AL PORTER - WYD - BISHOP WALSH - DUBLIN PRIEST

THE FOLLOWING ARRIVED BY POST FROM A DUBLIN PRIEST. HIS NAME IS WITHELD:

Dear Pat

I was quite taken aback to read your blog on the topic of Bishop Walsh and his support of Al Porter. I am taken aback for a number of reasons:

BISHOP WALSH AND FALSELY ACCUSED PRIESTS:

Bishop Walsh has stood idly by as innocent priests of the Archdiocese were falsely accused of child abuse and were stood down publicly at weekend Masses in front of their congregations. They were presumed guilty until proven innocent! These same priests were reinstated after Garda investigations. However, they were not reinstated with the same fanfare that was used to suspend them. The experience has left many priests in poor condition. Where was due process, fair treatment, balance, proportion and fair play for those innocent priests falsely accused? I have yet to hear Bishop Walsh speak so publicly in support of this group of priests as he has done for Al Porter. He would have ample reason to speak publicly because he has the specific responsibility as head of the Office for Clergy which includes pastoral care of the priests of the Archdiocese.

WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011:

On the matter of World Youth Day 2011 in Spain, 151 young people from the Archdiocese of Dublin were accompanied by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Bishop Raymond Field Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin, three lay staff and five priests. Al Porter has built part of his comedy show on defaming the priests and religious sisters who were on that pilgrimage.

Al Porter says he had euphoric sex with a priest. The man he is referring to was a seminarian at that time for the Archdiocese of Dublin and not a priest. Al Porter has unfairly and with no foundation cast a shadow over the reputation of the priests who were on that pilgrimage.

SISTER JANE:

Porter then refers to a Sister Jane who said she didn't believe in God and both and Porter smoked weed together. That Sister Jane he is referring to is a lay person and she is employed as a pastoral worker in XXXXXXXXXXX parish in Dublin, Again he has defamed religious sisters present on the pilgrimage by blurring the details of what actually happened. I think it is now time to correct the record on World Youth Day 2011.

I am quite sickened by Bishop Walsh's contribution He has the same right as anyone to express his views but he is wide of the mark on this one.

Yours sincerely,

Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxx
Dublin Priest.

PAT SAYS:

I think it is very good that a Dublin priest, who is in touch with what is happening on the ground in Dublin, has written to ask us to look at the realities.

I can agree with this priest on Bishop Eamon Walsh. He is not consistent when it comes to his statements and he obviously favours people like Al Porter his own hurt priest colleagues.

Walsh was named in the Dublin Clerical Abuse report and has never really recovered from his naming.

He and Diarmuid Martin do not get on.

He does not even have Diarmuid Martin's mobile number!

The priest did not tell us the name of the seminarian who had sex with Al Porter.

Was he from Maynooth or the Irish College in Rome?

Has he been named on this blog before?

Did he go on to be ordained?

If he did, what is he at now?

  2. A very good posting. Priests in Dublin Diocese against whom allegations are made are immediately stood down. This is done in a humiliating, disgraceful, public manner at A Sunday Mass (es). The priest is helpless and vulnerable, is not told the full details and is literally pushed out. When priests have been completely exonerated of any wrongdoing by the DPP, they still have to wait a further 2/3/4 years before being reinstated. It is a scandal. No Bishop in Dublin Diocese has ever expressed regret or sorrow to wrongly accused priests. They issue a one line statement to be read in parish where priest worked. The support is non existent, you carry the pain and hurt forever. The Bishops of all Dioceses, but Dublin especially, of which I know need to discover their humanity, mercy and compassion for their priests. The favourable comments by Bishop Walsh for Al Porter beg many questions. Porter told untruths about people on world youth day, has made a mockery of faith and belief, tells crude and offensive jokes about clerics and is not at all pleasing to the eye. But that aside, Bishop Walsh need to tell us more and also needs to care for his priests since that is his specific role as head of Office for the Clergy. He needs urgently to clarify why he is so defensive of Porter and not of his innocent priests..

Shame on Diarmuid Martin and others.

    2. Strange to get a post from "A Dublin Adm." A "Dublin Priest" would be hiding among a thousand and a "Dublin PP" among two hundred but a "Dublin Adm." would be a real giveaway.

    3. 11.28....most appointments now in Dublin Diocese have title of Adm.....but we never know on this blog who the author is, nor can you believe much that's stated. This blog isn't reliable.

  3. Making a career out of a one-night stand with a priest, or seminarian is overdoing it a bit. I've not knowingly been with one, but it seems they're all up for it.

  4. Diarmuids now private secretary was a seminarian in the academic year 2011-2012. Maybe he would have some info.

    2. Inferring that you saw him on "Badoo App" as you put it implies that you yourself were on the app does it not. Not that that's any great crime but given that you're using it as a means to tarnish somebody else, it doesn't seem very clever that you implicate yourself in the process.... very pathetic really..

  5. The poster says the priest who had sex with Porter was then a seminarian. The weed smoking nun was a lay employee. This does not excuse anything but gives a false notion that lay people are less perfect and can be excused

  6. Very good point, MC, it's high time Al Porter provided evidence to support his claims about WYD.

  7. There is much truth in the silent slaves description. Dublin priests are treated abominably by DM. He shows utter contempt for them. They are no longer consulted about changes and are appointed with all kinds of makey-up titles designed to ensure that they have no rights to go with ever demanding responsibilities. Indentured slaves have more rights.

  8. What possible equivalence is there between a priest suspected of sexually abusing a child and a gay man doing what gay men do? How much common sense does it take to distinguish between a sexual assault and a clumsy flirtation?

  9. Diarmuid Martin is due to retire in just over two years time. He is leaving as his legacy a demoralised clergy, a top heavy and a financially unsustainable bureaucracy. Let's hope Rome learns from this three folly of appointing a careerist whose heart was never in three job. Her has amassed air miles without limit. Let's hope he uses them to go tho three antipedees on a one way excursion.

    1. Dermo loved Rome, magnificent apartment, wining and dining, got to wear the purple and the pointy hat, but no pesky priests or parishoners to bother him. His translation to Dublin was a penance for him.

The time has surely come for the Vatican to stop appointing Curial officials and Nuncios as titular archbishops of dioceses long defunct?

  15. For Eamonn Walsh’s meditation, he might like to take Ephesians 5:3-15. Here are some of the verses:

“Among you there must be NOT EVEN A MENTION of sexual vice or impurity in any of its forms, or greed: this would scarcely become the holy people of God!

4 There must be no foul or salacious talk or COARSE JOKES -- all this is WRONG for you; there should rather be thanksgiving.

5 For you can be quite certain that nobody who indulges in sexual immorality or impurity or greed -- which is worshipping a false god -- can inherit the kingdom of God.

6 Do not let anyone deceive you with empty arguments: it is such behaviour that draws down God's retribution on those who rebel against him.

7 Make sure that you do not throw in your lot with them.

8 You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; behave as children of light,

9 for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and uprightness and truth.

10 Try to discover what the Lord wants of you,

11 take no part in the futile works of darkness but, on the contrary, show them up for what they are.

12 For the things that are done by them in secret are shameful, even to mention”.

Eamonn Walsh’s intervention on behalf of this “comic” raises many concerns and issues indeed.

Dublin diocese is a shambles and priestly morale is on the ground. DM is and has been a disaster. His pretended concern for victims of abuse was a crass and cynical stunt. The diocese has rotted under him.

“Gorgeous” is just one of the symptoms. And now a current seminarian is being linked to Al Porter’s infamous “euphoric sex with a priest” gag? Will that be investigated? The seminarian has now been named on this blog. What action will be taken?

What’s the story with this former seminarian secretary of Dermot Martin? This man has been featured before and he runs around in an alb? What’s going on there? What’s that all about?

Chris Derwin! No sooner ordained than enmeshed in scandal and gone now. Didn’t last p***ing time! A summary comment on the formation in Maynooth and the state of vocations guidance and fostering in our diocese.

Rome needs to think extremely carefully about who succeeds Dermot Martin. He will need to be a holy and wise man to clean up this mess and reinvigorate this church of Dublin.

just because a lad dresses up in a long white dress and parades around the pro-cathedral fussing like a merry old Mary in dress-rehearsal for the opening night of 'all above eve', doesn't mean there is anything sinister or uptoward :P
