WELL, I WAS NOT INVITED TO THE ROYAL WEDDING IN LONDON YESTERDAY = BUT HAD MY OWN LOVELY WEDDING ON THE FERMANAGH LAKES.
The wedding was of two young men who have been a loving couple for seven years and who sealed their love before God in the open air yesterday.
I was assisted at the Wedding Mass by a fellow priest and by two religious sisters.
The priest concelebrated and the two sisters helped give out Holy Communion to the near 200 congregation.
We had wonderful live music and the readings were done by the congregation in both English and Irish.
There were people at the Wedding Mass from all over Ireland, the UK and the rest of the world.
Come came from as far as the United States and New Zealand.
The above slow lament was paid in memory of all the deceased relations of the couple and all present.
GAY WEDDINGS / BLESSINGS:
In its history, the Catholic Church used to celebrate same-sex blessings between two men and two women.
Thankfully nowadays same-sex marriages are legal in many countries.
Hopefully, they will soon be legal in Northern Ireland.
In the Scriptures, we are told: "WHEREVER THERE IS LOVE - THERE IS GOD".
Everyone present yesterday felt the love of God with us all - and with the young couple.
MORE BAD NEWS FOR DROMORE.
Bishop Pat,
I heard that this evening , Canon Brown who is administrator in Newry Cathedral, addressed the congregation to say that the bishop has informed him of a historical allegation against him and that he is standing down with immediate effect.
Canon Brown was also the principal of St Colman’s College for a period of time.

TOMORROW - BACK TO MAGHERAFELT
You celebrated a wedding Pat not a marriage. I am very pleased for the said couple I hope the guys are very happy and wish them well for the future, but it's a wedding. A marriage is only recognized in both the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church, between one man and one woman.Today you went through a process of blessing something, but it's not sacramental, not even licit or valid. They are civil partners that have got dressed up and took part in a 'form' with not the right 'matter' in the eyes of the Church.
ReplyDeleteI wish them well in their new life together as civil husband and husband. Not rejected by the Church, as the 'matter' 'form' and 'consumation' goes against the moral teachings of the Church.
Look at the title of the blog - Gay Wedding.
DeleteI don't agree with you about sacramentality.
EVERY outward expression of love is a "sign" or "sacrament" of the love of God.
Sacramentality is not confined to the Seven Sacraments.
The Anglicans only have two sacraments, baptism and Eucharist.
Of the two Anglican "sacraments" only baptism is valid.
DeleteSays who?
DeleteThe Church, the Mater et Magistra, as John XXIII called her.
DeleteIndeed 9.46. God is so powerless he is bound by human rules with regard to where the Holy Spirit may manifest itself.
Delete20:11, 'Magistra'? Are these the people who, for centuries, taught that the souls of unbaptised children and adults ended up in Hell? And for centuries after, that (okay, then) maybe not Hell, but certainly Heaven? In the state of Limbo?
DeleteYes, Holy Mother Church has been a reliable teacher of God's will.
'Mater et Magistra'? I have another name for this highly fallible institution.😆
Bishop Pat
ReplyDeleteI was asked this question by a Roman Catholic friend of mine, is there any mechanism where someone can renounce their membership of the Roman Catholic Church.
I understand that the Vatican in 2009 eliminated all processes of defection from their church. A nice clever way to try and hang on to their numbers at all costs.
If someone wanted to leave the Roman Catholic Church, there is no official process anymore?
I personally don't see any point in this, but my friend asked. He has had enough being a member of the church, which he described to me as a church he did not ask to join, was forced to by his parents when he was young, and is utterly disgusted by it, and wants to have no part of it anymore. He considers himself Catholic, not Roman Catholic.
This is not about just being upset at the revolting nature of the terrible scandals the Roman church has. It is also about doctrine and beliefs for him.
I would like your insight to this. Thank you, and God Bless, from a believer in a creator God in Derry City.
Recently a Catholic from Armagh diocese asked Eamon Martin how he could defect from the RC Church.
DeleteEM got him to write a letter to that effect and his defection was noted in the appropriate baptism register.
Would that be James McConnell by any chance? If so, GOOD RIDDANCE!
DeleteAll pictures and copy of the blog sent to the Papal Nuncio. Can we have the names of the other Priest and the two nuns so their names can be forwarded also. I urge others to write to the Nuncio on this grave matter.
ReplyDeleteThe said Nuncio man has no jurisdiction over me.
DeleteSend him all you want :-)
Why would the Nuncio be notified of this ? That’s like telling the Archbishop of Canterbury about the altar sex act in cork ?
Delete08:55
DeleteSome traits of the gay Irish man living in Scotland - especially the recourse to a nuncio and irregular capitalisation and the curiosity into sexual lives of others - thoughhe admits to getting enough himself.
If People are annoyed then email the Vatican
Deletevatio26@relstat-segsat.va
mark it for attention of Cardinal Robert Sarah
The Vatican has no jurisdiction over me.
DeleteYou might as well write to the DOE :-)
The Pope is the Vicar of Christ and keeper of the Keys and as such he has jurisdiction over everyone.
DeletePity he didn't exercise his jurisdiction over all the paedophile priests.
Delete11.09 Sorry to disappoint you but I was not on the blog at 8.55, AT 8.55 it is fantastic that you keep looking for me. lol
DeleteI know + Pat has nothing to do with the RC Church he has his own so the Papal Nuncio or any of Irelands Bishops have nothing to do with + Pat or his team.
8.55 The scribes and pharisees ride again.
ReplyDeleteSean, they never went away, you know.
DeleteLeaving RC Church or other denomination? I think one just walks. Most church law is not civilly binding except marriage etc. If one joines another denomination their rules take over. If one chooses not to be involved in church life goes on. Of course one could write to a Bishop to make a point. What the Bishop does with it is another days work
DeleteSean, that simple and sensible method would be of no use to an attention-seeker such as James McConnell.
Delete11.18: Sean, you are just so boring and your comments always about yourself. Is your Anglican faith that unexciting that you depend on this blog for fame?
Delete15.13. Bless your little cotton socks. How is that comment spacifically about me. If I'm boring you cheer up. It's not my problem. Please explain about fame without being anonymous. You seem to me to be discriminating against anglicans.
DeleteCongratulations Bishop Pat on your compassionate ministry in Fermanagh yesterday. You met my husband and I after the ceremony, Longford, and we congratulated you on the best wedding ceremony we ever attended. Love, joy, praise, prayer, compassion and the Holy Spirit. We wish we lived nearer to you. Anne and Brendan.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne. I hope you both had a lovely day.
DeleteSafe journey home to Longford today.
MMM COMMENT PROBLEMS
ReplyDeleteI cannot find a technical way to stop people using your MMM handle on comments.
But I think I know your style by now and I will not allow others to publish under your name.
If I get it wrong - please let me know.
Pat
If he registered it with google no one else could post under that name.
DeleteTell us how that is done, please?
DeleteMMM could use a “code” or “word” at the beginning or ending of each posting and you could then remove it before publishing the comment. That way you’d know his code word etc.
DeleteGood idea.
DeleteSend me an email MMM and I will send you a code.
I preferred the fake MMM.
DeleteIf he sends you an email, you will find out his real identity and he won’t be anonymous anymore. Not even Mourning Mick from the Mountains and Maggie Carter trust you with their real identities. Lol
DeleteMMM has regularly sent me emails.
DeleteI do not betray my sources.
I hope his emails are less turgid and depressing than his comments here.
DeleteHere's how to get a Google name:

Thank you Bishop Buckley for a wonderful Wedding Mass yesterday, we spoke briefly afterwards yesterday. Everyone is still talking about it and we were so glad to be part of it. We were impressed that you had a security guy looking after you on the day, hope to meet sometime soon again.
ReplyDeleteJason & Paul, Sligo.
For all those who attended the best wedding yesterday with Pat and are raving about it, let me tell you that I have officiated at many wonderful, joyful, happy "Marriages" in my Church with couples, families and friends expressing their gratitude for the celebration and how I made it special. We, priests, who officiate at a Marriage are very privileged, do our utmost to make it special and go out of our way to ensure the couple have the ceremony they desire. The gift of treating couples and their special day like this is not the preserve of Pat alone! Priests generally make it a memorable moment for couples. Credit to Pat but credit to all priests in their parishes who officiate at Sacramental Marriages....
Delete@14.13 I don’t see the relevance of your post darling. The point of the blog today was the beautiful Wedding Mass yesterday in Fermanagh. We are not talking about or discussing any other wedding dear.
Delete15.13; Missy Dear, what's your comment about? Rather vacuous....
Delete200 guests? That's a big wedding. The weather was beautiful yesterday too.
ReplyDeleteYou still have the security around you then Buckley I see.
ReplyDeleteNo New Cardinals for Ireland or Scotland this year the list is out so Vinnie Nichols is still the highest ranking.
DeleteMaybe next year.
I revealed here last week that rumours were swirling around Rome that new cardinals would be announced at the weekend. Another poster said I was a lier and I'd eat humble pie. Well who's eating it now?
DeleteEven Vatican News says it was a surprise announcement. Not a surprise when you're in the know.
DeleteEven if Scotland got a new Cardinal, Vincent would still be top dog.
Delete14.30 You’re in the know as much as my arse is.
DeleteHow come, 15:05, I revealed in the comms box here that the announcement of new Cardinals was imminent? Reuters is also describing it as a surprise. Put that in your thurible and smoke it!
Delete@16.22 I couldnt care less what you claim you knew or didn't know in the grand scheme of things. Pathetic trying to blow your own trumpet over a boring story. You hinted EM might get a red hat, well your so-called insider info didnt help you on that one did they.
DeleteI said nothing of the kind and in fact I said EM was unlikely because 1. WH is still alive; and 2. the days of Sees being cardinational as of right are over during this pontificate.
DeleteIf you are a Maynooth queen, 16:36 you'll want to know that my Roman source in the Secretariat of Statr says that the Congregation for Catholic Education will propose at the end of the summer break the withdrawal of Maynooth's Pontifical Charter, ending its status as a Pontifical University. Concerns are centred on low numbers, low academeic standards and vacant chairs, notably philosophy and Canon Law.
DeleteThe CDF is separately investigating the strange goings-on, including some not yet disclosed on this blog. Both dicastories are collaporating on Maynooth, which is described in Rome as a "headache".
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Wake me up someone when this bore has stopped going on about his imaginary friend in Rome. Pathetic really and you’ve got to feel for him. Doesn’t get out often I’d imagine.
DeleteI should have added that the CDF's investigations concern staff members. Catholic Education is investigating seminarians.
DeleteNothing boring about the appointment of new Cardinal-electors. They will help determine the next Conclave.
Delete17:55 and 19:14 Rubbish on all counts. Btw, learn to spell!
Delete@13.32 You were told several times that Eamon Martin would not be on that list. The way he has been handling issues in his diocese of late one is hardly surprised plus the Wounded Healer is still hanging around like a bad smell of slurry.
ReplyDeleteBishop Pat, we where at the beautiful wedding Mass yesterday and my partner and I have been talking about it all morning. You where magnificent and many laughed when you joined in the dancing, it was fun and so joyful. Are you able to celebrate a same sex wedding Mass in Italy?
ReplyDelete14:09 hilarious why Italy do you mind me asking ? Will the backdrop of your proposed pictures be of St Peters ? Farce.
DeleteTo the moron @15.12, there is far more to Italy than just Rome - it's only one city after all. However, in terms of gay weddings in Italy, Rome is not regarded as very sophisticated as a venue. The Italian lakes and the Almafi coast amongst others have fsr more charm, flair and romanticism.
DeleteLots of Irish people go to Italy to get married and the Irish College and St Isidore's (Irish Frannies) make a good living out of it. The Irish College has a section of its website all about it.
DeleteThe Irish College in Rome must be one of the most uninspiring places to get married, same sex or otherwise. Obviously for people with no imagination or taste.
Delete+Pat, Bishop of Nowhere, PO Box 666, camp Corner, Larne
ReplyDeleteIt’s more effective to write to Cardinal Sarah at the Vatican.
DeleteDon't forget to Cc the Nuncio.
DeleteIt looks lovely. They were very brave going for an outdoor ceremony in Ulster.
ReplyDeleteThe weather was 100%
DeleteIt was absolutely perfect in Edinburgh too... and Windsor.
DeleteThat must be the first concelebrated Mass in County Fermanagh without Brian Darcy on board.
ReplyDeleteNo, Brian only goes to the big shot weddings and funerals. He’d turn up to the opening of an envelope given half the chance.
DeleteHe's getting no sleep at the weekends with all the carry on of the young ones in Crossgar. He was in no fit state to take the Merc all the way to Fermanagh.
DeletePoor Brian (me me me) feels particularly isolated in Crossgar at the weekends when the young ones gather and get drunk outside. His other inmate in Crossgar, Gary Donegan (Priest in Jeans lol) is often away attending peace conferences in Europe. I hear the two of them are at each other’s throats vying to be more relevant and popular than the other. A well matched pair. Maybe you should mediate +Pat.
DeleteThey are as mismatched as Charles and Lady Di.
Delete+Pat's definitely not camp. I bet you wouldn't speak that way about a Protestant bishop whose orders aren't evan valid.
ReplyDeleteI find it strange that the Catholic church bows and scrapes towards invalidly ordained bishops and even lets lady bishops preach in Maynooth college chapel and at Novenas.
Yet validly ordained bishops such as Pat and the SSPX bishops have been ignored and calumniated. There seems to be no internal ecumenism in the Catholic church. The German bishops are pressing for Communion for Protestants, yet +Phonsie won't give it to +Pat.
Pat, if I sent you the details of the very sad case of a close relative, who was vulnerable and let down badly by two priests and a nun would you be able to look at it?
ReplyDeleteOf course I will.
DeleteThank you, I'll send an email.
DeleteI've done so now and even if it's not relevant to the blog, emailing you has been very therapeutic.
DeleteWhy was Prince Harry allowed to get married in St George's chapel yet it was denied to Prince Charles who had a registry office one followed by a blessing there. Henry VIII is buried in that chapel. The evening reception was held in Frogmore where the exiled Duke of Windsor is buried. Abdicated for marrying an American divorcee. The royals don't do irony.
ReplyDeleteThat's because it's our flexible friend, the Church of England. They make up the rules as they go along. Why only the other day I saw an Anglican priestess in a fiddleback chasuable. What a farce.
Delete15.57 I think the totals realise they have to change with the times. I was very impressed by Megan's mother, the African American preacher and the cellist. I thought Prince Charles treated Megan's mother with the greatest respect. ....I am not particularly a royalist. It cost £30m for the security alone. There were discrete snipers everywhere.
DeleteWas that because of the religion of peace?
Delete17.38 Most likely. What an easy target they would make. They reckon that MI5 are blocking hundreds of terrorist attacks a year. My friends grandma is Irish and said they should all be deported. So my friend said what about the IRA. That's different she said, we know they didn't really mean it. We are used to various attacks here.
DeleteBishop Pat Buckley, the attention to detail at yesterday’s Mass was unreal. We were amazed at the designer Holy Communion bread with the initials of the Groom and his hubby on each one. We couldn’t believe it when you showed the guests the large bread you were using with a Bishops hat on it and your coat of arms - absolutely brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThat had nothing to do with me.
DeleteOne of the lads has an aunt in an enclosed order who makes hosts.
A host is just a host- until after it is consecrated.
I hope that doesn't catch on. Very tacky.
Delete18.17: I agree. Very, very tacky. Then of course, Pat is a very tacky, stupid fool at times but this "signature" host is outrageous. A complete mockery of a very SACRED MEMORY OF Jesus, which Pat supposedly honours.
DeleteI think it is more tacky for Priests in Ireland who almost throw the Sacred Host at people during Communion. It’s disrespectful and haphazard, they almost can’t wait to get through Communion. When it comes to purifying the vessels it is done in a very sloppy and tacky way, another rush job to get through it and get the Mass finished. The Irish Clergy seem to have no concept of the new rules regarding the celebration of Mass that came in a good few years ago. Many insist on muttering prayers after Communion like ‘O Sacrament most Holy’ which is no longer encouraged because people should be given a time of silence instead to thank the Lord for being present to them in the Eucharist. There are more tacky things the Clergy are doing, bad habits and sloppy liturgy than to be worried about initials on the Sacred Host. I’m not going to even mention homilies.
Delete21.34: Very hard to please everyone but all too easy to make unfair sweeping judgments. I try to encourage the utmost respect for the Eucharist and allow for reflective moments for congregation. Nowadays because people are unable to be still and silently reflective, they chat and behave disrespectfully, particularly at funerals and weddings.
Delete@17.30 What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWeddings are so competitive and costly now and everyone wants theirs to be the best. But initials on Hosts? That's gross. We'll have the names down the front of chasubles next. I can't believe that an enclosed nun did that.
ReplyDelete18.05: Buckley, what a mockery of the SACRED Eucharist. A complete sacrilege. You excuse your ignorant behaviour by blaming everyone else, the innocent nuns in this case. The only consolation is that it wasn't a TRUE CATHOLIC MASS. How could you, in conscience, mock, ridicule and play fun with the true meaning of the SACRED EUCHARIST? And now you'd want us to believe that you are the Messiah returned! You made a complete mockery of the Eucharist and I'm surprised that any enclosed Order of Nuns who supply Communion Hosts would approve of such mockery. Very easy to find out which Order as there are so few, and I suggest that all parishes cease purchasing hosts from the Order. You are ignorant.
ReplyDelete@19.37 Your thoughts are irrelevant and Hypocritical. During big open air masses with the Pope, Communion is offered to everyone and nobody asks them what religion the are, their sexuality, their marital status. Is that not mockery of the Eucharist. In one foreign trip Muslims where given Holy Communion and no one batted an eyelid.
DeleteThere's a lot to be said for the crowns placed on the head of intended spouses (M&F) in Orthodoxy.
ReplyDeleteWhat are stefana (Stéfana)?
Stefana are used for The Crowning of the couple. The wedding crowns (Stéfana) are the signs of glory and honoUr with which God crowns the Bride and Groom during the sacrament. The Bride and Groom are crowned as king and queen of their home, which they will rule. They also get lighted candles which when extinguished are put in the hall, kitchen or bedroom of their home.
If the Religious Sister wanted to hand make Sacred Hosts for her relatives Wedding then that is her prerogative and nobody else’s business. It’s not up to us what we deem tasteful or not when it comes to the Wedding of another couple. Is it acceptable for children to turn up for First Holy Communion in stretch limos, horse and carriage and in a few cases, a helicopter. What is that saying about the importance of the Eucharist when it’s more about a social occasion. Where do we start dictating what’s appropriate and what isn’t when it comes to the Sacrament f the Eucharist. What have some Priests been doing with their hands before handling the Sacred Hosts in the past and present?
ReplyDeleteOh I have enjoyed this post. I've got lots of good ideas for my own forthcoming wedding. Is it usual for the groom to concelebrate on his wedding day and we must definitely get some of those hosts made.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed.
DeleteWhy, you could even have made 'His'-and -'Her' hosts!
Tasteless? Not at all.
Don't forget to invite Fr Darcy to concelebrate. Weddings pain him though, as they remind him of what might have been.
DeleteWho's the very lucky man, MC's mum? It's going to be the new wedding of the century. You could get the young ones from Crossgar to provide the musical entertainment at the reception.
DeleteDon't have a free bar though, as you-know-who would make a total Holy Show of himself.
Pat, did you hear the one about two aerials meeting on a roof, falling in love, and getting married? The ceremony was rubbish but the reception was brilliant.
ReplyDeleteAged aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, “You’re next!” They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.
DeletePat do you marry people in a Catholic church or is it in your house my fiance and I where going to come to you , but only if it's in a church and not your house we want to be married in the eyes of the law and the eyes of god
ReplyDelete
