EXAMPLE - A MAGHERAFELT ISSUE

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Those people who provided me with the information for today's Blog telephoned me early this morning and asked me to remove the Blog as they feared it would have serious repercussions for them and their families.

Of course I have complied.

It's a sign of the fear that exists in Magherafelt :-(

I understand people's fears and vulnerabilities.

But bullying thrives when it's victims are afraid to challenge it.

  2. How embarrassing is that Thomas Mc Hugh video! If this is the type of priests being ordained today then God help the Church. He is carrying on like a excited school girl. Time for the Catholic Church to man up.

  3. Fr McHugh is certainly having a laugh alright. It’s time he was laughing on the other side of his face.

Magna darling, don't you like your future father in law's laugh? You'll be hearing that a lot when we're married.
Meanwhile you will probably be pleased to hear that I have got tired of waiting for the Church to ordain women and I have found an independent bishop (with indisputably valid orders) who has agreed to consecrate me. Only I mustn't say who the bishop is because he insists on absolute secrecy.

  5. I was in seminary at the same time as Tomas, albeit just ahead of him. I remember when he began. He had a friend who went onto become an Airhost and in this friends room was a strange set up.

I saw the inside but briefly and swore to never darken the door again. The Airhost brought a velvet headboard, rugs and about a dozen cushions. No shoes were to be worn in the room. Over time it earned the name 'The Boudoir' because it was overly plush for a man's room. There a small group of 4 or 5 gathered nightly for post night prayer tea, etc. The chitter chatter went into the late night.. and up through the floor boards.

Nobody will ever know the exact goìmgs on in there except those in there. But the bitching was awful and the gay vibe was strong. Hetreosexual seminarians were not condoned by this circle and made feel most uncomfortable.

I can only equate my experience from that point onwards in the seminary as akin to being a hetreosexual in a gay pick up bar.

I will state I have nothing against homosexuals - but it has been my only life experience where social circles and interaction was determined and driven by sexual orientation... in my innocence I had assumed before seminary that celibacy and the attempt at it would have been the sexual non-orientation of choice.

    1. How come there was chitter-chatter after Night Prayer? Had the deans given up on enforcing Solemn Silence?

      Delete
    2. Given that they don't crack down on strange goings-on it's highly optimistic to expect them to take an interest in breaches of solemn silence.

      Delete
    3. The place is too big. The Deans have no idea as to what happens in the nooks and crannies of Maynooth. It is essentially unsupervised at that level... and solemn silence was spoken about as a historical arrangement.

Others will comment as they choose. For me: couldn't make out any commentary other than inane laughter, so simply judging by visual presentation: very childish immature individual with zero self awareness.

    3. The name "MournemanMichael" is as anonymous as "Anonymous" - it is not his/her name, and does not identify him/her in any way. Given that one can choose one's name before posting, any number of people could be posting under the name "MournemanMichael" - no guarantee that it's even the same person.

    4. Hey 19:46, “MMM” doesn’t give his name, you buffoon. He’s every bit as anonymous as you and the rest of us.

Only Sean Page gives his name - and that nice English lad - Tom.

What? You think MMM’s Ma christened him “Mourneman”??

You’ll be telling us that he’s a relation of George Michael the dead singer next!

Some people on this blog haven’t an ounce. Not a titter do they have. Good grief!

Ps & Btw - “Magna Carta”, that’s a made up name too. Thon’s another anonymous buck eejit ;-)

  8. He always screeched around Maynooth like this so it’s not that surprising to watch. Very immature and if he is a native of Magherafelt parish, no wonder why the place is in a mess. Eamon Martin should take him aside and give him a good talking to.

  10. The video is obviously some sort of "blooper" clip. It's not meant to be his views on what's like to be a priest. The laughter of the interviewer also points to it being a "blooper" of some sort.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Let us get this right. Tommy McHugh is targeted today because of
    1. where he happened to grow up
    2. Because his deportment is somewhat camp...

He has not actually done anything wrong or targeted anybody with bullying.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nobody is "targetted".

As MMM says it is about issues like maturity and self awareness.

It's about the young priest's coming out of Maynooth.

And don't forget - Tommy himself placed this video on line!

    2. Armagh City Parent18 May 2018 at 09:26

@09.03 I don’t think he is targeted in anyway, I think you miss the point. The point is that the video speaks for itself and laughing like a hyena to a very serious and important question about Priesthood shows a major lack of maturity. How could parents like me or our children take That seriously? Have you never heard that the camera never lies?

      Delete
    3. If it is about the priests coming out of Maynooth, then why not show the other ones where he (and other priests) speak about priesthood, discernment, etc. ?

And I doubf if Thomas placed this online himself - where did you get it from?

    4. Grow a set of usable balls Pat. Your some example of maturity!
You've list any credibility you had in society, you'll die an evil, twisted bitter old man!

    5. @"Armagh City Parent" : a bit of perspective is needed - the clip is an outtake from a series of interviews. All the other clips show a mature response to the questions asked. What wasn't posted here is the clip where Thomas replies to the important question about priesthood that you refer to.

I think our readers will decide today who is twisted and bitter???

    7. Pat, I must apologise for I wrote tge comment at 9.03 when my internet connection had mot alliwed me play the video. I just watched it. It is an absolute disgrace that he responded in that way. The answer to such a question should role with sincerity of his tongue. He exposed himself massively there.

Such a clip should have been destroyed but aside from thst a good priest could answer that at the drop of a hat. If a man asked him on the street and he responded that way he could put the man right off priesthood.

      He makes my skin crawl.

    8. Dear 9.03

      No harm done.

This video clip was sent to me by a reader who was shocked at Thomas's flippancy a d giddiness when asked a out being a priest.

No one is saying that Thomas is guilty of DOING any wrong.

This real issue is his apparent immaturity at the age of 30.

And more worryingly this if often the type of young priest being ordained.

We all love a laugh and a bit of crack - but at the right time and in the right place.

Not sitting in front of the Blessed Sacrament talking a out priesthood.

And then to put it up on line!

  13. Here we go....... the excuses already. Blooper or no blooper that laugh was something else, we expect more decorum and maturity from our young clergy. Good to know that it means uncontrollable laughter when asked what it means to be a priest - tells us all what we need to know. That Priest is an embarrassment and needs to grow up.

He probably meant to say ‘being a priest is the ”bestest” thing ever’ in an out of breath voice; but his giggly bags bursted and he thought the result worth posting online for our edification, to show what an absolute SCREAM he is (NOT!)

To say that guy needs to grow up is the understatement of the year.

God help Armagh and the Church!!!

  30. It's such a pity that the Magherafelt blog has been removed. Many felt a sense of relief that the issues surrounding a particular institution are finally coming to light. As a parent I would like to highlight that the bullying mentioned has percolated right down through staff to the point where a few staff members behaviour in the is nothing short of disgraceful. From throwing young boys out of the room and then re-opening the door and firing his schoolbag after him to showing the pupils video after video of 'ghosts' in places like Armagh jail is not in keeping with any sort of pastoral care that any decent person would employ. Other staff openly champion/groom for success, one particular pupil over the rest to the point where other pupils feel dejected and isolated and angry. All in all, an institution which needs 'root and branch' change now. There is no doubt that this is another situation like the chaos that ensued in La Salle, Belfast - a good school absolutely ruined by another bully. At least the parents there stood up for themselves and their children....

In these austere times in Education, I say get rid of CCMS immediately and re-direct the funds to the schools which are so desperately in need of a cash injection. The other 5 had Thomas answering maturely and seriously about priesthood. The clip that was shared here was originally labelled as an outtake and originally posted as such. It was not meant to be taken seriously and was clearly stated as such. You've taken one (humourous) clip and posted that here as Thomas' considered response to a question on priesthood. It's clearly not intended to be that.

  41. PENTECOST 2018 - A FEW THOUGHTS OF A PRIEST -
    " THE DOMESTIC CHURCH ."

I received news of another Ordination , and it troubled me as a Priest of
17 years .Not because we do not need new Deacons and new Priests
because we do -The humanity needs them . The Church needs them .
    The Sacraments are precious .

But what are we ordaining for ? In some cases to make some look important
as they have an ever increasing group of Clergy around them ? Yet other
parts of the Church or missions receive no help , or the blessings they need ?

To hold on to structures that are past , or dying , or will no longer be here in
50 years time certainly in Europe ? All the Ordinations in the world will not
lead to the renewal of the church . Fundamental questions in most places
remained unanswered , or off the agenda , because some people do not want to
face them . "Why are the chairs largely empty on a Sunday despite all the Ordinations ?""

What do people outside the church say about us ?" Because unless we face these

questions there will be no renewal .

What will lead to the renewal of the Church is when we look at those outside our walls, and look for

new ways to reach them . The ordained alone will not reach them . Their role must be to give light

to the very people that often can . The people of God in their homes . The church will be rebuilt ,

will be renewed when our focus , our mission is to give light to them so that they will give light to

    those in the world .

The renewal of the Church will come when we truly live and develop the domestic church - Every home of our people

is a domestic church . It is there even if there are just a few people we must go to , pray in , and teach them how to live

the spiritual life in their homes . The domestic church teaches us that here will be the true evangelists , the ones able to reach out , and bring light to

the darkness sometimes in the world around us .

Nazareth was the pattern of the Domestic Church . Here God through His
Son , who became the Savior of the world , God chose to live , pray ,
and work , in a humble , simple home , and carpenters workshop . In an
unimportant town that was asked if any good can come from that place ?

Nazareth the place where God chose to meet the humanity , pressures ,
and love and commitments of ordinary life and situations .It is here
we must once again build the Church and meet with people . In
this we will fulfill the great commission to go out in to the whole world .
