EAMON MARTIN AND SEXUALLY ACTIVE PRIESTS

FOR WHATEVER REASON EAMON MARTIN OF ARMAGH APPEARS TO BE TURNING A BLIND EYE TO SEXUALLY ACTIVE GSY PRIESTS.

Some Armagh priests are in a long-term sexual relationship with other priests.

Some Armagh priests are in long-term relationships with other men who are not priests.

Some Armagh priests are on Grindr and other sites.

Some Armagh priests are in loved with seminarians and other younger men.

Some of these younger men are being treated to holidays, trips, designer clothing, and other treats.

There are reliable rumours that a number of young men are providing personal "services" for priests.

Eamon Martin has remained very silent about the Maynooth and Irish College scandals.

I have personally written to him about several cases.

Most of the time he does not respond.

Eamon Martin has shown himself to conservative and traditional on Catholic teachings.

For instance recently on Rome and Maynooth, he spoke about priests and graduates responsibility to work to missionize Ireland again to Catholicism.

You would have thought that if Eamon was very keen on imposing Catholic teaching he would be imposing it on his own clergy.

What is at the root of Eamon's lack of action?

Are so many priests involved that he cannot deal with them with reducing the Armagh presbyterate greatly?

Many Armagh clergy dislike him already.

Is he afraid to swell the numbers of those who dislike him?

In any event as the primate of Ireland, he is not giving leadership on this issue.

Why?

I would be interested in readers opinions about his inaction.

  1. I'm a gay priest in my 30s and occasionally have hookups via Grindr or Scruff. Honestly, I find this blog to be just as moral panicky as the conservative and traddie blogs. If two guys want to meet for a bit of intimacy, to make life a little a little less unbearable ... well, God bless. This blog destroys the lives of priests who in so many cases live in complete desperation. I suppose the bottle and pixelated flesh is preferable to an actual human connection? If so, then, God help us.

    1. 23.57: I doubt you are a priest as if you are, you lack discretion and right judgment. Why would you be so blade about an issue, when discussed here, gives all clerics a bad name. You are a foolish you g man if you believe in this blog for fairness or understanding and equally foolish to highlight your irresponsibility in your behaviour. If you are a priest, which I doubt, you have much to learn. Anyone can come on this site and pretend to be a priest making such careless, troubling comments.

    2. Anon at 23:57 speaks for many!

Gay sexual intimacy no longer leads most people to have conniptions.

Ireland is one of the most gay-friendly countries.

So Irish people, unlike the right wing in America, are quite lenient about gay priests and their discreet personal lives.

I think Grindr is such a common app, that most gay men have used and some have found worth not deleting from their smart phones, that to get into a tizzie about it is rather comical.

Have a look at the numerous reports on clerical abuse world wide and the appalling amount of indiscretion and wrong judgement from priests, bishops and cardinals.

    6. @23:57, “Priests” like you in the gay community are well known. Liars and hypocrites with your amused contempt for your parishioners and crass cynicism towards the life you are supposed to have chosen. You are comfortable, cosseted, self-indulgent, self-fixated, homo bachelors, who wouldn’t last a day in the real world. “Sure we have the aul wans fooled to the eyeballs so we do”, you and your ilk joke. You’re a joke, “father”. Have some honesty and decency. Get out of the priesthood and join the rest of us. Leave the priesthood to those few men who genuinely believe in God and God’s teachings. Men like you are liars and traitors through and through.

    8. Archbishop Eamon Martin will not reply to you as the Solicitors would not allow him to do and therefore NO reply.

But action is and will be taken all over Ireland to get rid of the Actively sexual clergy their days are numbered.

However if you all have these facts rather than hot air then the bishop's will act but it is all down to FACTS and you very seldom get facts on this blog usually gossip.

So Bishop Pat if you are getting ignored by Archbishop Eamon then send it to the Papal nuncio or to the Congregation for the Clergy.

Be rest assured the Church does not want these sexual active clergy it is against their vows.

    12. The temptation to snuff out your own life? Is that supposed to make us all feel sorry for you now, diddums?

Get over yourself and get out of the priesthood. You shouldn’t have offered yourself for ordination with your “hurricane in a bottle”. So spare us your drama and pathos you pathetic excuse for a “priest” and a man.

Learn some honesty. It’s not too late even in 30’s. Creeps like you turn my stomach.

By the way, if you “snuff” yourself out you will find yourself dealing with the God against whom you are sinning and mocking with your false life.

      Seriously, get over yourself bud.

I dislike the use of your phrase "snuff out my own life" - very wrong phrase and hurtful to those who have lost a loved one through suicide. You mighn't care what others think about your "live let live" attitude but words are important around suicide. Just keep that in mind, young priest when you officiate at a sad funeral mass!!

  2. Bishop Eamon Martin is weak as a leader. He doesn't appear to be able to control his Diocese. I'm sure he doesn't care less what his priests get up to. He can't even control a bully Priest Fr.Gates in Magherafelt Parish. The Parishioners are suffering and have begged Eamon Martin to remove Fr.Gates. But Eamon Martin ignores them. So Pat your help is needed if action is not taking by Eamon Martin.

    1. @23:57 & 00:21; Priests are ordained and 'employed' by the Rc Church to supposedly further the mission of Jesus Christ. The Rc Church teaches and preaches that homosexual acts are intrinsically morally evil.
Has the Rc Church teaching on homosexuality changed?
Who finances the clerical homosexual, hook-up, hypocritical lifestyle? If their lives are that desperate why not leave the Priesthood, find a job and lead honest authentic lives of integrity and not lead a double or treble life. Far too many clerics both homosexual and heterosexual want to have their cake!

    2. Nowadays most believe that people, especially men, insisting on other men being celibate are even bigger perverts than “celibate” priests.

    3. @13:46;

      Tell that to the Pope.

    4. At 10.32
The RC church does not employ priests. Each priest is self-employed on a donation basis. Check with the revenue commissioners if you like. There is no legally enforceable relationship between a bishop and a priest and to enforce celibacy would have no civil law standing.

If a priest tells a bishop to F-off the bishop can only cry like a baby. If a priest refuses to move the bishop can do nothing because the priest lives in the parish's house so only the parish can evict him.

Most bishops should be told to f-off.

    5. @19:56; Do priests receive a payment from the church or the diocese weekly or monthly?
Where does the promise of obedience made to the bishop fit into the scheme of things or do a lot of priests not take it too seriously?

      Delete
    6. @21.49
They receive all payment from parishioners. The church pays no employee PRSI for priests. I say again, they are all self employed.

The promises you mention are essentially voluntary undertakings; the seriousness of which depends on the individual priest.

  4. The only reason Bishop Eamon Martin is turning a blind eye is because he can't be bothered carrying out his job as a Bishop. He was rushed into the job of Primate of all Ireland far too soon. Far too young, Inexperienced. Older bishops more experienced. Is it any wonder Armagh Diocese is a complete mess. Good Priests are getting a bad name. And while other priests who are misbehaving badly. Get rid of the bad priests Bishop Martin do your bloody job instead of sitting chirping like an old bird.

  11. Some observations:

    1. Eamon Martin is aware of the realpolitik of his situation and of the balance of power in the Church in this day. The real power lies with his clergy. They need + Eamon less than he needs them. If he challenges clergy, and they walk, then + Eamon is left with a big problem and no priests to cover slots, unless he gets in the Fr Innocents and Fr Sundays from Nigeria and such places, who present their own set of problems.

    2. Outside of the Church, the balance of power has also shifted. Witness + Longley and + Nichols in England being summonsed - not requested, note, but summonsed - to appear before a tribunal to give an account of themselves and their dioceses, on oath. What might previously have been left to the internal disciplinary processes of the Church is now being attended to by the State because of the magnitude of crimes committed by clergy. Bishops have been brought low, and they realise it. They no longer can expect deference, either from their own clergy, and not from the lay authorities anymore. What has emerged and will continue to come to the light is the abject ineptitude of bishops, their criminal connivance in evil acts, and their plain naivety and stupidness. How can they be taken seriously, or trusted, again ? And they know that themselves.

    3. Who would want to be a bishop ??!!!

    4. I just take it for granted that any priest I meet is gay, until proven otherwise. It's safer that way !

  14. Pat as said earlier, your blog is gossip/hearsay. Fr John Gates has cropped up quite a few times over the past months. What's changed ???. He is still in Magherafelt regardless of the hate campaign. It's blatantly obvious that it boils down to a few disgruntled people, nit picking. If a thousand signed a petition, why is the Church and collection plates full at weekends ??? As the grapevine leads us to believe, Canon Gates will still be in Magherafelt creaming standing ovations again. He is King of the Castle and no amount of bitching on here will change that.

    ReplyDelete

    1. @ 17.27 There was no standing ovations just stage managed clapping by a few of his fan club. If you had been observing properly in the past number of months collections are down not up. If you were fully informed you would realise it is far from a hate campaign against Gates. Given the amount of signatures collected in the past few weeks to get him out it's hardly a few disgruntled people. When you are abreast of the true facts then i'd keep quiet until then.

Did you not say you where protestin at the Confirmation in Magherafelt ???. Fr John Gates is still here and there was no protest or media/press either. Fr John Gates is being bullied by this blog as is Bishop Martin. Both good Men and will be around a lot longer than this gossip.

    4. 18.14. You would need to learn to spell protesting. John Gates will be leaving this time for sure. He is the most ignorant Ill mannered Priest Magherafelt ever had. He is not a good man when he is bullying people of our Parish. This blog is not bullying Gates, or E.Martin. It's people's views to let others know they are been intimidated by Gates. So you think you are smart about no protest. Think again be prepared for next few weeks. This will not stop to Gates is gone.

  15. It's not looking good for + Vinny Nichols. Have a look at this from The Tablet:

    https://www.thetablet.co.uk/news/11005/absent-cardinal-criticised-for-abuse-failure-

Mind you, if Vinny were a young priest again, I bet he would have the ambition to be a bishop and cardinal. He's built that way. I reckon he's even got his mind on a position in Rome when he leaves Westminster at 75 (or earlier). Cardinals, remember, can go on until 80.

But, he does need to keep in mind that, just as political careers often end in failure and some disappointment (soon to be experienced by the MayBot), so can grand ecclesiastical careers end in failure and disappointment.....as in O'Brien, McCarrick, even Cormac O'C who was continually dogged by his various failures when bishop of Arundel and Brighton. Vinny's time in Birmingham, and his resistance to intervention by outside agencies in his diocese concerning clerical sexual abuse, and some questionable decisions he made, have the capacity to hole him below the waterline and begin the process of a slow sinking of his vessel.

I do hope that Vinny comes across as truly sorrowful and cognisant of his failures when he appears before IICSA, rather than just being his usual suave self. They will see through that. They are not fools and they are not beholden or accountable to Vinny, as are most of the people he ends up dealing with in the Church. They will let him know that. He will meet his match at IICSA is he doesn't pitch it perfectly, honestly, and humbly.

To add to Anon@ 13:58's excellent post.

Research into management shows consistently how people, good at a job, very regularly get promoted to manage others. But a whole different set of skills are then required, and while some do possess basic people management skills, many newly promoted managers simply fail to adapt, to learn quickly on the job and without extra training on the specific skills necessary, continue to make a hash of the new role.
This is the "Peter Principle": "In many hierarchical organisations people are promoted to the level of their incompetence....and there they stick."

I suspect Martin busies himself with minor issues he feels comfortable with handling: micro management, but is completely outfaced and out of his depth with the major macro management issues. And that's possibly combined with a weak personality unable to handle conflict shying away from taking decisive positive action.
