SEX AS 20TH CENTURY CATHOLIC GALILEO
SOME ENEMIES OF THE BLOG CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN THAT SO MUCH OF THIS BLOG IS ABOUT SEXUAL MATTERS.
That is intended and not accidental or caused by a perverse approach on my part.
A wise man said that just as the RC Church used sex to control us all for hundreds of years it would be SEX ITSELF that would bring the RC Church down. They said: “Sex will be the Catholic Church’s 20th century Galileo.
There are various abuses in Catholicism – Power, Money and Sex.
But because THEY THEMSELVES placed so much emphasis on sexual morality and led us all to believe that bishops, priests and nuns were 100% pure and so much better than us human mortals – the discovery of the widespread sexual abuse scandals in the clergy and religious have destroyed their reputation in a way they will never recover from.
Nowadays the news is filled with the sexual scandals of the clergy we have seen them for what they are – utter hypocrites.
We have had priests and bishops having sex with women, men and children.
We have had the world wide phenomenon of the sexual abuse by the clergy.
We have seen the priesthood and seminaries as no better than promiscuous saunas.
We have had babies buried in septic tanks.
And we have seen modern Catholics turn their backs on the sexual teachings of the Church on matters like contraception, masturbation, abortion, homosexuality and euthanasia.
We have seen the RC Institution losing its political clout in places like Ireland.
Bishops, priests and nuns are often verbally abused in the street.
Places like Ireland are fast becoming anti clerical.
Catholicism is irrelevant to many people.
And all this decay is the result of the utter decay in Roman Catholicism at every level.
So far from sex being a preoccupation of myself or comment makers on this blog – it is the rod that broke the camel’s back – the back of a wild, wicked and out of control camel.
And many of us say Alleluia to that!
So let the so called defenders of the Church and the clergy ball and cry all they like.
Their days are numbered and places like Ireland will be free of the episcopal and clerical rod.
They trampled on us all for centuries.
Let them now eat up their own medicine!

ReplyDeleteFollow up for you Pat on yesterday's article
Why do you waste your time visiting such sites? What they lack in charity, mercy, compassion and understanding, they make up for with moral judgementalism, arrogance, presumptiousness, over-weening self-regard, magisterialism and papalism. They are, in short, institutional Roman Catholicism online, that vile disease that has scourged society worldwide, making a spiritual, moral and psychological wasteland of people's lives and their children's lives, and all the while considering themselves beyond criticism, beyond error, beyond reproach, and above civil law.
DeleteThey will not see, because they have chosen not to see, such is their faith in themselves and in their laws rather than in Christ himself, who, being love writ large, is the supreme and only law for his followers.
Mother Angelica would have been a fervent, and deeply aggressive, supporter of these sites. This is the woman I once watched on a programme in the television series, Mother Angelica Classics. She was interviewing an American moral theologian and they were discussing capital punishment. The priest commented on the execution of mass murderer, Timothy McVeigh. He said that he had not lost any sleep over McVeigh's death. (Presumably, then, he morally approved, too, the death penalty.) How did Mother Angelica, that paragon of institutional Roman Catholicism, react to this lack of charity and this denial of Christ's command to love of enemy? Why, as you might expect from someone in love with institutional Roman Catholicism rather than Christ: with absolute, and self-condemning, silence.
That programme would have been broadcast into literally millions of Catholic (and non-Catholic) homes globally. Did it teach people the sacredness of every human life, regardless of its sins? No. It taught instead that institutional Roman Catholicism pays lip service to Christ's command to love of neighbour. It taught only arbitrary love of every soul, determined, of course, by magisterialism and by papalism. It gave an intellectual and moral argument and impetus to every pro-abortion movement on the planet. And it silenced the voice of Jesus Christ.
Ahem! - - who was the person who was quite sarcastically attacking others for their lack of brevity last week !!
DeleteAh! But I have something worth saying.😆
DeleteFar too long.
Delete3 Cheers for Mother Angelica. God rest her good, holy soul. She knew how to tell the truth, to differentiate the true from the false prophets. A sharp lady indeed.
DeleteSo, 18:43, her silence in face of such lack of charity is fine by you. Would Jesus have done likewise? What do you think?
DeleteMags at 20.46 - I say to you - look into your own dark mind and soul and your merciless heart. Then and only then can you give yourself the smug arrogance of castigating all before you. I'd take Mother Angelica's advice and wisdom before I'd ever countenance a word from you. See thine own faults first.
DeleteFr Malachy Finnegan was 'accused of 12 abuse cases' do ee know when the BBC Spotlight show will broadcast?
ReplyDeleteThere are too many people on here and elsewhere trying to make cheap points against Bishop John in relation to this case. He said he regretted doing this Funeral mass and that it was a bad judgement, fair enough. He’s a very humble and hard working Bishop who’s trying hard to cope with a shortage of priests in his diocese, so give the man a break.
DeleteDid the same Bishop John not apologise to his Priests sometime ago for treating them like shite? Correct me if I’m wrong.
Delete, @ 10.41
DeleteYes, he did apologise.. fine... But that doesn't detract from the accuracy of what poster @ 1.58 said. In fact, the very opposite I would think.
Bishop
DeleteMcArevey (forget this Bishop John Anglican-lite affectation which makes them all soft and cuddly) was Professor of Canon Law at Maynooth. He can't claim ignorance as a defence.
The man said it was an error of judgement conducting that Priests Funeral .......end off
DeleteI think it was a disgrace to apologise for officiating at a funeral.
DeleteFinnigan should have been buried from a jail....Mc areavy let himself down badly by apologising he had covered up for this abusing paedo to protect the church and himself
Always thought there was something underhand about him..’.keeping himself to himself
He’s another Sean Brady.
19.36.....is this post an attempt at a cover up?
DeleteNo it is not the end off....far far from it
Pat, I know you said you were on holiday but I think you’ve had too much vodka writing this blog.
ReplyDeleteMe? I haven't had enough.😩 But I'm working on it.😆
DeleteBack in 2010, the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams said: "An institution so deeply bound into the life of a society suddenly becoming, suddenly losing all credibility – that's not just a problem for the church, it is a problem for everybody in Ireland." His comments were branded as "careless and reckless".
DeleteWas Rowan on the piss too? I wonder.
By looking at the numpty Williams you would be forgiven for thinking he was drunk. The same goes for Carey and Welby, all lay men dressed up to look the part.
Delete09:57, googled your profile. So you're a highly regarded ecumenist. Figures.
Delete00:43 Even though most people here just now are Scandanavian I do not like or drink vodka.
DeleteNow a glass of red and a BRANDY nightcap is a different matter.
I was stone cold sober when I blogged. Sorry to disappoint you.
Only a very silly person takes a brandy as a nightcap...it is a stimulant.
DeleteNow a wee hot whiskey before bed is ok...it is sedating
Yes red wine with dinner is good for the body and soul.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday Pat.
Snow for the next 2 weeks...apparently
After a BRANDY and ginger ale I go asleep in 2 minutes and sleep all night.
DeleteI must be an exception to the rule :-)
Magna at 10.22 I googled your profile too - simply says a loudmouth drunkard. Figures. No surprise.
DeleteNo, 11:28, it actually says 'articulate, intelligent, prophetic, loudmouth drunkard'.
DeleteDon't sell me short, now.😆
It doesn't say "prophetic"!
DeleteThat word was "pathetic", was it not?
So who was this wise man, Pat?
ReplyDeletePlease explain......
I think it was the priest sociologist Richard Sipe.
DeletePat, your assessment may or may not be correct, but could we not focus on the remedy which is a strong church purified and renewed by the Holy Spirit. Ultimately it is the devil and the extent of our co-operation with evil that hollows out the church. Can we not get on with building up the true church in words and actions and leave the purification to God. Surely the Spirit is able and willing to convict those doing harm in his own way and in his own time.
ReplyDeleteYou make very good points.
DeleteThe first step is diagnosing the problem.
The extra step is tackling it.
God expects us to do some of the work too.
Thank goodness for +Pat.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.tvweek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/national-enquirer-logo.png
I get your point which has some validity. How did Jesus tackle the abuse of power in his day? He came that we might have life to the fullest. That is where our energy should be spent.
ReplyDeleteAlexa is bang on the money https://youtu.be/JN3z2kHlowk
ReplyDeleteNOTE: Alex said that the Catholic Church - and not the ROMAN Catholic - was founded by Jesus Christ. Most of the churches named by this pantomime cleric regard themselves as part of the Catholic Church established by Christ.
DeleteEr, the Orthodox don't describe themselves as part of the Catholic church and evangelical Protestants certainly don't. Only the Anglicans/Episcopalians do (just 60 million worldwide) and even within the Anglican Communion the low-church and evangelicals predominate now. Alexa is right!
DeleteThe Orthodox humbly consider themselves the only Catholic Church at least that’s what Timothy Ware stated in his book. That’s why I use the term, The other one true church, which I found on an Anglican blog.
DeleteI used to hear tell that the western church died on 9 October 1958, but with revised views on Pius XII as the enabler for ++Bugnini the dates may be pushed back even more. Maybe the Society of S. Pius I will experience a revival.
Seraphim+
PS: Is this what Logic teachers meant by a reductio ad absurdum?
Wrong. The wording "[I believe] in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church of the Apostle's Creed is accepted by not only the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Church, but also by the the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Oriental Orthodox Churches, the Church of the East, as well as by most of the main Protestant denominations, including the Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists and Congregationalists.
DeletePerversely, the Roman Catholic Church believes the description to be applicable only to itself.
I'll ask Alexa when those various denominations were founded lol.
DeleteWe are not really wanting constant attacks on the Church as most Bishops now are trying to clear up the mess they have inherited and God willing they will.
ReplyDeleteBut we need this blog urgently as to keep us up to date and the Bishops on their toes.
Pope Francis has said we must keep these Bishops on their toes and therefore the Bishops MUST get shot of the clergy NOT keeping their vows.
Not be long till the Mass of Chrism were a lot of clergy in self denial will go along falsely hopefully they will read this blog regularly and LEAVE the Priesthood and Religious Life.
A funeral mass is a funeral mass and just because a bishop celebrates it doesn’t make it any different. But sure bishops think they are next to god.
DeleteHow humble is that?
"... where a lot of clergy in self-denial.."
Delete"Enemies of the blog" is a rather unfair description of those, myself included, who have complained about the blogs focus on sexual matters. The concern has been as much for the quality of your focus as its quantity.
ReplyDeleteIn relation to quantity, it has seemed at times to have been like an exclusive focus on sexual behaviour, incessant and repetitive to the point of boredom.
In respect of content qualitywise, I have regularly thought it distasteful to read what appeared as voyeuristic titillating gleefulness in some exposes. That impression has been supported by pictures which, with accompanying commentary, further demean and diminish the possibility of sensible discussion of a serious topic.
So, +Pat, in relation to the many previously hidden but now revealed abuses of the RC clergy and particularly its hierarchy, the central thrust of your blog is certainly correct. I consider myself a supporter of the blog.
But I would urge you to refrain from titillating or salacious content, especially pictures, which demean your standing and provide fuel for your real enemies to criticise.
MMM
MMM, I regard you as a friend of the blog and a constructive critic.
DeleteI was referring to people, many of them clergy, who do not want light shone in dark corners.
I fully accept we differ on many things and probably have different tastes and senses of humour.
Wise counsel from MMM.. Very timely and apt.
DeleteI must say a lot of honesty in your blog Pat today. And the Irish RC is slowly falling to the place it deserves, but what to you think will replace it and will it be desired by those who have ubshackled themselves from church structures. Freedom is hard to give up.
ReplyDeleteBig Hank - you're back again repeating the same narrative as if you're reciting a nursery rhyme. Have you nothing more elucidating to offer. Grow up!
Deletehow are ye girls?
ReplyDeleteVery well, thank you!
DeleteWe trust that you are too.
Out doing the big shop. There's hardly a space in the Abbeycentre car park and I'm dreading Tescos, tbh. A woman's work is never done
DeleteIt’s not slowly falling (wishful thinking on your part) and it won’t be replaced by anything else in your lifetime so don’t worry your little head about it. You sound a moron.
ReplyDeleteagree with 16:08
DeleteYou do know that to use that word is completely politically incorrect 16.18.
DeletePat you should disallow any post containing words which are abhorrent.
Surely you should know that.
Please clean up your blog.
I wouldn't be so sure 16.08. It could be falling rapidly for all we know. I think the question what will replace it is a worthwhile one.
DeleteAt last someone who sees that there's a need to replace the system that is broken. It makes a pleasant change hearing someone else contribute something positive instead of being the gob shites tgat they are. Most likely they are self centred clergy sitting in aloof places.
DeleteIf you notice the plates are going down you run to bring in a wee mission or novena to whip up the pews but its not working anymore.
Go as your faithful if Frankie was in town tomorrow and there was a free bus would they go.
Like F--k seems to be the answer I've been hearing. Its in freefall and yous can't see.
Big hank - huge chip on shoulder me thinks.
DeleteIslam will replace it.
Deletehttp://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/1422_crikeytuam.pdf
ReplyDeleteMy god, so Mc Areavy only sorry now....because he has been caugh out in a coverup.
ReplyDeleteMr Faloon said the bishop knew.....long runs the Fox...but caught at last.
The statement by Mr Faloon is shocking. He tells us that the Bishop Brooks knew all about it and told him the counselling would take him in “the wrong direction “. The wrong direction as far as the bishop and the church authorities were concerned. But then to get a complicit nun involved who told Mr Fallon than ‘in time God will forgive you’
ReplyDeleteRotten bastards the lot of them! It’s no wonder the whole Catholic Church in Ireland is going down the drain. Not quickly enough.
Banbridge Brian
Bishop McAreavey Of Dromore is up to his neck in this one. BBC Spotlight are having a programme soon about the whole score. He goes around the diocese pretending his only priority is the safeguarding of Children, attends workshops on the matter and shafts any of his Clergy to highlight he is the best Bishop dealing with the situation. Horrible man who would shit on you from a great height. Perhaps he should take another sabbatical (which ever Bishop does that) but permanently this time. Another example of the wrong person for the wrong job.
DeleteDisillusioned in the Diocese
May god forgive bishop Brooks...did he get a bishop to do his funeral?
DeleteWas it Mc areavy?......brook was just as guilty as Finnegan .
Omg what is the world coming to...another bishop covers up.
And then has the audacity to apologise for doing a paedos funeral
For all we know Finnigan had prob made his peace with god.
It wasn’t up to Mc areavy to judge him
The Rc church is a mess..Again
There's more than the Church in"a mess". Look no further than home @ 20.19
DeleteOn this blog no-one is allowed to make a mistake and repent. No forgiveness allowed, doesn't matter how regretful you are, you have been judged by others who will expect forgiveness. Christians?
ReplyDeleteYes you could be right in many ways
DeleteMr finnegan may have repented ...but the so called good bishop iregrets doing his funeral
Who did he think should have had the honour of presiding ?
Pat, I do not know Bishop McAreavy but I have been left wondering at the timing involved here. Has the good bishop come clean as a matter of soul and conscience or is it because there is to be a very critical exposure soon on the BBC. JUST WONDERING!
ReplyDeleteDon’t knowwhy u call him good...the bishop
ReplyDeleteLooks like he jumps after he is pushed
Question how many priests from Dromore returned to the ministry after a complaint was made against them?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what happened Fr Ian Coulter from Dromore Diocese?
DeleteHe's Missing in Action. McAreavy offered him Moyraverty and he said thanks, but no thanks.
DeleteJust saw the news. Bishop McAreavey needs to resign and now. I think he has apologised ONLY because the BBC are set to expose the Diocese of Dromore for a massive cover up. If they have done this then what else have they covered up?
ReplyDeleteHe could do the honourable thing and resign like Sean Brady.
DeleteOops Sean is still parading around.
For a Thinking Catholic, you don't seem to do much thinking and no research at all.
ReplyDeleteFrom:https://www.catholiceducation.org/en/controversy/common-misconceptions/the-galileo-affair.html
"
The Galileo affair is the one stock argument used to show that science and Catholic dogma are antagonistic. While Galileo's eventual condemnation was certainly unjust a close look at the facts puts to rout almost every aspect of the reigning Galileo legend. READ ON.....
People on here are being very unkind to Dr Areavy, it was Bishop Brookes who was at fault in this case.
ReplyDeleteAch sure he never knew a thing....pull the other one.
DeleteAll faults spread up the line to the top....did he not know when he was conducting his service the awful things that were covered up.
Brooks was an accessory to the facts....guilty.
Just read up on bishop Brooks and what Mc areavy said at his funeral....something about his troubled life....being touched by the troubles...
DeleteYes he should have been troubled...advising lies to that trobled fella mr Faloon.
What a shambles we live in....us catholics
+McAreavey indeed was the celebrant at Brooks' funeral. Brooks, a former pupil, teacher and president of St Colman's, was a colleague of Finnegan.
ReplyDeletehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Gerard_Brooks
I think the biggest mistake this week is...Bishop Mc Areavy apologising for officiating at a funeral.
ReplyDeleteBig mistake.
Bishop Buckley, I read your blog but very rarely contribute my views. After a hard days work I just heard the uproar tonight over Bishop McAreavy. I was profoundly shocked over his statement. It said, "I realised that my decision to say the funeral mass of Malachy Finnegan in 2002 was the wrong one ...it is something I regret and will not reprat".
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean he denies certain people the right to have a Christian burial? He doesn't even address his own Priest as Father! I think this Bishop is a dispicapble man without any spine or backbone.
Can I just say I in no way condone the behaviour of this Priest whatsoever but the actions of Bishop McArevay should send a message to his present Clergy id he couldn't give a hang about them and if in trouble - don't call me I'll call you.
02:28, McAreavey is not one bit sorry that he said Finnegan’s funeral Mass. He is only sorry because now his having done so is going to come back and bite him on his fat, lazy arse.
DeleteWhen they buried Finnegan, McAreavey and all the great and good of Dromore thought they had gotten away with it. They thought now that Finnegan is dead, his victims complaints went into the coffin with him. But they were wrong.
They gave Finnegan full honours at his funeral knowing that he had sexually abused young boys. Finnegan should have been buried quietly without fanfare - a simple Mass said for him by one of his priest friends. But they lauded and celebrated him.
McAreavey is not sorry that he hurt one of Finnegan’s victims by saying the funeral mass. McAreavey, behind closed doors, doesn’t give two shites for any victims of Finnegan. McAreavey is now trying to cover his arse for giving Finnegan a State funeral. McAreavey is sorry because the BBC are going to shine a Spotlight on his tenure as bishop of Dromore and McAreavey is shitting himself. Watch that space.
Pat,I'm surprised you haven't done a blog on McAreavy - it's a scandal. It's been the headline news all day on BBC NI. You probably don't know him or his diocese but I would have thought you'd something to say on the matter. Apparently the BBC programme on the whole thing is going to be explosive. I'm surprised you of all people did not know of such a scandal.
ReplyDeleteI bet McAreavey wished he had stayed on the staff of Maynooth. His must be the most lacklustre, disappointed and depressed post-Maynooth career of his generation. If one includes his role in promoting the 2010 Mass translation, the word shameful could be added.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure Pat will have his say on this matter.
ReplyDeleteBut in the meantime let Pat enjoy his family holiday.
I’ve always though that Mc Areavy was sort of underhand...never really interested in his flock....maybe distant is a better word.
Seems all will be out here soon.
Investigative journalism is alive and kicking...what a wonderful profession.
Leaving no stone unturned.
McAreavy to keep any integrity must resign. He is totally out of his depth. Appoint someone else who has balls.
ReplyDelete
