PAT SAYS:

TWENTY MILLION FOR THAT!

Euro 555,000 an hour?

And:

- No meeting with the victims of clerical abuse in Ireland?

- No meeting with the Magdalen laundries victims?

- No visit to the Tuam Baby Burial site - just down the road from Knock?

Meetings with the President, politicians, bishops, the diplomatic corps and the "great and good" of society.

RESTRICTIONS:

And Amy announced today that there would be restrictions on the crowds for "health and safety" reasons.

Only 650,000 in the Phoenix Park.

Only 45,000 in Knock.

I am just wondering if the bishops are coming up with early excuses to deal with the drop in the crowds there will be since the John Paul visit in 1979?

How many houses could be built for the homeless out of Euro 20 million?

And their answer:

"The poor you will always have with you".

Any way that the RC Church for you.

All I can say is that I will be nowhere near their party and I will not be contributing anything to it.

Imagine spending 20,000,000 to have a party to celebrate the death of the RC Church in Ireland.

  1. We could have written your script Pat. Typically predictable, tiresome and nasty. You live in your small vengeful, petty world. You are a twisted cynic and perpetuate a lie about the Church. You simply do not wish this trip to be a success in any way. You should mind your own business. You are a fraud and a fake. God bless Pope Francis.

    1. Why don't you run to knock or the Phoenik park screaming like a little bitch and be first in line to get up the Hierarchys arse.Pat will be more of a Bishop than any of those losers who will be wetting their little Lacey knickers dancing around Francis. Francis is no fool. He will see right through them fakes. Expect a lot of Bishop changes in Ireland after his visit.

    2. 02.08 Thanks for your reply and your good words about Pope Frances he has inherited this mess and will clean it up and the Archbishops and Bishops know this.
Sadly Pope Francis did not accept the first two to resign in Ireland and he has accepted the third.
I sadly will repeat myself these Bishops, Clergy and Religious who are not up to the mark should go NOW before they are pushed and any Bishops, Clergy, Religious and Seminarians have sex and Relationships GOODBYE.
The Church will Survive and be FIT for Mission.

  3. Any Head of State e.g. the UK Queen costs a huge amount in helicopter and limousine fees and wages for large number of security personnel (to name but two sources of costs) when a visit is planned, prepared for and carried through . We have had many such expensive visits and we also make visits ourselves at the expense of other nations.
However, we have not spent any money on a Papal visit for nearly forty years. The visit will actually boost the economy for certain Irish people, particularly in Mayo and Dublin but also further North eg coach companies, petrol sales, taxidrivers, catering and hotels, shops near the venues etc etc

    2. 08.38: Pat, you are just one bitter, nasty cynic. You should reflect on the words of Jesus too - you are very selective about what parts of the gospel you choose to live. God bless Pope Francis and the many thousands who will be uplifted and nourished spiritually by his presence. He is most welcome and bigots like you should stay in your little caves.

    5. With the secular state of Ireland today it’s obvious that there wasn’t much uplifting or spiritual nourishment after the last papal visit. Wise up. This is the last throw to try shore up the big holes in a sinking and stinking ship. It’s the RCC last big hurrah

    6. A blog is also a way of preaching the Message.

    7. 09.39 - Not the gospel message but Pat's bias and hatred, sadly!

      Delete
    8. 11:29, 'bias and hatred'?

Let's see. Helping to halt (however modestly Bishop Pat might claim) the ordinations to the priesthood of at least two highly unsuitable candidates.

Helping to expose the moral, spiritual and doctrinal deficiencies of certain seminaries, their staff, and students.

Helping to publicise the scandal of Magdalene-laundry abuse and the scandalous abuse of burying the bodies of poor children in a septic tank.

      And so very much more.

Yes, this has nothing whatever to do with Jesus' gospel message to do right, to serve God first and his beloved children as he would himself.

Where there's no Pope of Larne
Where there's nothing but Protestants stay.
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And flute bands play The Sash every day.

    No, no Pope of Larne
No chapels to sadden my eyes
    No nuns and no priests
    No Rosary beads

      Anon @ 01:34: I prefer this one.

      The bishops hide in bunkers.
      'cos that's what bishops do.
Eyes tight closed, hands over ears,
      they haven't got a clue.

In days gone bye, they'd always try,
      to let the storm subside.
I'm telling you, that just won't do.
There's no place left to hide.
When Bishop Pat smells a rat,
      and 'blogs of war' ensue.
      Bishops cower, devoid of power,
      their past misdeeds to rue.
      Amen!

  5. Before VaticanII the Popes used to be seen as the Bishops of Rome, and they'de rarely leave Rome.

But in recent decades they've taken to flying around the world as if they were the Dalai Lama.

Along with so much of what the Vatican does it's undermining the authority of the local hierarchy.

And every time there's a news-report that the Pope has said something or other it's detracting from the basic truths contained in the Lectionary readings and the Creed.

  9. Trips by world leaders cost money. I don't begrudge that. What I am angry about is why he isn't coming to Northern Ireland? For 50 years, what people associate Northern Ireland with is a form of religious war, one of whose protagonists he is the CEO of, yet he doesn't bother his backside to do a Clinton and head north and present himself as a peacemaker. It's been 39 years since the last papal visit-so perhaps in 2057, a pope might grace our shores again. Whoever comes that time won't find a Catholic Church here. I used to admire Francis but now I feel pretty cold. He has managed to visit countries where there are no Catholics or very few native ones on the ground. Albania (10.3 % of population), South Korea (7.9 %), Turkey (way under 1%), Sri Lanka (about 6%), Bosnia (the place with closest parallels to Northern Ireland in Europe-15%), Greece (about 0.5% -50,000 out of a population of 10 million), Armenia (c.14,000 out of a population of almost 3 million), Georgia (0.5%), Azerbaijan (250 out of a population of 9,900,000), Sweden (1.2%), Egypt (about 230,000 out of a population of 97 million), Myanmar (1%), and Bangladesh (400,000 out of a population of 160 million).

    4. And if it weren't for wikipedia, most people would be in the dark why a Pope has visited Azerbaijan, a country of 250 Catholics twice in the period 2002-2016 rather than say countries with more substantial flocks. Even Islandmagee has probably more Catholics in it than Azerbaijan.

    6. Leaving aside the pastoral content of the visit, the Pope has screwed up the huge PR benefits he would have drawn if he had come north on a 25 minute flight from Dublin. The headlines about his visit will compare the state of the Church to what it was in 1979. They will say that Catholicism was once all-powerful but now has been rejected by 70 percent of its population as in the latest abortion referendum. He could have come north, basked as a peacemaker building bridges and all that, but instead, he has forgone that. Whoever's advice he has taken regarding Ireland is totally wrong and idiotic. I have lost my respect for him.

Pat these young mem live under constant fear of reprisals from Collins and Mullaney. The survivors have their names blackened. Pat within the last few weeks Mullaney has conducted a cull of those deemed rejecting his extreme left wing ideology. A cull meaning Mullaney has kicked out more heterosexual seminarians. These seminarians are deeply hurt and traumatised by Mullaney. No support by means of financial aid or support to gaining access to further education or employment was offered.

    6. To quote John Buckley, "Maynooth are the experts in formation, they are not to be challenged'.

@15.26 In my lifetime I have seen many good men booted out of Maynooth only to be ordained elsewhere and be excellent priests. I have also seen Maynooth investigayed by Rome, not to mention many 'suitable' men being ordained in Maynooth only to leave within a short few years, snort drugs, rape, run away with nurses during their first appointment, be so unsuitable in parishes that they need to be moved yearly, be so unsuitable that they are perpetually stuck as Deacons.

So whomever 15.26 refers to I applaud that man. Also I too am from Cork, you do not speak for me when you rejoice and for your record my most recent formation report (which was quite a number of years ago) welcomed me back to formation and I speak following a lifetime of ministry where I have seen quality of men in my profession become seriously questionable under a seriously questionable bishop - with an even more questionable diocesian secretary.

I'm not sure what "gospels" such nasty attitudes are from but most definitely they are not from CHRIST. One wonders why Pat continues to carry his baggage of vengeance. One this is clear - however valid some of his criticisms may be, he will never inspire, encourage, lift up and touch people in the way Pope Francis does. 5. Bishop Pat @ 11:26, I recall a similar experience (Not by me: I've never been to that superstitious, sado-masochistic blot on the landscape), but by a woman who complained that, during her three-days fast there, she had been tormented by the oh-so-alluring smell of fried sausages wafting out of the 'holy' priest's kitchen.

Yes, these Roman-collared pimps sure know how to show consideration for others.

    6. The Lough Derg strict fast is non - detrimental to most healthy adults for the prescribed short maximum duration of around three days. So that is fine.
But it would be extremely damaging, irresponsible and unrealistic for the summer-long members of Lough Derg Staff to continue to restrict their nutrition in that severe way well beyond the prescribed three or so days. Got that?
What surprises me is that we need to tell you this fact which one supposes should have been obvious.. But apparently not..

    8. As I said 14:42, the Roman-collared bleep should have shown consideration for those voluntarily going hungry.

Such a fast may not be detrimental to the health of a reasonably fit adult, but hunger pains are hunger pains, wouldn't you agree?

And such a fast is difficult enough without some Roman-collared bleep, from gross lack of consideration, leaving his kitchen window wide open to make that fast even more painful and difficult. (I'm surprised I have to spell this out for you.)

No one suggested that this man, and his staff, should not indulge themselves with good food and drink while others, barefooted, were going hungry; this is all in your head.

But for Christ's sake! Would it have been asking too much, expecting too much, for these to keep in mind that a three-day fast is extremely difficult enough on its own without the added temptation from people who really ought to have had the 'cop' to know better? (I was going to say 'Christian compassion and consideration' instead...until I realised that such virtues are rare in Roman-collared bleep and their associates.

    4. In response to 11:19. Why can't Francis come to the spiritual heart of Ireland, namely Armagh? Surely, that's the centre of the Irish church? The reason why i won't get off my fat ass for Francis, this time, is because he has shown contempt towards the people of the north, whereby despite their suffering over the years, he can't be bothered to go and show the flag as such. As well as that, he would have been overwhelmingly welcomed by the Protestants of the north. Instead he will appear the ailing figurehead of a church that has gone down the gutter in the south. He will be a bit like the Dalai Lama.Nice man with nice soundbites(usually), but utterly irrelevant.

    4. Why do you so desire a 'reboot in vocations in Ireland'? To what? The priesthood of the Roman harlot? Because not one of these potential candidates would take a vow of obedience to Christ, but to the said harlot, to become her pimps.

There is no such as being similtaneously a good person and a 'good' Roman Catholic priest. A 'good' Roman Catholic priest is one who observes his vow of obedience to Rome through his bishop or superior, regardless of the consequences. And we all know where this can lead, for example, to the concealment of the rape and sodomy of children.

That nauseating exemplar of 'good' priest, Mr Sean Brady, obeyed his bishop and conspired, with other Roman Catholic pimps, to conceal the sexual abuse of two boys by the pervert Roman Catholic paedophile priest, Mr Brendan Smith. Was Mr Brady a 'good' priest? Yes, he was. In fact, he was a model for others aspiring to serve the Roman harlot as her pimps.

But was Mr Brady a good person? Would Jesus have supported his blind loyalty to the Roman harlot at the expense of these boys and the children Mr Smith subsequently went on to terrorise and abuse?

Incidentally, Francis has never admitted to telling that apparent lie about evidence against Barros. He has never accounted for the discrepancy between his claim that he had not received any evidence against this man and the fact that, actually, he had.

Shame! on Sean Brady to make an appearance for the Pope's visit and Shame! On Eamon Martin whilst he can't sort his diocese out. It is an absoulte disgrace. As a Catholic student I wonder what this Anger and Hate is all about in N.Ireland. It is hard to imagine when you listen to politicians, especially Arlene Foster when she said, Whilst she was elected as first Minister, She had said she was going to work with all Catholics an Protestants in N.Ireland and Treat others equal. But at least I know she is treating Catholics like dirt. And where is her government now.Arlene is a very bitter and angry person no doubt about it. Queen Elizabeth came to the republic of Ireland spoke in Irish. Came to N.Ireland. Queen Elizabeth even met more Pope's through her entire reign.I wonder can Arlene take a good look at Queen Elizabeth and ask herself who is a better example.Shame! Arlene on you
to Mock the Queen with those crowns you wear on your coat. Maybe Arlene,s eyes are now set on Theresa May's job next. The DUP are now ruling Teresa May in England and the rest of England with it. This is the way they try to rule six Counties in N.Ireland but wrecked the peace process. Why doesn't Arlene take a good look at herself an see the way N.Ireland is running without a government. The Roman Catholic Church is the true apostolic Church corrupt people are bringing it down but through the worship and prayers of true men and women faithful to Christ the church will be restored and all of the Christian churches will be united in worship.

  36. The Catholic Church has endeavoured to raise most of the funds necessary to cover the cost of the papal visit. Northern Catholics can easily visit the South if they wish to attend the papal Masses. A papal visit to Northern Ireland was never on the cards. Despite the Good Friday Agreement, the peace process, and all the international efforts made before and after those events, it is abundantly clear that the communities in the North are irreconcilably divided and there is no present or future hope of this ever changing. A papal visit to Northern Ireland could have run the risk of fomenting sectarian violence, or at minimum, causing further rancor and bitterness among the communities, in addition to imposing a great strain on PSNI. The Vatican has wisely decided not to risk the Pope becoming a source of inter-communal disharmony in the North.

  37. The invitation extended to the Pope recently to visit N Ireland was actually warmly endorsed by several prominent Protestant clergy who were anxious to show solidarity with their Catholic colleagues and neighbours in the province. This was definitely no surprise to some of us. The reason is that there are literally thousands of people from all walks of life in job situations, sports and other recreational activities, music and drama activities, educational activities etc etc who are completely integrated and for whom religion and political point of view doesn't ever infringe on our friendships and working relationships in the slightest.. not even in the darkest days of the Troubles. I am one of them I am very happy to say and I am not alone. But we never grab the headlines. Why are we always completely overshadowed by those people who seem to make it their life's work to live every aspect of their lives through the prism of sectarianism? I also blame those who paint N Ireland as a place where sectarianism is the only reality. It is not! This myth--that ALL of us live in a divided "unreconciled" way needs to be challenged for the lie that it is. But you rarely hear about that since the acts of bigotry and sectarianism will also be the matters which dictate the headlines and thus there is a distorted perspective for UK students and even our closest neighbours in the Republic of Ireland seem to have the impression that none of us from differing religions /politics etc can be close friends and work and play together. We do! But some others seem incapable of it and sadly we are all tarred with the same brush .. Very frustrating. Now we are been asked to believe that the Pope possibly shouldn't visit the North in case he "makes things worse"!! What utter tripe.. A hollow excuse which deceives no-one. The organisers should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, especially as Armagh is the liturgical capital of the whole country. Why was their decision not soundly challenged when the plans were being drawn up?

There are indeed thousands who are fully integrated just as you claim, but I do not agree with your portrayal of a supposedly fully integrated N Ireland. It remains a divided society where people in 'their own camp' may feel secure and distanced from threat or discrimination. But throughout the North there still remain huge swathes both geographically and otherwise, where a 'them and us' perception predominates, and the sussing out of strangers allegiances is pervasive. Those from outside the North may be oblivious to the games being played, but those in the Wee North know the score.

    2. Brother, I wrote at 23:58, and I commend you for your decency and generosity of spirit; you are not alone; if only there were more like you. But your views do not reflect those generally held in Northern Ireland. MMM’s comment at 10:32 expresses the way things are in the North. Fact: the Pope is not coming to Northern Ireland. You may dispute the reasons I gave. But he is not coming. However unacceptable it may be to a person who lives his life in a spirit of openness and generosity as you and MMM do, the fact is that Northern Ireland is and is perceived to be by just about everyone who doesn’t live there as a sectarian society. That is a fact. No sentiment or wish-thinking will alter it. Northern Irish are unconsciously anointed with sectarian oils at birth even though they or their parents may not wish for the same. And sectarianism is why Northern Ireland is avoided not just by the Pope but by international business. At one time the difference between Belfast and Dublin economically was vastly in Belfast’s favour. The position is now reversed. Yet the government in Northern Ireland, which is structured entirely on sectarian lines, was given exceptional latitude – not given to any other part of the UK - to fix corporate tax rates unconstrained by UK tax policy and rules. It was given carte blanche to write its own economic future. Instead of taking advantage of this opportunity, instead of expressing the community’s collective economic interests in the face of Brexit, it resorted to the typical Northern Irish stand-off.
