AMY MARTIN v DERMO MARTIN

Readers of this Blog will know that I am not a fan of Amy Martin of Armagh diocese.

However, credit must be given where credit is due - and there is a huge difference between how the Armagh and Dublin Martins operate.

Amy Martin, while showing a great weakness on the reform of scandal swamped Maynooth has shown more leadership in his diocese with regard to diocesan scandals than Dermo in Dublin has.

Armagh has had two priestly scandals - both involving senior priests and sexual activity on the Internet.

Amy's Master of Ceremonies, Father Rory Coyle, was found showing his face and his genitals on GRINDR to a young man he had formerly taught religion to as a school chaplain.

As soon as the scandal broke Amy removed Father Coyle from his diocesan appointments and sent him away for help and therapy.

To date, we do not know what, if any, plans Amy has for Rory.

Then along comes Father Eamon McCamley the PP of Keady who was in the habit of exposing himself on the gay website CAFFMOS and occasionally treating his viewers to films of him "relieving" himself.

Very quickly Amy removed him from Keady and has sent him away also for help and counselling and has put him c/o Ara Coeli on the diocesan website.

This Blog knows of at least SIX other Armagh priests in the same boat as Rory and Eamon. I'm sure Amy Martin is also aware of them.

In fact, an Armagh PP contacted me yesterday to say that Amy has appointed three very senior priests to investigate rumours and reports to him and to help him decide on how to act.

Amy has also published his diocesan clerical changes on his website and in the media.

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE PICTURES OF THE COYLE AND MC CAMLEY EXPOSITIONS CIRCULATING AMONG A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE.

Compare that to what Dermo Martin in Dublin is at.

DERMO WITH CHRIS DERWIN

His biggest scandal to date is the Deacon Gorgeous scandal and to date, Dermo has not made his intentions about Gorgeous' future known to anyone.

He hid Gorgeous in The Irish College in Rome where, according to all reports Gorgeous had a great time, inside and outside the college.

One rumour says that Gorgeous has departed. Another says that Dermo will ordain him in November?

Then we had the disappearance of Fr Chris Derwin after a short time in Balbriggan Parish and an even shorter time in a Tallaght Parish. The local media carried stories of a "break in", a stolen television and Father Derwin driving the burglar home after the burglary!

Dermo has moved other gay priests in recent times.

But all these moves are IN SECRET!

And Dermo refuses to publish his diocesan changes anymore.

What can account for the difference between the TWO MARTINS?

Is Amy more principled than Dermo. It would be nice to think he was.

Or is it that Amy has a better chance of inheriting a Red hat than Dermo.

We know that \dermo's chances are 1,000,000 to 1.

  1. I said a few days ago, and I'll say it again......neither of the Martins will get a red hat if Francis has anything to do with it. Firstly, Ireland will not get a new cardinal until after Sean Baptist Brady turns 80 and is no longer eligible to vote in a papal conclave (that's about another two years away). If Francis is still the Holy Father by then, the red hat will go to someone else - Alan Mc Guckian in Raphoe, Kieran O' Reilly of Cashel & Emly or even young Fintan Monahan of Killaloe. It may seem far-fetched to some readers but many recently appointed cardinals have come from places quite small and obscure. Ireland will be no different - one of the smaller dioceses will get a cardinal but it all depends on Francis staying in place until Dr. Brady hits 80. Watch this space!!!

  2. I think the big difference is that Eamonn Martin truly believes in God whereas Diarmuid Martin, I fear, does not.

    1. I agree with you. He ever talks about God or prayer. His topics are social or political commentaries. Perhaps his God is DM?

  4. Pat, your observationa are interesting. Both Archbishops operate very differently, the comparisons being wide and varied. Both have good qualities, are sharp, intelligent and capable. However, thay are total opposites. Eamonn has a more caring, pastoral approach while Diarmuid is full of good PR soundbytes but has no empathy for his employees. Priests are the last people on his agenda. Eamonn has an emotional and human empathy while Diarmuud is cold and calculating. I think they both have huge responsibilities and are quite capable of more imaginative leadership but Roman strings are hanging around their heads. They both need our prayers.

    1. Why does Amy NEVER answer or even acknowledge many letters?

For instance the farmer father of the son who was hit on at WYD by a priest never got an answer to his letters.

Apart from being bad manners it is worrying.

      Delete
    2. Why doesn't the farmer go public with his concerns? If he in fact exists? Have you actually spoken to this farmer and verified his actual existence in reality?

    3. Bad form. He could at least offer to meet.

  5. Amy might act in his own diocese but his failure to act in Maynooth means he should get the boot. If you write to him in his capacity as a Trustee of Maynooth he will not reply.

Fake is fake, and Amy is a fake catholic living a comfortable bachelorhood.

  6. I think Eamon of Armagh has slightly more integrity and more of a moral sense. Remember Dublin was a career diplomat for most of his ordained life.

  7. DM likes to portray himself as a great liberal, all tuned in to the role of the laity. He mandated parishes to have Pastoral Councils. With great fanfare he announced the establishment of a diocesan pastoral council and shortly afterwards asked deaneries to nominate suitable individuals. The deaneries complied and nominations were forwarded to the palace in Drumcondra - that was about 7 years ago, no diocesan pastoral to date.
Parish councils who write to him on serious parish issues are ignored without the courtesy even of an acknowledgement. Priests who write to him rarely get the same courtesy and more often than not go ignored. So while he is great at talking the talk he most certainly does not walk the walk.
It is well known that at the episcopal conference meetings in Maynoth DM does not join them for lunch, on one occasion he was spotted having sandwiches in his chauffeur driven Volvo. He also has dined at restaurants in Maynooth town. When he came to Dublin DM made it clear in the media that he didn't ask for the appointment and by inference that he didn't want to be here- judging by the number of foreign trips DM makes in a year he virtually isn't here.
It would be very interesting for DM to publish his diary on line - Many Bishops in England and the USA do so on their web sites. I suspect people would be appalled by his absences. Pat why not challenge him to publish his diary - but I doubt you'll get very far.

He is undoubtedly Gay friendly, which begs another question that I wont speculate on. His tolerance of gay priests who are sexually active is scandalous.

    1. I have come to the firm conclusion that DM likes a homoerotic environment.

This is both telling and interesting.

  8. The story surrounding Fr Derwin's disappearance sounds a bit far-fetched unless, of course, he has fallen victim to a former bit rough trade. It happens.

  9. The first comment about who will become Ireland's next cardinal is quite interesting! It certainly has merit based on the approach of the current Holy Father. It will indeed be very unusual if the red had goes to neither Armagh or Dublin but to someone else, like those mentioned in the comment above.

  11. Pat, have you seen the video of the popemobile nearly running someone over and it just drives on as if nothing happened? This was during the recent visit to Columbia.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Your accident details are not wholly accurate. The Pope did have a bruise and graze from bumping into his popemobile door. He didn't place anyone else in danger and simple first aid was adequate for the graze.I hope you find this reassuring as you were concerned I gather?

      Delete
    2. It's a completely different incident. The video is on the Fr Ray Blake blog. He makes the point that if this had happened with Benedict it would be a big story but because the media love Francis it's been ignored.

      Delete
    3. Yes, that's correct @16.27.Tbe popemobile did not "nearly run anyone over"! In fact it stopped. It stopped unexpectedly and that's what probably caused Pope Francis to jolt a little forward into the door. He continued his visit and seems fine.

      Delete
    4. So the video was on the "Fr Ray Blake blog" Oh dear!.. well that says it all I'm afraid.. Reader beware and all that...

    5. 19:23 So is it like the Moon landings, all made up and filmed in a studio, as the conspiracy theorists claim? Well done to Fr Blake if so. Take out your anger with YouTube. Either the man was nearly run over and the popemobile don't stop, or it's a pack of lies.

P.S. Shouldn't it be "viewers beware"?

    6. The popemobile (what a degrading title) must have been off sick when they emailed out the Moto Proprio declaring the Year of Mercy.

    1. No, it has had its day and it's time to rise to something more edifying.

    2. The priests and deacons will have to rise to the challenge of celibacy first, or they will just continue to be unmasked and sent on all expenses paid trips to the US courtesy of parishioners.

      Delete
  15. 15:12.....what do you mean, "there's no way an ordinary bishop would get the red hat when there are four archbishops"? Check the most recent appointments. Francis gave the red hat to the AUXILLARY bishop of San Salvador - not even a bishop in charge of his own diocese but an assistant bishop who has worked with possibly four archbishops of that archdiocese! Francis appointed him over the head of the current archbishop of that same diocese. So there is nothing impossible about Francis's red hat picks!!!

  16. Strange to have a Christian Bishop who doesn't talk about God. There are different leadership approaches and for better or worse each bishop has their own. I am drawn back to the notion of some priests being broken and needing fixing. This I believe is unhelpful and the true cause of difficulties needs to be identified

  17. Today, this blog proves totally disinteresting. It hasn't generated any debate of substance except to give a few malcontents their moment of fame in criticising the two Archbishops. It all seems very futile and immature. We could find fault with every single priest and bishop, undoubtedly, but what's the point, what's the relevance? Indeed, who of us is without fault or sin?

    2. We might as well close down all the courts, civil and canonical, then. As none of us mortals are without sin does that mean we must overlook wrongdoing in others?

    3. Bishop Pat can reply for himself, but maybe he was contrasting the different approaches of the two archbishops to apparently similar situations.

While we're at it could someone explain the following, which has baffled Mensa members? Archbishop of Dublin: Primate of Ireland. Fair enough. Archbishop of Armagh: Primate of All-Ireland.

    5. To @21.30
Ah.. but it shouldn't baffle Mensa members if they know their basic Church history! The Archbishop of Armagh is the Primate of All Ireland because traditionally it is Armagh(and not Dublin) hat is the ecclesiastical CAPITAL of the country. That is why.

    6. It's the difference between Ireland and All-Ireland that baffles Mensa members. Is there, for example both a Primate of France and a Primate of All-France?
