DERMO THROWS A WOBBLER

DERMO MARTIN IS VERY FUNNY WHEN HE THROWS A WOBBLER - LIKE THE WOBBLER HE THREW THIS WEEK WHEN AN IRISH GOVERNMENT MINISTER WHO VOTED YER FOR ABORTION FILLED IN FOR A MISSING PRIEST IN A DUBLIN PARISH.

Here is the wobbler statement Dermo sent to the press after the incident:

Latest: Minister 'somewhat surprised' at 'personal attack' by Archbishop over 'saying Mass' comments
MINISTER MADIGAN TD

Update - 6.38pm: The Culture Minister says there was no cause for the attack on her by the Archbishop of Dublin.
Diarmaid Martin hit out at Josepha Madigan after she said female priests should be allowed in the clergy, calling the comments "bizarre" and claiming the minister had an agenda.
Minister Madigan stepped in to say prayers at her own church at the weekend when a priest failed to show up for mass.
The declining number of priests in the Catholic Church is something Minister Madigan feels needs to be addressed:
Ms Madigan said: "If I didn't address these issues when I have the platform now, then I couldn't in all good conscience live with myself.
"It's something that needs to be addressed, I think the Church is aware of that.
"I was somewhat surprised at the personal attack that was made on me, particularly as a member of the Catholic church and somebody, I wouldn't particularly call myself devout, but I certainly would have a strong relationship with God myself, and I don't think there is a cause for it."
3.05pm: Archbishop criticises Minister over bizarre 'saying Mass' comments
The Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has launched a blistering attack on Arts Minister Josepha Madigan for claiming she “said Mass” in her local church in Mount Merrion on Saturday, writes Daniel McConnell.
He has branded her comments as “bizzarre”.
As reported in the Irish Examiner, Ms Madgian was due to deliver a reading at the Church of St Therese at the 6pm Mass, only to be told that no priest was available to say the Mass.
But the Archbishop has taken issue with comments made by Ms Madigan in which she called for reform of the Church, including allowing abortions and women priests.
In a statement, Bishop Martin said Ms. Madigan's comments have caused parishioners in Mount Merrion and elsewhere “considerable distress”.
“Many have contacted my offices to express their hurt and upset at the Minister’s comments, as reported in the media,” he said.
Dr Martin insisted that there is no shortage of priests in the Archdiocese of Dublin for the celebration of Sunday Mass. He said that as a result of a misunderstanding, the priest assigned to Mass in the parish of Mount Merrion on Saturday evening, failed to turn up. It is in no way correct to say that the Minister “said Mass”, he said.
“It is regrettable that that Minister Madigan used this occasion to push a particular agenda. Her expressed view that a mix up in a Dublin parish on one particular Saturday evening should lead to the Universal Church changing core teachings is bizarre,” he added.
“Minister Madigan might consider listening to the voices of those people who disagree with her public comments, she might consider the hurt she has caused to parishioners who deem her actions deeply disrespectful,” the bishop said.
PAT SAYS:
I think its great when someone manages to get under the thick skin of an Irish bishop and causes him to react - and shows us what these geezers are really like underneath.
Dermo was embarrassed that one of the wealthier parishes in his diocese was left without a priest for Mass.
He was further embarrassed by the fact that a politician who was a prominent supporter of the YES side - and a bloody woman at that - stood up and filled in for the missing priest.
Basically, it just shows these boyos that they can be done without and that in the modern world there are able, well educated, men and women, who can do as good, and maybe a better job than they can.
These guys have kept God as their "prisoner of the tabernacle" for so long now, they think they own God.
People like Minister Madigan remind them that they DO NOT own God and that if people want it, God will deal directly with them - cutting out the DISGRACED MIDDLEMEN!

DUBLIN PP TO LEAVE - GET MARRIED - AND START AN ASHRAM

Father David Halpin - the PP of Clondalkin in Dublin is to leave the priesthood - get married - and start an ashram!

Wikipedia:
Traditionally, an ashram-Hindi (Sanskrit ashrama or ashramam) is a spiritual hermitage or a monastery in Indian religions.

Etymology

The wording ashram (Sanskritआश्रमSanskrit pronunciation: [aːɕɽəmə]) comes from the Sanskrit root śram- (श्रम्) which means "to toil". According to S. S. Chandra, the term means "a step in the journey of life". In contrast, according to George Weckman, the term ashram connotes a place where one strives towards a goal in a disciplined manner. Such a goal could be ascetic, spiritual, yogic or any other.

Overview

Sometimes, the goal of a pilgrimage to the ashram was not tranquility, but instruction in some art, especially warfare. In the Ramayana, the princes of ancient AyodhyaRama and Lakshmana, go to Vishvamitra's ashram to protect his yajnas from being defiled by emissary-demons of Ravana. After they prove their mettle, the princes receive martial instruction from the sage, especially in the use of divine weapons. In the MahabharataKrishna, in his youth, goes to the ashram of Sandipani to gain knowledge of both intellectual and spiritual matters. An ashram would traditionally, but not necessarily in contemporary times, be located far from human habitation, in forests or mountainous regions, amidst refreshing natural surroundings conducive to spiritual instruction and meditation. The residents of an ashram regularly performed spiritual and physical exercises, such as the various forms of yoga. Other sacrifices and penances, such as yajnas were also performed. Many ashrams also served as gurukulas, residential schools for children under the guru-shishya tradition.

PAT SAYS:
This is an interesting happening in the context of religion and spirituality in Ireland - a priest leaving his parish to found an ashram.

It also seems to show that Roman Catholicism is not providing people with the spiritual food they need?

Maybe Dermo and Minister Magigan can go there for reconciliation therapy?

  1. Pat, you are totally wrong about David Halpin. Totally wrong. David has a long time interest in Eastern and Western mysticism. Also he's not P.P. of Clondalkin. Never was. Get facts correct. As for Miss Madigan, she hasn't a clue, scripturally, liturgically or theogically. Her interview on radio was embarrassing and very self serving. Try as you may Pat, you are most definitely not answering people's " spiritual hunger" - if such exists in pluralist, a large carte Ireland. You Pat offer nothing worthwhile as an option or alternative. Nothing. You are an empty shell.

    - So says Josepha Madigan. Well, how very noble of her. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if she did not bring up the issue of declining numbers of priests, yet she can live with the fact that she campaigned for the killing of unborn children.

Something doesn't quite add up here and her conscience seems to be seriously out of whack.

She has some nerve to even get up and read at Mass after what she has been advocating, never mind appointing herself to lead a Communion service.

I rarely have much praise for Archbishop Martin, but on this occasion I say "bravo". And, yes +Pat, I would say exactly the same thing if a male pro-abort politician had done what Madigan did.

  5. Pat, this is one where I agree with AB Martin. No token Joe Soap can say Mass, its not interchangeable. As for that priest, I think he stopped praying, the Ashram is a perfect fit for him, bland spirituality with no objective morality

    ReplyDelete

  6. I do like the idea of women priests. I support the idea but do I want to hear any church politics when I attend church for prayers? Nope. I'd like a sermon on the Gospel.

The minister was asked to lead prayers but spoke politics. But could she have changed anything in the church? Nope - but she'd upset genuine prayer by talking politics.

Did AB Martin think he'd undo what she said?? Only God knows. But he has successfully taken her words to a few hundred people and ensured the whole country heard it. Will that change anything? Nope - but he exposed himself as an ass. He'd have been better overlooking it and recognising that the Roman church wasn't threatened by what she said.

Still it's amazing that he reacts to this more than the failings of the seminary council... the governance and management is not fit for purpose

    ReplyDelete
  7. Pat. One can only assume that Ab Martin jumped at the opportunity to slap down Ms Madigan. The fact that she was a vocal ‘yes’ supporter in the recent referendum will have shoved his blood pressure up an extra digit or two. Added to this is the fact she’s a woman daring to interfere in the sacred affairs of the Dublin diocese, the preserve of male clergy and now you have ample reason for the Liffyside prelate to mount direct ad hominem attack.
I think had wiser heads counselled DM they may well have suggested restraint and allow the matter to die a quick death. As it is now it has been well ventilated in the media. What’s worse is that he may well yet feel the full brunt of the revenge of a woman scorned.

The city of Corinth was known for its licentiousness, and this vice, sadly, was somtimes exhibited during the sacred feasts, esoecially if participants had drunk too freely of the wine/blood.

Paul was horrified by this, and issued his admonition.

    3. Big B at 13:22, Jesus appears to have been in some sort of, er, 'particular' relationship with young John (very likely a teenager).

The phrase 'the disciple whom Jesus loved' (or its variant, 'the beloved disciple') is stated no fewer than six times in the Gospel of John. Moreover, this gospel has the crucified Jesus say of the boy: 'Woman (Mary) behold your son; son behold your mother.' And the fact that the Gospel of John has the boy reach the risen Christ's tomb ahead of Peter attests not just his youth, but also, perhaps, his eagerness to behold again his beloved (against whose breast he had reclined at the Last Supper).

The homo-erotic overtones here are deniable only to the spiritually affronted, but not to the intellectually open.

Big B, should John, like Christine, be ashamed of himself for being in this relationship, with the one and only 'priest', Jesus the Christ?

Your point rests on the fallacy that priests ought to make such a vow - or in the case of ghe priest in question 'promise'. Celibacy is not really important to priesthood.

Also, you compare to a job contract - no other boss is allowed such an remit in terms of employment as to have a life-long ban on marriage. Admittedly some people such as Army Rangers and maybe sectet service agents need to be celibate; but not celibate and chaste. And they can marry after leaving field work.

    14. 19.13 Therese of Lisieux was very naive and very young when she died a long drawn out very painful death. Her works follow the style of the French bourgeoisie of the time. At that time in France the church was very influenced by Jansenism. Our God was a harsh judgemental God who would severely punish anyone who erred and was imperfect. Therese said that was not the God of Jesus in the gospels. They were wrong. (Very brave of a little mum in those times) At the beginning of the autobiography she said, " I have come to preach the mercy of God" It completely spun the church on it's axis. The Jansenists were wrong. The gospels have always been the spirituality of imperfection. Yes we are horribly flawed....but we are loved.....sorry I like her...she had some guts

Sign of peace offered before Mass (not during) which is contrary to the norm, locks the doors during Mass, so people who are late cannot get in. Doors only allowed to be opened when he processes down the aisle at the end and talks to congregation like they are all thick. Wears a beretta too.

  25. Hi Pat. I read with interest previous contributions re Lancaster Diocese. Bishop Campbell and his controlling and very unpopular Secretary Fr Billing ruined this Diocese. I’ve been overseas for 6 months and have returned to find them both gone. We should pray for them. Fr B is shacking up at a Parish in Blackpool with full board and lodgings paid for by the Parish, even although he is on a sabbatical until he leaves for Canada in a few months and Bishop C is retired to London I am told. The new man is Bishop Swarbrick, a Lancaster Priest who is doing a good job, already popular with clergy and lay. The place feels better for it. I hear he is soon to be flogging off the Bishop’s house as he wants to live in a Parish. Great example! Change is good Pat and let’s hope the Irish Church gets a good doze of it. In saying that, your blog would be very quiet!

    13. 17:31 God doesn't judge anyone: he simply allows a soul, in the inscrutable light of his love, to see itself as it REALLY is.

Most souls voluntarily go to Purgatory afterwards, such is the pain they experience about the one they have hurt and yet who loved them 'even unto death, death on a cross'.

Other souls will not enter that light, because they do not want to know the truth about themselves: they prefer delusion to truth. I needn't tell you where these souls go, of their OWN volition.

      Delete
    14. Typical attention-seeking gimmick by POD to see the bishop's house and then spend a fortune replacing it.

The new man will try a similar stunt to curry favour with Francis, who has spent €2m to take over a whole floor of the casa, while the Apostolic Palace apartment is still maintained and used by Francis when it suits him.

  28. I think the whole farrago of the "Holy Mass" is but an RC church invention. It probably started simply as the coming together and sharing of a communal meal among early Christians. Remembering Christ's words at the last supper, what was intended as a symbolic sharing evolved and acquired mystical status: the sometimes referred to 'ontological change' something only in the power of the 'priestly class.' And having acquired this special elevated status, the clergy further mystified it to preserve their privileged position of power and control over the 'ordinary laity.'
The whole concept of 'transubstantiation': ie the creator and maintainer of the whole universe being 'created/re-created/???' from bread and wine by a human is simply unbelievably preposterous, ...and then being consigned to tabernacles worldwide (how many 'Gods' are there locked away?) In this respect the old catholic mantra of "It's a mystery is simply ridiculous!)
No, I go with the suggestion of Dundrum Danny at 11:08 today on the last blog. I agree that at some future stage the whole transubstantiation idea will be re-interpreted, and explained away as simply symbolism.
