BIG CLOUD HANGING OVER DIARMUID MARTIN

A COUPLE OF GUYS IN BRAY SACRISTY

WHILE THE DEPARTURE OF GORGEOUS IS BEING BOTH CONFIRMED AND DENIED BY VARIOUS SOURCES AND PEOPLE - THERE IS ONE THING FOR CERTAIN - THE WHOLE AFFAIR LEAVES DIARMUID MARTIN UNDER A HUGE CLOUD!

This could would be more apparent if it was being highlighted in the media. However DM is a great media favourite and to date they have been adopting a "hands off" policy.

However a Dublin priest got in touch with me today to tell me that AN INTERNAL CHURCH INVESTIGATION has been launched into the Gorgeous / Diarmuid matter.

The priest could not tell me who was being investigated - Gorgeous or Diarmuid or both of them.

He also claimed that after the alleged rape incident in Bray  Diarmuid had discussions with someone in the GARDAI.

After this it was decided that this matter should also be part of the internal church investigation.

The Dublin PP who gave me this information tells me he only knows about this because a friend and fellow PP of his has been asked to sit on the investigation panel.

According to this PP Gorgeous formally submitted his request to leave to DM in recent days.

The internal investigation has also spoken to two other seminarians about this matter and their evidence is vital in the proceedings.

DUBLIN PRIESTS:

There is a growing anger and dissatisfaction among Dublin priests with regard to DM.

Apart from the Gorgeous affair priests are angered about:

1. DM's perceived favouritism towards priests of the homosexual persuasion.

2. DM's remoteness from most of his priests.

3. DM's time spent away from Dublin on travels.

4. DM's failure to publish a full list of diocesan changes over the last couple of years.

5. DM's poor relationship with his auxiliary bishops - Walsh and Field.

THE GORGEOUS BOMB:

Priests are also concerned that there is a "GORGEOUS BOMB" waiting to explode.

If he stays the bomb will explode one way.

If he leaves the bomb will explode another way.

Has he - or will he be offered a "SEVERANCE PACKAGE" that will keep him from telling all he knows?

Will such a severance package work - and for how long?

After the bomb explodes what will the fallout be?

Will the fallout come during DM's time or will it all fall on his successors head?

Dublin priests are also talking a lot about DM's successor. Will it be:

- Brendan Leahy - the Bishop of Limerick?

- Paul Tighe - a bishop in Rome (one of DM's favourites)?

- Denis Nulty - the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin?

- Monsignor Kevin Gillespie of the Congregation of the Clergy in Rome?

- A mysterious and complete outsider proposed by the new Nigerian Nuncio Archbishop Okolo?

In any event there is one thing for certain. Just now the DUBLIN PRESBYTERATE is feeling very vulnerable, insecure and under valued.

Not a great legacy for media darling Diarmuid Martin :-(

  2. Pat,
Your info cannot emanate from one Anonymous Dublin PP, you are too well informed.
90% of what you state about DM is accurate.

He is despised by the majority of the Dublin clergy. He does show complete disdain for them. He treats them like shite in the matter of appointments. He uses the Council of Priests in a cynical way to rubber stamp what he wants.
He is more absent than present in Dublin.

His likely successors that you quote are frightening. Leahy, so wrapped up in the Focolare sect as to be suspect.
Tighe, a great talker of the talk but nothing beyond that.
Nulty, a dacent prror cratur best left in the wilderness of Kildare and Leighlin.

We can only pin our hopes on the new Nuncio's choice. Let's hope that being Nigerian it wont be awarded to the highest bidder.
Keep up the good work Bucko, you're the only forum for an oppressed clergy.

  3. Good riddance. However, isn't it strange that he officiated at the diaconate ordinations recently in Rome? Surely someone who had intended resigning would not participate so publicly? Perhaps it was a recent decision.

  4. Dear Pat,

A couple of things could be happening:

    The worst fears in all of this are about to be confirmed and (a) very significant purple hatted head(s) is/are about to roll;

Or someone is messing you about. And this is all manufactured "fake news". Are you sure of your PP source in Dublin?

  5. I have no doubt in my mind that Brendan Leahy will be the next AB of Dublin.

  6. If they replace Dermo with Paul Tighe or Gillespie who have not been in the Dublin picture. A massive mistake. Leahy the obvious choice. Although I heard martin Cosgrove from Arklow if they want one of their own.

    1. My present answer is no.

However, if he changed in a number of ways, and those changes were lasting, I would explore his vocation with him.

God can call anyone to serve him. But there must must be honesty, integrity, boundaries and an integrity of life.

I don't view Gorgeous as a BAD man.

I see him as a man who has issues to address.

    2. If Pat said yes to such an ordination as Georgeous then Pat would have - at one swipe - completely swept aside and thrown into the trash can everything that he, Pat has fought for and supported for years on this blog. All the objections and principles etc would count for nothing! Either Pat sincerely believes that the promiscuity and utter flouting of morality in Georgeous' behaviour was wrong or he doesn't. What do you think @poster 7.51?
It was you who asked the question

  8. Dear Pat as you well know there are many ticking time bombs in the Irish RC church. This is but one instance. Never before have I seen a seminary student pandered to it so shielded by a bishop. The bishop is either very 'fond' of him or afraid if him.

In my experience, Magna Carta, priests are much like the rest of us - plodding along and doing the best they can.

You have some who are pretty much useless and others who are exceptionally good.

Then you have those in the middle - like the rest of the human race - who are fair to middling - average.

Try and address your issues, Magna Carta, that are causing you such deep unhappiness. Help is available. God bless you.

You think I need help? I don't need help, but I do want justice. I want the clergy, for once in their f****n' useless, parasitical, sponging lives, actually to obey Christ's command and become SERVANTS. Episcopal pricks who spend up to 4 million quid renovating their palatial homes are not behaving as servants.

And why are they, as single men, living in such large homes? They just don't get Christ's point, do they? Nor do they want to. And so they live self-important and self-indulgent lives. How the f**k can these ****** guide anyone to God? They don't know him.

Why aren't you angry at this? Don't you care that this evil exists in the Body of Christ and that these pharisaical ****** are the means by which it enters the body and begins to destroy it. Are you, perhaps, one of these ******?

They don't know God? Really? Do YOU know him?

I urge you, for what it is worth, to attend to whatever issues have led you into becoming such a deeply unhappy and damaged person.

Read my comment again, you ass. I was alluding to a certain Irish bishop who allegedly spent up to 4 million pounds, raised by ordinary Catholic parishioners, to renovate and refurbish his already palatial home. Not one of these Catholics could, I'm certain, spend that amount of money rennovating and refurbishing HIS home. So when a Roman Catholic bishop (allegedly, a disciple of that poor Nazarene, Jesus the Christ) spends such a vast sum on his home, then I do have every right to drop the odd swear word in protest at his unChrist-like extravagance. So, too, has every Cathoilc whose money he spent, but whose consent he did not seek.

As another lay person (who by grace of God is a regular Mass attender),I must say I agree with you that this relentless obsession about who will be the bishop here and who will be bishop there is becoming very tedious indeed. Then in the next breath! - bishops are useless and serve no purpose! Absolutely no energy or focus on any other inspirational spirituality is apparently of any importance to them. Indeed the most balanced and uplifting posts often come from lay persons who don't share this obsession with who gets a "red cap" or who is secretly plotting a takeover. Life's too short, guys so give it a rest..

  14. @ 11.26 I have been behind the scenes in the church. As a lay person it really shocked me. The priests have absolutely no human rights, the bishops have absolute power. It is a great worry to the priests who the next bishop will be. If the bishop takes a dislike to them, he can and often does make their life a complete misery. I have a very strong faith and knows there are seams of pure gold in the church, but I cannot approve of the way it is run. Priests deserve far better than they get. At work I had freedom of speech, a job description, access to a union, sick pay, a right to retire with a pension from 55 onwards, a right to a family. They have the rights of a peasant in the middle ages. I know that our priest stays because he loves the parishioners to bits.

    1. What planet are you living on Jane! From many of the things I have seen on Pat's blog and from my vantage point, priests have as many and more rights and privileges than many of their parishioners (particularly in disadvantaged areas) Some of us don't regular income, a warm home with free time to watch TV, pray and read etc and no mouths to feed. They chose their lifestyle. As far as I am hearing, some of them are pretty free and easy with going out there to indulge in whatever 'rights' they fancy. If bishops who maintain discipline are so abhorrent to them, why are they jostling to grab the bouquet of the next episcopal vacancy? I'm afraid, Jane, the real world is not so divided into goodies and baddies as you think! (People get older, inescapable fact. They don't always get wiser...)

      Delete
    2. 12.05 I tend to agree with Jane. My experience was that I was the property of the bishop. My one fear was that I'd end up somewhere I did not know and I feared potentially living in a big house alone and in the middle of nowhere

    6. At their ordination priests vow to obey the bishop - they can only expect to be moved around as he pleases. If they can't live with that bit they shouldn't sign up.
In my own lay life I'm bound by the obligations of my employment contract and lease on my flat. I understood these contracts before signing them.
Priests have signed away their freedom of choice, as it were. And yes, many lay people's are heavily constrained by family, money, and other considerations.

  17. It is indeed a source of amazement and puzzlement that Archbishop Diarmuid Questionmark is completely spellbound by this deacon! (In the photo taken in Bray sacristy doesn't Archbishop Questionmark look a little dazed?)

Diarmuid Questionmark is not noted for human warmth or being particularly personable. One would think that anyone else, who has caused as much trouble as Deacon Byrne, would be out the door so fast he wouldn't have time to get his coat.

But for some reason ??Diarmuid?? Is absolutely mesmerised by Micky Jack - in thraldom to him. What on earth could be the reason???

Such is the spell cast over ??DM?? by Gorgeous that one wonders is Abp ?? still in full possession of his facilities?

Has MJB perhaps waved something in front of ??D??'s eyes, inducing in him a deep trancelike state??

The whole affair defies logic. It appears the spell woven by Gorgeous Byrne cannot be unspun.

    Will it prove ??D??'s undoing?

You forget texting is a new form of writing which is not subject to the full application of rules of grammar and syntax. It's similar to the form of early MSS where there are no capital letters and no spaces between words because space was at a premium.

So it's rather a waste of time to point out discrepancies between both forms.

Rather the opposite I would say - - some of the regulars on here can say a great deal in two or three succinct and well-constructed grammatical sentences. It's actually just as easy to be correct and one's message is much easier to quickly read and understand. (We do our best to assist if necessary)
