MAYNOOTH CHANGES FORCED ON IRISH BISHOPS

THE IRISH CATHOLIC BISHOPS HAVE BEEN FORCED BY ROME TO MAKE MAJOR CHANGES AT MAYNOOTH SEMINARY AND HAVE BEEN WARNED THAT THIS IS THE LAST CHANCE THEY WILL HAVE TO STOP MAYNOOTH BEING CLOSED BY ROME!
I have been told this by a senior Irish cleric who is very close to the movers and shakers in the Eternal City.
Among the changes forced on the bishops are:
1. The appointment of a new interim president with the shortened term of three instead of five years.
2. The appointment in the near future of a "Pro Rector" who will be responsible instead of the president for the formation of priests.
The bishops admit these factors in a carefully worded, face saving statement, they issued yesterday after the bishop trustees met at Maynooth. They said:
"The Trustees of the College, in consultation with the relevant Congregations of the Holy See, have agreed to revise the governance structures of the College, with particular reference to the Seminary and the Pontifical University as two interrelated but distinct entities".
Here is the statement from the bishop trustees:
"The Trustees of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth have appointed Reverend Professor Michael Mullaney as President of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth for the next three years, with effect from 1 September 2017.  In welcoming the appointment Archbishop Eamon Martin, Chairman of the Trustees, said:
“I warmly congratulate and send my prayerful good wishes to Father Michael Mullaney on his appointment to the role of President of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth.  Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth is not only home to our national seminary, but its Pontifical University offers courses to almost one thousand students – women and men, full time and part time, resident and non-resident, seminarians and religious from all over the country.  The Trustees are firmly committed to the College as a key contributor to the future of the Church in Ireland as it prepares both clergy and lay people to fully exercise their baptismal calling and bring their gifts to the service of God’s people”.
“In appointing Father Mullaney as President for a period of three years, the Trustees of the College, in consultation with the relevant Congregations of the Holy See, have agreed to revise the governance structures of the College, with particular reference to the Seminary and the Pontifical University as two interrelated but distinct entities. Plans for the further development of a vibrant pontifical university, alongside the implementation of the vision for priestly formation set out in the new universal norms The Gift of the Priestly Vocation published by the Congregation for the Clergy last December, have led us to reflect on the complementary but distinct roles and responsibilities of a Seminary Rector and the President of a Pontifical University.  We have therefore decided to prepare for the appointment in due course of a Pro-Rector with dedicated responsibility for seminary formation at Maynooth.”

NEW BROOM - TOM SURLIS

The statement further states that the current controversial Director of Formation - Father Paul Prior - is leaving and is being replaced by Father Tom Surlis the former president of St. Nathys College, Ballaghadarreen.

PAUL PRIOR
A source in Paul Prior's home diocese of Kilmore (Cavan) has told me that Paul Prior has been offered a sabbatical before returning to the diocese and parish ministry. The sabbatical and its length has not yet been agreed.

The Maynooth / Gay / Grindr scandal broke on this Blog just over 12 months ago and then spread to the Irish and international media.

I have faithfully copied much information since then to a number of sources in Rome.

I am also told that the former papal nuncio, Charlie Brown, sent a great deal of information and internet / press cuttings to his bosses in Rome.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Also a number of highly influential Irish Catholic lay person have communicated with their Roman contacts about their concerns and other matters concerning the Irish Church.

The Rome authorities were quite concerned about the Maynooth scandal continuing and possibly overshadowing the likely visit of Pope Francis to the World Family event in Dublin in 2018.

I have my doubts that these changes will address the deep seated issues at Maynooth.

Many would agree with me that it needs to be closed and a new beginning made elsewhere.

Only time will tell.

Either way - Maynooth has entered the LAST CHANCE SALOON.

I would urge readers, priests, seminarians and others to keep us informed.

I will continue to collate all reports and forward them to my contacts.

  1. Actually Mullaney is worse than Connolly..much worse..what the hell is wrong with our bishops?? (i think 'Hell' is the appropriate word here.) This is sickening news after everything that has been happening..after everything that has been exposed..Mullaney is one bad son of a bitch...God help the Church in Ireland...

  2. reluctantly I have to agree with the poster at 23:57. I can't believe he has been appointed. This man appears on the surface to be genuinely holy, caring and supportive. However, this is not the case. 'Holy' he may strive to be, but caring he is not.

With even greater reluctance I must use the word 'bully'. Many people will be hurt by this appointment and I think we should recognize that hurt, and I do so here now. Maynooth is in for a very tough time and I suspect, from what I've heard, that a papal visit will not occur in light of what will be made public by those within the structures of Maynooth.

Pray for the church and its faithful.

    1. The only way to change / close Maynooth is to expose everything that has / is going on there.

The only real place to do that is on this blog as the media will only publish material that appears elsewhere first it is brought to their attention.

All those hurt by Maynooth must now come together to tell what happened to them and what they know - even if they do not like me or this blog.

    2. I too would agree that Fanny is worse. Connolly was weak and a coward; he would listen but not be able to act. Fanny on the other hand is forged in the fires of cynicism by the Bollox Clifford. He is this generation's Clifford and acts accordingly, trampling on the church's victims to ensure they are silent. He won't be upset by not being a Mons.... because he will be thinking of a future role in Dublin. Maynooth is but a stop-gap in his ambitions.

But I do love the irony of a Fr training priests and a Mons training deacons.

  3. OMG, there is such a place as Ballaghadarreen? We always thought our grandmother was pulling our legs when she said she was brought up in that place. She was born in NYC in 1890, but her folks hated the USA and took her back to Ireland.

  4. St Joseph's Young Priests Society money, grants and funding has been wasted and squandered for years. Spent quickly by Seminarians in Bars, Clubs and many other establishments. It makes mugs out of good decent people who give generously towards it. I'm sure an odd jock strap has been purchased thanks to St Josephs YPS.

  5. "We have therefore decided to prepare for the appointment in due course of a Pro-Rector with dedicated responsibility for seminary formation at Maynooth.”

Big changes are afoot for sure in Maynooth.

The bishops' statement whilst being laced with diplomacy and the usual non-confrontational language, I believe is astounding when one considers that Maynooth shall have a full-time Rector whose sole focus will be priestly formation and seminary governance.

I am sure that Connolly and Mullaney have been covering their backsides with the bishops behind the scenes by crying about the fact that they had to teach, administrate and try to oversee a seminarian body in what is now a way too over-sized building for an ever diminishing cohort of seminarians.

Mullaney will be last President of Maynooth as we know it. I know, unfortunately, he will be there for three years. But the Church does move painfully slow, as has been shown time and time again.

  6. Pat, I am an ex seminarian of Maynooth who is deeply hurt and angry at the way I was treated there and the things I saw going on at a very high level in the Church. I do not always agree with your views and actions. I have been keeping my silence until now hoping that Rome would close Maynooth. I am horrified at this news of a Maynooth mish mash and I am now ready to go public with all I know including what I know about one bishop. Would you be prepared to meet me and a current seminarian in Dublin to talk and for me to show you very sad material? It would have to be in total confidence as I do not want media attention on me or my family. We would also need to meet in a quiet and non public venue. If you agree to this I will call you. Is your number from the south 00447900287283?

    1. Dear Ex Seminarian, of course I will meet you and your friend in Dublin.

I can meet you in the private house owned by a friend and no one will in in that house during our meeting except the three of us.

      You have my correct number.

I promise you that whatever we decide to do we will keep you, your seminarian friend and your family out of it.

If you wish I can be the only one knowing your true identity.

    3. Dear 8.51 I wish you luck. I once went public, thought the world would back me. Boy was I wrong. That being said looking at the bigger picture if I stayed as I was God knows what state I would be in now-if any! By all means speak to Pat. It seems like something that needs to be done. As you rightly point out protect your own back and your family. This does not mean you have to be a prisoner like someone in a 1960's spy film. Perhaps too future ministry might be worth exploring if appropriate. Thinking back Media can be kind but sometimes cruel and tends to have a very short memory. Prayers and good wishes to you and yours

  7. You are right Pat, the bishops have been coerced into this move by the Vatican.

I heard that Rome wanted that stinking hole of a seminary shut down immediately but that the bishops struck this final compromise in an effort to keep Maynooth open - as it is their flagship.

People are fooled if they think things will change with Fanny in charge.

It is good that Connolly and Prior will not be coming back to Maynooth in shape or form, however, 50% of the corrupt Seminary Council remain in place.

  9. Pat, I'm led to believe you are still sitting on a dossier over Gorgeous Byrne which includes facial pictures in uncompromising situations. I'm also led to believe you may publish these on the eve or after his Ordination. Would it not be fair to do so now to avoid major embarrassment to him, his family and the Archbishop of Dublin. You should reveal all now Pat in fairness. Dublin PP

Can someone tell Patsy how the system works in Maynooth and how it will work in the future. The Seminary and Pontifical university are under the auspices of the Holy See. NUI Maynooth is a seperate legal entity who share the campus grounds.

Michael Mullaney will be president of the Pontifical University (NOT NUIM). The Pontifical includes mostly lay students. In time a rector will be appointed to look after the seminary side of things.

Patsy I wonder did you even bother to read the statement from the Bishops, or did you run like lightening to get the story published. anything with 'Maynooth Seminary' to get a few hits on the times website.

  16. Buckley you are a total disgrace and very nasty. Why would you post this stuff on the day of Ordination? Michael Byrne doesn't deserve this, he is a kind man who doesn't lie and is open about being gay. You have hounded him and you should be ashamed, I for one will be proud to be at his Ordination. I also think you've been cruel to the Archbishop of Dublin who is the ordaining Prelate.

    1. If deacon Byrne is a practicing and promiscuous homosexual then he must not be ordained. If there is photographic evidence of his sinful behaviour, it should be sent to the Nuncio and to Rome (not published here for titilation).

If you have the evidence, Pat, also send it to a newspaper but don't publish it here as many stomachs would revolt at the sights. Also do it soon and get it over with. This has been going on too long.

If Dermot Martin is compromised with deacon Byrne, its high time he was out as well.

    2. I asked Diarmuid Martin directly on the telephone if he was compromised with Deacon Byrne.

      He answered:

"I have only been in a room alone with him on one occasion".

Its not about being nasty or unkind to anyone.

It is about saving people from themselves and from causing hurt to others.

    3. 16:50: YOU ARE A FOOL OR WORSE!

I would surmise you are either one of Byrne's clerical lover boys, or else you are one of those brain dead idiots who enabled encouraged and supported the wicked abusers here in the recent history of the church to carry on with impunity their life and soul destroying activities.

Pat is right in that the only language these scumbags understand is exposure.

  17. If you have such evidence publish it in time for him to make a reply. Even a sinner deserves due process. If DM then ordained him he will have no excuse - rather it will be a clear and conscious decision.

Pat, it seems some people don't get it so could you repeat what is going on, very simply, for the cheap seats?
For some bizarre reason this post has set 'The Good Ship Lollipop' going round my head all day: I hope this is merely a reflection on what seminaries are really like and not a psychic link to Byrne choosing the hymns for his ordination.
Btw I'm sure he's perfectly kind - it's just Catholic clerics aren't supposed to a) get f*cked up the arse or b) post pictures of it on dating sites...
