THE ARMAGH PRIEST

THE ARMAGH priest reported to me recently - and the priest about who I, in turn, passed on a report to Archbishop Eamon Martin was the current PP of Keady.

In conscience, I could not ignore such a serious report and passed it on to Eamon Martin.

It is he who needs to investigate and publicize the outcome of the investigations.

In the meantime the person who reported it to me is adamant.
FATHER EAMON MC CAMLEY PP VF KEADY
I simply asked for reassurances that the priest is asked to step aside while being investigated and that I would be given assurances by email or telephone that this had happened.

After 48 hours I have received no such assurances from Armagh :-(

I am afraid that like so much else there is a determined effort to cover up :-(

  1. I am SO disappointed... As a young man contemplating joining the priesthood, jokes of priests like this one really make me question my calling.

I don't know Fr McCamley but from what I see he had a very nice life; he was pals with the big boys (Brady and co), had a very prominent position in the local school, was a key figure im Diocesan pilgrimages etc. How stupid was he to give this ALL up to expose his bits online...

I hope the people in charge at Armagh read this and act.

No, this will not put me off my vocation, though it is really disheartening to see things like this happen... I know for a fact though that this will put others off their own vocation and even off the Church.

    Catch yourselves on, boys!

  5. Another consequence of this warped notion of celibacy. Let men be men so they aren't forced into the gutters and develop odd sexual expressions from the oppression of their God given sexual nature! Very flawed formation system indeed. From experience - Any young lad or lady thinking of vocation - stay away! Enjoy a life God centred and develop meaningful relationships that can flourish freely...that sounds Christ like to me.

    1. It has absolutely nothing to do with celibacy. Where celibacy abolished tomorrow, the dysfunction of these men would remain. They would still be acting out in this unacceptable and abnormal way. The likes of McCamley are not fit to minister to the People of God.

    2. 12:21, agreed.

What, in my opinion, is lacking is a deep spiritual side to priesthood; this issues from an absence of sincere and sufficient daily prayer.

Personally, I aim to pray at least three hours a day, but some priests simply will spare not the time to pray, but the inclination to do so: prayer for them has become a chore and a bore.

A priest who prays neither sincerely nor daily is in grave spiritual danger; so, too, are those to whom he ministers, since he will have nothing to offer them but platitudes.

Would it not make more sense to defuse it before it explodes in further scandal? A guy spying on people going to the toilet and he was in court over it. He has some brass neck to come back into the priesthood, I will say that!

    2. Truth be told we do expect something different from the clergy. They undergo 7 years of formation, 7 years where they should gain the self-discipline and strong will to recognise temptation and not go there, to bring the temptation up in fortnightly spiritual direction and to take time out when they really can't resist.

These are the same people who rejected same sex marriage and divorse but who must also walk-the-walk of their own moral teaching.

We all know the promise, "believe what you read, teach what you believe, practice what you teach".

    7. 17:33, you are absolutely correct.

    9. 19:30, this is not about financial book-keeping, but moral integrity.

The laity as a whole contribute to pay for these men's formation. This investments is supposed to return strong-willed, dedicated leaders for communities and schools - as well as people with near unrestricted access to people, especially when they are most vulnerable.

Yes, the laity are entitled to hold their priests to the standards set by the Church itself - the priests themselves teach the church's teaching and promise to follow them.

Also you must have the tightest wallet in Ireland.

For example, I once read how a group of elderly parishioners, even some fainting, when they discovered their parish priest sitting naked on top of the altar with a butt plug in the proper position.

However, as it turned out, the priest was soon back in harness, appointed to work in another Scottish parish and addressing audiences all over the archdiocese to great acclaim.

So, I suppose there is some hope for Fr Tautha’s rehabilitation.

  15. Amy seems to be importing Africans and Phonsie seems to be importing Indians. I have nothing against that per se but they need to have a good command of English because some don't and frustrated parishioners don't understand what they are saying. It's a huge cultural difference also. I know at least 4/5 Irish Priest friends (I'm sure there's a lot more) who are unable to run parishes for various genuine reasons. These men are more than willing to help parishes without belonging to them but bishop's often make things difficult for them and so they easily end up not bothering to offer anymore.

And who can forget the curate in Armagh city who got a sound beating from some of his male parishoners after child abuse allegations emerged? He also is now a PP and he's used EU data protection laws to erase all reference to this from Google.

    2. Armagh seems to be a hot bed of Clerical filth. Move sexual deviants to other parishes seems the norm. They will probably do the same with this McCamley, transfer to another parish and transfer the problem elsewhere in the hope people forget all about it. They are taking people for fools. Brady got away with it and now Amy is following his lead. Sickening. We still don't know what happened that farmers son on world youth day.

    3. We know he was groomed by a young priest who gave him his phone number and told him not to tell his parents about it. Amy ignored the farmer's letter and report.

    4. An Armagh Priest at world youth day stole the lads underwear, wanted to meet him at the priest's hotel. He also wanted to exchange phone numbers but asked the teenager not to tell his parents about having each other's mobiles. I think his Father hit the roof when he eventually found out from his Son. The Priest is still running around Armagh as if butter wouldn't melt. I'll give you the name of this Priest Bishop Pat by email. Yet more Armagh revelations.

      Delete
    5. Even if the young man is technically over the "legal age", what this "young priest" did contravenes best practices in Safeguarding. The farmer should report it to Aidan Gordon.

Why would a priest give a young lad his number and tell him not to tell his parents???

That's a proper job for Aidan Gordon, not running to the police with time wasting, bogus complaints about Pat Buckley!

So obviously, the lad is still young enough that the priest wouldn't want his parents knowing about the liaison! Rotten the whole sordid business.

This McCamley scandal - coupled with Coyle last year - might lance this festering boil in Armagh at last. Hopefully it will for the good of the Church and the faithful priests and people.

It may very well mean too that Eamonn Martin is weighed in the scales and found wanting. Hopefully!

      Delete
    6. He stole the lads underwear???

That's a sackable offence. Sorry! Why is this priest not out? Use of underwear - clean or "dirty" - is a well documented sexual fetish/paraphilia.

Are you sure the priest did this? That adds a whole new dimension of gravity to the situation and requires immediate action. Eamonn Martin cannot ignore a priest stealing a young fellas underpants!!

Are you sure about this, anon at 14:05?

      Delete
    7. I'm only repeating what the lads Father claimed on this blog at the time. He wrote to Eamon Martin but by all accounts he still waits for a reply.

      Delete
    8. Waste of time reporting it. No action is ever taken except to move them elsewhere. Aidan Gordon is useless, Amy's stooge. He'd rather run to report Pat Buckleys blog to the PSNI in Lurgan than report the real sexual culprits in Armagh. He's handsomely paid. Fr McVeigh in Pomeroy says it all, rewarded by being sent to another parish. This really stinks.

      Delete
    9. The lad told his father that SOMEONE stole his underwear. He didn't specify that it was the priest. So you need to be careful.

Nevertheless, the whole business of a priest pursuing a teenage boy in this way (here's my phone number and don't tell your ma and da) is not right. It is a matter for Armagh Safeguarding.

If people are not happy with Aidan Gordon, they should go to the National Office in Maynooth headed by Theresa Devlin. The National Board is independent of the bishops and oversees the dioceses and religious orders.

They publish an annual report and they have "named and shamed" dioceses and orders before.

      Delete
    10. Most of the young people to whom I have spoken, male and female, had a very positive experience of WYD in Poland last year - including of the priests who went with them. None of them saw anything untoward. I think that needs to be said for the sake of balance.

I am not disputing, however, the experience of the farmer's son which sounds very worrying. I am surprised that the farmer is prepared to tolerate Eamon Martin's non responsiveness. That is unacceptable. The man should consider going to the National Board if he is unhappy with Armagh's Safeguarding response.

At best, a priest giving a teenage boy or girl his phone number and asking them not to tell parents is unwise. At worst, well it doesn't take a genius does it?

That priest needs to be talked to by Safeguarding. He needs to be warned off at least. There, indeed, could be a much more serious problem of which this unwise behaviour is symptomatic.

      Delete
    11. Armagh safeguarding seems to be more interested in this blog and have already reported it to Lurgan PSNI over trivialities. The laughable thing is it wasn't even a safeguarding issue. Mr Gordon made himself busy over a minor issue on this blog, who is going to take him seriously on more important matters.

  36. Some of the people in a Donegal parish have rallied behind a local priest who was convicted of a sexual offence in Derry earlier this month. A number of parishioners to whom The Irish Times spoke said the community was behind him and a local politician has called on church authorities to let him remain in St Mary's. Fr McGarvey, originally from Creeslough, was before Derry Magistrates Court on June 2nd, charged with observing a person for the purposes of sexual gratification in a public place in August last year.

Fr Patrick McGarvey (37) received a standing ovation when he made a surprise appearance at last Saturday night's Mass in St Mary's church in Stranorlar. "He began by thanking us all for the support we had shown to him throughout the past year, and that he does not know what he would have done without it or where he would be. He apologised up and down to his family, his parents, to Fr Kieran, to the Sisters of Mercy, to 'the boy and his family', to all the people of the parish, and to Bishop Boyce. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/donegal-priest-guilty-of-sexual-offence-gets-support-from-parish-1.456636

  37. I suppose the next thing your going to tell us 09.04 is that these people in Donegal are going to stand up in a similar way and excuse the actions of Fr Eugene Greene! No wonder why the Irish Church is in the state it is after reading that garbage.

  40. Stopped off in Armagh this morning on my way to Monaghan, managed to catch 11am Mass and wish I hadn't bothered. The young buck saying the Mass had fiddleback vestments on, haven't seen them in years. His homily touched on marriage and how couples may not know each other's habits. He mentioned a few examples including drinking from the milk carton and leaving your socks and underwear on the floor. I thought what an unfortunate turn of phrase especially after underwear being a subject on this blog in relation to world youth day. Will not be returning to Mass there anytime soon. Someone should tell that young fella to grasp reality and get into the real world, didn't strike me as the brightest spark either.

    1. He wears that all the time. For such a young cub you'd wonder what it's all about. You are right about not being the brightest and no, he didn't train in Rome. He's a simple school boy from Castledawson.

    2. Certain people can wear the fiddleback elegantly, but my bishop's wife told me to stick to my surplice because a fiddleback on me would look like a bib.

  42. Pat, the actions of the good people of Donegal in giving this pervert a standing ovation is hardly a surprise. It was good people from the very same county who collected around €25000 for that notorious abuser Fr Eugene Green as " coming out" gift. Perhaps the " good" people of Stranorlar should try to explain to the many families whose lives were wrecked by the suicide of victims of Green or torn apart by the effects of abuse by teachers and clergy and who live round Gorthahork and Gweedore why the felt it necessary to show this guy support.

  43. Eugene Greene was a nasty horrible abuser of boys. He left a string of destruction behind him in Donegal. Phyllis Boyce tried to excuse it, he excused the toilet peeper too caught in a Derry toilet and what was worse - promoted him. You really couldn't make it up, McCamley in Keady will be let stay or worse promoted to another parish. Given Armaghs track record it will be somewhere close to or over the border. Just look at the Fr McVeigh scenario and where he was sent to from Pomeroy.

People don't give a fiddlers what a priest does
Most god fearing people know that priests are irrelevant in this day and age.
What we don't like is, a hypocritical religion preaching to us.
