DERMO "20 MILLION" MARTIN |
ARCHBISHOP DIARMUID MARTIN HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE CHURCH WILL SPEND EURO 20 MILLION ON POPE FRANCIS' UPCOMING VISIT TO IRELAND!!!
He had this announcement at the same time as his mate Amy Martin of Armagh issued a Christmas message asking us all to look after the "less fortunate" at Christmas.
AMY "THE LESS FORTUNATE" MARTIN |
Can neither of these clericos see the massive contradiction, especially at Christmas, of announcing the spending of Euro 20 million on a papal visit of a few days?
How many houses for homeless families could be provided by Euro 20 million?
How many hostel beds for people living on the streets could be provided by Euro 20 million?
How many meals could Euro 20 million buy?
How many food banks could Euro 20 million build?
How many drug addicts could Euro 20 million detox and rehabilitate?
How much water could Euro 20 million provide in the Africa where children are dying daily from drinking polluted water?
How much medical help could Euro 20 million provide for people who are dropping dead daily from treatable diseases?
How much food could Euro 20 million buy for children and adults who are dying of hunger in gutters all over the world?
How many displaced people around the world could be helped by Euro 20 million?
Etc, etc, etc............................................
But NO!
Dermo and Amy want to spend that 20 million on a visit from the head of one of the most corrupt institutions in the world to a country that has long since seen that these particular emperors have no clothes.
Are they hoping that their 20 million will cause Irish people to rush back to Mass and confession in empty churches?
Are they hoping that the 20 million will cause young 18-year-old males to rush to Gaynooth to be fondled and bedded there?
Are they hoping that the Euro 20 million carnival will make people forget all about the Tuam babies?
Some hope!
Dermo and Amy - keep digging!
Ye's will soon be in Australia!
Oh! And when you get there, don't forget to give all our love to Georgie Pell!
But NO!

Such utter cynicism Pat, mixed with the usual ounces of sneering, contempt, disdain, jealousy, hatred. You surpass yoyrself in nastiness.
ReplyDeleteFull in the panting heart of Rome....
DeleteAnother opportunity for vile and offensive invective. The pattern is so predictable, and the comments that will be posted will be as tiresome. Why don't you attack the government for spending millions on the National Gallery while thousands of children are homeless? Or have a go at the arts council who have millions to lavish on 'luvvies' while others are in dire straits. The Catholic church and its agencies are the biggest provider of services to the poor and underprivileged on our Island. Crosscare in Dublin alone do tremendous work through their foodbanks, night shelters etc. So go piss on someone elses cabbage patch. If the church wishes to receive the Holy Father to Dublin, that's a matter for the church, and all the begrudders can go take a hike! You'll get a big surprise when they turn out in the hundreds of thousands to greet Pope Francis in the Park.
ReplyDeleteTry as you will Pat, the church of Jesus Christ which subsists in the Roman Catholic Church endures now and will endure unto the end of time. Long after the Oratory in Larne is in ruins and Buckley just a laughable memory - she will endure. Alleluia!
Long live the Who're of Babylon.
DeleteWho will clean up the used condoms after the visit? I believe The gay clubs and saunas will make a fortune from the visiting priests.
Delete00:55, the Irish Government does not claim to be the church of Christ, nor does the Arts Council. Neither claim to be followers of the poor Nazarene. But the Roman Catholic Church does.
DeleteThese papal extravaganzas are reminiscient of those that so appalled Martin Luther when he visited Rome shortly before posting his 95 propositions. And, of course, the rest really is history. And how!
Magna, 12.28. All your posts reveal you as a sour, lonely, drunken sod with little time for anyone in your life. You exude misery in bucketloads but it stinks like farm yard manure. Out of the mouths of learned men.....comes not wisdom or beauty but crap!!
DeleteIf only it was still the Catholic church!
Delete10.49, The Committee of World Meeting of Families is looking for volunteers. Perhaps you might volunteer to pick up all dirt...seems you'd be a good bin man!
Delete13:20, I spew 'crap'? CRAP?! ('Twould explain why I'm called the 'Halitosis Kid'.)
DeleteYou won't be contributing a bean so butt out!
ReplyDeleteSpending 20 million on a pope's visit sounds like a desperate measure. We should be praying for people who see no other option than a last big glory show. Better to cancel the pope's visit and spend the money on the defence of the child in the womb. A recent scripture reading at mass said, Elizabeth... 'conceived a son'. Why not fight the real fight and forget the PR exercise that will not work.
ReplyDeleteYou don't send for the doctor when all is well.
DeletePope Francis is extremely well informed. He knows what's what.
In the light of that informed knowledge his decision was to come here.
It was tried before with JP2 in 1979 and the Eucharistic Congress -- futile events.
DeleteRenew the church's life at the basis, I'd say.
€20 million before security costs.
ReplyDeleteObama and the Queen cost 36 MILLION. Did you see how much the Chinese state visit cost us? these are moments of National events. Recent survey revealed 62% of people polled would go to a papal mass.
DeleteWelcome to Ireland your holiness, your people await you in the streets.
Yes.. and that will turn out to be a conservative estimate.
DeleteA Papal visit boosts morale, boosts the local economy especially in and around any venue he chooses. If I weren't so sleepy at the moment I would write out a full list.. petrol, hotels, restaurants,..newspapers..
DeleteHoping for a miracle that's not going to happen. The public have lost faith in the institution 20 million ain't going to buy it back.
ReplyDeleteAgeing clergy, plunging mass attendances, disillusioned public, infighting, pedophile priests, dead babies, no problem a quick visit from Francis will sort everything I wonder what this is going to cost the taxpayer?
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a right charmer, @ 8.22
DeleteSad reality I'm afraid.
DeleteHa ha,! He's right charmer alright.. Sounds like a graduate of the "Bah Humbug" academy with optimism oozing from his earholes!
DeleteHe is indeed naming sad reality.
DeleteI suspect that some of this money will come from the Irish Government, but it is too afraid to admit as much.
ReplyDeleteI'm maybe wrong but if it's counted as a state visit then the government will have to pay . I think England had to pay a fortune when old benny paid a visit
DeleteHowever, UK was rewarded with the O'Brien scandal shortly afterwards. Similarly, the spectacular fall from grace of the Bishop of Galway followed JPII visit to ROI. Who will be next? I wonder.
DeleteMaggie at 9.33. So what? Why go into a stupor over Pope Francis? He'll draw thousands to see and hear him while you'll be in your miserable cave - alone and sad....
DeleteHe'll draw thousands -- like Madonna or whoever -- and will have no impact.
DeleteChurch needs to sit down and talk and decide how to renew itself.
Isn't it amazing how Pat manages to completely undermine all efforts by the Catholic Church. Wide sweeping judgments, constant negativity, downing as many clerics as possible, inferring sinister motivations behind their efforts at making amends, finding fault and delighting in the sins of others. Now you aim your arrows at World Meeting of Families. And before you condemn any plans or financial outlay, you should acknowledge the incredible, charitable godd works and outreach programmes which every Diocese has, enabling thousands to have some dignified living. Just do your homework Pat and please, give us a break from your faux indignation and moral arrogance. Easy to sit on the fence and grumble, much more difficult to attempt to act like Christ. What marvellous legacy have you apart from yiur baggage from the past?
ReplyDeleteWould Christ spend 20 million on a religious carnival?
DeleteCobtinue your cynicism Pat. It's one of your gifts. Pity you can't be as quick with your mercy or Christmas spirit. Long after you have decomposed in the soil and the Oratory in ruins, the Church will continue. We do not lose hope in the words of Jesus - I am with you always, yes, to the end of time. You are a pitiabl begrudger, full of nastiness. God bless Pope Feancis, Archbishop D Martin and Archbishop Martin (Dublin and Armagh) and God bless our many good priests. Thank God for their faithful ministry to us. Tell us Pat about the magnificent crowds that throng to your shrine....
DeleteWho knows what Christ would do? He once rebuked a begrudger with the reminder, "You have the poor with you always, and you can be kind to them whenever you want."
DeleteEntertaining visitors involves expense but it is surely bad form to refer to it or, worse still, regard it as an investment.
11:16
Delete"If a million people follow you, ask yourself where you have gone wrong".
Mahatma Ghandi.
11:23, I think we both know that Christ would not be happy at spending such a vast sum on 'Peter'.
DeleteThat Scripture passage you mentioned: your interpretation of it is inaccurate. It was Judas Iscariot who asked the question, and, as Scripture makes clear, Judas wasn't in the least interested in helping anyone financially (much less the poor), since he would steal from the donations received by Christ and the Apostles. (Iscariot, for reasons known only to Jesus, had charge of the moneybox.)
11:23 to 12:38
DeleteYears ago I heard a priest say that whenever he spent money on himself - a new pair of shoes, a train journey, a meal in a restaurant - he felt better after he had given an equivalent amount to Trocaire or SVP. A silly idea, I thought, but really if everyone did the same it would make quite a difference.
I referred to Mark 14:3-9 and offered no interpretation. It speaks for itself.
The 20 million is the overall cost of hosting the world meeting of families. Before discussing how much is being spent on 'Peter' we would need to ask how much would be saved if Francis weren't coming.
Magna - why don't you know why Jesus gave charge of the moneybox to him? You usually know his every thought so much better than anyone else.
DeleteNice joke, poster 15.18!
DeleteTbank you, 16:24. I may quip, but if this cosy online community loses its sole infallible link to Jesus, we may have to resort to academics and commentaries for theology, history and Biblical commentary. I would feel lost in their cold, rational world with nary an expletive or insult in sight. Goodness, I may even have to advertise on Grindr for someone to pour scorn on my every thought!
Delete15:18
16:24, yes indeed. Even I laughed at that one.
Delete17:33, 😂
DeleteWhat would you know about scriptural interpretation, 12.38?
DeleteYou wont need to worry about Gandhi’s comment, Pat.
DeletePat. While I don’t agree with lots of your blogs I actually think you have hit this spot on. I hope your points are taken up by the media and this whole expensive unwanted extravaganza is given the ridicule it deserves
ReplyDelete20m sounds disgraceful. I often wonder why money is found for compensation despite the fact there was no funds available to do a job properly in the first place. Use existing facilities for Francis. No need to build extravagant facilities. Let the Vatican shell out a few quid and let the church use some of its riches for social good.
ReplyDeleteSean at 10.05: your comments are inane andcstupid..and badly written. You no longer share the Catholic way of life and you should keep your silly comments to yourself. Also sincevyou don't financially support the Church, why are you in a rage. You should also inform yourself about the goid, charitable and outreach activities of the Catholic Church. They abound. And you know that.
Delete17.43 You no... Inane... Dear o dear. Wise up and grow up or Santa may not come Merry Christmas
DeleteI imagine the newspapers will be covering the George Pell trial during the run up to the proposed visit in August. Also, how many Irish priests will abandon their priestly ministries before then due to strange goings-on? A how many seminarians will be fondled and bedded? I wonder.
ReplyDeleteHad ye a few in ye when ye wrote that, Pat? Scurrilous and nasty.
ReplyDeleteNo. Written with my breakfast tea and toast.
DeleteI find my genius is at its best in the mornings :-)
Pat, that blog appeared after Midnight. Are ye sure ye weren’t on the Christmas cheer?
DeleteI generally write the Blog in the morning and publish at midnight.
DeleteTomorrow's blog was finished at noon today.
Sorry to disappoint you :-)
17.17: If you were a busy priest in a busy parish, you'd have little time for your vengeful, hate filled pursuits. You do not have a proper ministry - no parish, no large congregation, no schools, no administration...no real pastoral responsibilities. What an easy, lazy life!!
DeletePaddy, I could think of may names that would apply to you but 'genius' is not among them. The post at 00:55 hits the target. Read it gain and answer the arguments. What bile you have on the doorstep of the Saviours Birth. Grow up Pat.
ReplyDeleteDo I not even have a "genius" for annoying the Taliban Catholics?
DeleteNo Pat, you are not a genuis at all. In fact, you are so immature and stupid that my 6 year old niece would shame you with her intelligence and wisdom and inner beauty of spirit. I'll pray that Christ's kindness will find a place in your life this Christmas because you most certainly do not emulate anything of his Spirit. Why the insults, demeaning of others, the sheer bitchiness of your caricaturing of good men? Why? And then you stand in a pulpit to preach love!!! Hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a pulpit.
DeleteTruth is love!
Remember all the little nieces that were hurt by bishop, priests and religious.
Do you take your blinkers off in the bath :-)
You don't have a pulpit.
DeleteI don't have a bath.
I know. I can smell you from here :-)
DeleteHah hah Razor-sharp riposte.😅
DeleteI'm heading your way so make sure hot water is switched on, oh charitable one who helps the homeless..
DeleteHa ha... Game, set and match!
DeleteHopefully, after Christmas, +Pat will do an end of year review of all the scandals and strange goings-on during 2017, including a where are they now assessment and/or let his faithful readers vote for their favourite scandal of the year.
ReplyDeleteThat poster must miss receiving his end of the year school report.
DeleteSeems the great Pat is just a windbag afraid to publish the truth! Quelle surprise!
ReplyDeleteAnother expense is the lengthy prison term (his sentence is 18 years) handed to Andrew Soper former abbot of Ealing. I think the prison service should hand the bill straight to Ealing Abbey personally.
ReplyDeleteThe haters out in force today Pat!! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDelete18.19: Not haters. Just those of us who feel the need to point out to Pat his deep hypocricies and contradictions; the need to convince him that there are many good priests and that he doesn't always get it right about people and issues. His own life is not exactly brightening the skies over Larne! He should learn from the humility of the Christ whose memory he supposedly keeps Sacred. There's nothing sacred in encouraging vengance or hatred against others. Nothing sacred about his vicious blog, nothing sacred in his words but much unnecessary nastiness and lack of charity - his words, judgments and arrogance are anathema to the gospel of Christ.
ReplyDeleteHow much have these Papal junkets, started by Paul VI, cost? The Vatican pays nowt, it's the host nation and or the relevant national episcopal conference which picks up the tab. What was the point of the recent expensive visit by Francis to Burma as was. He travels by chartered Alitalia jet but in the host country travels about in a Ford Fiesta or equivalent hatchback. Work that one out, lol.
ReplyDeleteBegrudgers will always be with us. You’re proof positive. Francis is the most popular pope in history and one of the most recognised people on the planet whose goodness is there for all to see. He carries enormous influence for good.
DeleteA similar question is how many billions globally have been spent "re-ordering" churches? It's typically meant destroying that which was built by the pennies of the poor and replacing it with the now very dated fashions of the 1960s and 1970s.
ReplyDelete21.21
DeleteYes you’d prefer to treat them as museum pieces.
I'm obliged to ask you Anon @ 21:21 just what you are referring to, and to clarify your point.
DeleteAs it stands I just don't have a clue.
Could you please clarify your perspective?
MMM
20,000,000 pounds!
ReplyDeleteA disgusting waste of money;
