NULTY PRAISES MAYNOOTH 4

NULTY WITH GORGEOUS

ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON THE ROMAN BISHOP OF KILDARE AND LAUGHLIN PRAISED THE MAYNOOTH 4 AT THE BEGINNING OF AN ORDINATION CEREMONY - CONNOLLY, MULLANEY, PRIOR AND COLLINS.

He was ordaining one of Gorgeous' and King Puck's classmates to the priesthood - David Vard. Gorgeous, Kink Puck and the Tuam deacon, Aidan Gallagher were all noticable by their absence.

DAVID VARD

The MAYNOOTH 4 were also absent.

There was no need for Nulty to name the Maynooth 4. He could simply have said that he wished to thank those concerned with the training of David Vard.

But my impression was that Nulty did this deliberately to give the TWO FINGERS to all those who have been deeply concerned with the GOINGS ON at Maynooth! In doing this he was totally ignoring the legitimate concerns of many people - and even the concerns of Diarmuid Martin of Dublin who withdrew his students from Maynooth.

This to me shows a large arrogance on Nulty's behalf. But of course that does not surprise me. I have formed the impression that he is an arrogant character anyway.

I have noticed that he likes to hang around as "one of the lads" dressed in casuals and khaki shorts. And at the same time he likes to purchase and wear very high end vestments and mitres.

I have a very good nose for these fellas. We are dealing here with a "deep", ambitious and right wing company man.

I am told he has his eyes set on Diarmuid Martin's job in Dublin in three years time?

And when it comes to the RC Empire - we are dealing with a "MY MOTHER, RIGHT OR WRONG" CHARACTER.

ughh!

Watch him !

  1. You're talking total crap. He's not remotely like that. And he's had those chasubles for years.

  3. You have more than once berated others for their vestments, yet you yourself have not eschewed clerical garb or vestments in your own ministry. You seem to believe you have some gift to see deep into the minds and hearts of others, especially bishops and priests, but what comes across, to me at least, is a deep seated bitterness directed towards anyone who ministers in a way you don't agree with. That people disagree with you does not ipso facto make them bad people.

  7. Yes those Slabbinck vestments are expensive but be fair, Pat, if you google his name virtually every photo shows him wearing the same vestments you show here. Not like some bishops who are continually shown in a different get up - and of new vestments, not old ones which escaped the purges after Vatican II.
The other thing is Nulty's CV is different from some bishops' - he has spent a fair time as a pastor, rather than hiding in curial offices. His education was also completely in Ireland - not a hint of a Roman degree on his CV.
Yes he thanked the Maynooth 4 but we don't know his opinion of the formation there and it's only polite to say thank you.
I'm sure as an RC priest or bishop, a man is obliged to spend time with many people he mighr personally think are odious.

    3. I once read suppressing your sexuality can manifest itself in other ways, like an obsession with vestments, for example, or being over-fussy and queenie like many these freaky he-virgins are.

  8. Denis is one of the good guys - always cheerful at a time when there is little to be sanguine about. He comes from a well-off background, big Meath farmers around Slane. Physically, he's head and shoulders above the rest. Don't berate him because he stands out. God and his genetic make-up did that for him. Intellectually, he average. Spiritually, he has something to offer - like everyone. Personally, he's good, decent, altruistic, humourous, prayerful, thoughtful and hard-working.

Your criticism reminds me of the line in the Gospel. 'We played the pipe for you and you did not dance. We sang a dirge for you and you did not wail.'

Come on, Pat. Give him a chance. It was gracious of him to thank those involved in formation. God knows they need it.

    2. I met Bishop McNulty last year at a conference. Before he was due to speak i asked him would he be taking questions after his lecture and he replied that he surely would. But straight after his speech he headed for the exit door with no questions invited. I was sitting beside a side exit so i rushed out and met him again at the front. This was on the day when he was sending his new seminarians to Maynooth. I pleaded with him that Maynooth was not a Holy place to be sending them etc but he replied to me in a dismissive manner that Maynooth was a very "wholesome place". He was abrupt and arrogant with me and just didn't want to know..

  9. When I was ordained a deacon from the same class usually officiated at the ceremony. Mentioning the other lads especially if there is controversy is to say the least insensitive. That being said every good wish to Fr Vard.

I cannot believe that after being a priest for 25 years, and at the age of 49 or 50, that Paul Prior will actually be serving in a parish for the first time. Though he'll probably be given a sabbatical after all his hard work lol in Gaynooth. What other job, apart from the religious life and academia provides sabbaticals, usually in very agreeable places?

I wonder if Paul Prior will go straight to PP, bypassing the tedious curate stage, or will he get a desk job in his diocese, or even the episcopal conference offices in his beloved Gaynooth?

  13. I remember Denis in Maynooth. He was nice, friendly, always cheerful, which wasn't always the case with IV Divines who had been hardened by 6 or 7 years of Maynooth formation. He never came across as the ambitious type, definitely not a mitre chaser I think.

  14. Can't for the life of me think why anyone would want to be a bishop! You have to wear one of those hideous heavy hats and nobody loves you any more. Why would you want to do that to yourself? From then on, you're in the glare of the headlights and everybody is poised ready to pounce...

  15. What is it about Bishops wearing baseball caps? First Amy and now Nulty. I remember when Bishops had a bit of presence about them and came across as Bishops. Now they want to be one of the "lads" and appear all hip and with it. I think one of the complaints about WYD is the younger clergy wanted to be like the younger lads, dressing up in designer gear, wearing shades and exchanging mobile numbers with younger men. It's all very inappropriate the whole thing.

    1. I think we heard enough about World Youth event in Poland from that farmer man whose son attended. Is that photo of Nulty not from that same event. There were Younger clergy from Armagh, Meath and Dublin becoming one of the 'boys' at that event with their expensive iPads, mobiles, fashion and expensive aftershaves. The whole thing makes me sick. What was Byrne doing being pictured with Nulty in that way? What the hell was Nulty dressed like? No wonder the Church in Ireland is in the state it's in.

  16. I don't know Vard or Nulty, but two fingers were given to Maynooth when he had a COI vicar in with the priests. I'd rather have an ecumenical presence than a Maynooth one.

    2. Vicar is a CofE usage. Historically that's what the Anglican PPs were - vicars of the person to whom the benefice was paid - and they did the work. In the Cof I the term is rector (or curate).

STOP defaming these men, while you hide behind Anonymity.
By all accounts it is more likely that some of them at least [ or many of them? ] were 'too holy', are heterosexual, and didn't fit in with Maynooth's gay cabal, or Maynooth's formation team's idea of what constitutes a good seminarian or priest.

  19. There is no need for bishops or monseniors.
What need is there, the church should be run by the laity with just priests
No need for Pp or curate..a priest is enough

      Delete
    7. The way to become an authority is usually achieved by extensive wide reading and study of every research published paper you can lay your hands on. The University libraries are often one's best source as they have access to the best of recent USA scholarship as well as that of UK and Ireland. Other forms of media such as documentary films can be helpful too, particularly if this was part of MA or Doctorate or counselling studies. In addition, there is the valuable primary sources of information eg interviewing present or past addicts and their families, medical Staff etc.
Hope this is helpful to you.

  21. I think if Nulty turned up in Rome dressed like that as a Bishop they would pull him aside. The Swiss Guard would certainly tell him quickly to cop himself on. There is a time and a place, it's a thing they call decorum. I sent this picture to a friend in Rome today, the simple reply was one word, "Indignazione".

  22. Not sure about some of the other seminarians you name, but I know Kevin Malcolmson (with another candidate, Stephen Duffy) WAS ordained in Monaghan Cathedral on 24th July last year. This was widely reported in the Parish bulletins of Clogher Diocese at the time. There were also newspaper reports and photos as you would expect. I am not sure where Fr Malcolmson was placed but I am sure someone will know if this blog is widely read.

Decided to go to David Vards ordination last Sunday, whatever you say about Bishop Nulty the ordination was the most emotional ordination l have ever been to and l have been to my far share as a former seminarian. Truly incredible day that l can't seem to find the words to do it justice. Bravo Fr David and the Parish of Newbridge. His homily at his first mass was one of the best l've ever heard. Maybe, just maybe the Maynooth 4 did something right with Fr Davids formation journey.
