SECRET ORDINATIONS WEEKS AWAY ???

Is it the case that TWO SECRET IRISH ORDINATIONS to the priesthood are planned in the next couple of weeks?

That is the ordination of of Deacon Michael Jack "Gorgeous" Byrne who is currently in Rome.

Self published photo of Gorgeous

And the ordination of Deacon Sean "King Puck" Jones who is presently living in the parochial house in Listowel in Co. Kerry.

Sean Jones on left
Yesterday a current Maynooth seminarian told us that the Maynooth Class of 2017 photograph was hung up on the wall in Maynooth.

The seminarian said that Gorgeous was in the picture and he never mentioned Jones. But I would imagine that if Gorgeous is on it so is Jones?

The seminarian further told us that the other ordinands in the class did not want Gorgeous' picture included in the class piece but they were over ruled by the seminary authorities?

One of the strange thigs about their inclusion is that neither Gorgeous or Jones are students of Maynooth.

Last summer Diarmuid Martin removed Gorgeous from Maynooth and made him a student of the Irish College in Rome?

Surely then his picture should be on the Irish College class of 2017 and not on Maynooth's?

Or maybe they will put him on both?

Jones also left Maynooth a year ago and was sent to live as a deacon in the parish of Listowel in Co. Kerry.

Normally seminarians are told months in advance that they will be ordained on a certain date, at a certain time, in a certain place and by a certain bishop.

This gives the seminarians time to purchase vestments, purchase an ordination chalice, book a hotel or venue for their after ordination reception, inform their families etc.

But in the case of Gorgeous and Jones all these normal, simple, practical and necessary little matters have been raised to the equivalent of STATE SECRETS!

We do not know if Diarmuid Martin has committed himself to ordaining Gorgeous.

We do not know if Ray Brown has committed himself to ordaining Jones.

Have the dates been set?

Have the venues being set?

Who will be the ordaining bishops?

The Sacrament of Holy Orders is a PUBLIC SACRAMENT that should be celebrated OPENLY in full view of the GATHERED CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY.

Surely we do not live in Russia or China where the state persecutes the church

Why do we have to have SECRET ORDINATIONS?

Is someone, somewhere afraid that someone in the congregation will stand up during the ordination ceremony and object to the ordination proceeding on some ground?

Is someone, somewhere afraid that the media will be present at the ordinations and that the MAYNOOTH GAY SUMMER of 2016 will be all over the papers again?

Is someone, somewhere afraid that there might be a group of protesters with banners outside the church where the ordinations are taking place?

Have Gorgeous and Jones been told when they will be ordained?

Or will Diarmuid Martin and Ray Brown pick them up in the middle of the night and drive them to a secret church location where the Rites of Ordination will be celebrated in candle light?

Maybe they will be ordained in the middle of the night in the Catacombs in Rome?

Or maybe they will be ordained in the cellars of a disused convent - like the convent the Tuam babies were buried in?

Could they even be ordained in the under ground septic tank at Knock Basilica in Mayo?

After their ordinations will they be known as "THE KNOCK TWO"?

  1. What a load of rubbish. There will be ordinations to priesthood of four deacons in Dublin 's Pro-Cathedral on November 14th Feast of St Laurence O'Toole diocesan Patron. Anyone who needs to know has known for months! Their names are William O'Shaughnessy, Robert Smyth, Michael Jack Byrne and Another! You mustn't be on the guest list my Lord.

  4. This whole affair reminds me of the US presidential contest last year. Trump and Clinton were two candidates for the most powerful position in the world who left much to be desired in terms of intellectual ability, character, integrity, honesty, vision, communication skills, emotional intelligence, etc. Yet the American people were forced to make a choice between two individuals who were surely the worst ever to run for the White House (apart from Bush Jnr maybe).

In Ireland we are in a similar unenviable position with regard to the current crop of candidates for the Priesthood. The self-published pictures, comments and scandalous behaviour of these so-called “men” is beyond belief, is absolutely incomprehensible. One can easily infer and glean from comments made by seminarians here that the characters who are regularly mentioned and seen in all their “glory” definitely suffer from a virulent form of narcissism, detachedness from reality and arrogance of the highest order – if they for one minute think that God is calling them to the Priesthood.

Any intelligent person will also know that the apparent “hierarchy” which facilitates and officiates over the Maynooth insanity do not know the meaning of the words form, oversee, discipline or responsibility themselves - and I suspect that they subconsciously want to completely destroy the Irish Catholic Church from within. Otherwise their actions and decisions are inexplicable.

Ultimately, however, as in any organized system, the final responsibility rests with those in the highest positions of command. After all the revelations of the past year via self-disclosed photographs, good priests and seminarians leaving Maynooth in hurried circumstances, seminarians being asked to leave for speaking out, malicious and horrible rumours being circulated by said people by the “good” and “true” remaining seminarians, one has to seriously wonder do the bishops – also - actually want to completely destroy, eviscerate and emasculate the Church in Ireland?

My conclusions to the last question are in the affirmative.

  5. I'm not debating your point in any way, but surely these huge, public, celebratory ordinations are a fairly recent thing? I have read that it was the case, even up into the twentieth century, for ordinations often to be private, say, done by the bishop in his own chapel.
My own reading of the change is that the clergy have only increased in power and prominence in that time?

  10. Pat, you have access to information, evidence and knowledge. Can you not make a case canonically to the nuncio and respective bishops and prevent their ordinations going ahead? Yes I accept that you may not have much time for canon law, but in this instance apply due process and diligence according to the Roman set-up and stop these pricks from beimg ordained. 11. If what is alleged about Gorgeous and King Puck is true, then Rome needs to intervene and prevent them being ordained priests. The process for their dismissal from the order of deacon should be fast-tracked.

If it is true - and - as some suspect - Gorgeous and Puck "have the dirt" on prominent churchmen and are using this knowledge as some kind of hold (blackmail) in order to get ordained, then it is time to force their hands and let the cards fall where they will.

To knowingly and wilfully ordain a sexually promiscuous man to the Catholic priesthood is an act of extreme violence against the Church.

If what is claimed about these men is true, then we are not even dealing with poor sinners struggling with their human weakness, falling into sin and striving to rise up with God's help and mercy.

We are dealing instead with crass, cynical, manipulative, cunning, predatory individuals who are sniggering up their sleeves, treating all that is most sacred with the utmost contempt. They have to be stopped.

Those who are cosseting, enabling, fostering and protecting them must also be stopped and exposed.

They're brazen in their hypocrisy, I'll give you that. But how is it a good thing?

      Delete
    2. Not saying that it is ZeroTime. But I am equally unimpressed by the extremism of some of the faux outrage expressed here. Let's be honest - it is a fantastic opportunity for some to attack an institution they hate. The pearl-clutching and extremity of the outrage don't quite ring true - most seem to be enjoying the spectacle. Pat does not believe in clerical celibacy nor, from what we can see of the new ICC, does he believe that sexual expression should be limited provided it does not use or abuse. Therefore it is difficult to take the outrage seriously. It is very obviously a golden opportunity to give the Church a kicking - perhaps rightly. But the motivation isn't what it purports to be, and expressing outrage and indignation over behaviour that one does not consider wrong is simply hypocrisy. Claiming that they are violating the Church's own rules doesn't cut the mustard - of course they are and they shouldn't be. But let's not delude ourselves that this whole charade is anything other than a circus of self-publicity.

One could also point out the patently false rape allegations, obviously false info on the sexual preferences of an Armagh priest etc etc etc but it would take too long. We see again today that info posted on the blog is taken at face value without verification - the stuff about MB being on a board in Maynooth. Maybe true, maybe not, but point is no verification is done.

So yeh, ZeroTime, I'll grant that they might be brazen in hypocrisy. But feigning outrage over something you don't believe to be objectively morally wrong is also hypocrisy. One might well say the adversaries are well matched.

      Delete
    3. 1. The outrage is real.
      2. I give up.

    4. I do not hate the Roman Catholic Church.

I hate the corruption that is in it and that has overtaken it.

I believe in VOLUNTARY clerical celibacy - not enforced.

I believe that sexual morality is a PART of ALL MORALITY but not the the B ALL AND END ALL of it.

I believe that the Christian Ideal is sex within a loving and committed relationship.

I believe that other sexual expressions fall short of this ideal but are not always and necessarily sinful.

I think to uphold chastity and celibacy by your vocational choice while at the same time be deliberately sexually promiscuous is the sin of hypocrisy and BEARING FALSE WITNESS etc.

I think to preach one thing and hold ordinary Catholics to it and do what you want yourself is blatant Pharisee-ism.

I believe to be a Church that says that homosexuality is a serious disorder but have your church run by promiscuous homosexuals is a sinful contradiction.

      Delete
    5. I agree with much of what you say as it happens. But as a Christian leader you do have a very specific responsibility and I think you have failed. Not in reporting some of the more outrageous details - no. That was fair.

Where it all fell apart was allowing peripheral individuals to be named and shamed on your blog with scant evidence and with no regard for their life after seminary or any chance to redeem themselves for a mistake. It fell apart when you allow unverified allegations to be published - the Armagh priest issue being a particularly unsavoury example. For seemingly having no comprehension that a person might have fallen into sin whilst a seminarian but can recover from it - granted, that didn't apply to all but it did to some. For repeatedly targeting an individual who does not appear to have been sexually active in seminary but who is perceived to be feminine in manner. Those are just examples.

So while I agree with some of your premises and I agree that some of the more egregious cases are a scandal - especially when someone is ordained deacon - it is nevertheless the case that the indiscriminate and unreflective nature of the campaign has fundamentally damaged its credibility. I do not understand why day after day we have complaints that the bishops and Rome do not take this seriously - if it had been handled better and more smartly, they might have.

What will happen now is that I will get accused of being one of the seminarians, or that I am part of the cover-up, or that I am supporting sin in the seminary. It is as regular as clockwork that there will be those shrill screams at any comment that tries to look at the situation somewhat dispassionately and who also believes that not only Roman Catholic bishops must be held to account for their actions, but all Catholics bishops as well.

In short, if you were genuinely interested in reform, things would have been handled very differently. As it is, the hysteria of the past year has simply led people to shrug off the blog. Sad but true as far as I can see.

      Delete
    6. I sense your integrity and sincerity.

But I'm afraid you do not have all the facts.

Do you know for instance about what all priests get up to in Fatima, Lourdes and World Youth Day?

Have you spoken to parents whose sons had priests "come on" to them at church events and venues who bishops will not even answer those parent's letters or meet them?

Teenage boys given priest's mobile numbers and asked not to tell parents? Grooming?

Of course we all fall into sin - especially me.

But there is a difference between falling into sin and being a premeditated priest or seminarian following an underworld lifestyle and planning the seduction of others into the future?

      I am interested in reform.

But do you indict the Devil and hold the court in Hell.

I have watched all this for 48 years since I entered seminary in 1970.

I have further watched all this for 41 years since my own ordination in 1970.

I have been to there and back.

I have completed 48 years "research" and know the cowboys from the Indians.

    7. Pat I think the other thing which needs to be repeated ad nauseum, just because people don't realise what the hierarchy is like until they've dealt with them is THE PROPER CHANNELS DON'T WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE.
The reporters who broke the abuse story in Boston commented that it was exactly like dealing with mafia bosses - nothing meant what it seemed to.
Pat you're doing the right thing.
      A) it has drawn people out of the woodwork and made them show their behaviour in the comments
      B) sooner or later one of these priests will hit the press (again). Pat is right that this is a long-term plan because once one priest falls, the whole edifice collapses and *nobody* named on here will be left with a shred of dignity.

In the meantime this blog provides information for young men going to seminary. What appears on here is the standard clerical gossip about any seminary or order. The difference is people can now get the kniwledge of what a place is like before they go there.

However, given the fact that Cardinal Parolin (it is claimed) has met the new Nuncio to brief him on the "Irish problem", then perhaps they are listening at some level.

This business of Maynooth has been reported in the international press. So it's not just your blog though you have certainly led the charge.

What happened to the threats of legal action last year? Also, Éamon Martin calling in the police?

I take it these have not been followed up so obviously were attempts to unsuccessfully threaten/warn you off.

Why has Gorgeous and Puck not sued for defamation of character? Is it because they haven't a leg to stand on and wouldn't bear scrutiny?

The entire carry on is astonishing. If these men are ordained their two bishops should be taken into a secure unit.

One thing is clear - Pope Benedict's Apostolic Visitation of the Irish Church was a sham, a charade.

How was it possible for a Dean about whom there were reservations expressed in the Irish College, Rome, (his techniques) was able to simply walk into the same job in Maynooth?

Maynooth is a disaster. It is a blight upon the Irish Church.

I believe Sean Brady also has questions to answer as to the promotion of a Maynooth dean - his interest in erections and nocturnal emissions etc - all reported to the Gardai.
