IS ARMAGH DIOCESE IN MELT DOWN?

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF ARMAGH IS IN TURMOIL AND IS HEADING FOR A GREAT CRISIS AND SERIOUS MELTDOWN!

The current crisis came to a head when Cardinal Sean Brady was exposed of having locked two little boys in a room - with their parents banished outside - and swore them to secrecy about their abuse by Father Brendan Smith.

He even asked the innocent little boys if they had enjoyed what Father Smith did to them!

He retired in disgrace and now spends his time making appearances at churches and retreats dressed like an aging peacock.

They call him "The Wounded Healer" but he is. in fact, a disgraced company man whose reward will be the reputation for helping to destroy the Irish Catholic Church.

"What would it gain a man if he won the whole world and in so doing lost his own soul"?

Then along comes Rory Coyle, the master of ceremonies to Sean Brady and later to Eamon Martin.

He had to head off into the sunset after showing his "bits and bobs" on a webcam to a former schoolboy to who he had been a chaplain.

£30,000 of Armagh money to a rehab centre in the USA.

Rory was quickly followed by the Keady PP Eamon McCamley who had the misfortune to show his "bits and bobs" to someone who recognized him.

Another £30,000 to the USA.

There is a story circulating among Armagh clergy of a serving priest of the diocese who was sent as a young curate to a parish not far from the coast.

His PP came home one day to find the said curate in bed with three sailors!

The priest has gone on to "do well" in Armagh diocese.

There are constant rumours of the activities of Armagh seminarians.

There are other rumors of sexually active Armagh priests - active mainly with men and other priests and the odd one with a woman.

And then we come to the current case in Magherafelt where a row is raging about accusations of bullying in the parish.

EAMON MARTIN:

Presiding over all this turmoil is Armagh's archbishop - Derry man Eamon Martin.

In recent days I have been talking to some people who know Eamon well and even some people who were at school with him.

The words they use about Eamon are:

- "He is a nice man".

- "He is and always has been fiercely ambitious".

- "He is weak and does not like conflict".

I think they are right that Eamon Martin is probably a decent man and a nice man.

It is not so good if he is "fiercely ambitious".

And it is not good if he is not able for conflict - I mean conflict in the good sense.

When wrong is happening it needs to be addressed and challenged.

Eamon Martin does not seem to have the strength and leadership qualities to tackle all that is going on in the Armagh presbyterate.

A bishop these days needs very strong leadership qualities.

He needs to lead by example and be fearless in tacking wrongdoing and abuse.

Armagh and all other Irish dioceses need prophetic bishops.

Sadly, I cannot think of one prophetic bishop in the Irish Church at the moment.

And that is why the ship is sinking - and sinking fast.

NO GATES AT MAGHERAFELT HOLY COMMUNION

The "missing" PP of Magherafelt - Father John Gates - did a NO SHOW at the First Holy Communions in his parish yesterday at 11 am in Magherafelt.

JOHN GATES

Instead, the Communion service was celebrated by the much loved curate of Magherafelt - Father Brannigan.

Also present was the curate of Armagh Cathedral - Father Thomas Mc Hugh - a native of Magherafelt.

TOMMIE MC HUGH
We can report that little Conree Muldoon - who had been banned from Holy Communion by Father Gates was present with his family and received his First Holy Communion.

Below you will see Conree dressed for the occasion and holding the Missal and Rosary I presented him with this week in preparation for the ceremony.

CONREE
And the whole occasion shows that God is a just God.

The innocent child was present and received his First Holy Communion.

The man who tried to stop it all was among the missing.

AND - for those nasty people who tried to suggest that the Muldoons are not people of faith - just have a look at the picture wee Conree posed near in his home - the picture of CHRIST THE KING.

How many modern Catholic homes have a picture in their home symbolizing that Christ is the King of their hearts, home and family lives?

  1. It would appear that every Diocese is in a state of sharp decline and scandal.

It will thus be interesting to learn in time of what leaks or emerges from Derry and Raphoe respectively.

I am truly baffled as to why the Priesthood has been a form of attraction sanctuary for gay men both active and non active.

The daily reports on this blog are something of an excavation project in the sense that you don't know what's going to be unearthed next.

I wonder after the unearthing is anything actually done to address and subsequently rectify the identified issues?

Because unless constructive action is taken, talk continues to be cheap - in fact - for nothing.

Perhaps +Pat should ask the priest-psychologist to also reflect on this strange anomaly, which results in the strange goings-on.

They are often referred to as deeply dysfunctional, but one of Mo’s recently expelled from the Irish College is, apparently, a former barrister

  2. Pat, while criticisms about some issues are important in seeking truth and justice, I feel now that you are on a crusade of exacting a vengeance of sorts. You have literally wiped away any good done and, being done by most priests. You know in the present climate there is a huge anti Catholic sentiment and narrative, much is necessary, but you are fuelling a horrible hatred. As a priest on my own in a parish of 3000 homes, 3 schools and lots of pastoral and administrative work, I find this incessant negativity utterly soul destroying. Admittedly some of the issues are "home made" and unnecessary. However, I am challenged sometimes beyond my capabilities in the face of the ugly, offensive, bigoted and hate filled commentary here. I hope on this Ascension Sunday we call trust in the promise of Jesus to be with us more deeply as we await Pentecost. While some of the presbyterate have caused untold harm and pain, the broad sweep against all of us is very unjust. Also, I wonder how appropriate is it to print photos of individuals? And even of the you g Muldoon boy? I find your agenda distasteful and unnecessary. The cartoon like images are unfair. But you feel you have a mission to fulfil and I pray that you will one day honour THE SACRED MEMORY OF JESUS by being a light to light the nation. It hasn't happened and probably won't ever happen.

    4. Fr, at 08:55, with respect, there’s no point blaming Pat Buckley. People are going to him now whether you and I like it or not!

These scandals are real and they are not being addressed. That is the real problem - not this website.

Many of us priests at the coal face are astonished and deeply disheartened, like yourself, that these cancers are not being treated.

A group of men, priests and seminarians, are allowed to disseminate a poison that is undermining and destroying the mission and witness, of an entire presbyterate!

What on earth is going on? I, for one, am absolutely incredulous and I have many years of experience behind me.

Are high-ranking individuals compromised? I think we need to ask Rome to intervene directly. Decisive action is required. It’s not complicated at all.

A few seminarians need to be expelled from Maynooth as soon as possible.

Certain clergy need close scrutiny and their activities monitored, with a view to their removal from ministry, if they are unfit for purpose.

It’s not rocket science. If Éamon can’t/won’t do it, Rome needs to remove him also.

    7. Pat, I find the previous few comments to be typical of those who sit on the fence. In my comment at 8.55, I was simply meaking the honest point that criticisms are necessary, however unpalatable, and I welcome those as part of renewal. I was also making the point that as we are mostly on our own in busy parishes, it is often difficult to work more creatively and imaginatively for renewal and change. All I can do is my utmost best to care for my parish and it's people. That I enjoy doing but it's very disconserting to have a of us condembed in one sweep. Obviously there are critics who will never be satisfied and who have no capacity for fairness, understanding or sympathy.

It is Shocking that these Priest can type on this blog about the Cancer but NOT help get rid of it so my advice to you Priests is contact the Bishops concerned or the Papal Nuncio and if still not happy write direct to the Congregation for the Clergy the more letter the quicker the solution is found.

Remember these guys in the Seminary could be your Deacons or Curate name them to the Papal Nuncio and you can say you are a Priest and he will respect that but as the Bishops what is going on.

    11. 11.55: I use my own phone. I have free moments in between preparations. I'm not a super hero. I am disgusted at the constant negativity of some who probably only ever criticise but do nothing else. I am concerned about true, meaningful and genuine renewal. That true renewal must begin with me. Thereafter, I try to create a good, caring and welcoming community with and for my parishioners. I certainly will make my views known to my Bishop and Council of Priests, as I've done many times. However, my priority is my parish responsibilities. I was simply making the point earlier at 8.55 that the negativity drains all of us who try our best and, while Pat is not responsible for our problems, he does at times use them as a heavy weapon of condemnation. I engage with this blog to ascertain enlightened ideas, opinion and insight. But I don't always agree with them.

  3. Bishop Pat, I do believe the Archdiocese of Armagh is in trouble and has been for sometime now. A lot of it is down to its present Archbishop, Eamon Martin who has not shown leadership, is inexperienced for his role and is inept and out of his depth. There has been a litany of other ‘goings on’ in Armagh that the laity would be appalled by. Let’s start with the Armagh Farmer who complained to Eamon Martin that one of his young Priests had shown an unhealthy interest in his Son, tried to exchange phone numbers with him and told him not to show it to his parents. That Priest is still in active ministry, features on this blog and is well known to Eamon Martin and he was also very close to Rory Coyle. What did Eamon Martin do in relation to Armagh Farmers complaints - he ignored them and didn’t even acknowledge them by email. In fact Eamon Martin is well known for ignorantly not replying to some correspondents. Then let’s deal with Fr. Joe Quinn from Coalisland (same place where John Gates of Magherafelt comes from) who in the past got a young 16 year old girl pregnant and then paid her off with his own money to keep her quiet. It was all over the local Sunday papers at the time. Incidentally, Joe Quinn was a transient Deacon in Magherafelt parish for a while. Step aside trolly dolly Wilson from Maynooth (also from - you’ve guessed it - Coalisland) and another Seminarian from nearby Moneymore both from Armagh Archdiocese who are allegedly wrecking havoc in Maynooth at present. Now step along Fr. Martin McVeigh former PP of Pomeroy who was leading a meeting for First Holy Communion Parents, sticks a memory stick into his computer for a presentation and up pops gay porn for all to see. The result was Fr. McVeigh ran from the building in embarrassment. What did Eamon Martin do? He moved Fr McVeigh to a parish on the border. Step along one of the curates in Dundalk who has a serious gambling problem which is known to Eamon Martin. The Curate was previously in Tyrone, is a Derry man like Eamon Martin and Martins response was to send him south of the Border to Dundalk. It seems Eamon Martins philosophy is moving them far away across the border. Step along another PP with a major drink and gambling problem who was stationed (wait for it) in Magherafelt for a short stint but now is PP across the border close to the Meath border and not far from Dundalk. Armagh is out of control and it’s Archbishop is out of his depth. I rest my case.

    1. Joe Quinn! Surprised he hasn’t featured here before.

An absolute nutcase of the highest degree of nutcase. And a very very DANGEROUS individual. Totally delusional.

He came to Maynooth from some other seminary and, in Maynooth, it was obvious that he was absolutely barking mad!!

But they ordained him anyway! This is what happens when you ordain unsuitable men and to say Quinn was unsuitable is to put it very mildly. He’s dangerously mad.

He’s forbidden to minister but he’s not beyond dressing in clerics and masquerading still as a priest. He should be in a secure unit.

If Éamon Martin does not intervene and remove from priestly formation some of the current Armagh sems, then indeed there will be further DISASTROUS events to come.

If he has complaints about the behaviour of a priest towards a young person at WYD from a parent in the diocese - and does NOTHING - then again there will eventually be a catastrophic fallout to come. That priest needs to be carefully supervised at the very least.

The Church lurches from crisis to crisis and learns nothing. Inept and weak-kneed bishops are indeed a vast part of the problem.

Éamon needs to grow a pair of conjones and purge the diocese. Let the cards fall where they will but get these men out!!

If those seminarians referred to are “blackmailing”, call their bluff and, for the good of the Church and the safety of God’s People, GET RID OF THEM!!!

If you are compromised yourself, you need to get out too. Pronto!

  6. There will be much worse to come for Armagh if some present seminarians are ordained. Amy must be seriously compromised by these men. I'd say they have so much information on priests that Amy is blackmailed. Amy already knows that the Xxxxxxx was in a sexual cohabitation with a man pre semimary. How is that priest material? He has made passes at students in Maynooth, the result of one complaint made against him is that Hughie made a "educational settlement deal" to keep the victim quiet.

Then we have the xxxxxxxx, caught cruising gay bars whilst in seminary, caught in bed with a Cork seminarian but it's the witness who gets expelled. Then we have a serious pending allegation of him in a sexual relationship with a fellow seminarian that has got heavy handed, Mullaney knew all about it but covered it up. Lot of bullying allegations also.

Mayhem ahead. And it is the bishops who are to blame for destroying the Irish church by doing nothing.

Clearly there have been problems in Rome that called for decisive action in recent days. It is glaringly obvious too that Maynooth has even more serious issues.

So what? Do the bishops acknowledge professional correspondence in a polite manner? No. They ignore complaints and drive believers into underground movements such as this - publicity is our only tool to expose rot and call for reform.

The real problem is that men like EM and Crean ignore complaints.

Of the names I have seen here all the priests I actually know have all deserved the mentions on this blog... and I know a good few from living with them in seminary. I cannot speak for all of them though.
