VATICAN SENDS CORK BULLY TO MEATH

THE VATICAN HAS APPOINTED THE DESK BOUND BULLY - TOM DEENIHAN OF CORK - AS THE NEW ROMAN BISHOP OF MEATH!

While Deenihan worked in parishes and schools in his early priesthood he has spent most of his time doing desk jobs and attending meetings.

He is a slightly more intelligent version of Time Bartlett - who may also get a reward too - but both of them are equally ambitious.

Here was one message to the blog by a well-placed source in the diocese of Cork and Ross:

"Bishop Pat,

I got word this morn that tom Deenihan has got the bishop's post of Meath. I am so appalled. He has abused the people of cork and Ross for years, overstepping his mark completely, with threats and accusations and yet he gets the bishop. He is a power hungry control freak that gets off on hoarding power and his position over people. He must be stopped. The church is bad enough but to have a bishop who has threatened to remove the blessed sacrament from the people of God so that he could get his way. It's abusive of both sacraments and the people of God. I thought there was too much dirt attached to the man that he'd never get a bishop's post but I was obviously v wrong.

I'm completely disheartened."

My response is that you and others have every right to be disheartened.

It also PROVES beyond all doubt that the Holy Spirit has absolutely nothing to do with the appointment of bishops in the RC Church.

That institution is 100% politically corrupt and it is all about how many asses you lick if you want to get to the "top".

It is also about the Pharisaic canon laws, clericalism and the exercise of power and control.

In one sense it is good that the Vatican is putting these "stooges" in dioceses - as it will lead more and more people - more and more quickly - to see that the whole thing is going down the tube.

The priests and people of Meath are to be pitied today and they will find out soon enough that the mild manner Michael Smith has been replaced with a demagogue.

On the other hand, many of the priests and people of Cork are rejoicing that the yoke that was around their shoulders for years is now departing.

OH! AND BY THE WAY:

Was not Tom Deenihan the great friend of Horney Andy of Maynooth and who sheltered him in Cork?

And did not Deenihan try and get Horney Andy Andy a position on the University of Cork chaplaincy team - a move that was resisted by the chaplain?

What was all that about?

BON SECOURS, CORK

Deenihan seems to be involved in the Bon Secours hospital in Cork and some situation involving a staff member and a convicted paedophile???

  1. I remember him boasting to me about how he objected to the renewal of the liquer licence for the New Port bar in Cork city centre. He told the owner he would keep objecting until the bar installed tripple glazed windows in his presbytery... I have never witnessed such entrapment before or since. Tom held free windows above the jobs off several dozen workers.

In the past I had occasion to dine with him however his derogatory comments on waiting staff were disgusting, second only to how he treated them to their face. His conduct to brother priests has been an ongoing issue for years, resulting in him having to sit with unsuspecting seminarians at the annual diocesian dinner.

In private I also witnessed him mocking hotel staff for not making more of themselves in life. It was at this point that I cut contact as he went far too far.

I also met one man who Tom kept pushing towards seminary. That man took 3 weeks off work, went to Maynooth, confirmed it wasnt for him and left. That man told me he never had a sense of priestly vocation but felt that it was the only way to get Tommy to back off with the pressure.

God help Maynooth is all I can say. It might not be very christian of me to say it but Tommy is a first rate prick; God help Meath. And thank God for answering our prayers to be rid of Tommy.

I've had very little to do with the RC clergy for many years now. Your graphic first hand experience and description of this cleric well portrays the sense of separateness and entitlement I regularly used to see from quite a number of them.

Your point could be true of any post here. It's a truism. Tommy is free to respond. For what it is worth my post is both true and evidence that I dislike the man's attitude and conduct.

MMM, thankfully Tommy D was in the minority in C&R with regards to attitude. We have some wonderful priests, many of whom have been a great inspiration to me. That said, I have seen enough to fully appreciate how a conclusion such as your's can be arrived at with solid evidence and grounding. I believe that God holds a special place for persons pushed away from the church by the clergy.

That is very cynical of you. MMM may have made up his mind in the past. He has reviewed experiences in the present which affirm his decision in the current context. Is that such a bad thing? Being open to other people's experiences and sharing can be great for growth.

Also, in terms of news and truth, is it not you who distracts from the topic of the day; you who woukd prefer that we make assumptions about MMM rather than talk about Tommy D.

  4. I'm sure they must be singing laments in Meath. Meath, that jewel, a still rather healthy Irish diocese with many good priests, and Smith for all his faults, at least he has handed it on much the same, if not better than he received it. Now, for Deenihan to wreak havoc, the pig in his trough. What did the clergy and people of Meath do to deserve this abomination? Why couldn't they have left Dermot Farrell there and appointed him? What about the sense of the local church ? Farrell knew the diocese and by all accounts was not unpopular and the clergy would have been relatively happy with him as bishop. Now, he has to get to know Ossory (nothing wrong with Ossory), starting from scratch, while this hog from Cork eats up Meath like a giant cabbage!

A very benighted attitude. A vocation to be a diocesan priest in Ardagh and Armagh, in Killala and Killaloe is the same calling.

Priests of the CofI apply for positions across all 12 dioceses of Ireland and beyond.

A little broadening of the mind does wonders for health and longevity.

Priest: "An ordained minister of the Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican Church, authorized to perform certain rites and administer certain sacraments. A person who performs religious ceremonies in a non-Christian religion." Oxford English Dictionary.

Are you using 'definitely' as an adverb of manner or an adverb of degree? Either way, it adds nothing to your argument and isn't substitute for logical fallacy.

  9. I would challenge the interpretation that he's a "slightly more intelligent version" of Tim Bartlett. Deeihan has no primary degree. He did the "sem" course, a kind of special needs philosophy course. Bartlett was found a place by Paddy Walsh at St. Mary's to take a B.Ed degree after he left the Christian Brothers in Dublin (with atrocious A-Level results). Deenihan may now possess a Ph.D by part time study but he's no bright spark. It would seem that some of those careerists at the forefront of Catholic education admin in Ireland are those with the lowest levels of attainment....... just what the church needs as leaders.

  13. Deenihan better learn manners and courtesy and he better learn them fast. In Maynooth, he was thoroughly obnoxious and it seems he isn’t improved - got worse if anything.

A bishop needs his priests more than his priests need him. The priests of Meath will not tolerate anything less than respect and decency.

Likewise, the people of the diocese who found in Bishop Smith a wise and gentle pastor.

People are no longer “in awe” of bishops and, if a bishop is a bollocks, he will be given his pedigree very quickly.

Indeed, a bishop who misbehaves could find his position in a diocese unmanageable and untenable. If priests and people reject him, he is finished - like the German “bishop of bling” (NB Tommy).

The association with “Horny Andy X” is also puzzling. What indeed was all that about? If “Horny Andy” wants another shot at the priesthood, no doubt he will find a new niche as a seminarian for Meath!

It strikes me that the Church in Ireland now has a very severe ability deficit. Obviously priests who actually have ability don’t want to be bishops. Things are truly at rock bottom when very limited men like Deenihan, Bartlett, “Fanny” Mullaney and co, are on the “up and up”.

Talking of “Horny Andy X” and co, the sheer mess of priestly formation in the country also is cause for the gravest concern.

Positions once given only to the most trusted, tested and spiritual of men, are now given to voyeurs and prurient amateur shrinks, who get some sort of perverse thrill in the extraction of deeply personal and sacred information, leaving psychiatric and emotional wreckage in their wake.

No one is doing anything about it and sheer incompetence and inability reigns supreme at the highest level. The entire edifice is collapsing. The line from the Psalm “foundations once destroyed what can the just do?” is very apt.

God help us all on the ground who are at “the coal face” daily. We need God more than ever because the centre cannot hold.

The decline of the roman church in Ireland is obvious, so the roman church thinking is to be more hard line and more hypocritical?

I ask, do they want the church in Ireland to die? It is their cash cow and power control, but they are doing everything to kill it stone dead.

Anyone catholic under the age of 35 has mainly given up on the roman church. There are still a few left in there, but they are falling away at a drastic rate, leaving the white hair brigade to be the main money source for the church.

How on earth do they not learn anything in this church? I pity the poor people of Meath. Having Mussolini as their new Bishop will tear the diocese to shreds.

I am the first to admit the Church of England has many, many flaws. We are humans. But, I look at the roman church and give my opinion. That is all. Not with glee, but as an outsider who enjoys this blog, not because of seeing scandal after scandal, but because there does not seem to be anyone in the roman church who wants to change it.

I am proud to be a member of the Church of England, which is a broad church which has so many different people in it, from liberal Anglo Catholic which I consider myself, to conservative Anglo Catholic, to broad church, low church, evangelical.

"We are all on the same bus, who cares who the driver is" - in a paraphrased sentence from that great theologian Mrs Agnes Brown on BBC1.

Sorry again if I came across as rude, or arrogant, or smug, I type what I feel, I try to be as honest as I can, and so I am sorry.

  23. Why is Pat unwilling to acknowledge that he himself is guilty of the ambition he accuses others of? He appointed himself a bishop but he criticizes others who he deems as being seekers of episcopacy. Does Pat feel he’s above criticism?

    1. I became a bishop 20 years ago so that I could ordain priests. Simple.

And I have no power over anyone.

  24. 17.44: Thank God you have no power over anyone. You'd be abusive. Thus, having no power, you have no authority. Fake priests!!

  25. One would expect a bishop to be at least a humble unifiying presence in his diocese. The wrong man can be appointed to the episcopate as the Bishop Barros appointment in Chile clearly illustrates http://catholicherald.co.uk/commentandblogs/2018/06/12/what-the-church-must-learn-from-the-barros-affair/

  27. A Meath Priest is very happy and smug tonight. He's been telling one of the biggest gossips that Deenihan has promised him the VG job when he arrives in the diocese. If this is true then Meath priests will walk or move or defect because this potential new VG is hated by fellow clergy. It will be totally out of the frying pan and into the fire.

    1. Seriously. This is ridiculous. Who cares what drama is goin on within the Church. Keep out of it if you don’t support it and then mind your own business. Priests need to get into the real world and people here giggling and gossiping need to get gainful employment.

  28. Deenihan in Maynooth had the demeanour of a dangerously vitriolic fish wife. He had a foul tongue to match. A faithless gurrier who would have been hard pushed to get and hold on to a menial job on Civvy Street. The years have not been a friend to him and his already colossal arrogance only towers higher. Condolences to Meath but take no sh*t. If he doesn’t behave he can do a Barros.

    1. Most clerics wouldn’t cope in civvy street. They are leeches and moochers. The pedigree is the man who enters with a secular degree. This is usually someone of money and a good middle to upper class background.

  35. I love the idea of becoming a Priest yet saddened that there isn't a viable way for me and others be one. I am by no means perfect but definitely couldnt face maynooth politics. I am also anti clerical and anti institutional. Therefore I will have to settle being a layman. I pray that there can be positive reform so as more men and women can freely enter into a loving relationship with God and others.

  36. What is going on in the Irish roman church. It's not the first time we've had a bully as a bishop. What about Paddy Walsh former bishop of Down and Connor. There was a psychological, emotional and physical bully if ever there was one. Mind you his replacement Treanor and his henchmen aren't any better. They are running D and C into the ground because of their own egos
