"Hi Bishop Pat
I asked earlier on the blog if I could tell you about my close relative who was let down badly by two priests and a nun.
Put briefly my close relative had serious mental health problems and was diagnosed with personality disorder. She took her own life after several attempts at the age of 24. She was receiving separate and contradictory counseling from Sr Xxx Xxxxx, ex-priest Xx Xxxxxxx Xxxxx, and religious order priest Xx Xxxxx Xxxxx
They all strung her along when she should have had qualified medical care. The night before she killed herself she went out to Xxxxxxx Monastery and told Fr Xxx of her intention to do so. It wasn't in confession. He didn't alert her parents, doctor or 999 as the Samaritans, doctors and trained counselors do. She died in the early hours of the next day, about five hours after meeting him. As far as we know he was the last person she spoke to.
My mother found out all this after the death. He refused to give any more details except saying she told him she was going to commit suicide and it was not during confession.
Thanks for letting me say this. Privately I add that my devout mother never forgave Fr Xxx who was off-hand and defensive. Her health declined and she died six months later, followed by my father a year later. I was in I Divine in Maynooth and Niall Ahern threw me out within two weeks of my father's death, saying I was psychologically immature".
Dear Xxxxxx,
I am so sorry to hear of the death of your relative and of how it affected your poor mother, dad, (RIP) and family.
I am also so sorry that Maynooth was so cruel to you at such a vulnerable time in your life.
I have heard similar stories before of bishops, priests and seminaries being cruel to people at a sad time in their lives.
Any person who is cruel to anyone at such a time is certainly no friend of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
COUNSELING:
I think that we priests and nuns should be very, very careful when we are advising and counseling people with mental illnesses.
Most of us are not trained psychologists or therapists and we must be keenly aware of our limitations.
People with mental illnesses absolutely need the professional help of psychiatrists, therapists, and psychiatric nurses.
The very best thing we can do in such cases is to IMMEDIATELY involve the professionals.
On several occasions, even in recent months, I have had clearly ill people arrive at my door in great mental distress.
I bring them in, listen to them, make them a tea or coffee and get their permission to ring an ambulance.
If I did anything else I would regard myself as totally irresponsible and be acting outside my competence.
Trendy priests and nuns who have attended a few counseling courses in the USA can be dangerous.
We have seen the fruits of Dr. Prior and Dr. Collins in Maynooth!!!
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
I hope that being able to tell your story on here, albeit anonymously, will have helped you with the burden you are carrying?
---------------------------------------------
MAYNOOTH - WHAT IS DERMO AT?
ONE YEAR YOU ARE TAKING ALL YOUR SEMINARIANS OUT OF MAYNOOTH BECAUSE OF "STRANGE GOINGS ON" AND THE NEXT YEAR YOU BACK IN MAYNOOTH ORDAINING DEACONS FORMED IN THE PLACE!
Diarmuid, in taking his seminarians out of Maynooth was clearly signalling that he had no confidence in Maynooth Formation or Maynooth Formation staff.
And then on Saturday, at the request of the unsuitable formation, he goes back to Maynooth to ordain deacons that have been found worthy of ordination by the incompetent staff!
ORDER OF SERVICE FROM SATURDAY - COURTESY OF SEMINARIAN |
Why would a bishop, who had come to the conclusion that Maynooth formation was seriously dysfunctional go and ordain men produced by that dysfunctional system?
People often say that Diarmuid runs with the hares and the hounds.
Are these diaconate ordinations a clear example of Diramuid's hunting tactics?
Are we dealing with a scheming politician here?
And why is Fanny Mullaney inviting a prelate to celebrate Maynooth ordinations when the very same prelate has signalled that Mullaney & Co are, at least dysfunctional, if not downright unsuitable formators?
Maybe Fanny has not given up all hope of eventually wearing a mitre and therefore needs to keep Dermo sweet?
ALSO - THERE WERE JUST TWO DEACONS ORDAINED IN MAYNOOTH THIS YEAR FOR THE 26 IRISH DIOCESES.
THE OTHER TWO WERE DIVINE WORD MISSIONARIES!
If Dermo was acting in good faith he would not be able to ordain these men. Sadly, like many bishops, he cannot resist the urge to ordain when given the opportunity. Ordaining men is like a drug for bishops, with some liking the opportunity to ordain on each calendar year. I guess this was Dermo's 2018 opportunity
ReplyDeleteReally! I thought the urge for performing ordinations/consecrations was only an Old Catholic phenomenon.
DeleteIt was told of an OC bishop near Oxford that men were afraid to shake hands lest he grab them and ordain them.
Would it were so simple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0Fi32LbXHA&feature=share
ReplyDeleteThe story of any person's suicide is always a tragedy and sometimes the circumstances are multifaceted. Often we look for answers but find none. Then we begin to look for indicators and we try to piece together our conclusions. In this we may blame certain people and become angry. It's rarely one particular thing that may bring a person to the moment of ending their lives. Sadly, there are many self made counsellors at every street corner ready to take advantage of people's vulnerability. I had the experience myself of being manipulated into many unnecessary sessions by a counsellor but I discarded him quickly, not before challenging his peculiar techniques. I eventually found a wonderful counsellor. When anyone comes to me seeking professional advice beyond my competency I have a list of recognised and professional counsellors/therapists. It would be wrong to use this story as given to have a go at the Church on the basis that a priest or religious may have been somewhat careless in responding professionally. There are many quacks, self trained, who play recklessly with people's minds. Even the responses and reactions given here to some issues can be dangerous and careless, more judgment than understanding and mercy. I never see the fun in tearing people apart to ridicule, denigrate or humiliate them To me that's a horrible abuse. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing - how very true Pat! It' a pity you don't follow the wisdom of these words!
ReplyDeleteRuns with the hare and hunts with the hounds
ReplyDeleteDealing with sensative areas can be dangerous. Confession can be a place of healing but also great hurt. On a simple note my mother as a young girl was refused absolution for eating a sausage on a Friday. She went to another priest who sorted it. Can't remember if she went to confession again. How priests apprroach confession and "counseling" type encounters says allot about who they are as persons...do no harm
ReplyDeleteIt is because Maynooth is in the archdiocese of Dublin and he insists on doing any ordinations within the diocese, even the religious orders, unless he is out of the country.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that there are just two deacons for the Irish dioceses.
ReplyDeleteWhy the concern? These spongers-in-the-making aren't even remotely necessary; only one thing is...Jesus.
DeleteAnd he's NEVER in short supply.
Sounds like Fr Fanny has been vindicated, +Pat, following the return of ++DM’s seminarians. As for the four new deacons, you will have to observe them carefully to make sure they are progressing as you want them to.
ReplyDelete09 14: It's none of Pat's business to be sneaking around observing the new Deacons. It's a perversion of justice, a crossing of boundaries and an ignorant suggestion. Of course, we look to Larne and discover there isn't even a spark of fire lighting the Oratory let alone the hills and valleys. The so called renewal hasn't even happened in the Oratory! It's all about Pat, Pat, Pat.....
DeleteThe first stage of RENOVATION is DEMOLITION.
DeleteThe rumour is Pat a deal was made between you and Fanny. Fanny paid you out.
ReplyDeleteAre Dublin's seminarian(s) back in Maynooth? It's a poor show if a bishop lacks confidence in a seminary located within his diocese and of which he is a trustee. Though I never understood why Dublin had its own seminary, Clonliffe, when Maynooth was in the archdiocese.
ReplyDeleteAny update on Fr Mullaney's summer vacation plans.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about Maynooth and Mullaney. Same old gossip and rumour. This suits the blog because there isn't anything elese interesting to talk about. Where Mullaney goes on holiday, come on, do we have to read such shite?
ReplyDeleteIn fact I think that the places Fanny goes might make for very interesting and enlightening reading.
Deletehow sad you want to know where someone goes on holiday. Blog slowly going down hill.
DeleteFr Mullaney has a villa in Cap d'Agde in the South of France. It's a Naturalist resort for all ages. Mullaney usually goes twice a year. A clothing optional resort.
ReplyDelete@ 11.34
ReplyDeleteDon't you mean that it's a naturist resort
11.34 Just to correct your ignorance, I think you will find it’s naturism not a naturalist resort - totally different things. Then what else can you expect from this blog only ignorance. By the way, clothing is optional and naturism is optional too - both are neither a crime so I fail to see your point,
ReplyDeleteNakedness is not obligatory then?
DeleteA Maynooth President has a flat in a French naturist resort?
DeleteJeez! The mere thought of thon blubbery backside jelly-wobbling, gyrating, and generally flailing about as he plods around is a vision of Hell's nether regions.
DeleteGod forbid he should stoop to pick up a stray franc!😅 (Of course, where would he put it?)
@11.43 I have to agree that the blog has taken a nose dive lately. We have heard nothing more about Cloyne, about Maghera, about the two Sems in Rome, about Puck, about some Sems in Maynooth and about the diocese of Meath. All these issues taken up on the blog and then suddenly forgotten about.
ReplyDeleteNone of these issues have been, or will be forgotten about.
DeleteWe write about things as they develop and happen.
Watch this space............
There is a big difference between obligatory and optional - get a dictionary if it helps you. You are just mischief making as usual.
ReplyDeleteI was once asked to celebrate a naturist wedding where I too would have to be naked.
DeleteI declined :-)
I’m surprised you didn’t charge them £1000 to do it as you usually do at weddings.
DeleteMy charge is £300.
DeleteReduced/Refused in cases of genuine need.
If you want genuine pastoral care phone +Pat. Free of charge and excellent and I say that as a Trad woman Catholic.
DeleteI think you were wise to refuse the offer to strip off añd do the naturist wedding, Pat...
DeleteUlster has suffered enough!
:-)
DeleteWhy charge £300. Do you not listen to what Pope Francis has to say when he says Priests should not put a fee on their services, and Priests should take what they are given.
DeleteI do not have the luxury of being supported by a parish.
DeleteI have to make my own living.
Francis is having a €20 million jolly in abortion-voting Dublin this August. The odd stole fee is the least of his worries.
DeleteDear Pat. The ex-seminarian with the chip on his shoulder about being thrown out of maynooth may indeed have been psychologically immature when he was asked to leave. However I can't comment as I do not have the full facts. I believe however that he is currently delusional, and may have been so for many years. He states that the Samaritans would contact the police. This is a lie, and fake news as as such called into question his entire belief structure. Please reach out to him and try and help him as he has been living with a delusion for a along long time.
ReplyDelete.................RE:
do the samaritans call the police if you are suicidal?
if someone were to phone the samaritans and tell them they were about to jump off a cliff would they phone the police and trace the number?
No never - totally confidential. They don't even know your phone number the computer scrambles it so they can't call you unless you give them a number - if you run out of credit for example. Even if you tell them the cliff they won't do anything it's part of their core belief that everyone has a right to make their own choices but if they want some form of human touch as they go they will provide that for you. Of course they will ask if you are sure, being dead for ever isn't what you may need, escape from pain is maybe what you need. They will ask why you are doing this, talk about the problem.
Source(s):
I'm a Samaritan!
Surely we cannot call him delusional without meeting him?
DeleteI'm the ex-semimarian and the Samaritaritans called round to my parents house when my sister phoned them in a suicidal state. They worked out her number by listening to the ring tones on the old-fashioned phones.
DeleteDon't believe me if you want.
The Bishop of Xxx presided in choir at my xx funeral because I was a seminarian but he didn't attend the funerals of my parents.
I'm ignoring the comment about being immature. After my experiences I doubt it.
Nial Ahern used to put on a record of "Bring Flowers of the Fairest" at seminary gatherings and burst into tears and talk about his "Mammy". He was the Middle Dean. Was that mature?
To this day my Magna wells up when I put on my old 78 of Full in the Panting Heart of Rome
Delete14:27, so sorry to hear of your poor sister's death.
DeleteSorry, too, for the grief all of you must have suffered over this.
Well Magna Soak @ 15.12 you have just awoken hurrah. As you don’t live in Magherafelt I wouldn’t worry your fat head about it.
Delete15:48, I presume you were responding to my comment about Fr Gates, at 15:30. At least, I hope you were.
Delete15.48 Don’t engage with the drunken Troll. He’s on again today looking for a fight but sadly not getting one . He will soon get bored ha ha ha.
DeleteI love it when "Full in the Panting Heart of Rome" mentions the Vatican's magestic halls.
DeleteBack to magherafelt i see fr gates with the help of saint joe or (laurel @ hardy) as we prefer to call them are officiating at the rock mass.We just hope they are only let out for the day
ReplyDeleteFr. Gates is still PP of Magherafelt
Delete15:23, not if the people don't accept him as such.
DeleteI think you are mixing up the True Church with the Congregationalists and the Presbyterians, dear.
DeleteWe read all about Dermo and the Ordinations yesterday on the blog posts. Don't see the reason for reading it again today. He is the Archbishop of Dublin after all. No surprise there
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will soon be rid of him @ the pp after gates in his case stands for parish prick.Come on mfelt all together parish prick out
ReplyDeleteIf he comes back I will stop going to Mass for the first time in my life. A. 80s.
ReplyDeleteDon't be such a grandstander, @ 15.38!!
DeleteAttending Mass should not depend on silly ephemeral matters Iike that . Don't be such an idiot .
@15.31 I don’t think you are doing your cause any good using offensive language like that.
ReplyDeleteThats nothing compared to the language gates used against the people of the parish in particular one elderly lady @ he knows all about it cursing @ swearing unbelievable coming from a man of god
ReplyDelete'man of god'? This, I'm afraid, is a 'clericalism', and forms part of the mythology of Roman Catholic priesthood. It's as credible as the clericalist phrase, 'ontological transformation'. So if you recognise all of this as the self-serving nonsense it actually is, then the kind of language you mentioned is perfectly believable from a so-called 'man of god'.
Delete@16.07 You are only one of a group of 3 or 4 who keep posting about Fr. Gates. It’s a shame the vast majority of the parish disagree with you. Many know your identity because Fr. Gates got rid of you didn’t he? We can tell you are the one who refers to him as Hitler.
Delete@15.31 & @17.10, If you read through all the other posts there is not a group of 3 or 4 who made comments about Fr.Gates. The vast Majority of this parish wants this ignorant, arrogant bad mannered Fr.Gates removed from this parish. If you are stupid enough not to pick up on all the posts on the blog about the hurt, an pain, an shame, Fr.Gates has done to a numerous amount of people of this parish. You are a complete joke! acting on judgement of this parish who wants Fr.Gates back. There is enough complaints of Fr.Gates. So it's time Fr.Gates wakes up an smells the coffee. I don't know how he can face the people of Magherafelt. Its an absoulte shame, If he returns the parish will certainly be well down in numbers. They might call Bishop Buckley to shift him. By the way I am not posting on behalf of 16.07. It's because you would need to open your eyes an read the rest of the blog an see numerous complaints. So don't post back because you stuck your nose in were it wasn't wanted.
DeleteMaynooth got rid of a very good Clogher student who should have been ordained a deacon yesterday. He has since been snapped up by a US diocese - Trenton.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that. Clogher's loss, Trenton's gain.
DeleteI see from the diocese of Trenton website that the bishop has posted his priest secretary/MC to a parish and not replaced him with a priest. Good for him!
DeleteAfter reading 5.10 there is only one conclusion you can come to the truth hurts. The way u put that statement he got rid of him whoever that was.You r talking as if gates is a gangster @ he disposes of all his enemies
ReplyDelete18.10 You are the ONLY one posting about Fr. Gates since yesterday. It's easy to work it out because you keep using texting language in your posts. Just do us all a favour on here and get lost because we are sick listening about Magherafelt. You clearly have a personal vandetta and grudge against Fr. Gates, it's time now to get over it and find yourself a new parish.
ReplyDeleteI think its time gates got himself a new parish only thing is no one wants him l wonder why
ReplyDelete19.12 I am also fed up listening about this parish of Magherafelt. There seems to be a few people obsessed with it. The rest of us have to continually endure it and you almost feel sorry for this Fr. Gates if these are the few moaners he has to put up with.
ReplyDelete19.12. Have you a sore ear while you are fed up "Listening" about the parish of Magherafelt. Maybe your ears would burn more if this Fr.Gates got a word or two in them. The same way he had done to parishioners of our parish. If you want to moan stick a bit of cotton wool in your ears you won't have to ""LISTEN"" love,You won't have to continually endure it or be a moaner on this post.
ReplyDeletetwo questions to the person who are writing about at the start. 1. How do you know what was said to the preist/nun who you claim did nothing about what the friend did. 2. As you seem to know what was said and not done, what did you do to help that friend, as it must be reported to you between what was happened with the Preist/Nun and your friend taking their life.
ReplyDeleteCould we have a story here that Pat has made up to knock the Catholic Church and the Priest/Nuns that serve it, the majority of whom do an excellent job, but Pat seems to take pride in putting bad eggs as well as good eggs in the one basket and blasting both good and bad.
It's not made up. The priest gave evidence at the inquest and that's how we found out. The coroner was extremely critical of him.
DeleteMullaney needs to clarify his position as President and Priest. The Villa in Cap d'Agde is the story of a double lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteWhat crime has been committed exactly?
DeleteMullaney must be well paid if he can afford a villa in France. Presidents of Maynooth are paid handsomely. Ledwith had his own plane.
DeleteLol did Paul Prior visit fanny mullaney in the nude resort.
ReplyDeletePat is the Villa story about Fr Mullaney true.
ReplyDeleteI tried several different and local Priests this evening because I am absolutely dying with anxiety and stress driven depression therefore needed to talk with someone.
ReplyDeleteNot one man available in my own parish or surrounding ones, several weren't in, one was going to a meeting and is booked solid all week and this day above all days I so needed to speak with someone but in the end got speaking to or with noone.
Nor seemingly a caring reply on this blog.
ReplyDeleteBishop Pat
ReplyDeleteIf the Roman Catholic Hierarchy in Ireland are serious about conducting a semainary then they need to surrender control to people who actually know what they are doing.
Suggestions;
1- Spirtual and Academic formation- The Sulpicians
2- Pastoral. Psychological. Sexual. Formation and Development- The Servants of the Paraclete.
Clearly matters cannot continue in the current format.
I suspect Archbiship Martin of Dublin loeathes being the Ordinary there. How he wishes he could have stayed on in New York as the Vatican Permanent Observer. Now his remit is to clear up the decades old mess in the Archdiocese. Not an attractive idea ofr a man who had such ambition.
No Cardinal's hat either-Given the trajectory of Pope Francis' consistories it may well be Bishop Willie Walsh who gets the honour
