IS GATES BACK IN MAGHERAFELT?

There is talk that John Gates has returned to Magherafelt?

He should never be back there, in my opinion, as with his current  bullying and arrogant attitude he is totally unsuitable for ministry.

If he changes, and gets psychological change he may try a parish again.

Eamon Martin has the responsibility to control him and challenge him.

This Blog, through numerous Magherafelt contacts will be monitoring and highlighting any instances of abuse and bullying.

The abuse of the People of God by a priest, is totally unacceptable and is a mortal sin!

EAMON MARTIN HAS PULLED OUT OF THE MAGHERAFELT CONFIRMATIONS ON SUNDAY AND IS SENDING A MONSIGNOR INSTEAD.

US Catholic Church archdiocese reaches €179 million settlement with 450 abuse victims
Victims welcomed the settlement with relief but stressed that their emotional scars have remained.

MARIE MIELKE - ABUSE SURVIVOR

A CATHOLIC CHURCH archdiocese in the US state of Minnesota has reached a $210 million (€179 million) settlement with hundreds of victims of clergy abuse, resolving a years-long battle.
The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, which filed for bankruptcy protection in 2015 citing its exposure to an onslaught of abuse claims, said the settlement would resolve all of those claims, conclude the bankruptcy process and establish a trust fund for 450 victims.
“Abuse survivors could expect payments soon after the court approves the plan,” said Archbishop Bernard Hebda.
“I am grateful for all of the victim survivors who have bravely come forward,” he said at a news conference.
“I recognise that the abuse stole so much from you… The church let you down. I’m very sorry.”

HEBDA

Victims welcomed the settlement with relief but stressed that their emotional scars have remained.
“This is a great day for us and all of the survivors,” said Jamie Heutmaker at a separate news conference.
Marie Mielke added: “What was done to me has really interfered with the joy of being a mother.”
A 2013 Minnesota law was credited by victims with opening the floodgates in the Midwestern state, by allowing for the filing of lawsuits in abuse cases dating back decades.
The settlement ended one of the lengthiest processes of reckoning of church abuse cases in the US – a protracted battle that victims blamed on the preemptive bankruptcy filing.

Experts speaking at the Vatican said in 2012 the number of abused American minors is probably close to 100,000, with cases dating back to 1950 and implicating thousands of clerics.

PAT SAYS:

100,000 American abused by priests!

Thousands of priest abusers

It's obvious that this is the fruit of a VERY ROTTEN TREE!!!

As I've said before +Pat, surely it's more evidence that a very great number of RC clergy just do not believe in the religious and moral tenets of the religion they profess to represent. I simply do not accept that it's individual human failings that "explains" such widespread habitual behaviour and collusive cover ups.
And I applaud all efforts showing the dysfunctional degenerate reality of much of the RC institution. It's a man made institution in which there indeed are many devout well meaning spiritual individuals, but in essence one must question it's overall efficacy and relevance.

What sort of leadership is this? It is a total and utter joke. Pat did you not interrupt a live tv broadcast once of a Mass by Cahal Daly by staging a peaceful silent protest lol?

    5. Pat @ 09.33 If what you say is true, I’ve never heard the like of it. Is there not a neighbouring Bishop that would do the honours even though it’s very last minute. You are a Bishop, could you not do it instead of some Monsignor which is only a fancy title, it means very little and Pope Francis frowns upon it.

Is a man of God not a peace maker?

To call Dean Curry a 'Poddle' is an insult to a most sincere man that has give his life to the service of others.

    18. 10.07 Can Armagh be more honest about Eamons whereabouts. They told the Nolan Show he couldn't comment about what Fr Quigley said because Eamon was on holiday. Now you say he's at the war graves in Belgium - is it not inappropriate to call this event a holiday. Could we not have a bit more transparency from Armagh or is that too much to ask. Why are the people of Magherafelt being treated as second best and having Monsignor Curry sent, his he suitable.

    19. 11.50: A rather unfortunate phrase Pat - "would not pull out at the last minute" - what reason would you have to do that since you're not invited nor entitled to officiate. Simple logic. (Leave your personal life out of the issue!).

  4. Well there we have it. The most holy roman, catholic and apostolic church had, in its preservation action to protect its assets placed itself into bankruptcy so that the victims who were abused by its priests would be denied justified compensation.
Ain’t that just a fine example of Christian behaviour and responsibility for its sordid actions.
The attempts to stifle the already traumatised victims and subject them to further emotional turmoil is absolutely unforgivable.
Regrettably there are blind sheep who will place their hard earned dollars on the plate to support these plonkers. As Magna would day Baaaa

A cross-community delegation of young people from across Ireland will join the Archbishops in visiting a number of historic and poignant sites relating to the war, culminating in a reflective visit to the Island of Ireland Peace Park at Messines.

The delegation of 36 people includes a core group of 16 young people representing the Protestant and Catholic traditions who will have a chance to forge friendships and share their thoughts and hopes for the future while exploring their cultural identities.

    1. A long list of hypocrites there. The Church is a community of the committed, properly instructed who try to follow the rules. Cultural Catholics treat their local church like a hotel where you make the occassional booking. Even more shameful are the clergy who play along with this sharade.

    2. 17.02 I find it amazing all the people who are trying to justify voting in abortion on the grounds that they think they have more'knowledge' or awareness'. My vote was guided by St Anthony of Padua who lived his life as best he could in obedience to the bishops trying their best on faith and morals.

    2. 20.30 You are probably one of the two faced brigade clapping and running up to shake hands but ridiculing the man behind his back. If Magherafelt people are like you then you deserve Fr Gates you old hypocrite.

      Delete
    3. @20.30 Stand back for a moment and consider the options. This individual has committed numerous nasty and spiteful acts against the very parishioners he is suppose to serve and represent. Numerous parishioners have complained both to him and the Archbishop about him. They have got nowhere and indeed EM refused to acknowledge correspondence. Indeed of pontificating from your high horse, suggest a solution. Needs must, and I see no difficulty with parishioners directing their attention to Bishop Buckley in their forlorn attempts for justice.

    4. Pat Buckley has more moral and Christian fibre in his little finger than the unchristian and ungodly PP in Magherafelt.

    5. Good one gates.lam. The devil you know it. The church is opened to everybody. Its God's house as much as our,s and also that includes Bishop Buckley or anybody We are all human, The only problem is Fr.gates controls it and the parish with it.But at least I know there are far more than 50% would welcome Bishop Pat to Magherafelt Parish. So at least I have learned alot of so much goings on not only with the diocese an other issues on Bishop pat's blog. It's shocking.Total disgrace. Shame on parishioners sticking up for Fr.gates. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I will pray to God that gates will be shifted the sooner the better. Feels like a thorn in the side.

  41. John Gates at Mass tonight in Magherafelt had some pre planned orchestrated round of applause on tap for his return. He had the poor Curate Bruiser Brannigan standing watch nervously at the door of the Church during Mass. During his month of absence AWOL he has a very healthy colour but we weren’t told anything about his illness, his recovery or whether he was feeling better or not. He was making a fuss of young and old after Mass which was nice to see as it’s never happened before. Are we seeing a new Fr. John, a man transformed maybe?

  57. Dear Magherafelt resident of 45 years, as a fellow Magherafelt resident of 45 years I would love to know where u have came up with your 98% statistics, I’m genuinely interested as I’ve spoken to quite a few people who are as disgusted as myself at the lack of respect John Gates has for his congregation. He is quite the most arrogant man I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet and I was a regular churchgoer, not any more though as I can’t stand the hypocrisy! The man does not deserve the title Fr and as for your 98% statement I can assure u that I have spoken to a large number of people from Magherafelt and they all have the same view of Mr Gates, a power hungry little man who enjoys bullying people who are scared of him. I couldn’t possibly give an exact percentage of people who are not happy with Mr Gates and nor would I be so bold as to hazard a guess but I would definitely estimate the number of disgruntled parishioners to be more than the poultry 2% that you seem to be so sure of!!! So maybe you could enlighten me as to how you reached this figure or are you just another blind Gates supporter who actually knows nothing of the hurt he has caused to countless members of this community.
