in this context :-)
DeleteWhat a strange and vitriolic reply. You are perhaps one of the so called Christians to whom I refer who subscribes to crass language to try to get your point across?
DeleteIts interesting to note that you would deduce that my comments derive from anger. Far from it ... It happens to be merely an observation having read some of the questionable comments from those with mindsets similar to yours.
Pat, there was a guy in maynooth, who is with the Augustinians now. He was booted from maynooth on account of sexual activity. You should start digging into the frolics that took place in Stoight house toliets.
ReplyDeleteThere's not enough hours in the day to follow up all the allegations and insinuations made on here. However, it would be reasonable to assume they are all true.
DeleteThe Stoyte House toilets in Maynooth (on the ground floor, with first year seminarian bedrooms above) were notorious even in my day (late 1980s).
DeleteAre you bragging or complaining?
DeleteFor those sending in rubbish comments can I let you know this Blog received 5978 visitors yesterday and receives 4 - 6 thousand every day. It gets bigger when we talk about seminarians, Maynooth etc. Sorry to disappoint you.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work Pat.
ReplyDeleteI suggest you also investigate an Irish Dominican who later moved to the UK province, regarding allegations that hew was involved with other seminarians during his time in Ireland, and since moving to the Uk in the last 5-10 years, has enjoyed a relationship with a fellow Dominican. The two are often known to go on holiday together!
ReplyDeleteDirty old buggers.
Deleteupdate today Pat?
ReplyDeleteI think there is gay Promiscuous Irish Priests serving in England and vice versa. Send the problem elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteI found a photo of Deacon Byrne on the Irish College web site!
ReplyDeleteWas he fully clothed? I wonder.
DeleteWhat's your infatuation with him... You come off as obsessed
ReplyDeleteAmen
