UPDATE - ARMAGH AND PSNI

AMY MARTIN IN COMBAT GEAR :-)

As announced yesterday Amy Martin sent his Safegaurding officer Aidan Gordon to Armagh PSNI on January 6th last to report a comment that appeared on one of my blogs.

AIDAN GORDON

I was interviewed "under caution" by two PSNI officers in Larne PSNI station on January 17th.

The officers suggested that I would hear the outcome within a couple of weeks - which would have brought us to the end of January.

FIVE MONTHS LATER I had heard nothing.

So yesterday I rang the PSNI Public Protection Unit in Armagh and got speaking to a senior officer.

They gave me an outline of the position:

10th January I was informed of the comment by the PSNI and immediately removed it from the Blog.

17th January I was interviewed.

31st January the PSNI sent a file to the Public Prosecution Service.

22nd May The PPS contacted the PSNI and asked for more information - a full copy of the Blog in question.

That information was supplied within days.

5th June the file went to a prosecutor's desk.

The prosecutor has been very busy and has not have time to make a decision.

When they do the PSNI said they will let me know.

PAT SAYS:

I understand that the police have to investigate every complaint they get.

But is Amy and Armagh not wasting valuable police and prosecutor time.

It was about one throw away and non literal comment on a blog.

The comment was immediately removed when I was told the police were looking at it.

I think the poor police need to be left free to chase all the real criminals out there - the people who burgle and beat up old people, the drug dealers, the terrorists etc.

BRADY TO GIVE RAPHOE PRIESTS RETREAT ???

Image result for cardinal sean brady

A Donegal reader has been in touch with the Blog and claimed that Bishop Boyce of the Diocese of Raphoe has asked Cardinal Sean "The Wounded Healer" Brady to conduct this year's Raphoe priest's retreat ???

This is the same Sean Brady who was supposed to retire a number of years ago!

This is the same Sean Brady who turns up at every dog fight he can and makes sure to get his picture taken with celebs!

This is the same Sean Brady who questioned little boys in a room with their parents locked outside about what Father Brendan Smyth did when he abused them!

This is the same Sean Brady who asked those little boys if they "enjoyed" or "got pleasure" from their abuse!

This is the same Sean Brady that Amy and other bishops have been trying to impose of parents and children for Confirmation ceremonies!

And now it is being suggested that he is going to give the priest's retreat in Raphoe - where one of the worse priest abuseres in Ireland - Father Eugene Greene - operated for years and abused many boys!

Fr Eugene Greene: jailed in 2000

One of  the most notorious priest abusers to come to public attention in Ireland was Fr Eugene Greene of Raphoe diocese. He was jailed for 12 years at Donegal Circuit Court in 2000 when he pleaded guilty to 41 sample charges of sexual assault against 26 children in Donegal parishes between 1965 and 1982.
He had been charged on over 100 counts. The trial heard that many of his victims were altar boys, who suffered repeated assault and buggery. Sentencing him, Judge Matthew Deery noted some of his victims had turned to drink to try to erase the pain of their childhood abuse which he described as “horrific”.
In 2001 Greene sought a reduction in his sentence at the Court of Criminal Appeal on grounds of advanced age and a drink problem; the appeal was dismissed. He was released in 2008 after serving nine years.

A native of the Annagry parish in Co Donegal, Greene had served 10 years with the Kiltegan Fathers in Nigeria when he returned to Ireland in 1965. He then served in Scotland and Cork.

In 1970 he was curate in Gweedore, thereafter serving in Killybegs, Lettermacaward, Gorthahork (where between 1976 and 1981 he abused 16 boys) Glenties, Kilmacrennan and Annagry.

His abuse came to light when he reported a man for trying to blackmail him. In the subsequent investigation, the Garda uncovered the abuse.

In their 2008 book Breaking the Silence retired garda Martin Ridge and journalist Gerard Cunningham revealed that Greene’s criminal activities “were known to Raphoe clergy at least as early as 1976”.

Bishop Séamus Hegarty, who was bishop of Raphoe from 1982 to 1994, has said Greene was sent to the Stroud treatment centre in England because of alcoholism but that he was unaware while he was bishop of the diocese of any allegations of sexual abuse against the priest.

Dr Hegarty became bishop of Derry in 1994 and later resigned for health reasons.
PAT SAYS:

Can it be true that Brady is still being invited to give retreats and conduct ceremonies years after he resigned in shame?

What are these bishops and priests who issue invitations to him thinking.

Do they not realise that they are rubbing salt in the wounds of victims and their families.

The truth is that they do not care. They do not accept that Brady did anything wrong. And they will not allow anyone to tell them what to do!

  1. Pat. Why did you phone the Public Protection Unit and not the investigating officer? Did the PPU officer tell you the recommendation of the investigation officer?

    1. I was interviewed by a PPU officer initially as the Armagh Safeguarding Officer reported the blog to them.

Yesterday I spoke to the investigating officer, his inspector and the PPS.

All the information I was given is published above.

  2. I'm afraid Sean the 'Wounded Healer' like the bad penny has turned up again in Armagh Parish for Confirmation over a week ago. He presided alongside Amy as if butter wouldn't melt. Can someone for god sake tell this man to go and explain the meaning of retirement to him. At the same time remind him that by turning up he is rubbing salt into the victims of abuse. I think the man doesn't give a shit which makes matters worse. Smug, arrogant, brazen and foolish idiot.

  3. If there was a law against crass stupidity you'd be found guilty on all counts. Your blog is a strange mixture of facts - innuendo, lies and half-truths It's like a cheap tabloid big on condemnatory headlines but skimpy on truth. Pat if were now a priest in a parish in D&c you wouldn't have time for all these senseless posts. You prove the old adage "The devil finds work for idle hands." You Pat, are his CEO.

    1. I would have thought that those who abused children, covered up abuse, tortured women in Magdalen laundries and buried 700 babies in a sewerage tank would be better qualified to work for him than I?

    2. 08.48 Has Pat's Blog hit a nerve? If so, that's a good thing because it's being effective in my mind.

  4. I imagine if you were a serious criminal the PSNI would have dealt with this ages ago. However it can be stressful having something like this unresolved. As for Sean Brady giving retreats who knows where his head is at right now given the time he has had to reflect and judge past actions. I am not aware of any court or civil actions pending Just a thought...

  5. 08.56 Sean Page, I never quite understand your posts or were exactly you are coming from. It's clear that Sean Brady has done no reflecting on his past because if he had he wouldn't be showing his face anywhere thus being more sensitive to the victims of abuse. Read the account of Brendan Borland for instance and then come back and offer a more sensible post.

  6. I wonder is there another Sean Brady giving retreats and maybe it is not Cardinal Brady that is going to talk in Donegal? I can' t believe a cardinal who is famous for being so humble would have the nerve to preach to priests? About what exactly? Lying? Bullying? Turning a blind eye to child abuse? Has this man any idea how much damage he has caused the church?
Whoever picked him needs his head examined. Are the clergy totally out of touch? I was assaulted by Eugene Green and find this is sick joke. Please tell me there has been a mix up

    1. I am sorry to hear about your awful suffering.

If Brady is giving the Raphoe retreat in the Ards retreat house he will have been asked to do so by the outgoing bishop - Boyce.

  7. Pat, some sage advice from me - which you are entirely free to take or reject - - forget the police etc and get on with enjoying your day.
Let sleeping dogs lie, if you know the old saying.
Nothing to worry about. It's over. Done. Don't phone anybody.

    1. Thank you for the advice. I was already taking it.

  8. 10.45 You haven't read the details of the blog very carefully, the matter is far from over so how can you let sleeping dogs lie as you suggest. The matter has yet to be resolved by the PPS according to the blog so it's rather insensitive to advise about getting on with enjoying your day. Some sage advice, I'm sure you wouldn't be so blasé if this sort of thing was hanging over you, I imagine it's all quite unsettling.

My advice stands exactly as it was.
I had read the blog closely and the details therein are actually incidental anyway.
It is exactly how I would respond in similar circumstances (and have done - -)
Though I realise that if Pat unwisely tries to prolong that potential problem by further phoning and up-stirring, it may provide frisson of excitement and expectation on the part of some blog readers, I do not think that is in his best interests. We are not the ones who would have to face the consequences. Far from being blasé, I have given my sincere opinion and advice and Pat knows that I do not regard this as a spectator sport but have his peace of mind and well-being at heart. But as I originally stated this morning, he is free to accept or reject my advice. That also still stands. That is all I will be saying on the matter.

  9. Imagine the victims in Donegal having to endure this Brady man coming into their area.
Get a grip Sean and retreat to some obscure house and repent.
You mock us laity by appearing in robes and sauntering around Lourdes every year like a peacock.
Who were the poor victims confirmed by him ???????
And the poor parents who allowed it. Sheeeeeesh.

  10. Pat, there is no PPU in Armagh. Portadown Mahon Road would cover Armagh.

  11. If your reading this blog Sean Brady or any of your apologists - your not welcome to Donegal. Hang your head in shame because you have been proven to be a co abuser. Stay in your safe house in Armagh and keep out of public life because your causing great upset to victims of abuse.

  13. 11.42 Why are you questioning about no PPU in Armagh, what is your point exactly? If you read the blog correctly you will have seen that Armagh Police referred it to the PPU in Lurgan which infers Armagh has no PPU of its own. Nit picking I think on minute details.

    1. Pat mention Lurgan? To my knowledge he said he phoned the PPU in Armagh. To my knowledge and I stand corrected, the PPU would not deal with this.

  14. The priests of Raphoe and their new bishop should withdraw the invitation to Brady. If it is let stand, decent priests should boycott the retreat. Typical of the utterly inept Philip Boyce to issue such an invitation in the first place. #haventafeckinclue

  16. What was it about again, I can't remember; a figure of speech I think.

We have come a long way since January. We've had the 'Grindr' scandal, the titillating 'SilverDaddy' shocker, and, of course, the ongoing 'strange goings-on' saga.

Should we be bracing ourselves for more salacious scandal and debauchery? I wonder.

  17. Buckley you and your crew need to get real . This retreat is a private spiritual event and is none of your business. His Eminence Cardinal Brady is a good holy man who has suffered enough. Are you aware of Pope Francis' call for Mercy? Senior Parish Priest

    ReplyDelete
  18. I didn't know 18.59 that so called good holy men could become co abusers. If good holy men take evidence from little children and swear them to secrecy what would a poor sinner be capable of? Do Good holy men ask children if they enjoyed their abuse in anyway or spilled their seed as a result? Is that the actions of a good holy man? Brady's sufferings don't even compare to the sufferings of victims of child abuse. Being a Senior Priest you should be ashamed of yourself defending such abuse.

Thank you for demonstrating so well that a senior parish priest can have such a twisted idea of what is good and holy. It makes me sick, the way they lionise these enablers of kiddy fiddlers.

    1. Well obviously a senior mother is a mature woman of responsibility and experience. The difference is a senior priest is a young boy who hasn't grown and still thinks a dog collar and some ontological magic wand waving mean a man is worthy of respect whatever harm he causes, enables or covers up. If your children were abused, you may feel able to forgive the abusers but I have a feeling you wouldn't enable them.

  21. My Aunt usually attends a nice day retreat based on Padre Pio once a year in the Ryandale Inn, Moy. It's something she looks forward to and enjoys. Last year she decided she wasn't going because the speaker was wounded man Sean Brady. Why doesn't this man understand and realise that many find him personally off putting because of his mishandling of child abuse. He turns people off attending events including Confirmation which is unfair. They don't want their children pictured with this man much less his hands anywhere near them. I do hope that our Bishop here in Dromore does not ask Brady to conduct any Confirmations here again. In Rostrevor when he appeared sometime ago to confirm, people were extremely uneasy. Families felt forced to go through with it for the sake of their children instead of leaving there and then. Please someone urge this man to stop and realise he is not wanted or welcome.

  22. Several years ago I was shocked to see Brady - bold as brass - at the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The fact that both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown did not receive invitations to the event made his presence even more extraordinary. Royal invitations at least should be restricted in order to allay fears of possible scandal to the faithful readers of this blog.
