THE ORATORY REDECORATION

In the past week or so the congregation that meets in The Oratory arranged a redecoration of our Oratory in Larne.

A slight change in wall colours.

The Oratory seats about 50/60 people. We have Sunday Mass each \sunday at 12 noon and several wedding per week.

THE POPE OF LANCASTER

Below are two recent pictures of MICKEY CAMPBELL the outgoing RC bishop of Lancaster.

He is dressed like a Tridentine bishop or pope.

CAMPBELL AS DEACON - PRIEST AND BISHOP

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

CAMPBELL IN PAPAL MITRE

WHY IS THE OUTGOING RC BISHOP OF LANCASTER STARTING TO DRESS UP AS A TRIDENTINE BISHOP WITHIN WEEKS OF HIS RETIREMENT?

HE HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE RIGHT WING DURING HIS TIME IN LANCASTER.

HE GOT THE LANCASTER JOB IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE HE WAS A "PET" OF CORMAC MURPHY O'CONNOR'S

CAMPBELL IS FROM LARNE WHERE I LIVE. HIS FAMILY IS FROM HERE AND ARE AN ORDINARY WORKING CLASS FAMILY WITH MANY NORMAL ISSUES.

FROM THE FIRST TIME I MET HIM IN LARNE I DID NOT LIKE HIM. I FOUND HIM "DEEP" AND A BIT SNEAKY.

APPARENTLY, HE HAS DECIDED TO RUN A PARISH IN SCOTLAND WHEN HE RETIRES.

I HOPE THERE ARE NOT TOO MANY DIVORCED CATHOLICS AND GAY PEOPLE IN HIS NEW PARISH.

  1. Love your oratory. It's beautiful.

Do you celebrate weekday Masses there?

  3. Pat, is there anyone you like apart from yourself? Of what interest to any of us is the retiring Bishop of Lancaster? You are dusgraceful to post any news about him. He's a truly good man and has served his Diocese well with immense dedication. You are a menancing person. I'm sure he would say of you - "shallow and a very sneaky". I cocould say worse but I'll let the good Lord be your judge.

  4. The Oratory is simple and fit for purpose. What if an auld bishop wants to retire and play nights and warriors all dressed up so what. As long as the people in his new parish receive appropriate care thats the main thing. Also he would need to remember he is no longer acting as top dog.

    1. Be careful not to judge him, especially before he acts. He may relish being a PP and not having the workload of a Bishop. Moreover he is a religious so he will have lived his whole clerical life aware that even if he were a superior within his order he must be prepared to step back afterwards.

A photo may say one thing but it communicates no motivation on his part. I don't know his motivation either, but I would think it better to give new life to existing vestments than to spend a small fortune on new ones - especially with tight financial resources.

I cannot say that I know Bishop Michael. I have met him several times, and I have dined with him and others. I can only say that my experiences of him were cordial, supportive, welcoming and that he came across as a good pastoral man. If I were to seek an English Diocese based on a bishop than he would be in my top two.

    2. I respect your views CR.

My information is that Campbell is a very dogmatic and right wing man. He does not tolerate other views.

    3. I think Bishop Michael is very different with his priests in private than he is with the general public. From the expression and throw away remarks from a number of priests he is not afraid to use his crosier.

    4. Pat, so what if he is dogmatic with right wing views. I bet you don't even know the meaning of that phrase. You fling labels around, without rigorous research, hoping to evoke gossip,a whiff of scandal and defamation of a truly good, retiring Bishop. I think you are boldly ignorant and delight in any negativity you can dig up. You sow seeds on hatred, vile and venom. It is difficult to fathom your motives. One thing is crystal clear - you do not contribute intellectually towards true and genuine gospel reform or conversion. We will adk the good Lord to free you from the bitterness and illness of your mind and soul.

    5. Campbell is many things but he certainly is NOT "truly good". Have we got the same person in mind here. Go behind closed doors and get to know what he is really like not the false facade he exhibits in public.

    6. I am publishing you comment to give you the right to have your say.

I completely reject all you say

  5. Michael Campbell is a nasty horrible man in private. When he was in Hammersmith, London before his elevation to Lancaster he showed his true colours. Horrible to young Religious of his Order. When at dinner parties he would pretend to yawn behind people's backs if he didn't find them interesting enough in full view of other people. Does this sound like the behaviour of a Christian man? He thinks so much about his diocese that when he retires the first thing he wants to do is get out of it and move to Scotland. He's like a lot of Bishops, he puts on a front to the laity but when it comes to his clergy then a whole different ball game. Don't be fooled by this creature. I'm sorry Pat but he's secretly ashamed of being from Larne and secretly ashamed of being from N. Ireland - he doesn't want to retire back there either.

  6. Millions come for scandal which has been sadly lacking of late. Hopefully, there will be some strange goings-on soon vis-à-vis scantily-clad priests and deacons resurfacing on gay dating apps.

    2. @13:19

There is no hope for the blog without... scandal.

I, for one, am confident of a spectacular, which will - morally or legally - publicly outrage the country and, at the same time, entrance his legions of faithful followers.

  7. The diocesan web site is very right wing. He threatened an old man with cancer, with legal action for complaint about church closures. He required a loyalty oath from his teaching staff.

  8. When people ask Campbell where he comes from, he cackles out loud sarcastically and tells them "Larne".

Maybe you'll surprise us all one day and do a positive blog posting, one that sees goodness and encourages it. I personally have had my fill of your 'News of the World' type postings; and we all know what happened to that journal.

    1. Bishops I admired / admire?

      Helder Camara - Brazil

      Oscar Romero - El Salvador

      Pope John XX111

My ordaining bishop - Michael Russell of Waterford - was a good man.

I had a good friendship with John Charles McQuaid and visited him every Friday afternoon after he retired. He deserves much criticism but I saw him do a lot of secret good.

Willie Walsh of Killaloe - a good man - just needed/needs a bit more courage.

I struggle to find any living ones I can admire - at least in this part of the world.

  13. 17.52 Are the orange lodges in NI any different to those further afield. Some would say Orange is not anti Catholic but pro Reformation and monarchy. I realise Ireland north and south has its own unique history

    1. The Orange Order is strongly anti-Catholic most certainly. In the oath of allegiance which initiates membership, the candidate must swear that he is not and never was a Roman Catholic and further rules strongly forbid taking part in any "act of popish worship.."and marrying a Roman Catholic. So Orange members, men and women, are forbidden from attending Catholic weddings or funerals. One or two high profile members were embarrassed by this rule when they found themselves being disciplined after attending part of the funeral Mass for a Catholic policeman colleague who had been a good friend to them. This was highly publicised in the papers at the time. Orangeism concentrates very much on pointing out what they would describe as "the errors of Rome and the idolatry of Papist worship". It does tend to nurture bigotry in the community.

    2. Mr. Page are you an absolute idiot? I know you were "thick as a plank" when you "studied" in Rome. But for your education try to remember the following. As a Protestant society, it does not accept non-Protestants as members unless they convert and adhere to the principles of Orangeism, nor does it accept Protestants married to Catholics. No catholic and no-one whose close relatives are catholic may be a member. The Orange Order is clearly a sectarian organisation. It's history the whole way from the 18th century to the present is one of thuggery, murder, rabid bigotry and hatred. Not only have you taken the soup Mr Page you ave remained as uneducated as you were 30 years ago

Anon @ 21:46: I don't think it does you credit to personally attack Sean Page for what seems like his honest enquiry.
From this blog I understand that Sean has lived in England for some time, and came originlly from the West of Ireland, so when he enguires about N Ire. Orangeism it may well be because he has little knowledge or experience of it in N.Ire. So for you to call him an idiot seems uncalled for, and when you refer to his time in Rome leads me to conclude that you have some personal knowledge from that time and in consequence choose to attack him based on those perceptions rather than see him as an honest enquirer to the blog.
I am minded to reply to you from personal experience of friendly open minded helpful freemasons I met while living in England. Those I met were unbiased in their charitable efforts assisting the local community regardless of religious affiliation. I found that in sharp contrast to my previous N Ire. experience of freemasons being characteristically anti anything seen as RC.
So perhaps Sean is asking from similar experiences?

You are forgetting that choice of vestments sets a tone and it can reveal theological and ecclesiological ideologies.

Pat is right. Bishops wearing dalmatics under their chasubles and choosing fiddlebacks so that they will be seen underneath is indicative of something quite different from living simply and from noble simplicity.

Good luck with your English application!

  15. Bishop Pat. I know of a priest in a midlands medium sized town who has an active Grindr account. He puts his picture up when he is away from the parish, it's laughable. It is entitled something along the lines of beers and fun. The parishioners all know the rumours. Is this common or is this man an outlier in terms of his brazen behaviour ?
