TWO MARTINS ORGANISING MAYNOOTH VOCATION DO

MAYNOOTH VOCATIONS

DIARMUID AND AMY MARTIN ARE ORGANISING A NOVEMBER MAYNOOTH VOCATIONS CONFERENCE.

IS THIS THEIR PR EFFORT TO TRY AND SAVE MAYNOOTH?

IN ANY EVENT ITS A PR EXERCISE ON GOD KNOWS HOW MANY THOUSANDS OF POUNDS WILL BE SPENT.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS:

Models of Priestly Formation: Assessing the Past, Reflecting on the Present and Imagining the Future
Venue: St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Co. Kildare, Ireland
Date: 16-18 November 2017
In November the Faculty of Theology here at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth are organising an international conference on ‘Models of Priestly Formation. Assessing tFormation Conference St. Patrick's College Maynooth 16-18 November 2017_Page_1he Past, Reflecting on the Present, and Imagining the Future’ and an international list of speakers will address the theme.
Rationale: The purpose of the conference will be:
  • to reflect on the issue of priestly formation since Vatican II
  • to assess the current situation
  • to look at best practice from elsewhere
  • to imagine new models of priestly formation into the future.
Priestly formation is a universal and international need in the Church. The promulgation of the new Ratio fundamentalis(2016) provides a road “roadmap” for this formation. The conference will reflect on existing models of priestly formation in dialogue with key ecclesial documents including Pastores Dabo Vobis and the new Ratio fundamentalis. The conference coincides with the twenty-fifth anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Pastores dabo vobis (1992).
Themes to be covered include:
  • the qualities required of those entering formation,
  • models of priesthood,
  • formation for collaborative ministry
  • training in safeguarding.
The conference will hear perspectives from Europe, North America and beyond. It will consider how the new Ratio might be implemented in diverse cultural and ecclesial contexts and examine the important challenges facing priestly formation into the future.
The conference is specifically aimed at formators, vocations directors, bishops, and congregational leaders and others engaged in seminary formation.

PAT SAYS:

Imagine the hard neck of the two Martins organizing a vocations event in a seminary that is now world famous for strange staff and homosexual activity by seminarians?

It is akin to organizing a nursing conference for nuns at the site of the burial of the Tuam Babies?

Or

Akin to organizing a conference for abuse victims at Brendan Smyth's old monastery in Kilnacrott in Cavan?

Or

Organizing a conference for the Magdalen Laundy survivors at the headquarters of an order of nuns?

What readers of this Blog have to realise and Catholics in general, is that there is no bottom to the depth of arrogance of Irish Roman Catholic bishops.

They are even inviting the Vatican's seminaries archbishop to give a talk - to try and fool the Vatican into thinking that all is well in Ireland and Maynooth.

The Irish Catholic Bishops are nothing more than the cynical ceo's of a multi million pound business who will do anything and everything they can tp preserve the "corporation".

And they are using YOUR MONEY and the MONEY OF THE GULLIBLE to create their hall of mirrors and their magic emporium.

It's all lies! lies! lies!

And in the meantime, their "fun" will go on and on as they protect themselves and protect each other with their money, their lawyers and their press friends.

  1. I think the imminent symposium is fantastic! It heralds the "re-birth" (if you will) of the seminary. I'm reminded of a maxim that really is apposite for such an occasion: "per ardua ad astra" - through difficulties to the stars. I wholeheartedly welcome and embrace this new era for the college!

    1. There can be no reform without first acknowledging the faults. Otherwise how do you know the foundations of your work.

    1. Pat, many thanks for bringing this to our attention.
      I am AGHAST !
Oh my, the archbishops have some neck alright. As you say 'there is no end to the depth of arrogance of the Irish Roman Catholic bishops'. And I would include some priests in that.

One or two questions /comments that come to mind.

The conference is specifically aimed at formators, vocations directors, bishops, and congregational leaders and others engaged in seminary formation.

      Themes to be covered:
      - the qualities required of those entering formation - is listed.

But what about the qualities required of those responsible for providing formation??? And the qualities required of those responsible for overseeing the formators, and for overseeing the Seminary? Why is that not listed specifically as a theme to be addressed? It seems to me that many of the recent problems emerged and persisted because of lack of appropriate actions from those in authority.

Which day is the conference Session on Redress? - redress for those who were in formation but who were deemed unsuitable. I mean those who were deemed unsuitable mainly because they were straight - in more ways than one ! Although over time they may see their 'dismissal' as a great blessing in disguise. And No, I am not an ex seminarian, or a disgruntled would be seminarian !!
I am however an advocate of openness, honesty, and transparency.

Can any 'ordinary' Joe or Joan [ i.e. lay person ] attend this Symposium? If not, why not? And can you tell us what is the € cost would be to attend?

  5. Any word on the current 'Maynooth Present'? wither the deacons who aren't being ordained? Who's writing the 'short paper' on them?

  6. @Pat did you read the story in yesterdays Irish Times about the youngest priest in Ireland and the interview they did with him? He seems very nice and a fine example of Maynooth getting it right.

Someone who is addicted to gay sex is usually a prerequisite.

They have no shame in Maynooth. Why aren't Gorgeous and King Puck the keynote speakers? The event should be sponsored by Grindr.

And why is the boul Diarmuid Martin taking part? Will he explain to the Vatican rep why Dublin is unwilling to use the seminary located in its own diocese?

    1. 11.55: Get over Gorgeous and King Puck for God's sake!! Your obsession is boring and predictable. Utterly stupid. Get a life. Why don't you go and do something worthwhile. Work with Br. Kevin's Day Care Centre or homeless charities and you'll have something meanibgful to talk about. These are what matter not gossip about students. What is wrong with you? Seriously!!

  11. Pat you should read Dr. Jacinta Prunty's book, published recently on the history of Magdalen Launderies. She is professor of history and geography at Maynooth Uni. It is an excellently researched study and gives a proper historical perspective. I think it's very unfair to demonise the two Archbishops in the manner you do. No one is perfect and they are making genuine efforts at reform. May I ask you - what is your legacy re: the supposed new Church you promised? How many men or women have you inspired to choose a vocation to priesthood or religious life? How many people flock to your Oratory? Is there a bright flame of a living gospel community spreading over the country under your guidance? Don't think so....too much time wasted negatively Pat!!

    1. You are on a different subject sweetheart at 12.43, it's about Maynooth luv. You talk about reform dearie, does that include priests masturbating online and Maynooth Seminarians on gay dating websites. Didn't think so, shuffle on then because your views are irrelevant.

    2. Suggested speakers at Maynooth gathering: Dromore Hugh, Paul Prior, Ledwith, Fanny, Arlene, Phonsie, McCamley, Rory Coyle, King Puck, Gorgeous, Gannon, Horny Andy, Barry Matthews, Quigley, Derwin, Fr X, Portrush peeping Tom, Tuam Deacon, Wounded Healer, McVeigh, Joe Quinn, et aĺ.

    3. To be fair the flame of the gospel is being snuffed out by those two AN and declines steadily.

Genuine question: what are their attempts at reform?

They'd be better off closing Maynooth and starting from scratch elsewhere, in my humble but experienced opinion.

Thanks for the list of suggested speakers, 14:06. What a pantheon. It's not a golden age for Maynooth. Who is Quigley? Is that Fr Damien Quigley of Armagh diocese?

  12. "Reflect on priestly formation since Vatican II". I suppose Maynooth really is the best place to do this... pre-Vatican II around 550 seminarians...2017 around 30, and by the sound of things it's certainly not a case of quality vs quantity! If this is the springtime I'd hate to see what winter is like!

  13. Pat, if you offered an international forum on Models of Priestly formation what topics/themes would you explore and would you have any interesting speakers in mind?

    1. Pat should read the life of St. John Vianney, feastday tomorrow, 4th August. He'd have been introduced to him in Clonliffe. Now he might re-read his life story and be inspired in a more positive, Christ like way! All priests should do likewise.

    2. Pat has read the life of St John and has a relic of his and a devotion to him.

Pat has also been to Ars and celebrated Mass on his altar.

The Cure was a great man - and hated by his fellow priests.

At a clergy meeting one of the priests stood up and said: "Father Vianney is mad".

The bishop replied: "I wish the rest of you were half as mad".

    3. Who is this priest?

      I never heard of him.

What is his relevance for today?

    4. Delighted Pat you are acquainted with Cure D'Ars. I find him to also be inspiring and I hope you may be re-inspired tomorrow on his Feast Day. My thinking is - why can't we focus on the positives and good things. While there is much that is wrong and totally unacceptable in the Catholic Church, there is also much, much good and many wonderfully good priests. They should not be attacked or rubbished by careless, smarmy, crass comments, expressed in ignorance.

  17. I agree with @12.43

    'No one is perfect'
On this blog people have to be perfect or else they are torn apart.

'How many men or women have you inspired to choose a vocation to priesthood or religious life?'
There is another priest I think in the Oratory Society but we never hear about him.

'Is there a bright flame of a living gospel community spreading over the country under your guidance?'
Pat has many good qualities. He has compassion, intelligence, he is a good story teller but sadly he enjoys tearing people down more than building them up.

'too much time wasted negatively Pat!!'
Doesn't have to be. There could be a more of compassion for Christians on this blog but Pat seems to prefer publishing people's sins and mistakes rather than bringing them to prayer.

  18. Great piece about a Roman Catholic priest in Scotland who welcomes gay people to his Church.
I would love if priests in Ireland might be willing to do the same gesture of welcome.
Doesn't always have to be bad news. We can give each other a lift at times.
I read the story on the New Ways Ministry blog.

  19. 13.54: You prove my point. You are incapable of intelligent comment. If it thrills you to dream constantly about the sexual proclivities of clerics you are seriously emotionally impoverished and your comment, utterly inane, belongs in the manure bin , where your puny brain resides. So shuffle" on back to the bin and take your medication....dearie!!

  20. Title of the today's blog is quite misleading, as neither bishop has organised this event and have rather have been invited as respective guest speakers. They of course would have had the option to decline such an invitation

The initiative has come from the seminary faculty based on experience and a need to adapt to changes in priestly formation. no doubt last summers situation would have influenced this decision. However, its good to see a broad range on international speakers, but the real dialogue takes place outside of the talks, mostly at lunches etc. It should make for interesting reflection and further discussion. Renewal and all that.

Best of luck to the organizers.
