SEXUAL ASSAULTS - FORMER SEMINARIANS?

WERE TWO IRISH EX-SEMINARIANS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED IN RECENT TIMES?

Was one of them admitted to hospital with a broken limb?

Is the other one currently receiving psychiatric care for PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Has an Irish bishop recently dismissed the man responsible for both assaults.

Yesterday I sent Eamon Martin the following email:

Dear Eamon,

I have received a report that two ex-seminarians of Xxxxxxxx were sexually assaulted by one of your "charges".

I am told that the name of the two assaulted were:

Xxxx Xxxxxx of Xxxxxx - who was allegedly treated for a limb fracture.

Xxxxx Xxxxx of Xxxxx who was and is being treated by a mental health team.

Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx

Have you been informed of these allegations?

Have the incidents been reported to the police?

This is a very serious matter and I hope you will not ignore this email.

Pat Buckley

Last evening I received an email from Eamon's safeguarding man, Aidan Gordan:

Dear Pat,

Your email of earlier today has been passed to me. I would like to advise you that if you are in possession of any information that a crime may been committed you should report the matter immediately to the PSNI or An Garda Siochana. You should also advise anyone who believes they have been the victim of a crime of their right to make a complaint to the PSNI or An Garda Siochana in order that the matter be investigated appropriately.

Yours Sincerely,
Aidan Gordon

No one can argue with Aidans "advice".

And I will contact the Garda and report the matters.

But has Amy not got responsibility in these matters too?

He obviously does not want to dialogue with me on the matter.

That's ok.

But he is the primate of Ireland and the archbishop of Armagh.

Some of the characters allegedly involved answer to him.

Where is the supposed new transparency on these matters?

THE FATHER GATES MAGHERAFELT PETITION

JOHN GATES - LEFT
Magherafelt parishioners have told the blog that there is a petition circulating in the parish asking Eamon Martin to move John Gates out of the parish.

Yesterday, several Magherafelt parishioners telephoned The Oratory asking how they can find the petition and sign it.

Perhaps the organisers of the petition could let our readers know about the petition and how those who wish to sign it can.

It appears that Father Gates is not very popular with a significant number of parishioners.

  2. The difficulty is that you wrote to the primate of all Ireland.

Instead send him the same letter in his capacity as Chairman of the Trustees of Maynooth. In that capacity he has certain duties in relation to governance and management. This includes his has legal responsibilities to seek assurances as to the correct functioning of the Trust and the safety of all people living, studying in and visiting the campus. He has a duty to ensure the performance of the Trust is audited and the board of Trustees given assurances.

Another option is to pass your concerns to St.Joseph's Young Priest Society; whom Amy will want to keep sweet.

Ultimately any rational person would have been more responsive upon hearing that a person was raped/sexually assaulted on their property.

  5. Pat, your morals would not be commendable to many young people or families. Stop putting yourself on a pedestal and playing God with people's lives. You interfere in Archbishop Martin's life in a bullying, harassing way. He is right to ignore you. If you have any relevant, verifiable information on any abuse, even a suspicion of it, you are mandated and obliged by law to bring that to the attention of the PSNI, The Gardai or TUSLA. Act responsibly yourself. Stop lecturing others.

  6. Father Gates is a Sly, Sleaket Priest. He is the most Ill mannered Priest Magherafelt have saw down through the years. Never punctual for Mass. He shoves Father Brannigan around like a puppy dog. He is the drama Queen of Magherafelt including bingo. Running around with MC Eniff. Talk about the Mrs Brown's boys. Good comedy for the pair to act on. Father Gates should be moved pronto.

  8. I signed this petition which was going around the Greenvale area last week. There seemed to be a lot of signatures on it given that feelings are running so high at present in the town about Fr Gates. I believe the petition will be circulated in the vicinity of the Churches this weekend and in the car parks. I'm sure there will be more opportunities to sign it.

  9. I believe the petition will not be presented to Eamon Martin this time because he has been as much use as a chocolate teapot in the past over this issue in Magherafelt. It will be hand delivered to the Congregation for Clergy in Rome during a trip there shortly by a few parishioners. The time for excuses and inaction are over.

The Parishioners are sick to the back teeth to get Fr.Gates removed. Why did archbishop Martin not show up for Confirmation in Magherafelt this year. Because of Fr.Gates. I must say that the Petitions are going around this town and the news reporters and Journalists will be at Mass this weekend in Magherafelt. So if Archbishop Martin is all what you say about him maybe he will examine his conscience and get this problem with Fr.Gates brought to an end and remove him. This Parish will be going to town to get this Fr.Gates removed from their Church. He's a total controlled Freak.

  11. + Martin of Armagh should not be dilatory in addressing the problems / personnel referred to above. To do so will be seen as a dereliction of duty in whatever of the many capacities he holds - Archbishop, Trustee etc. etc.

If people write to him about problems, it is only courteous, businesslike and proper to reply in some form, even just a letter acknowledging receipt and making the sender aware that he has noted what has been said. Just ignoring letters and communication is not only ignorant but ensures that the issue continues to rumble on and does not get addressed.

This is part of the problem with bishops and the Church hierarchy - they assume that they do not have to be answerable, and should not be questioned. How dare people have the temerity to question them, they think ! That may have been the case in the past, and we were all deferential and submissive and gave them the benefit of the doubt, and let them get away with it. But in this day and age bishops are beginning to find out that we do not necessarily give them the benefit of the doubt because of their lamentable and scandalous behaviour in the past, and now they are very answerable and will be brought to account, not just within the Church, but also by the State. This is beginning to happen in Ireland and most certainly is happening in the UK - note Archbishops being summonsed and required to appear before tribunals and to give evidence and to be questioned. Times have changed, and the likes of + Martin of Armagh needs to cop on pretty quick, otherwise he will find himself the subject of inquiry by the State authorities. Maybe she should give + Longley of Birmingham and + Nichols of Westminster a call and listen to their experiences and how they now realise that they are no longer immune from being under scrutiny for their actions. The same will come to you, dear + Martin of Armagh !

    1. Eamon Martin feels he is too important to reply to letters. I have never came across someone yet in the hierarchy like him who doesn't respond to a letter. EM is the reason why this Priest in Co. Derry is allowed to get away with his bad behaviour

  12. Magherafelt and Father Gates: There is a simple solution, dear parishioners - simply stop putting money on the plate. Both Father Gates and Archbishop Martin will sit up and take notice of that pretty quickly, within a few weeks. It is a sure way of getting their attention, getting them to listen to you, and moving on and out of pastoral ministry a man who evidently has huge personal and behavioural problems and should not be inflicted on a parish. Try it. It will work ! Money talks !

  14. @10.58 & 12.23. My family have stopped going to Mass because of this individual. We will return when he leaves. I know many other individuals and families who share our genuine concerns about him and who similarly have stopped attending Mass.

I accept and agree that not contributing to the weekly collection(s) may have the desired effect of prompting a response from Armagh, but that in itself would be an indictment of the corrupted thinking that permeates the hierarchy of our Church not that they would ever admit to a significant reduction in cashflow for taking action against this parish priest.

Fr. Gates should be removed simply on the basis of his bullying behaviour which has been detailed on this blog and in print media. The events are factual but remain uninvestigated. The Church is allowing this to fester and you have to question why.

  20. Yes, a Seminarian but now happily married with 3 children. I couldn't hack the celibacy thing but I'm glad I got out when I did. When I read about John Gates and others I feel vindicated. I'm sure John gave poor Sr Regis a nervous breakdown because he treated her appallingly. Some said at the time he hated women and particularly women who had a role in the Church. He wasn't alone but memories came flooding back after reading your great blog - the only way to stand up to bullies is confronting them. Your blog and the good people of that parish are to be commended and supported/saluted for taking such a brave stand.

  22. The advice you have received from the archbishop's safeguarding adviser is quite proper and I understand the difficulty sometimes about commenting on certain issues. But having read the testimony of Archbishop Longley of Birmingham last week and evidence given about the behaviour of Archbishop Nicholls (as he then was) when he was in charge of the Birmingham archdiocese, something seems to be missing from those in senior management positions in the Church. Now, given the negative stories which keep coming out, clear leadership and visibility is required and difficult decisions need to be made and made openly. Even Prime Minister May who fled the cameras during her last disastrous general election campaign, has taken ownership of the Brexit situation. Where are the bishops and the archbishops at present? Though I am sure they will have those who support them and have seen the good work that they do, as in any organisation, I am sure that there are plenty of those who work beneath them who feel incredibly disgruntled and wonder where they are.

  23. Bishop Pat, has Patsy McGarry been in touch with you today over the Magherafelt issue? I understand if you don't want to go into your sources. I Spoke to Patsy earlier about it. It's in relation to how this awful situation reflects on the message eminating from the recent World Meeting of Families and the Youth Synod in Rome. Both of course were attended by Archbishop Martin but the question is - is he paying mere lip service to it all in relation to this abusive priest? It's not looking good for Archbishop Martin continuing to turn a blind eye.

  25. The leadership of the RC Church is doing what the British Conservative Party is doing - that is fighting amongst themselves, while the real problem is left unaddressed.

The US bishops have been meeting this last week or so, and there are great divisions therein. Pope Francis has waded in and stopped them from implementing whatever recommendations they had come up with until such time as he has met with them and others. They are not happy with it; read Archbishop Cordileone's letter to his diocese about this:

    https://sfarchdiocese.org/documents/2018/11/Letterhead%20Archbishop%20Letter%20to%20Faithful%2011.15.2018.pdf

Cordileone is also continuing the tactic of finding someone to blame for the clerical sexual abuse scandal. Pope Francis has blamed it all on the Devil - so that's alright then, because we expect the Devil to do wicked things ! - and now Cordileone is beginning to blame it all on homosexuals in the Church and clergy, making a direct and causal link between homosexuality and child sexual abuse - so that absolves everyone else of blame, including the bishops, then ! See here in The Tablet, 3rd paragraph:

    https://www.thetablet.co.uk/news/11031/conservatives-in-ascendant-at-divided-us-bishops-plenary

The rats are really scurrying around for somewhere to hide and at the same time point the finger of blame at whomsoever they can find, be it the Devil or homosexuals. Take your pick ! What it does is say: "It wasn't us, Gov" ! But, the fact is that the leadership of the Church over many decades has presided over a clerical hierarchy and system of entitlement and exclusivity that has allowed a culture of no-blame and no accountability to exist, and for priests to think that they could do whatever they wanted because nobody was going to call them to account, and if they were ever found out they would be protected by their paternal and caring bishop ! The bishops were fundamental and instrumental in creating this culture and presiding over it. They have now to answer for it. And they know it, hence all the attempt to deflect the blame and responsibility by pointing the finger elsewhere. It is disgusting and low behaviour by those who are supposed to be role models and leaders in our Church. They should just role over and accept their part in what has gone on, clear out, and leave the innocent remnant to get on with things - and that means the laity.

    1. Cordileone's entry on Wikipedia contains the following allegations:

      Drunk driving offense
Shortly before his installation as archbishop on August 26, 2012, Cordileone was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol at a police checkpoint in San Diego. His mother and a visiting priest from Germany were with him in the car he was driving. The arresting officer said that Cordileone "was a driver that was obviously impaired but he was quite cordial and polite throughout. He was not a belligerent drunk at all." Cordileone spent the night in custody. In a statement, he apologized and asked forgiveness the next day. He had been scheduled to appear in court on a misdemeanour charge of driving under the influence. However, Cordileone pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving. He was subsequently given three years’ probation and ordered to pay a fine. He was also required to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim-impact panel and a three-month first conviction program through the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

    2. I hear the young German priest was quite a dish. No surprise there. Cordileone plays perfectly the self-denying homosexual who protests too much by being so orthodox, conservative and anti - gay.

  26. 16:54 wrote 'clear leadership and visibility is required'.
    Oh you are funny.
The hierarchy of the Catholic church will never display leadership or visibility unless it is forced on them.
