GETTING DRESSED FOR MASS!!!

THE VATICAN GIRLS DRESSING ROOM

Below you will find a video that gives us a disturbing glimpse into what some people think the Church should be like.

The cardinal in this video - RAYMOND BURKE - is one of Pope Francis' chief enemies in the church and in the Vatican.

A lot of the young priests being ordained today like the style of church that Burke stands for - loads of lace, ermine and exquisitely tailored cassocks, albs and surplices.

Many of these guys are also secretly and actively gay - in promiscuous ways.

Its as if church ceremonies allow them to parade their feminine side.

This is not an old video.

These dressing up shows are happening today!!!

What it all has to do with Jesus of Nazareth and being pastors I do not know!

AND REMEMBER BURKE IS STILL RELATIVELY YOUNG AND STILL ABLE TO VOTE IN PAPAL CONCLAVES

  1. Why is the red taffeta man/ woman giving a blessing to someone but looking out sideways.
Reminds me of pew neighbours shaking hands and eyes on my hand instead of acknowledging me
I dislike handshakes for this reason

re/people in pews not acknowl'g their neighbours at that moment in the Mass. Very poor communication... just going through the motions..

    2. Why is he giving a 'blessing' while looking sideways? Because it's an utterly meaningless cross-my-palm-with-silver gesture, and he knows it.

  2. Maybe those yards and yards of red material were really intended to provide a full set of curtains for the whole Vatican. This looks ridiculous. You showed that picture before I recall..

  4. Baroque frocks are all the rage in Rome. Cardinals in yards of scarlet taffeta, bishops in bales of resplendent purple, and more lace than a carrickmacross whore's boudoir.
Its pathetic, a hankering after the days of the prince bishops the antithesis of everything Jesus stood for.
But before you cast the first stone Pat there are pictures of you on the internet all dressed up like a medieval prince! Vainglorious pride - Hubris -is not confined to Rome, it lives in Larne too !

    1. My normal dress for Mass in an alb and stole. I think it would be disrespectful to wear a shirt and pants for Mass - although some think that is ok.

Burke wears the vestments of a deacon, priest and bishop. He wears shoes and gloves in liturgical colours. His long train is called a Cappa Magna with ermine.

There is a difference between respectful dress for Mass and medieval OTT.

    2. Yes, it IS the antithesis of everything Jesus stood for. And principal responsibility for enabling and facilitating this baroque self-indulgence lies with the Nazi pope, Benedict, a man who has done incalculable damage to the Church.

      Delete
    3. The old “Nazi Pope” thingy again, eh? Tell us, “Magna Carta” - do you hate ALL the German people because of their past, over which many/most of them had no say or control? Or is it just 14 year old Josef Ratzinger you hate and refuse to forgive? And the English Queen giving the Nazi salute in her young childhood years? Is she the “Nazi Queen”?

      Delete
    4. I've really gotten under your skin, haven't I 16:00, with historical truth about the odious Josef Ratzinger?

There is neither moral nor historical parallel between Princess Elizabeth and Josef Ratzinger here: she was seven years old when she gave that salute in or around 1933, whereas Ratzinger cooperated with his enrolment in the Hitler Youth at fourteen years of age in 1941.

The little princess knew little or nothing about Nazism at the time and gave the salute at the encouragement of her hedonistic uncle, the future King Edward VIII; cowardly Ratzinger, on the other hand, knew a lot about Nazism when he was enrolled in the Hitler Youth, including its aggressive invasion of Poland, France, and the Low Countries. (Oh! Did I not mention the insignificant fact that it precipitated WWII?)

Ratzinger, like his equally spineless older brother Georg, took the path of least resistance in the face of Nazism.

Did I mention this inconsequential detail? That Ratzinger did not publicly protest his membership of the Hitler Youth in order to secure his government-paid tuition fees? That's right. His silence lacked the more noble motive of protecting his family against Nazi reprisal.

Ratzinger was ever the self-serving careerist.

    5. Haters like that Magna Carta bloke gonna hate.

Anyone ever seen a picture of Josef Ratzinger at 14? He was a child.

For a fairer and more balanced view of the young Ratzinger’s membership of HY, free of the bias and prejudice of MC, read the following article:

      https://mobile.nytimes.com/2005/04/21/world/worldspecial2/pope-benedict-xvi-the-nazi-years-few-see-taint-in.html

    6. If I hate anything, 11:29, it's pretense. And the pretense that you and others have built around Josef Ratzinger is that he was given no choice in the face of Nazi demands. But, of course, there is always a choice; it's just that some of us are unwilling to pay the price of making it. And thats fine: we cant always be heroes. But we dont have to compound our cowardly self service by becoming liars, or accomplices to lies, about ourselves.

Josef Ratzinger Snr was made of stronger stuff than either Josef Jnr, or his older brother Georg. Now Josef Snr did oppose Nazism, and even though he didnt lose his life over it (as many others did) he suffered demotion and transfer during his workiing career. Josef Jnr and Georg obviously werent chips off this hardy old block.

You, and others presumably, keep feebly protesting that Ratzinger was a mere child...at 14 years of age! Well, in that case, St Maria Goretti was even more of a child (12 years of age) when she became a martyr rather than submit to the selfish demands of another. Obviously, this little girl had more b*lls than the older Josef and his equally spineless brother, Georg.

I should have more respect for Ratzinger were he to publicly and fully admit his cowardice, and then apologise for putting self above God, and the welfare of others. To my knowledge, he has never done this. But his sychophantic apologists (why, people like you) keep engaging in historical revisionism to cover up the truth about Ratzinger's past. But then, the Catholic Church is well practised at covering up truth, now isn't it?

    2. Yes, I agree, Cardinal Burke celebrates a sacred, holy and prayerful Eucharist unlike what happens in most Churches and at the Oratory - modern, inane, have-what you-like liturgy.....mostly uninspiring. You cannot compare the dignity and beauty of the Latin Mass with the jazz-fest of today's offerings in Churches...I agree with 1.09. Magna falls for anything ..no aesthetics or beauty about him....

      Delete
    3. 22:26, there is only one thing that inspires a truly open heart, the Real Presence of Jesus the Christ, in the Eucharist and in all that is.

This, clearly, isn't enough for such a begrudging and ungrateful soul as you.

The only beauty I care about, and that lasts untarnished, is the beauty without vanity (immortalised by Lord Byron) and present within every heart. But not every heart either wants or seeks it, captivated only by the illusion of beauty, which is beauty-by-name-only.

  7. As I was scrolling down the blog, the two pics side by side, of Mother Burke and his doppelgänger Liberace, caught me off guard.

I swear they heard my bellylaugh in Rome.

As for the video, reminded me of those re-runs of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Was waiting for a glimpse of the organist's bare and flailing buttocks (in one of the above sketches) and Mother Burke's eyes on stalks.

Still, you gotta admire the smooth logistics of such a pantomine.

I confess to one sin here: when those servers lined up to vest Mother, I couldn't help but think of a bunch of efficient carers getting their elderly infirm charge ready for bed.

Father forgive them not, for they know exactly what they do.

  8. You ask what readers think - I think you should stop calling people names. Donald Trump is held in pretty low regard for his name-calling. Frankly, I don't think your approach is much better or any more productive. You ask what this has to do with Jesus of Nazareth - what does name calling, hectoring, and acting like a schoolyard bully have to do with Jesus of Nazareth? What happened to "Love your neighbour?" What happened to "Love you enemies?" Or is the Gospel according to Pat Buckley based only on one-upmanship and settling scores against those who have "wronged" you in the past (Cahal Daly, Phoncie Cullinan, 90% of the clergy of D&C, etc, etc, etc). If you are the reform movement that's going to save the Irish Church, then we might as well turn the lights off now, because your actions and words seem very far from those of Jesus of Nazareth's message of love, forgiveness, and mercy.

    2. Another preacher who cannot find their way around a Bible. Jesus did call names. He was very aggressive towards Jewish leaders in Matthew 23 in a routine sermon. He hit people in the Temple. He called Peter Satan. And as for the teaching of love there is a bad side. Jesus was extremist about forgiveness in the sense you were asked to forgive a person seventy times seven a day. That is just a recipe for stockholm syndrome.

      Delete
    3. And forgiveness in generally given to those who have apologised and stopped doing what they have been doing to you.

It's not the appropriate response to those who are still behaving wrongly.

You challenge those who are doing wrong.

When they stop doing it you forgive.

      Delete
    4. @09:34 - Scripture tells us that Jesus was able to see into people's minds and hearts. If you and Pat are claiming this ability then I'll concede that you have every right to call people names as Jesus did. If not then I would say that anyone who wants to be a follower of Christ is called to make love the hallmark of their live and action. "Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful" (1 Cor 13:4-5).

@Pat - please point out the place in Scripture where it says that people must apologize before we forgive them. All I could find were these:
      - Get rid of all bitterness, passion, and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort. Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ. (Ephesians 4:31-32)
      - If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done. (Matthew 6:14-15)
      - Be tolerant with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else. You must forgive one another just as the Lord has forgiven you. (Colossians 3:13)
      - Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us. (Matthew 6:12)

Being called to challenge others is perfectly legitimate in terms of Scripture. Acting in persistent judgment of others with rudeness, bitterness, and a lack of charity is not.

    5. @9:30 I forgot to mention that the Scriptures never say that Jesus hit anyone in the cleansing of the Temple. They say he drove out (ekballo, in Greek) those who were selling there. John's gospel mentions that Jesus made a whip, but again never mentions Jesus hitting anyone. It's a perfectly reasonable interpretation that Jesus used the power of his personality and the action of cracking a whip to clear the sellers from the Temple without doing violence against anyone.

One October visiting a seminary with a friend whose son was there, on the was in, lots of seminarians were spotted in one of the college's fields picking the annual potato crop. You lot don't attend Mass to receive the lowly Nazarene in the Eucharist (your love of the baroque...the resplendently ornate...proves this); you attend rather so that you can luxuriate in a self-image projected onto a litirgical service. The psychology of this type of liturgy is an open book, and fascinating.

My family have Anglican heritage you see. In the Church of England, we have many who like dressing up, and being as close to Rome as possible, but Mr Burke just takes it to another level. It is all about authority and how these men are on a different level to the rest of us. I just hope Mr Burke when he dies and meets his maker, Jesus will just say "Really? You have to dress up as Liberace to worship me and my father? Really?"

And, what worries me is that he's surrounded by all sorts of young men; and the church is packed; surely, it must be somewhere in Eastern Europe where Catholicism is seen as a national identity and allegiance to it a hang over from when it provided a way of opposing Communism. In time they will have an Irish experience, and realise that they don't need the Church to give them identity, rather as the Irish have done in the last 20 years or so. They now have their own identity - Irish, European, democratic, inclusive, modern.....rather than just Catholic.

Slightly worrying when people LAMENT over full churches............obviously they WANT EMPTY churches and for Catholicism to be extinct.........funnily enough it's the traditional Latin mass that has one of the best attended masses in Dublin........I wonder why that is???? Perhaps it's because it's true Catholicism.......I Wonder why there were thousands of people in Rome at Summorum Pontificum 2017??? ...I wonder why the church in Ireland is gone past being on its last legs??? Because it's last it's true catholic identity and value.

Poor wee thing, MC, needing Big Mama Pat to protect him! It’s a pity you hadn’t done a bit more censoring when this odious man was personally abusing some of your readers left, right and centre! “Trying to draw him into rants”?? Is he like five or something? Cop yourselves on the both of you!

  46. The contrast between Archbishop Lefebvre and the grotesque Burke road show is striking. I have never seen pictures of Mgr Lefebvre wearing a cappa magna, seated on a throne or surrounded by fawning young men kissing his ring ( hold the vulgarity, please! ). His life was strikingly simple as befits a missionary. I believe he disliked clergy in birettas ( ALWAYS a dead giveaway ) on the grounds that they were vainglorious.

  48. Vanitas vanitatum dixit Ecclesiastes omnia vanitas
"Vanity of vanities says the Preacher, all is vanity."
    Ecclesiastes 1:2

Initially, having viewed this post, I professed myself disinclined to say anything concerning another person’s favoured apparel, on the grounds that if there are wholly objective properties of taste, then most of us are probably defective in our capacity to detect them as they would appear to be subjective in nature, or idiosyncratic, a concept supported by the striking degree to which we differ in our judgements about them.

Cardinal Burke looks absurd in a garb whose only suitable context for display must surely be the palatial. He has adopted this attire from a bygone age despite the good example of modern popes who have eschewed the use of the Sedia Gestatoria, the chair in which popes were held aloft for the purposes of display by the gentlemen of the papal household and the Triregnum, the triple crowned tiara denoting triple power: ‘father of kings’, ‘governor of the world’ and ‘vicar of Christ’. I don’t like to use categorical imperatives like ‘should’, ‘ought’ and ‘must’, but the dress of a priest should be simple and modest.

I am reminded of a parable, a human story with a celestial meaning, in which two men were contrasted and had different fates, one who “dressed in purple and fine linen and feasted magnificently every day” and the poor emaciated man who sat at his gate, covered in sores.

In the philosophy and theology of scholasticism, God is often referred to a ‘Simple’, meaning immutable or incapable of change and therefore, it would appear to be incorrect to predicate of God something so ephemeral as an emotion like ‘attraction’, unless that is, attraction for example, is inherent to the unchanging nature of our God. The Option for the Poor as ascribed to God, tells us nothing about the poor who can be as dishonest and as vicious as anyone else. It does however tell us something about the nature of God, who is attracted to what is weak and vulnerable, much in the same way that a mother who loves all of her children equally, will focus more of her attention on the weakest and most vulnerable of them.

I believe that the Church’s most generous benefactors are the poor, who give from their need rather than from their abundance and I also believe that the expense for Cardinal Burke’s playing dress-up by being a patron of Gammarelli’s clerical tailor shop in Rome, would be a source of scandal to the majority of his brothers and sisters in Christ whose only possession might the clothes that they have on their back at any one time.. Could Cardinal Burke appear, regaled in his princely outfit, among the poor of a shantytown, a refugee camp or a prison? I rather suspect that if he did, his attendees would be a torch bearing mob rather than the pomp of a royal retinue.

I would suggest to Cardinal Burke that if he wishes to adorn himself with anymore red, that it be in the form of a blush.

    In faith,
    Brother Jim
