US PAEDOPHILE PRIEST / MURDERER RETIRED TO IRELAND!

Priest who came to Ireland in 1990s linked to nun's murder in new Netflix documentary The Keepers

A priest who moved to Ireland from the US in the mid 1990s has been linked to the murder of a nun in Netflix's new documentary The Keepers.

The seven part series, which debuts on the streaming site on Friday, examines the unsolved murder of Catholic nun Sister Cathy Cesnik, in Baltimore in 1969.

Nobody has ever been charged despite a lead emerging in the 1990s when one of her former students at Keough High School came forward to claim she was sexually abused by the high school's chaplain Father Joseph Maskell.
She also revealed that she was taken to see Sister Cathy's undiscovered body and was told, 'See what happens when you say bad things about people.'

Police believe she was murdered to prevent her revealing abuse at the school.
In The Keepers director Ryan White goes beyond the murder and uncovers clergy abuse, repressed memories and government and religious institutions that he says “at best, dropped the ball over the last 45 years – and, at worst, covered it up.”

The Sunday Times reports that the late Fr Maskell fled to Ireland in 1994 after police arrived to arrest him but that in correspondence between Fr Maskell and the Bishop he claimed he had been given temporary leave in America.
He was employed by the health service as a psychologist.  When the diocese contacted Baltimore they were told about the allegations against him and this information was given to the health service.

However, the priest continued to work as a psychologist in private practice in Wexford until 1998.  He later returned to America and died in 2001.

Police investigating the murder in Baltimore exhumed his body earlier this year and DNA results are expected this summer.

PAT SAYS:

Over the past two evenings I have watched THE KEEPERS on Netflix on my TV.

I thought that I had heard it all about the evil in the Roman Catholic Church and that I could not be shocked.

THE KEEPERS shocked me to the very core of my being.

It is the story of 100+ girls being abused in a Baltimore Catholic school by the school chaplain Father Joseph Maskell.

One of the nun teachers at the school found out what happened and she was murdered!

Father Maskell brought a girl student he was abusing to see the dead body in a ditch to show her what would happen to her if she talked.

Father Maskell was also a police chaplain and the police covered up for him.

In fact he was providing school girls to police officers and others to rape.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore covered up for Father Maskell and moved him from parish to parish!

When the going got tough for Maskell he WAS MOVED TO WEXFORD IN IRELAND where he died without having to answer for his horrific crimes!

DID ANYONE IN THE IRISH CATHOLIC CHURCH HELP HIDE HIM ???

We thought we had heard it all with the child abuse and the Tuam babies.

THERE IS MUCH MORE HIDDEN!

THERE IS MUCH MORE TO COME OUT!

Not just abuse and rape - but murder!

How anyone can support the Catholic Church after all this is totally beyond my comprehension ???

  2. The Maynooth ordination class piece for 2017 has just been unveiled here in Maynooth!! Well, it wasn't really unveiled - it was put up on the wall very quietly...

And guess who is on it?? Deacon Gorgeous!! So it seems very clear that DM intends to ordain him.

This is the talk of the seminary at the moment...Even the deacons didn't want him on it, but the SEMINARY COUNCIL (i.e. Mullaney, Collins, Prior) decreed that his photo was to be put on it. Just in case anyone was thinking that things had changed here this year.

  3. Pat, I don't think I can get you a photo of it... There is a cctv camera very close to the class piece. I'd have Fanny Mullaney after me if it was found out that I had taken a picture.

Have you any contacts in Maynooth, Pat, who could go in and take a photo? It's on the main cloister near the entrance.

    3. That is pretty odd since he would not be part of the Maynooth class - he would be Rome. He wasn't on the diaconate ordination board of last year though SJ appears on it - still up there beaming down on us! If you want to take a photo then pretend you are on a phone call and take it surreptitiously - it really is dead easy - but I rather suspect this is, as Donald would say, FAKE NEWS....

      Delete
    4. Actually 22:53, there are others on the class pieces in recent years who studied in Rome - it's a way of making it look like there are more being ordained from Maynooth than there actually is. Also it is not a "diaconate ordination board" - the ones pictured are normally about to be ordained to the priesthood. So in fact Deacon Byrne is pictured with his classmates. The reason SJ was on last year's one rather than this year's is that he had finished his academic studies. So, no, there is nothing fake about this news.

  4. Just wondering if Maynooth is more akin to Hogwarts than Alice in Wonderland the way things are reported on here. Certainly damage limitation appears to be the attitude of the Irish church of the past. Hands need to be held up for genuine wrongdoing and going forward needs to be more spiritual transparent and people friendly. On a different note please spare a prayer for the people of Manchester following last night's horrific bombing.

    3. They're also not ancient, dating only from the counter-reformation time, when the RCs realised the academic Protestanta had the advantage in argument over their haphazardly-trained priests.
The clerical students up till then would be put to some reading and studying, either with another priest or in a school established by the bishop. To this day some religious priests will do all their studies in-house: I have known monks like this, for example.
The advantage of the older system was it kept the training closer to the ground and more in line with the older idea of vocation, which was about whether you could live the life. The newer idea of a call from God both forces people to stay in vocations and sets them up to fail.
What I would say is I feel the seminary system now is a pale shadow of what it was intended to be. The bullying and twistedness in some seminaries is terrible. Pat is right that it's had it's day - even in the 'glory days' of the huge classes of the middle twentieth century it had already failed. The 1950s priest factories let out a stream of stunted boys, who either went off the rails in paedophilia or alcoholism, or else gave up at Vatican 2 and have been de-inspiring their flock ever since.

    2. I certainly like the idea that prospective seminarians should be at least 25 years old. I was shocked when our parish priest announced that his loyalty was to his fellow priests and his bishop. The laity do no deserve any loyalty, I decided he meant.

What is Mullaney hiding or who is he protecting?
What is Collins hiding or who is he protecting?
What is Prior hiding or who is he protecting?

  12. To the Seminarian snitch at 11.15. We were told not to speak about Michael Byrne, especially to Pat Buckley. We suspect who you are going behind backs and tittle tattling. It is also false to claim that Michael's fellow Deacons didn't want him on the picture, you are just a jealous and spiteful person. He knows that he was instructed not to talk to Buckley or any journalist about our college. These people are enemies of Maynooth and the church. I think he should pack his bags and go tonight after dark and never come back. We may have things that need sorted but this vile blog or the media is not the place to sort them. They should be sorted inside the church and college. Never hear of washing your dirty linen in public Judas.

  14. 15:58 - the disgrace to the Church and our seminary is the one who "instructed" us not to talk to Pat or journalists. But we weren't merely instructed were we? There was a threat of legal action too. Rather the actions and threats of a tyrant than a Catholic priest, of someone who wants to control seminarians and keep the truth under wraps. And you're supporting that while having the audacity to call the seminarian at 9:38 a traitor?

You're quite right, of course, and in fact very courageous.
If nothing else these drips of information revealing what life is like in Maynooth will let others know before they go there. Control is always the first weapon of the cult - control of speech and information. The second weapon is isolation and a delineation of 'them' and 'us' - in this case, 'Don't go letting Pat Buckley know what's going on here, he is the enemy'.
If Maynooth's house was in good order there would be no problem letting anyone know what was going on.
To Maynooth seminarians: you're in a cult!

      Delete
    3. Exactly, Pat - but this is why you have to keep the focus on Maynooth...The fact that we were told not to talk to you or other journalists shows that they are under pressure. They are concerned about staying in power at any cost...even if it means kicking out decent seminarians.

I know you're no fan of the RC Church or the seminary system, Pat, but we've lost many good men thanks to the current regime in Maynooth. It also seems that Mullaney will soon be appointed as president - and I think you know what direction things will go in when that happens.
