US PRIEST WHO LEFT TO MARRY SPEAKS

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I think that this is a very interesting and thought-provoking interview by Father Albert Cutie - showing the nonsense imposed celibacy is especially in this 21st century.

It is particularly a nonsense since the Vatican has allowed hundreds of Protestant ministers to convert to Roman Catholicism ordained and become parish priests in presbyteries accompanied by their wives and children.

In fact, a number of years ago I celebrated the wedding of a Birmingham parish priest in his late 30's who fell in love and wanted to marry.

The Church insisted that he had to leave the priesthood.

The replacement parish priest, an ex Anglican, arrived to replace him with a wife and 4 children!!!

So it seems that the RC Church is willing to do for "strangers" that it is not willing to do for its own Catholic born ministers.

It's also stupid when the seminaries and the priesthood are emptying - and some of those who are studying and serving are promiscuous homosexuals who laugh at the celibacy rule.

The Catholic priesthood would be much better with a large contingent of heterosexual and married men.

Watch Father Cutie and tell me what you think.

  1. Mr A. Cutie had many chances to close the door to temptation. Instead he chose the temptation. How silly of him to try and justify his decisions by hiding behind other peoples' hypocrisy and then indulging in the same hypocrisy himself. The media and its followers will give him plenty of coverage. If he wanted sex, a love affair or a wife, he should have left the catholic priesthood.

    1. No. He knows that clerical celibacy is in a state of flux in the Western church and that the pattern of the first nine centuries, at least, is recurring. (A certain Anastasiis was accused of the murder of the wife of Pope Adrian II [867-872].)

    2. Sure what would we do without celibacy and our caste of castrated eunuchs about whose illicit sexual lives we can speculate and gossip?

    3. 8.41, the 'state of flux' has only been created by people wanting their cake and eating it.

    4. 13:26 Yes. It’s called progress. As when 95+% of Roman Catholics began to use ‘artificial’ contraception.

    7. 95% of RC's using 'art contraception'! You have been well poisoned if you honestly think that is progress. It seems part of a tragic scenario where so many believe that if the great majority want it then its progress, but it could easily be the majority moving away from the true teaching.

    10. Theologians and church historians have a word for the degree to which a teaching has been accepted by the faithful. It’s called reception. In the case of artificial contraception 5% support must make it one of the lowest in 2,000 years. Catholics have voted with their feet.

  2. Personally, I think we're all getting tired of these stories. Good luck to him. I admire the many good priests who remain faithful to their vow of celibacy - often with great struggle - but who never look for acclaim, publicity or glory. They live out their commitment generously. I know two priests in their mid 80's and who are still working fulltime. One in particular is always visiting the sick at home and in hospital. He's an inspiration, the other is equally dedicated to his duties. Both are appreciated by everyone. They deserve our gratitude. Their celibacy feees and allows them to be totally available to others. On the other hand, men like the priest in your story find celibacy impossible and now as a married man seems a happy, fulfilled and contented. We need to give men the option. I know many men who left priesthood for marriage. Many of them would be wonderful as priests in our communities. The dialogue for reform of celibacy requirement must happen soon.

  3. Fr. Cutie (already a media star on US Catholic TV channels) was spotted 'canoodling' with his girlfriend on a beach and was reported to the Bishop. He could have bravely announced his intention to leave the active priesthood when he found the burden of celibacy too great but waited until he was found out and was asked to do so.

He became an Episcopalian 'priest' to very great fanfare and publicity - nationwide pictures of smiling 'bishop' and smiling Cutie and smiling wife and smiling child of her first (and only real) marriage as he adopted the US version of Anglicanism. The Catholic bishop pointed out that the several Episcopalian priests who had converted to Catholicism had been received discreetly and without publicity and he had not invited local TV stations and press to report their adoption of the faith. He also pointed out that he had given the Episcopalian 'bishop' the courtesy of a call to inform him of conversions by his clergy but had received absolutely no such contact about Cutie who just 'disappeared' from the Catholic radar. But the 'band played on' and the publicity went into overdrive with the 'bishop' saying that Cutie had not left the Catholic church but only the Roman variety of it! He wishes!
Cutie is however a determined and long time critic of Pope Francis (bless him for that) and has denounced the Pope for (among other things) talking only about the shortcomings of capitalism while totally ignoring the barbarity of Communist regimes. So he's not all bad.

He maintains that journalists always go after bad news and bad news makes it to the papers. But Pat, there's great news in MEATH and it will surely make the Six One News. The Pilgrimage led by Fr Gerry McCormack, Sr Consillio Rock and Fr Dwayne Gavin to the Holy Land at Easter has SOLD OUT. 11. Fr Albert acknowledged that he broke his promise of celibacy but says, rightly, that people change. However, if this could be used as justification for breaking a promise then no commitment would be immune. There are doubtless some who wish to be free of marriage promises made years ago, but stick to them because they accept they gave a binding commitment for all time. The commercial world is awash with businessmen who would dearly love to be released from contractual commitments that have not worked out to their advantage. But the principle that a contract must be honoured and performed is timeless, and is at the root of a democratic society. Likewise commitments given to the Church at ordination or marriage are at the root of what the Church represents. It is a different issue as to whether the commitment to celibacy should be expected of future priests. The mission of the Church is service. If it cannot find sufficient harvesters willing to accept celibacy then it may be compelled to release this requirement, and leave the decision to marry or be celibate to individual candidates for ordination. Members of the Church would then have to render additional financial contributions to support a married priesthood because clerical salaries would appear at their current level to be insufficient to support a non-working wife and children. Are the Faithful willing to increase their financial contributions to facilitate a non-celibate priesthood?

    2. There is also the question of when a married priest would retire and the presbytery would need to be vacated for the new priest coming in .. Would the wife and family suddenly be homeless? 16. Evidence shows Pope Francis is a ‘principal in a cover-up’ of clergy sex-abuse in Chile: Expert

Those familiar with Jorge Bergoglio in Argentina before he became Pope Francis say it is a “classic” move of his to provide “mercy” to clergy who are sexual predators while asking everybody else to simply “move on,” said attorney and child advocate Elizabeth Yore on an EWTN show last week.

“I think this is a misplaced mercy. It is mercy for the predator priests,” she told EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo on the February 8 episode of World Over.

“There are many people who know the Pope from Argentina who have said this is classic Bergoglio to provide mercy to the predators and ask everybody else to move on,” she added. (See original The World Over program segment on this issue that begins at 47 seconds into the video below)

Yore, who has handled child abuse investigations and clergy abuse investigations throughout her legal career, was commenting on the latest sexual abuse case to touch the Francis papacy, in this case where the Pope appointed a bishop with a history of complicity in child sex abuse. The Pope’s claim that he had never received any victim testimony regarding the complicity of Chilean Bishop Juan Barros in child sex abuse has proven to be false.

“The Barros case is putting the Pope, for the first time, in the middle as a principal in a cover-up,” Yore said during the interview.

Yore said that not only is it now known that the Pope received a letter from one of the victims, but it is also now known that he was “told from the moment he appointed Bishop Barros in 2015 that this was a bad decision.”
