ALLEGED SACRILEGIOUS INCIDENT AND CLOYNE DIOCESE

IT IS ALLEGED THAT THE SACRILEGIOUS SEXUAL INCIDENT REPORTED YESTERDAY ON THIS BLOG TOOK PLACE IN A CHURCH WITHIN THE CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF CLOYNE.

WILLIAM CREAN

When I received the allegation on Tuesday I immediately sent the Bishop of Cloyne - William Crean - an email giving him full details and enclosing the full unredacted photographs.

REDACTED PICTURE

BISHOP WILLIAM CREAN
BISHOP OF CLOYNE

30th April 2018

Dear William,

I have been contacted today by a young man who has supplied me with photographs he says shows Father Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx having sex with a young man on the altar of Kildorrey parish church.

Father Xxxxxxxx sent these pictures to another young man who he was attempting to seduce.

I would be most grateful if you let me know you got this email and assured me you would investigate.

------------------------------------------

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ASSERTION THAT THE PRESENT PARISH PRIEST OF KILDORRERY HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS INCIDENT - OR EVEN HAD ANY KNOWLEDGE OF IT.

The incident allegedly predates the current parish priest's time in the parish.

The pictures show a man naked under a priest's alb engaging in sexual acts with a younger man who is lying on the altar with his jeans pulled down.

My informant says that the man in the alb is a priest. However, the picture shows a half-naked man from behind with the alb raised to show his genitalia.

The younger man's penis is in the mouth of the man in the alb.

Another picture shows a man with his erect penis protruding from his trousers with a priest's clerical collar draped over it.

The young man, whom I am in contact with by telephone and email is alleging that the man in the alb is, in fact, a priest and that he has been emailing these pictures to other young men in an attempt to engage them in sexual activity.

Below you will see picture comparisons of the indecent pictures and an independent picture of the church involved.

The round window behind the altar is a match.

The decorations on top of the brass tabernacle match.

The carving over the brass door matches.

The altar front matches.

William Crean has not even acknowledged my email!

However, Cloyne Diocese has acknowledged to others that an investigation is taking place.

The parish priest of Kildorrey acknowledged yesterday that he and Bishop Crean knew about the alleged incident.

Yesterday the Kildorrey Community Development organization also received information.

This is more bad news for Cloyne after:

1. The Cloyne Report into Abuse.

2. The resignation of the previous bishop - John Magee.

3. The resignation of the Cloyne Safeguarding Officer after a dispute with Crean last year.

4. And now the sacrilege allegation.

Cloyne is not functioning well.

Altar sex act by man in priest vestments is caught on camera

Gardaí investigate 'sacrilege'

Sarah MacDonald
May 4 2018 2:30 AM

The Catholic Church has called gardaí to investigate images apparently showing a man in priest's vestments performing a sex act on the altar of an Irish church.

It is understood that several senior clerics, including bishops, have been made aware of the shocking images over recent days.

The Catholic Church confirmed to the Irish Independent the matter had been reported to gardaí and a full investigation is expected to follow into the apparent sacrilege.

A spokesperson for the diocese declined to comment further for legal reasons in view of "the criminal nature of the alleged incident".

A source who obtained the images, and who wants to remain anonymous, described what is depicted as happening in the church as "an abomination".

The graphic images show two men engaged in sexual activity across what appears to be the altar of a small country church, or in intimate poses.

There is no suggestion that the intimate act is not consensual.

However, they have been described as deeply sacrilegious in their depiction of a priest, or man dressed as a priest.

Any investigation will examine the veracity of the images, and the church where the act is alleged to have taken place. "The photographs depict something that appears somewhat satanic," the source told the Irish Independent.

He called for "some sort of an exorcism at that church".

He also questioned how many people had received communion at the altar of the parish church since its violation, or had been confirmed, buried or married from it.
He urged the bishop of the diocese to launch an investigation to determine whether the man in religious vestments is actually a priest.

The diocese concerned declined to give an indication as to whether the church has been re-consecrated.

The Catholic Church teaches that sacrilege occurs when sacred objects are used for an unworthy purpose. This includes the profane use of sacred vestments.

Church law also teaches that defiling a sacred place by sexual acts is sacrilege.

According to Church law: "A church is desecrated by actions that are gravely injurious in themselves and a cause of scandal to the faithful."

The concerning images will be investigated during a year when the Catholic Church in Ireland is facing challenges including the upcoming abortion referendum.

The papal visit in August is expected to be a celebration of the family, but there will also be a strong focus on his response to victims of clerical sex abuse scandals.

The Church has also been under scrutiny over its attitudes towards same-sex couples in the run-up to the World Meeting of Families later in the summer.

  1. The sad picture I am seeing here is one of a church without God. Not that God has abandoned the church but part of the church has abandoned God. When this kind of stuff happens the comments flood in. Many are ballanced but some reflect the frustrations and perhaps the issues of the posters. Like the people of the Exodus all need to return to God

  5. Pat, there is an article on Independent.Ie re: altar sacrilege but the giver of information is "anonymous". Presumably you are the anonymous source. Why the secrecy? Also, as is possible, the two people caught in the act may well have been crazy, out of their minds individuals, not who is suggested on blog. A complete investigation hopefully will establish the truth. What if, in the meantime, you rush to wrongful conclusions? Where to from here?

  7. I’d say these are repeal the 8th activists. This will discredit the Church now for any argument they put forward as to why repealing the 8th amendment is wrong.

I’m surprised they didn’t think of doing this for the same sex referendum.

    2. 08:56, when did open coffins in churches start? That was always for the "viewing rooms" in hospitals and funeral parlours. They do it in St Peter's for Popes and they used to do it in Red Square for deceased senior Communists. In all cases it's undignified. A coffin should arrive in a church closed. It signifies the finality of death and helps the horrible process of grieving.

  10. Crean is a thick man, totally stubborn and has no pastoral sense whatsoever. He is only interested in watching his back, protecting himself and his diocese. To allow Mass to be celebrated on that altar until at least an investigation is concluded is a grave error of judgement on his part. Shame on you Crean.

What provision is there to ensure that such a priest has been absolved in confession and has completed an appropriate penance before being allowed to say Mass again? Does he not need some kind of "re-consecration"? Can't imagine that Jesus would have made such a fuss about an altar or a church building - much too "Old Testament".

The laity did not have seven years free formation which was meant to be devoted to growth in holiness and virtue with which to be an example to lay catholics. Perhaps it is someone with a grudge against the church (that wouldn’t come as any surprise), or someone has done it for a dare, or just for a laugh.

Whatever the outcome I imagine the gardaí would just give them a ticking off and tell them not to do it again.

    1. @11.30 How do you reach such a conclusion that the Church referring it to Gardai means it's not a Priest!! I don't quite follow your logic. Surely by referring it to Gardai it saves the Diocese having to issue any statement because they can then say they can't comment on an investigation - which is what they have done. It's a thing called church politics and manipulation of the media

Yet, you seem certain on this blog of the identity of "the" priest. If so, why express a different version to the journalist? Just wondering. I hope the truth can be established and I hope the Gardai will help establish the truth. Can we be informed accurately. The incident, whoever the people are, is sickening and if a real priest, I am shocked and saddened to the core.

  21. The deluge continues Pat. The abuse that was mainly aimed towards minor males has now crystallized and fossilized into sexual predation on young impressionable vulnerable men.

Clerical abuse has metastasized into a more dangerous and surreptitious form in that it masquerades as "consensual" private sex between two "adults".

However, this abuse is far from private as the public effects of this scandalous behaviour on the faithful is unquantifiable and will only increase mistrust of good priests by many people in this country who are reeling and almost inoculated at this stage towards clerical sexual degeneracy and debauchery.

    6. 13:16, the historical rivalry between York and Canterbury arose through a personality clash between two archbishops, that is, through episcopal machismo and vanity. Which of the two men should be ecclesiastical top-dog (Primate) in England. Rome diplomatically settled the matter (as it believed) by conferring these confusing titles, but with an obvious nuance that purposefull favoured Caterbury as the primary see.

'Primate of...' and 'Primate of All...' are legslistic (canonical) face-saving devices by Rome; their function and purpose is more concerned with ecclesiastical and secular politics than with anything else. Hence, the titles can be used in delicate constitutional situations, like the partition of Ireland in 1922.

    8. Lol if these two bishops were so macho couldn't they just have boxed each other for the primacy?

      Delete
    9. The twin titles of primacy in Armagh and Dublin are not post-partition diplomacy. They have existed since 1353!!! Pope Innocent VI decreed that “each of these prelates should be Primate; while, for the distinction of style, the Primate of Armagh should entitle himself Primate of All Ireland, but the Metropolitan of Dublin should subscribe himself Primate of Ireland.”

  27. MY COMMENTS TO THE IRISH INDEPENDENT:

If two people have had sex on top of an altar that act would be a clear act of sacrilege and desecration. In such circumstances the proper procedure of the bishop in whose diocese the sacrilege and desecration occurred would be to reconsecrate the Church and altar.

Those guilty of the sacrilegious and desecrationary act would clearly have committed a very grave sin and would not be fit to receive Holy Communion without first seeking absolution.

If one or both were either a religious or Priest the local bishop would need to urgently order a canonical trial that could lead to dismissal from priestly or religious life.

The church in question should be immediately closed pending a full canonical investigation.

  28. WRITTEN QUOTES FROM YOUNG MAN WHO NAMED PRIEST

    Bishop,

The priest sent the photos of himself.

It is sickening that a priest would send those images to anyone. It's an abomination and I'm not easily shocked. I mean sex on an altar with him wearing his vestments. Bent over in his vestments showing himself off? Performing oral sex on a young male on the altar? You actually couldn't make it up. It's off the scale.

Then another picture sent defiling his clerical collar.

Bishop Pat Buckley exposed the hypocrisy in Maynooth. Relevant bishops and the authorities in Maynooth had been alerted to that hypocrisy and continued to allow it to be covered up until it was covered by your paper. That is why I contacted Bishop Buckley.

I know it sounds a bit excessive but I feel that the pope ought to visit the diocese of Cloyne and have some sort of an exorcism in that village or at that church. The photographs depict something that appears somewhat satanic. How many have received communion at that altar? Perhaps been confirmed from it? Been buried from it? Married from it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would be in agreement that an Exorcism of the Altar/Church might be in order.

I am not particularly “into” the whole Satanic conspiracy theories that circulate. They are an interesting sociological study that tell us more about ourselves than illuminate us about any real Satanic Cult.

However Violence, Nakedness and Division are always the tell tale marks of the Demonic. As is the reversing and defilement of the Profane.

We need not be afraid or concerned though. We have received the full Victory over all the forces of darkness from Jesus.

An exorcism of the Altar/Church May be a good way to clean and reclaim the sanctity of the place.

Always bear in mind too that if there is a demonic presence involved they want to destroy the Priest involved in the act too. Having seen him defiled through the lewd act destroying him will be the final chapter.

Please pray for the people in the photographs.

And remember: however grossly offensive anyone’s actions may be pointing the finger at them and making hurtful comments might not be helpful.
