Eamon,

A young male parishioner of XXXXXXX parish has reported to me that his parish priest in on a gay dating site called CAFFMOS and he has seen Father XXXXXX XXXXXX expose his face and genitals and masturbate on line.

I have checked the profile reported to me and the person with a profile name of XXXXX says that he is looking for intimacy.

This person has been on Caffmos on the following dates and times:

02/07/2017            9.50 am

According to the young parishioner, the on line exposure/masturbation mainly takes place in the early hours of the morning.

The young man has supplied me with photographic material and claims he is also in possession of recording he took on his smartphone.

Furthermore I am aware that a journalist from a prominent Northern Ireland newspaper is aware of the “goings on” and is looking into the matter with a view to publication.

In the first instance, I am making you aware of this issue to allow you to meet Father XXXXXXX, have him stand aside and get help.

It has the potential to be another Rory Coyle situation if not worse.

I need instant reassurance by email/telephone that you will handle this situation immediately and seriously.

+ Pat Buckley

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM ARMAGH:

I wish to acknowledge receipt of your email of yesterday evening.  Archbishop Eamon is currently on leave.  I will pass your email onto one of the Vicars General today.

PAT SAYS:

This is the second internet gay scandal involving a prominent priest of Armagh diocese.

Last year we had the Grindr scandal of Father Rory Coyle - Eamon Martin's Master of Ceremonies.

There are several other Armagh cases being talked about by the clergy of Armagh that involve "goings on" at home, on the internet, at World Youth Day and at Lourdes during pilgrimages.

Eamon Martin is either unable or unwilling to root out these problems.

It does bring his suitability for office into question - AND - he could be there for 20+ more years.

LATE LAST THE PRIEST REMOVED HIS PROFILE FROM CAFFMOS.

OBVIOUSLY HAS BEEN INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY AMY AND HIS VG's.

BUT THAT IS NOT THE END OF THE MATTER!

THEY WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH COVERING UP.

HE NEEDS TO STAND ASIDE AND GET HELP AND AMY AND THE ARMAGH BOYOS NEED TO REALISE THEY CAN NO LONGER 'BURY THEIR DEAD" !!!

  8. Bishop Pat, I'm a gay man and from the sexual exploits you describe about this Priest and his sexual preferences, I think I know him. I had a liaison with a Priest in a hotel room in Lourdes some time ago. Reading his online profile on your blog makes me 100% It's him and South Armagh springs to mind. I've never seen or heard from him since but it sounds as if he is still at it.

I'm not surprised what priests get up to when in Lourdes after observing and listening to many of them over the years. Sure Fr Richard from Waterford dresses up in drag there is just one little example. It's a complete mockery of the very idea of pilgrimage, I suggest when you are in Lourdes next, observe the behaviour of Priests particularly drinking in the bars at night - it can be a real eye opener. I know they are entitled to let their hair down but they must lead us by example.

  15. A more senior priest..... This tells me there is something flawed in the way some priests behave and act as individuals and as a group. I always knew there was something iffy in the priestly confraternity but could never name it properly. All this female humor and names is but a symptom of much more under the surface. The whole area of Priesthood in the church needs a serious sort out xxxx

Your remark is ageist and therefore deeply offensive.
I say that because you definitely imply that the advanced age of the person is a legitimate reason to regard them as repulsive.
      However, do not misunderstood me!
I disapprove of the promiscuous behaviour one hundred per cent and find the details in today's blog abhorrent. Priests who use contact websites of that kind are a disgrace, be the young or old. So don't feel that I don't agree you in broader terms. I do. But never imply that because someone is old his body is repulsive. It's one of the most important things that young doctors, nurses and above all, people in Care Homes are taught. It would be very distressing to a person in his 80s or 90s if he suspected that there was something unacceptable about dealing with his body and that he didn't that there was exactly the same respect for him as for a younger physically attractive person. They are entitled to the same respect and certainly your word "Gross" would mean dismissal if used, even in jest.
I think this needed to be said.

  20. I find it incredibly sad that men often well on in years have recourse to these websites. It reveals a very worrying lack of judgment - apart from the moral implications. Do they not realise how vulnerable they make themselves? There are individuals who trawl these sites looking for blackmail opportunities, and clergy are in the most vulnerable category. The fact that the man in these latest revelations likes to masturbate on camera and reveals his face makes me think he has a screw loose. Because of the public nature of their work, there are many many people who could put a name to the face very easily and then the fun begins.
I personally know of you priest in his late 60's who pays his blackmailer 400 euro a month. His 'secret' liason in a Wexford hotel was - unbeknowns to him - filmed by a concealed video camera. Since that time he is a mental wreck, addicted to alcohol and downing anxiety tabs to beat the band. It has all but destroyed him.

These men came through a formation process that left them - in many cases - deformed, both emotionally and sexually. Fellows who left school at age 17 or 18 and went directly to a seminary are bound to have issues.
When these sordid tales come to light the church is once again damaged and the faith of good people takes a bashing.
So if there are any clerics reading this who paddlle in dangerous waters for God's sake cop on before we see your name dragged through the muck.

  21. What further astonishes about this latest carry on is that this priest (and others?) are still "at it" - in spite of Rory Coyle, Gaynooth/Grindr, etc!!!!

They must be irredeemably stupid, incurably arrogant or deeply addicted - or all of these.

Either way, this man should be removed from priestly ministry forthwith. There is no place for men like this in the seminary or in the presbyterate. Get him/them out!

Archbishop Éamon Martin is guilty of the most serious dereliction of duty by allowing these scandals to continue (as is the other Martin in Dublin).

Get these men OUT of the priesthood and the seminary. They are clearly incapable of being true priests of the Church. I make no apology for saying it - AWAY WITH THEM!!! Enough is enough.

A "devotee of Lourdes", you know and this is his antics. It beggars belief.

We would be better with a greatly reduced number of clergy than with these liabilities and causes of shocking scandal to Christ's faithful.

If Éamon Martin is incapable of dealing with these matters he should have the grace to resign, or Rome should remove him.

What does it take for these bishops to finally get their act together and behave as God commands the shepherds of His people to live and act.

Get rid of these immoral priests. They are all accidents waiting to happen, scandals on news editors desks awaiting publication. Enough!

Something very odd is that the other clergy have their photographs displayed online but no photo of said PP!! I find that a bit odd, why would you not display a photo of yourself unless you don't want to be recognised or you've something to hide. Why was the Cathmos profile taken down on the same day Archbishop Martin was alerted by you of its existence? I would have been tempted to leave the profile online and pretend it wasn't me. 44. "Outing is violent regardless of what the consequences might be, because to out someone is to take away their right to define their sexuality/gender if, when, and how they wish to define it. You quite literally rob them of the chance to define for themselves, if they even want to, who they are. Typically, at least in my experience, outing is followed with acts of physical violence as well as sustained emotional violence. So, while the act itself is violent in certain forms, it also makes the victim vulnerable to other forms of violence."

    1. Excuse me 21.54 just as you climb down from your very admirable high morality hobbyhorse. Pat has not outed anyone as far as I can see as no names have been mentioned. The person who has been outed has outed themselves by carrying out filthy acts on a webcam. That public act of exhibitionism was witnessed by one of his young parishioners, he chose to do this and what a complete idiot he was in doing so. Not surprised he doesn't show his face on his parish website, afraid too many people would recognise him from wanking for all to see.

    3. When and how people reveal their sexuality is up to them. It should be personal decision.

The only exception is closeted gay public figures who abuse their power to condemn and harm other gay people, such as MPs voting for homophobic laws or pulpit pooves denouncing queers from their pulpits.

In these limited circumstances, outing is ethically justifiable. Otherwise not.

Has this alleged pulpit poove been protesting too much from his pulpit? I wonder.

  45. Pat, you once said "I HATE censorship". Why block out and censor this mistake of a priest's name? We, the people, deserve to know. At least grant us that dignity...

From what I hear, Pat will consult with his solicitors before publishing any material that could be deemed libellous.

  46. Anons at 23.18 and 23.37: yiu've just proved my point. As a young narried man and as a thinking, reflective, practising catholic, your language is very impoverished indeed, lacking self insight, and depending on vulgarity to give you a flash moment of fame. Really, if you both took your brains from your a*** you might have something worthwhile to say. But if you're happy to remain in the tabloid gutter of your mind, I hope you find some joy. Isn't funny Bishop Pat, what people get riled up about and what they don't?

You have the aul biddies at 21:58, 22:00 and 00:34, clutching their pearls at a bit of redacted cussing by one of your resident comedians/comediennes.

That is the focus of their ire.

Not a dirty aul bastard of a priest getting his todger out on the internet and pulling himself off to an online audience- including a young parishioner.

There's nowt so queer as folk!

  47. I cannot find good reason for betraying a priest who, because of Church rules, cannot identify himself as gay. Your posting of information about him will do great harm and hurt him greatly. There has to be another way to tackle bishops.

  50. 08.58 The priest in question betrayed himself by going online and showing his face and genitals to many people including a young man in his parish. He effectively outed himself by going on a gay online site, revealing he was gay and wanted intimacy. How can he possibly be harmed or feel hurt as no names have been mentioned. Do I feel sorry for him, No. Do I think he is an idiot and is stupid, most definitely yes.

  51. Pat, is it true that this Priest was involved with Cardinal Brady in collecting statements from a boy abused by Brendan Smyth after his conviction? He seems to have been quite involved and the account is included in a book written by the person abused. Is this now Karma in the case of the priest at the subject of this blog or will it be a case of Armagh continuing to protect its own.

    1. The statements you mention were taken many years ago. I would suggest the Priest the subject matter of this blog post was not ordained at that stage. Let's not lose the run of ourselves.

    2. Pat, You need to answer this question as I don't think it's true if I am correct about the priest in question.

    3. The priest was involved in Brady's 1997 dealing with Brendan Boland and his parents.

      Delete
    4. Surely, Bishop, Sean Brady's involvement with Brendan Boland and his parents was in 1975, 42 years ago. The suspect priest would therefore, if ten years ordained at that time be now 77 years of age. Or was there some involvement as you state in 1997 which I have not heard of?
      Enlighten me please.

  54. Pat knows that If you publish a name with an accusation it could be liable. You can then sue google who are the domain host. Then under data protection you can request all the information pertaining to the use of your name the ip addresses of those who commented and submit articles in relation to a particular person. Every computer has an ip address. It's easy to get the identities once you go legal then.

    1. Who are you trying to scare? Something tells me your from Armagh. I think you need to go back to law school over your ip address claims as you are wrong. Amy sent the PSNI before to Pat over his blog, it's funny how ip addresses were used again in that argument.

    2. Really easy to identify a computer.. It has to be, otherwise we wouldn't be able to track down online abusers and fraudsters which is a very necessary part of policing nowadays.

      Delete
    3. Yes it's easy to identify a computer, any idiot knows that. My point is using that information in a court of law in a libel case, that's not so easy when you are dealing with multiple ip addresses believe me. You would need loads of money to bring such a case and expert lawyers.

      Delete
    4. Well yes.. maybe..any "idiot" - as you term them - does know that it is easy to identify a computer but sometimes there's not much evidence that they are taking that into consideration when they are using websites and speaking to others online..

  60. The Christians who meet at The Oratory every Sunday are a very diverse group but are typified by decency, honesty, life experience and total openness. It is a spiritual community not wedded to particular buildings but wedded to the vision of doing God's well. God will guide them in the future but I am certain they will not run to just any group or place. "The time will come when people will not worship in the temple or on a mountain. They will worship in spirit and in truth".

  61. What is so wrong with Fr Geoghegan dressing up in drag and singing Shirley Bassey or whatever? At one level people criticise priests for not showing the common touch and then pillory them the next when they do or let off some steam? A priest is a pastor, not a magician. To expect him to keep his head in the clouds all the time runs against the standards I thought this blog promoted. So what if he dresses up and sings or goes on holiday. Obviously it's a different matter if he is being sucked off by child prostitutes behind Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi but I very much doubt that. Not on RTE at least.

  62. Pat, the majority of clergy and their parishioners are also typified by decency, honesty, life experience and openness. These qualities are not exclusively yours. I see them all the time in my parish where our clergy are very dedicated, compassionate and approachable. I never hear them preach vengance, judgment or incite hatred of others, all nasty attributes endemic in your attitudes. We are always encouraged to be compassionate, kind & forgiving and to work always for the well being and upbuilding of one another. Positive, imaginative and creative leaders who nourish us with God's merciful love.
