  1. I feel very sad for Bill Mulvihill. I understand and to an extent share his anger but what does he expect of a church made up of flawed human beings? Each one of us has to struggle with our own demons, and if we can overcome them we are very lucky. Sadly they seem to have overcome Bill.

The Star according to the 6th line.
Much of Emma's speech seems an accurate reflection of reality in ROI. While it got an enthusiastic applause, I suspect it was from a fairly sympathetic captive audience. But as a presidential candidate I'm not sure her analysis however accurate will find agreement from a wider audience. More passionate emphatic delivery might help sway those more convinced by style than substance: a substantial number I suspect.
      But good luck to her.

  3. I hope Bill Mulvihill finds some utopian community this side of heaven. But I'm 72 now and I have lived long enough to know that such doesn't exist. We live as sinners among sinners. I'm sorry he feels so superior.

    2. Are you insane, 23:59?

Lucifer, and his legions, feel superior now to the institutional RCC. There is no merit in this; it is just another fact of life.

You seem content to live in an ecclesial moral gutter. If this is your choice, then so be it.

    3. One evening in October
When I was about one-third sober
And was taking home a load with manly pride
My poor feet began to stutter
So I lay down in the gutter
And a pig came up and lay down by my side

Then we sang "It's All Fair Weather"
      And "Good Fellows Get Together"
Till a lady passing by was heard to say
She says, "You can tell a man who boozes
      By the company he chooses"
And the pig got up and slowly walked away

      :-)

Forever spewing out your usual invective about The Holy Church, you seem content to live in in a drunken stupor feeling so superior but it's your choice, so be it. Love and prayers B Eviva Maria!

    5. @10:25: Mr. Bellarmine is back on the job banding insulting legalistic jargon with the ‘insane’ word. How do you know you’re not psychologically projecting yourself? Can you tell us what exactly you mean by ‘The Holy Church’ Can you tell us what ‘Holy’ means ? Can you tell us what ‘Church’ means? Have you any view on the current crisis within The Holy Church? Just wondering like so that we’re all singing from the same hymn sheet! God Bless.

    6. Anonymous at 11:24

Oh my, whoever you are, asking me about insulting words like insane? did you not read Mad Magna's comment.? I was only retaliating to the constant insults I receive from that quarter. What I mean by The Holy Church is when Our Lord said Thou art Peter and on this rock I will build my Church! I have a view on the current crisis within The Holy Church I would get rid immediately of all clergy who do not keep the teaching of the Church. Anyone who has abused a child Should be handed over to the Civil Authorities and prosecuted. They should be suspended A Divinis by The Church and dismissed! I don't suppose we are singing from the same hymn sheet, you are far to liberal for me. I prefer Panis Angelicus to Shall We Gather at the River, I hope that answers your questions. I am deeply distressed at the current crisis in The Church But I have faith, Our Lady said in the end My Immaculate Heart shall Triumph! so I have no fear. Love and prayers B. Eviva Maria!

      Delete
    7. The Roman Catholic Church does not have "Shall we gather at the River" in any of the Churches Sacred Hymn books.

And if you were a member of the Holy Mother Church you would know that.

And Last Saturday was the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Holy Mass was offered in every parish.

Sadly some people see you as very abusive in your blogs.

      Delete
    8. @13:09: Mr. Bellarmine, You’re the self professed Christian....Christianity is a praxis....’turn the other cheek’ . Read the history of the Papacy to learn about the rocking that’s gone on in Rome historically. How do we determine ...’all the clergy who do not keep the teaching of the Church’? Are you referring to child sexual abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse when you say ‘any one who has abused a child’. Not all abuse is criminal...that’s not to condone abuse. Regarding hymn sheets...FYI....recently I received the Eucharist from His Eminence Cardinal Raymond Burke...one of the Duba 4....my favorite hymns include Tantum Ergo, Lead Kindly Light, Ave Maria, and Panis Angelicus. I won’t be meeting you at any river gathering...don’t know what you’re talking about! Might I suggest you may be unwittingly displaying a lack of faith unconsciously. The problem with your strategy for dealing with the crisis in the Church is they’d likely be very few if any left at any level...in the clergy or hierarchy or laity. I’m not suggesting that most of the clergy or hierarchy or laity are criminals...far from it. Covering up crime is also a crime. Our Ladys Immaculate heart might triumph a lot sooner if people wised up and lived the gospel in practice...in thought word and deed. Never make assumptions and don’t be pigeonholing. ‘In the evening of our lives we judged on love’.,.and not on whether we were liberal, moderate or a traditionalist. By the way...Maga might be a lot closer to union with God than you think...How do you know ? ’Honoring with lips but hearts far from me’....Lip service has been a big part of the problem. God bless.

    9. Why does Bellarmine continue with this total clap trap argument. Does he not realise that it was the Church that chose what went into the New Testament, therfore it would only accept as sacred and inspired what suited its purpose.

      Delete
    10. Here Here 11.24, 16.18, 16.23. as you tell Bellarmine a few home truths and try and live by the Gospels.

Any sort of abuse is NOT welcome in the Roman Catholic Church and it will be rooted out.

Bellarmine can continue the personal attacks on Magna someone who is needing help for his addition so continues to attack the Church and peoples blogs due to drink.

The Roman catholic Church knows it has problems but come on 1.2 Billion members over 6000 Bishops of course it will have bad apples and they will go.

The Church is a Church for the people and serving its people in times of need and poverty.

The SVP does more charitable works of Mercy than any other organisations in the World as His Holiness has said a church for the poor and the sinner.

No Roman Catholic in the World considering the Sacrament of Confession would ever continue to attack someone with health problems like Magna and Bill.

Communion from his eminence? Burke gives scandal and raises questions by his wearing trains of long red material. That gear separates him physically and psychologically from the rest if us to make him appear like Antoninus Pius or Marcus Aureliya - the antithesis of the gospel and of western conventional maleness.

  7. Sadly for Bill, he has made this decision after some thoughtfulness. However, his rage, anger and irrationality for some time and his abusive approach to clerics and parishioners of Monasterboice were indicative of a very unhappy, unfulfilled man. As in every story, there are many chapters, drama, flawed characters and interpretations. We only get one side in this interview. There are many shades of colour but the bias of one is allowed to dominate. Perhaps in other interviews in the media those who know Bill, who worked with him and parishioners will tell their "truth". Surely that's only right and just. And of course there's Pat's role in all of this......another story!

  9. A wise decision for Bill. I hope he'll find contentment which seemed to elude him in contemporary priesthood. It must be remembered that the vast majority of clerics are faithful to their ministry and despite their flaws and sinfulness, despite their abhorrence at Church abuse scandals, do their utmost to live renewed lives, seek to make their parishes safe, welcoming, caring communities for all. It takes "courage" to continue against the background of constant revelations. I do not share Bill's conclusions or assertions. I'd like to read clinical research and studies first. It is a self serving opinion. I hope he and his family can cope with this episode and I pray for the parishioners of Monasterboice who feel hurt and betrayed.

    2. 09.18: Pat, same, usual dismissive response to genuine comments as I expressed at 08.24. It seems pointless trying to be intelligent, rational and honest with you. You have your mind made up and do not accept genuine comments. Why the dismissive attitude? Why the superior, condescending mantra that the vast majority of clerics are enablers of corruption? Utter nonsense, lies and totally ignorant. I and many of the clergy I've worked with are not "enablers". Priesthood is our life's commitment and we try to do our ultimate best. You may feel above us all but I thank God for the opportunities given to me to make a difference to others through priesthood and for the freshness of renewal which most priests create in communities. The many priests I know are men of principle and integrity and speak against abuse, corruption and wrongdoing. Please stop painting all of us with your dark, nasty brush.

    4. @8:24: With respect, this is not simply a matter of flaws, sinfulness and abuse ‘scandals’. This is about wholesale systemic world wide CRIME. We are all weak flawed and sinners. But we are NOT all criminals and we are NOT all in leadership positions as ordinaries with their duties obligations and responsibilities. No doubt it takes courage to continue in ministry. Most people know or have known good priests. I’ve had the privilege of knowing a Priest who may , in time, be canonized a Saint, a rare form of life in the Institutional RC Church at any time.
It’s time for all good Priests to have moral courage and challenge their Bishops with charity and it’s time for clergy to get real. We are all ultimately accountable to the Lord. I suggest you check out the work of awsipe.com if you haven’t studied his work. He has excellent publications on this issue.
I wish you well in your ministry.

    5. 10:29, you are living in a dystopia of self-delusion about the institutional RCC, a form of madness reinforced by use of such archaic phrases as 'Holy Mother Church' and 'Holy Father'.

You display sycophantic deference that isn't genuine humility, but inverted pride through lack of self-worth. In fact, historically it is this deference which facilitated child-sexual abuse by 'holy' Roman Catholic priest-parasites down the centuries, because it ensured that their satanic conduct would not be called into question.

When Jesus spoke of the strayed sheep and the searching shepherd, he was referring to himself, not to the institutional whore you have set up in your heart as a false god.

'Holy Mother Church' weeps for no one but herself, for she cares for no one but herself. It is why Pope Francis, after the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report, could speak, truthfully, of the institutional Church's having abandoned the little ones. No tears here for those this stinking whore so callously cast aside.

And wasn't that video encsconced on the highest bookshelf in my room? Well out of your miniscule reach, even in those red, patent-leather stillettos? You must have climbed onto my bed (minus the stilletos) and 'trampolined' for a clear view.

Dearest, I knew what you would think of me for possessing that video, so I, thoughtfully, placed it well beyond your reach, to spare your fragile sensibilities.

Don't you recall my telling you, some years ago, that I was researching medieval literature (with an accent on Chaucer) for a master's degree (an M.Litt)? The video was part of my, er, filmography for that purpose. I assure you I was completely dispassionate on reviewing it; the consummate professional. As, indeed, would any like-minded scholar worth his academic salt. Yes, I was visibly wooden throughout.

As for Cantullus. Too avant-garde to meet my classical taste. (Didn't he, er, bat for both sides?) Still, he's serving a purpose even today: you'll find him in your bedroom, propping up that shortened leg of the commode.

But I'm now more worried by the talk above of you renouncing your baptism! Tell mummy it isn't true, darling, please.
Well there's only one thing for it. I'll have to creep into your room at night and redo you when you're asleep, just in case you've taken this rash decision and kept it from me. The instructions are in the missal, it's not difficult. You may not like this, but mummy knows best, after all I never asked you the first time you were baptised did I?

Since you are in that mood - just thought the word "cesspit" covers many a strange behaviour. It's an apt word for the cesspit you inhabit as evidenced by your self righteous intolerance - the cesspit of vengance, vindictiveness, hatred, using vulnerable people, ridiculing, name calling - need I go on!! There are exemplary good priests who are committed to justice and truth, who serve their parishes with care and dedication - all of them are as outraged as you are at wrongdoing, corruption and abuse. They speak their own abhorrence and ensure that they do their utmost to make real the gospel of Christ. Many priests struggle, like you, in their sinfulness and flawed humanity but to continually accuse all clerics of complicity is very unjust. I stay because I believe in my calling to be Christ and to be part of the Body of Christ. I am grateful that I've been given that gift and privilege and try my damnest to honour it. I wish Bill well but there are very many "quiet and gentle" prophets effecting wonderful renewal and change in parishes right acroos the country.

  14. Bill is taking a prophetic stand against extreme clerical corruption. Renouncing baptism is extreme, but remember the vicious control the clergy have over the gateway. In the USA priests are refusing to baptize children of gay parents. Don’t forget the countless numbers of unbaptized babies who were consigned to Limbo and their bodies buried outside the Church. Should anyone still complain bloggers are being too hard, remember the clergy attitude to grieving mothers. Reference has been made on this blog to the corrosive effects of the clerical life on otherwise probably quite nice blokes, who were not necessarily shits when they entered the seminary but certainly became so. In the land of Vinny and Bunny, I have observed many mild mannered Anglican clerics crossing over owing to their difficulties with women ( please! ) and becoming shits, believing they had to prove their authenticity by condemning contraception and learning how to celebrate the Tridentine Mass. Bill is going gloriously if a tad intemperately in the other direction, and I know who I would rather follow.

    3. 10:38, to paraphrase Jesus' words in the Gospel: how long am I to bear with you f**kwits?!

Did you not know that Pope Francis himself criticised priests in South America for refusing to baptise the children of single mothers? This was only a couple of years ago. And yet, you 'find it hard that a priest would find it hard not to Baptise (sic) an innocent child'.

Do you know what I find difficult? Your appalling ignorance of priests' propensity for arrogance and dominance.

And as for the utter stupidy, and navel-gazing hubris, of your prediction (that 'most of the people on this blog will likely return on their deathbed'): return to what? The stinking whore that is institutional Roman Catholicism?

Jeez! The lunatics haven't just taken over the asylum; they're demolishing it right over their own heads. 😢

    4. 11.00 Keith Newton was appointed by Pope Benedict and many Roman Catholic's are not happy with the set up they are like a bolt on but that is what Pope Benedict did.

first ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham. Prior to his reception into the Roman Catholic Church in 2011.

See the confusing part is the reception into the Roman catholic Church it is all mixed up as in some diocese the True Roman Catholic go along to their services thinking it is the same when it is more Anglican.

He is allowed to dress up and he loves it and he covers England, Wales and Scotland but all responsible to the ordinary of the diocese they are in.

That is what will likely happy with Pope Francis and the SSPX as they are in discussion at the Holy See and Pope Francis has granted them permission for weddings and a few other thing but they must let the ordinary of the diocese know as well.

    8. There used to gather to say the Rosary outside LGBT masses in Soho a group of old hags in knitted hats and shifty masturbators. Which are you, you poor creature? Bishop Peter Doyle is a sensible man, and why the hell should he object to a discussion? He is going to have his hands full enough having to explain why Father Francis McDermott formerly PP of Aylesbury was allowed to take early retirement in far off Devon having just turned sixty, but 15 years later ( still alive ) is answering a host of very serious criminal charges of rape and sexual assault against children, committed in the seventies and eighties. Was there the usual cover up? And you are frothing with pent up rage over a discussion group openly advertised?

    9. Bishop Doyle was not in Northampton 15 years ago so it's hardly his fault. It was Archbishop McDonald who had been a pen pusher in Rome, Rector of Oscott, bishop of Northampton then Southwark. He took very early retirement because of ill health but amazingly still manages to turn up at all the big events and gives talks. At least he didn't claim to have lost his marbles. Incidentally he was always referred to as 'Amy' and promoted by CMOC.

      Delete
    10. Fair enough, though I think McDermott was hurriedly pensioned either before or after McDonald’s brief tenure when Northampton was sede vacante for a couple of years - also very odd. Neverthelss it is a small diocese desperately short of priests, though one of its retirees Father Keith Sawyer has swelled the numbers of clergy at Westminster Cathedral for many years now - seems a nice man, actually who understandably prefers W1 to Daventry. But I digress: didn’t Doyle ever question why his cash-strapped small diocese continued to maintain a priest only in his early sixties in comfortable retirement in Westward Ho? I seem to recall McDonald also referred to as Cat Woman back in his pomp. What was that about? Seems a bit catty for a distinguished prelate.

Ireland has been a cradle of caca on the quiet exporting caca merchants to the four corners of the globe. So Mass attendance isn’t exactly a reliable barometer for anything. I’m curious to know how ‘people know how to differentiate between the rotten apples and the real thing’. Are you making a comparison between bad apples and Coca Cola? 1. RCIA is for the many of the laity joining the Roman Catholic Church every Easter.

RCIA has done away with the one to one with the Priest so this help give the Priest more time for the Sacraments although he can take part in the RCIA programme with the team

      Delete
    2. Perhaps you don’t have RCIA in Ireland, where everybody has already been through the Catholic mill. Back in the seventies and eighties it was the territory of liberated female religious, certainly in the Archdiocese of Westminster. Emancipated through the Enneagram from their former vocation of forcing little kids to eat soap, these elderly Sapphists would sally forth each day from their Holland Park or Notting Hill mansions to act as parish co-ordinatiors. Needless to say the lads from Allen Hall on parish placement hated them, and the feeling was reciprocated by the sisterhood snitching on the more retro tendencies of the queens. This was Basil’s Westminster.

It is the most extreme piiece of clericalism, and totally misguided and unacceptable particularly in the present climate. Though never entirely convinced, I had been inclined to trust Francis. Now I am through with him. What a set up. No wonder Bill wants out. I’m afraid I don’t have his courage. More fool me.

    2. Yes, I've just read the address, his homily this morning at Casa Santa Marta.

Unbelievable! In parts. Take this: 'He (Satan) tries to uncover the sins (of the bishops) so they are visible in order to scandalize the people.' Sounds an indirect appeal to continue the systemic Church policy of cover-up, the very moral crime that itself gravely scandalized the people. And it suggests that whistle-blowers of the bishops' sins (crimes) are themselves accessories to Satan's subterfuge.

The oily Latino goes on to say this: 'A bishop's strength against the Great Accuser (Satan) is prayer.'

No, it f**ki** isn't! It's moral integrity, disregard of clericalism (putting priestly repuration ahead of others' physical, mental, spiritual welfare), and transparency with people. To say the least!

This oily Latino bastardo wants to turn back the clock.

Oppose these parasites! They bleed you financially. Then they bleed your body, mind and soul.

These remarks are probably the most evil, satanically ibspired that have come from the oily Latino.

      Away with this dirty bastardo!

Away with all bishops, all priests. The 'headlice of humanity'!

My understanding, from previous posts, was that Bill had an issue with a specific set of cases and the behaviour and cover up of a specific priest, which had led to horrific results. I read the Daily Star article and it is, frankly, empty of content. I think the real story is not Bill's apostification (is that the right word?) but the cover up of an abuser.
