DARCY CRIES AT MEDIA FUNERAL

WHENEVER I SEE OR HEAR BRIAN DARCY ON THE TV OR RADIO I FEEL QUITE NAUSEOUS.

As an old deceased Jesuit friend of mine said about another priest: "he gives me a pain in my belly".

Darcy is not genuine. He wants to be all things to all men and women.

If he was putting a bet on a horse he would be a sixpence each way man".

He thinks being liberal is all about wearing coloured shirts and hanging out with the rich and famous.

He is at every occasion he can get to - funerals, weddings, Christenings, wakes, TV shows etc etc.

It is embarrassing to watch him trying to muscle in on funeral Masses as a concelebrant and preacher.

At least the parish priest of Castleblaney put him in his place at Big Tom's funeral. Wish there were more like him.

Maybe there is something psychologically wrong with Darcy?

Did he not get long enough time on the breast?

Does he have attention deficit disorder?

Or is he just full of himself?

As they say in Belfast: "Here's my arse, my head is coming".

In 2002 I composed the poem below about Darcy as a False Prophet:

THE FALSE PROPHET

Clerical garb in all the right places.
T-shirt or polo at discos and races;
Platitudes foaming from passionless lips,
Anaemic gestures from limp finger tips.

As swift as a fly to freshly dropped stool,
The false prophet swoops to the media ghoul;
Posing at concerts and weddings and do's;
Widows and orphans and victims he woos.

Graveside photos consoling the grieving,
Newsflash images of tears most deceiving;
Emptiest sermons and smarmy old quotes,
Not fooling Christ's sheep but only his goats.

The "hire a priest" of every chat show,
Willing to go where you want him to go;
At night he's a rebel against canon law,
By dawn at the palace he's kissing their paw.

Tells you he loves you just as you be,
But won't life a finger to set your heart free;
Condemns the tough rules in his cringing style,
While watching his back with a sly sick smile.

Pretends he's in love with a farmer's young Mary,
They've never had sex as he's chaste and wary;
Others have said he's game for a hunk,
Would that be all right for a Catholic monk?

With an up front die-hard I'd prefer for to deal,
Whose hallmark's conviction and fervour and zeal;
But Trendy's so dangerous at sixpence each way,
"Get behind me Old Satan" I hear the Lord say.

    3. 10.11: This time Pat, you are hugely mistaken and have misjudged your attack on Brian Darcy. I think you are disgraceful in what you have written. Everyone knows Brian Darcy. You should take a deep look into your conscience.

  5. Pat, I think this parodying and criticism of Brian is most unfair and undeserved. I am no fan of Fr. Darcy but let's be honest, not jealous or resentful.Brian carries out a ministry among people in various walks of life that you nor I or indeed any other priest, could engage with. He has a track record in dealing with the world of music and celebrity. That's his forte and thank God someone can do it at his level. While I don't particularly like his intensity or showy side, I admire his abilities, his dedication and have often been delighted that he officiated at a wedding or funeral which I'd have found a little demanding. I think it's most unkind and undeserving that you should now harrass this priest. If you or I touched as many lives as he has done through his ministry, then we may allow ourselves make a judgment. What has Fr. Darcy done to you to warrant this nasty piece of invective? Somehow in some of your own nasty, unChrist-like behaviour, I too can hear Christ say of you Pat - "Get behind me Satan, because the way you think (and behave) are not God's ways.. "! Priests, at times, led by you, can be right bitches.

    Fr Brian may not be perfect, but has given his life of service to others and knows no bounds.
    Are you the perfect example of Priesthood?

    This blog is in the depths which requires major renewal and for you Pat go take a retreat on 'Love' if others, you've lost all credibility with this blog really taking you down.

    Disappointed with todays blog!

    Darcy is a fraud and it’s clear how some eejits are taken in by him and try to defend the indefensible. He has well and truly pulled the wool over some people’s eyes but others are slowly catching on to our Brian. He doesn’t speak for the Church, for fellow clergy, for his religious order even or for society, he speaks only for himself. He is a deeply jealous man and when jealous he can be vindictive - a trait of his that is most unappealing and not many get to see. He doesn’t take kindly if you don’t recognise him or treat him as a ‘celebrity’, he craves attention and the limelight. There can be an arrogance associated with all of that, he always name drops in company and you’d be lucky to get a word in edge ways. He is not flavour of the month with his Religious Order especially at the Graan, with Sein Fein who he criticised on tv recently and cosying up to the DUP, with top brass at Radio Ulster who want to drop him from his Sunday slot and with clergy like the PP in Castleblaney who won’t stand for his nonsense of trying to hijack funerals. Brian also needs to come out of the closet big time (that can explain a lot about the man) and dispel this false myth that he regrets not getting married. He also needs to encourage his closest male friends in the showbiz industry to ‘come out’ especially those who hide behind the cover of marriage. There lies the frustration on his part and the part of his friends. It’s a shame because his family from near Bellanaleck are nothing like him at all and if truth be told are embarrassed by his aul carry on. A complex man who is deeply unhappy, envious and an extremely jealous individual - all caused by frustration and inner tension.

  8. This is a most unnecessary onslaught on Fr. Darcy, unfair, nasty, prejudiced. He's not my first preference, but let's give him credit for his radical, compassionate and courageous approach to ministry. He has the ability to connect with people from particular professions and surely that's very commendable. I ask you Pat, in all honesty and conscience, to give one credible reason why you have targeted Fr. Darcy in so mean spirited a way? You seem to get some perverted sense of joy out of downing priests but this piece of garbage reflects more on you than on the subject of your nastiness.

    3. Ah now, he is bound by the church's teachings, unlike you. There is nothing to be gained in blaming an individual for the institution's rules.

      Today's blog is low +Pat. It is founded on prejudice and the many points made are not supported by evidence or cause. Brian D'Arcy might not appeal to all, but he does to some. Is this not a truism of all priests, including yourself? Has he actively tried to hurt anybody to justify such singling out? It appears not.

      I saw that Late Late Show years ago, at a time when I'd never before heard of D'Arcy, Daly, or Pat Buckley. Living away from Ireland, I'd taken no interest whatsoever in religion or the RC church.
      I have to say though that from that LL Show, I was as much impressed with D'Arcy as I was disgusted by Daly's intolerant, belligerent attitude to the very reasonable points being made by D'Arcy.
      I agree with comments above in that i think it innappropriate +Pat for you to use the blog to criticise D'Arcy. It seems a matter of personal preferences, and you're entitled to your opinion and dislike. But the blog, while it's your domain, is, in my opinion, not the best place to broadcast your personal dislike without clear factual supporting evidence.

Wakes, Funerals, Baptisms, Weddings, Anniversaries, house blessings, Radio, TV, Books, guest appearances, retreat giving and conference speaking. There is no transparency, no accountability, no scrutiny and no questions ask. We hear he has been left a lot of property in Wills and this whole financial situation all sits very uneasy with some who are not gullible and fools.

  14. One wonders why Catholics, particularly Irish ones, can be so blind to Clergy like D’Arcy. They are effectively patsies and without meaning to cause offence, thick! How gullible can one be? The Irish laity have form in this regard with odious individuals such as Bishop Casey, Fr Cleary Et al. They never seem to learn any lessons from said confidence tricksters and flimflammers and with this individual D’Arcy nothing seems to have changed. Judging from several comments earlier it’s clear that some are happy to be continually hoodwinked and fooled. The Irish laity never seem to learn any lessons nor do they wish to, which is, quite frankly, bizarre. Perhaps they deserve Clerics like D’Arcy, we know what they say about a fool and his money. As I munch on my hot buttered crumpets and read the daily newspaper I have no doubt Fr Darcy will be turning on his charm offensive elsewhere as we speak.

  16. Seeing Crossgar mentioned by Cathy above brings to my mind that tomorrow, at 6pm I believe, is Cemetery Sunday at Teconnaught, an outlier church served by Crossgar priests, sometimes from Tober Mhuire.
    It's a very rural community, and I've now been to several C. Sundays recently. I have family buried there, and am a non church attender anywhere.
    The regular comments made afterwards are invariably negative in relation to the length of the proceedings, the needless repetition, and the long-winded processing round graves sprinkling holy water.
    One 80+ year old local's comment last yer summed it up. In referring to the clergy he said:, "J'sus put them fellows on a stage and they niver know when to get off it!"
    So if any you Crossgar priests reading this are involved tomorrow: just get on with it and keep it short and sharp, especially if it's baking sunshine or showers. The Down match is on TV at 7pm! We know where our priorities are. If you don't wise up the people will just get up and go.

  18. Fr Ronan Drury of Maynooth who died last year left nearly a million in assets and cash. Brian will be the same. Darcy in fact defended sex outside marriage as not being a sin, said that he would vote yes for same sex marriage, defended abortion in a HotPress article. Yet lately he has been going on the telly spouting the Catholic line. What is going on? The Enniskillen cleric says he has had "countless conversations" with mothers faced with the sometimes heartbreaking decision of having to travel to England for a termination.

    "I have sat with mothers, night after night after night. And I have always said to mothers, 'Whatever you choose is the right choice'," he said.

    "I always say that to mothers. My own view is that we should try to save all lives."

    While insisting his views are still pro-life, Fr D'Arcy has backed the proposal to cover repatriation costs in abortion cases involving fatal foetal abnormalities, in order for the remains to be brought back to Ireland and buried if the woman has been forced to travel to Great Britain for an abortion.

    "Whatever about the abortion, I have no problem at all having respect and love and care for the little infant whose life didn't get a chance," he said.

    "So, whatever we should do to make the mother and father of that infant good, so much the better. I have no problem with that. In fact, I think it's a good thing to do be compassionate and loving in that situation."

    The rebel priest believes it is inevitable that the Irish government will repeal the Eighth Amendment to the State's constitution - originally passed by referendum in 1983 - which gives the unborn an equal right to life with mothers in all circumstances.

    Fr D'Arcy has admitted his views may mean his days as a priest are numbered.

    The Passionist priest also said he supports gay couples adopting, would have no problem giving his blessing at same-sex marriages and has called on Pope Francis to allow divorced people to re-marry in the church.
